The expansion will include new radial menus along with new units, upgrades, and abilities for the various factions in the game. It also includes a brand new game type called "Global Domination" that has been described as a variation on Risk. If the trailer is anything to go by, the expansion will also feature plenty of cut scenes with our favorite villain, Kane. Remember though, the expansion isn't out until next year, so you'd better find some other way to satisfy your cravings for bald villains in the meantime.
Video: Command & Conquer 3 Kane's Wrath trailer originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 06 Sep 2007 17:00:00 EST. While we haven't gathered the strength required to actually watch the episode, Joystiq has gone to the trouble of extracting the bits most important to us. Namely, an expansion for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of Command & Conquer 3 is on the way. Entitled Kane's Wrath, the expansion deals with the villain's ascent back to power after the second Tiberium War. The expansion is played through what's called "Global Domination," which plays out something like a game of Risk. The expansion also includes new units, upgrades, and powers for each faction in the game. Brand new to the Xbox 360 version are radial menus, which will presumably make building and upgrading with a controller a little easier. Don't get too excited though, the expansion isn't due until 2008.

[Via Joystiq]
C&C3 expansion includes new radial menus originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 14 Aug 2007 13:45:00 EST. Well, EA has officially unveiled this revolutionary idea, which they are calling C&C TV Battlecast Primetime. So, what the hell is it? From the looks of it in the video above, Battlecast Primetime is essentially SportsCenter for C&C fans. The program will be shown on the official C&C3 website starting August 14th at 12:01AM PST. The teaser video promises dev interviews, and action from C&C3 matches. We're not sure if we'd call it revolutionary, but it is a neat idea. It will be interesting to see what effect it has on the C&C3 community.

[Via Gamertag Radio]
EA unveils C&C TV Battlecast Primetime originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 07 Aug 2007 17:45:00 EST. It's contents can be summarized in the image above. Yes, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars will be revolutionized on August 7. What the hell does that mean? We have no earthly idea (and no unearthly idea for that matter). Gamertag Radio is stumped, too. All we do know is that whatever it is, you can uncover more info on August 7 at the official C&C3 website. We do, however, have some concrete details on the upcoming patch for C&C3. The patch is set to fix three major exploits in the game and should be available "soon." Alright, so maybe it's not concrete per se, but it's better than nothing, right?
C&C 3 to be "revolutionized" soon originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 26 Jul 2007 17:15:00 EST. Lucky for you, EA has released a free video on Xbox Live Marketplace detailing all of the new maps. The video is narrated by one of C&C3's developers, who gives you the scoop on each map, noting where the tiberium is and where most of the action will take place. Each map gets a fairly thorough overview, so the video should serve as a decent way to gauge whether or not the maps are worth 500 MS points.

Have you downloaded the maps yet? Maybe some cheesy into-the-camera monologues will change your mind. The NOD characters trailer is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace, featuring everyone's favorite fanatical warlord, Kane. You'll also get a brief look at the other main characters in the NOD campaign, including other aggressively named characters like Kilian Qatar. On the other hand, if evil doesn't do it for you, maybe you'd rather check out the GDI (read: "the good guys") campaign intro. You can find it after the break.
Continue reading C&C3 raises Kane on Marketplace

C&C3 raises Kane on Marketplace originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 08 May 2007 10:30:00 EST. This spring, however, seems to be just a little bit different. Last week we received Spider-Man 3*, and we've been getting new Xbox Live Arcade titles in spades (Catan FTW!). This week, we look inside the Xbox 360 horn of plenty and find tiberium encrusted copies of Command & Conquer 3. By the way, if you care to look, you'll also see a slimy copy of Shrek the 3rd tucked away in there as well. Unfortunately, that's all we've got this week, but Command & Conquer 3 is nothing to sneeze at. In fact, we've already enjoyed the demo quite a bit.

So, who's planning on rolling some Mammoth tanks over their unsuspecting foes this week?

[Via Joystiq]

*We utterly neglected to mention the release of Spider-Man 3 last week. We dissected the demo ourselves not long ago, but IGN gives out fresh details concerning the campaign mode. In particular, IGN notes that the computer AI becomes very difficult in later levels. Part of the reason for this is that computers don't have to contend with C&C3's complex control scheme. In other words, AI can manage, build, and direct units much more efficiently than a human. Adding insult to injury, the game lacks a simple restart option for campaign missions. So, if you find yourself without hope of victory, the only way to restart is to exit the game entirely and reload your most recent save. As IGN notes, it's not a deal breaker, but it can become tedious after multiple losses.

Thankfully, multiplayer removes many of these issues, as human opponents must overcome the same control scheme. In the end, IGN walked away impressed with Command & Conquer 3. So far, they've enjoyed the campaign -- difficult though it may be -- and the numerous online options (including more game types than the PC version). Hit the "read" link for IGN's full impressions.

Command & Conquer 3 finally arrives next week. Will it live up to its promise? We'll have to wait and see.
IGN Hands on with Command & Conquer 3 originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 03 May 2007 18:00:00 EST. There is a new documentary describing the casting and filming process for Command & Conquer 3 available on Xbox Live Marketplace (also handily embedded at the top of this post). Of course, it also has geekily satisfying doses of Michael "Sam Fisher" Ironside and Billy Dee "Lando Calrissian" Williams. Check out the documentary and tell us what you think.

Do you like C&C's use of real actors, or do you prefer digital actors?
Command & Conquer 3: the documentary? originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 02 May 2007 18:00:00 EST. Saints be praised, we finally managed to grab the demo this morning. We spent a few hours playing the game and coming to grips with the controls. The demo was unofficially announced via a forum post by an Electronic Arts employee. Either the employee was misinformed or the demo is still clearing certification hurdles at Microsoft. Of course, there are still many hours left in the day for the demo to drop, but as most demos hit in the morning, we're less than optimistic.

Rest assured, we'll let you know when it's live.
Fanboys am cry: no C&C3 demo in sight originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 19 Apr 2007 12:45:00 EST. Finally, RTS fans will have a chance to test out the revised console control scheme originally developed for Battle for Middle Earth II. Only this time, instead of pitting orcs against elves, it will be NOD versus GDI. There are also gamer pics, 2 new trailers, and themes available for download right now. Get 'em while they're hot. Hell, just saying the word achievement feels pretty good. Try it: "achieeeeevement." Feels good, doesn't it? Because we all love achievements so much, we bring you the full achievement list for Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, which arrives next month. The list comes to us courtesy of Achieve360Points and it's quite a list. It's refreshing to see that the bulk of the achievements are located in the single player campaign, as many games reserve the big points for multiplayer. Hopefully, this means everyone will be well versed in the game when they finally jump over to multiplayer. Of course, there are a handful of multiplayer achievements as well, including plenty of shame achievements worth 0 points. For example, lose a game to someone ranked 20 places below you and you'll net the "Losing Face" achievement. Hit the "read" link to see all 22 achievements.

A demo of C&C3 should hit marketplace within the next few weeks.
Command respect, conquer C&C3 achievements originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 13 Apr 2007 14:30:00 EST. Even better, Electronic Arts will release a demo of the game on Marketplace in the coming weeks. In celebration, EA has released a handful of new screen shots as well as the official box art for the game.

Command & Conquer 3 represents EA's second attempt to bring an authentic RTS experience to a home console. Naturally, this is a somewhat difficult process without the aid of a mouse and keyboard. EA's first attempt, Battle for Middle Earth II was decent, though not perfect. Here's hoping that Command & Conquer 3 finally delivers the ultimate RTS experience to console players. Why? Because we inevitably get to type out the name of Germany's ratings board: Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK). Say that three times fast. According to CVG, EA will be altering Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars so that it is suitable for Germany's impressionable youth. It seems the game's suicide bombers will no longer actually commit suicide. Instead, these more risk averse almost-suicide bombers will remove their deadly explosive payload and run away. EA notes that this is only an animation change and that it will not affect the game balance in any way.

This isn't the first game to fall under the USK's ratings hammer. Other 360 titles, including Dead Rising and Gears of War, have been banned from the country outright. Of course, smart gamers know that they can pick up an Austrian copy. At any rate, Command & Conquer 3 for the PC debuts this month, with the 360 version following soon after.
C&C3 altered for German consumption originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 14 Mar 2007 14:45:00 EST. It was previously believed that players would only be able to see each other before and after a match, but this video shows video chat windows during the match as well. All in all, the video reveals two things. One, Vision cam support is perfect for a game like Command & Conquer. Two, this may be the most annoying feature ever conceived. The video goes out of its way to show us how annoying this feature could be, and we're not exactly sure that's good marketing strategy, but the feature is at least promising.

Also, the video features actual 360 footage, giving us a look at the 360 control interface. It looks essentially like Battle for Middle Earth II, which we were expecting. It does, however, look much faster than BFMEII, which is definitely welcome.

For now, C&C3 for the 360 is saddled with a nebulous spring 2007 release date. Anyone plan on picking it up? The new trailer mixes gameplay footage with video cutscenes. Command & Conquer fans know that the series typically favors full motion video over CG cutscenes, and this video lives up to that tradition. The video brings in some serious talent, too. In particular we must point out the inclusion of Billy Dee "Lando Calrissian" Williams and Michael "Sam Fisher" Ironside. Entitled Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars: Kane Edition, the game will include "an enormous amount of exclusive content." At first, we wondered why EA would exclude the 360 from its special edition love fest. Then we looked at the list of included content. Let's see: strategy videos, 5 multiplayer maps, different skins for your units, exclusive wallpapers, and behind the scenes videos. Sound familiar? Our best guess would be that EA plans to make these items available through Xbox Live Marketplace. Granted, it's just speculation for now, but it seems highly plausible, especially given EA's love affair with microtransactions. Potentially, it could actually be cheaper than picking up a special edition. Pay for the stuff you want (maps) and leave the rest alone (videos, themes, etc.). We saw tons of great games -- Oblivion, Gears of War, and Dead Rising just to name a few -- Xbox Live Arcade showed signs of maturity, Xbox Live grew by leaps and bounds, and overall 360 sales are closing in on the 10 million mark. Yes, it was a good time to be a gamer if you had a 360. What about the future? What does 2007 hold for the Xbox 360? The video features lots and lots of mass destruction, as huge contingents of soldiers and machines wage war. Unfortunately, the video is devoid of any sort of interface, so we can't tell what -- if any -- refinements have been made to the control scheme created for BFMEII. Overall, the game is looking very slick and polished. The trailer itself is well produced, too. We particularly like the tag line at the end of the video: "Coming to a home theater near you." Nice. See the trailer after the break.
Continue reading C&C3 debut video conquers Marketplace

C&C3 debut video conquers Marketplace originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 22 Dec 2006 12:30:00 EST. The video showcases the game's two factions, the GDI (Global Defense Initiative, i.e. the good guys) and NOD (the Brotherhood of Nod, i.e. the bad guys). The GDI focuses on powerful, but slow moving units. The video features massive two-turreted tanks, missile launching foot soldiers, and some powerful mechs. The Brotherhood focuses on attacking and escaping quickly. The video features many vehicles capable of teleporting in and out of battle for quick strikes, including jets, jeeps, and laser/flamethrower wielding mechs. Watch the video after the break.
Continue reading C&C3 gameplay: GDI Vs. In short, the game looks insane (in a good way). Without any sort of HUD or visible interface, it's hard to imagine actually being in control of the madness on screen. The game looks great, especially for an RTS, and looks to be running at a buttery smooth frame rate, too. Watch the video after the break and tell us what you think.
Continue reading New footage of C&C 3: Tiberium Wars

New footage of C&C 3: Tiberium Wars originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 07 Dec 2006 16:00:00 EST. Building (and hopefully improving) upon the control scheme developed for Battle for Middle Earth II, C&C3 promises a great campaign as well as a huge multiplayer component all in a futuristic setting. Two screens, including the image above, have been released and they look awfully nice -- see hi-res versions on Xboxyde. No doubt, RTS enthusiasts will prefer to play on their PC, but it's nice for 360 fanboys to have a more couch-friendly option.
