Due to popular demand, <a href="http://www.callofduty.com/intel/182">Treyarch</a> is now opening up <em>Call of Duty: World at War's </em>Nazi zombie co-op playlist to everyone on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, nullifying the previous requirement of completing the single-player campaign. For the uninitiated, Nazi zombie co-op has you and up to four others fighting off endless waves of -- you guessed it -- nazi zombies. And before you ask, no, we never tire of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wolfenstein">nazis</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead">or</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5">zombie</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gears-of-war-2">massacres</a>.<br /><br />Treyarch is also giving out double the experience points this weekend. It started this afternoon at 1:00 PM ET and will stay in effect until an undisclosed time -- probably Monday morning, if we had to guess. If you're in desperate need for some double XP, we suggest you take off work / school now and head to your console of choice.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2009/01/16/world-at-war-zombie-weekend-is-go-go-go/">X3F</a>; thanks, mdouet!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/16/cod-world-at-war-unlocks-nazi-zombies-for-all-gives-double-xp/">CoD: World at War unlocks Nazi zombies for all, gives double XP this weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Jan 2009 15:47:00 EST. Attention soldiers: Looking to enlist in the good beta fight of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/CallofDutyWorldatWar/">Call of Duty: World at War</a></em>? According to a slew of tipsters, FilePlanet is offering a limited supply of beta codes to some lucky members beginning today. In order to qualify, players must sign-up for a <a href="http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/codwaw/email1.htm">FilePlanet</a> account or use an existing account -- a free account works, too -- and wait for notification if they've been selected for the Xbox 360 test.<br /> <br /> Recently, Treyarch increased the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/world-at-war-beta-update-raises-level-cap-adds-playlists/">level cap to 24</a> adding new perks and challenges to the online fray, the developer aims to give its upcoming Pacific-theater, World War II shooter an extra push before it releases to retail this November. Players looking for beta access are urged to register for the contest as soon as possible because codes are going fast. Looking for more on <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em>? The <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em> beta has been updated. On the <a href="http://www.callofduty.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=26&amp;t=29975 ">official forums</a>, Treyarch developer "JD_2020" has introduced "some Hardcore playlists," including a Search and Destroy playlist. More importantly, the level cap has been raised to 24, giving players access to new weapons, challenges and perks. Additionally, some (but not all) of the bug fixes should be in this patch, with more expected as the beta goes on.<br /><br />Kudos to Treyarch for granting new features to the beta while it goes on. Despite a few <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/joyswag-enlist-in-the-call-of-duty-world-at-war-beta/ ">noted caveats</a>, we're still enjoying the multiplayer. Speaking of which, we've got 5 beta codes left to give out this afternoon, so <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/joyswag-enlist-in-the-call-of-duty-world-at-war-beta/">enter here</a> if you still need one.<br /><br />[Thanks, phillyo2]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/call-of-duty-world-at-war-beta-updated-today/">Call of Duty: World at War beta updated today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Oct 2008 14:00:00 EST. 360Sync has <a href="http://www.360sync.com/2008/10/08/call-of-duty-world-at-war-achievements">revealed</a> the entire list of achievements for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a>, the next installment in the long standing war series. The achievements are pretty standard, offering points for completing various levels and tasks within those levels during the campaign. Some are reserved for solo play only, while others can be achieved in co-op as well. Our favorite is probably 'No Safe Place' which awards 15 gamerscore for burning an enemy out of a tree with a flamethrower.<br /><br />Also worth noting is that there aren't any achievements for online versus multiplayer. It appears that restricting achievements to the main campaign has become the mantra for <em>Call of Duty</em> games, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-4"><em>Call of Duty 4</em></a> had no online achievements either. Head over to 360Sync to check out the full list.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/cod-world-at-war-achievements-revealed/">COD: World at War achievements revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 16:15:00 EST. <br /><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veterans_Day">Veterans Day</a> this year will be marked by silences, parades, and a bunch of people buying the latest <em>Call of Duty</em> game. Previous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/call-of-duty-world-at-war-ships-off-this-november/">speculation</a> that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> would launch in November has now been confirmed -- <em>World at War</em> will appear on November 11th, hopefully giving Wii owners an accomplished shooter to play before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/point-counterpoint-pros-and-conduits/">The Conduit</a> arrives on the scene.<br /><br />For some time, Activision has promised us that the (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-call-of-duty-world-at-war-to-utilize-zapper/">Zapper-compatible</a>) Wii title will be "comparable" to versions on other consoles, based as it is on the <em>Call of Duty 4</em> engine. We'll see how robustly such claims hold up a couple of months from now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/answer-your-call-of-duty-this-november/">Answer your Call of Duty this November</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Sep 2008 22:00:00 EST. What's our first impressions of the video? Well, it doesn't look too bad. Really, it doesn't look all that bad. The initial jungle crash landing sequence is intense, the visuals (from what we can tell) look satisfying enough and even the "bunker clearing" seems enjoyable. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/call-of-duty-5-world-at-war-starts-to-surface/"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> has hit the intertrons! The official <em>COD</em> domain has always been a general-purpose website, but the latest information for the upcoming shooter has been granted its own dedicated section with a whole range of groin-grabbing goodies.<br /><br />The whole point of the site is the get involved with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/joystiq-talks-to-treyarchs-mark-lamia-on-cod-5/">everything <em>Call of Duty</em></a>. You'll sign up and create your profile, and from there you can complete a variety of "missions" to earn points and level up. This include posting in the forums and taking part in polls, but you'll unlock more missions the further you progress within the site.<br /><br />Why does this sound like a video game? It's a website -- but a pretty good one at that. The Intel and Reconnaissance (that is, news and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/call-of-duty-world-at-war-trailer-really-speaks-to-co-op-gamers/">media</a>) sections should be updated regularly, and a developer blog is up and running. <a href="http://www.callofduty.com/CoDWW">Off you go</a>, then!<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/fall-in-to-the-world-at-war-website/">Fall in to the World at War website</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Jun 2008 18:00:00 EST. While many of you are wondering how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/call-of-duty-world-at-war-trailer-really-speaks-to-co-op-gamers/"><em>Call of Duty 5</em></a> ... uh, <em>won't suck</em> on the Wii, check out Joystiq's interview with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/treyarch">Treyarch</a>'s Mark Lamia. He talks about the Wii version, how it will include online play and also has its own team dedicated to the Wii version of the game. It's a pretty interesting interview that covers some of the concerns Wii gamers have for the title, so head on over and check it out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/joystiq-talks-to-treyarchs-mark-lamia-on-cod-5/">Joystiq talks to Treyarch's Mark Lamia on CoD 5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Jun 2008 13:15:00 EST. Four player online co-op. Yes sir, <em>World at War</em> will sport four player online co-op as well as two player local split screen as part of the game's main campaign storyline and features the added benefit of allowing you to rack up the experience points for use in multiplayer. Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia confirmed with Joystiq, correcting an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/call-of-duty-5-in-new-military-theater-returns-series-to-ps2/">earlier report</a> that the game would mark a return of the series on PS2; the first since Treyarch's <em>Call of Duty 3</em>. Despite claims that <em>World</em><em> at War</em> is "not a different game on Wii" (with, um, a few exceptions) -- and therefore, wouldn't be <em>all that </em>different of a game on PS2 -- Activision and Treyarch have apparently retired PS2 from duty ... for good.<br /><br />Check out our full interview with Treyarch <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/joystiq-interviews-mark-lamia-of-treyarch-and-call-of-duty-the-f/">right here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/call-of-duty-world-at-war-is-next-gen-only-baby/">Call of Duty: World at War is 'next-gen only baby!'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 18:15:00 EST. Wondering what happened to the number "5" trailing <em>Call of Duty</em> and preceding <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Call-of-Duty-World-at-War/">World at War</a></em>? Senior producer Noah Heller offered some <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/xbox360/cod_world_at_war/news-8600.html">insight</a> into its absence, saying, "We're getting rid of the number in <em>Call of Duty</em> for a very specific reason: It's because we want you to know that when you're playing <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em> you're playing the best shooter, the best WW2 game ever. Likewise when you're playing <em>Modern Warfare</em>, likewise when you play any game that will be called <em>Call of Duty</em>." <br /><br />Now, a handful of us have tried to parse that quote and, no matter which angle we take, it proves elusive. Is he saying that <em>Modern Warfare</em> didn't have a number in the title (because <a href="http://images.google.com/images?q=call of duty 4 box">the game's box</a> clearly says otherwise)? Is he saying that future <em>Call of Duty</em> installments, including whatever Infinity Ward is presumably working on, will also be <em>sans number</em>? Or perhaps, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/rumor-infinity-ward-to-be-sole-call-of-duty-dev/">rumored</a>, Infinity Ward has renegotiated their relationship with the flagship title and any numbered sequels (all future sequels?) will be saved for them to develop? <br /><br />We've sent our own inquiry into Activision for some clarification. We'll let you know what it throws back.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/call-of-duty-world-at-war-producer-on-why-its-not-cod-5/">Call of Duty: World at War producer on why it's not 'CoD 5'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 16:15:00 EST. <em>Call of Duty: World at War </em>began life right after <em>Call of Duty 3</em>, before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cod4"><em>Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare</em></a> was released. So, following this logic, "there was no modern warfare" when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war/"><em>World at War</em></a> was conceived, Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia told Joystiq, responding to skeptics who fear that the series' return to World War II will be a return to mediocrity. In fact, <em>Call of Duty's</em> <strike>"B Team"</strike> alternate developer doesn't consider its next entry a rehash at all. "We don't really look at it like we're going back to World War II," said Lamia. "For [Treyarch], it's totally new."<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">COD: WAW CODE 7: </span><span><font face="Arial" size="2">JWGTP-9FCDW-WVRXM-7XX3M-W76PM</font></span><br /> <br />Lamia pointed to <em>World at War's</em> two-year development cycle as a key factor; a full 12 months more than the team had to complete <em>Call of Duty 3</em>, which, while by no means a commercial or critical failure, stands as a definitive low point for the franchise. "When you got one year, you do what you know, and get it done well -- don't mess around. When you got two years, you have a chance to introduce new gameplay, new elements."<br /><br />Check out our full interview with Treyarch <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/joystiq-interviews-mark-lamia-of-treyarch-and-call-of-duty-the-f/">right here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/treyarch-call-of-duty-isnt-going-back-to-wwii/">Treyarch: Call of Duty isn't going 'back' to WWII</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 15:45:00 EST. By now, you already know that <em>Call of Duty</em> is indeed coming back, though not in the <em>Modern Warfare</em> variety you've come to know and love. You know, that edition which sold over ten million copies and was developed by another studio. No, Activision has handed the reins back to Treyarch to create <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em>, which returns the franchise to the WWII genre, albeit in a new theater: The Pacific. Find everything we know about <em>Call of Duty 5</em>, err, <span style="font-style: italic;">Call of Duty: World at War</span>, after the break.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/call-of-duty-world-at-war/">Call of Duty: World at War</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/call-of-duty-world-at-war/#1346927"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/cod_waw_dlc1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Nightfire (DLC)" title="Nightfire (DLC)" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/call-of-duty-world-at-war/#875224"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/cod-waw-berlin---street-fight_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/call-of-duty-world-at-war/#875230"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/cod-waw-makin-enemy-soldier_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/call-of-duty-world-at-war/#875227"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/cod-waw-makin-raid---executioner_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/call-of-duty-world-at-war/#875229"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/cod-waw-makin-raid---pow_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/joystiq-impressions-call-of-duty-world-at-war/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq impressions -- Call of Duty: World at War</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/joystiq-impressions-call-of-duty-world-at-war/">Joystiq impressions -- Call of Duty: World at War</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 14:45:00 EST. Treyarch has ambitious plans for <span style="font-style: italic;">Call of Duty</span>: W<span style="font-style: italic;">orld at War</span>, namely in making sure that the Wii version is "not a different game," according to what Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia told Joystiq. "We have dedicated engineers, artists, and designers associated to the Wii platform. So we have a ton of resources, stable platform to start with while we're making that thing -- but it will be the exact experience except for the changes we need to make for the controls and everything else."<span style="font-style: italic;"><br /><br />Everything else</span>, eh? Aside from Waggletech(R) and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zapper">Overpriced Plastic Shell(R)</a> integration (yes, Zapper support confirmed), expect the Wii version of <span style="font-style: italic;">World at War</span> to feature some significant scaling back in the graphics department, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/call-of-duty-world-at-war-co-op-multiplayer-detailed/">co-op</a> and online multiplayer modes. Even though it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/call-of-duty-5-world-at-war-starts-to-surface/">revealed</a> earlier, a recent press release has <em>confirmed</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/an-incomplete-list-of-the-greatest-co-op-games-of-all-time/">co-op gameplay</a> in the upcoming <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em>. While the other versions boast four-player online killfests, the Wii will have its own <strike>gimped</strike> "unique co-op mode for two players."<br /><br />It's not all downgrades for the Wii's <em>World at War</em>. Senior producer Noah Heller is confident in its capabilities, <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/23-06-2008-8602.html">claiming</a> "It's going to look better than any Wii game I've ever seen on the market." Also, despite the online and co-op changes, developer Treyarch says "For all intents and purposes it's the same game." Top stuff, because <em>Call of Duty 3</em> <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/callofduty3?q=call%20of%20duty">wasn't entirely</a> up to scratch.<br /><br />Hit that big play button up there to check out the debut trailer for <em>World at War</em>. Officially it's footage from the 360 and PS3 version, but since it's "the same game," the Wii shouldn't miss out on too many of the heart-beating battles in the above video.<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/call-of-duty-world-at-war-trailer-really-speaks-to-co-op-gamers/">Call of Duty: World at War trailer really speaks to co-op gamers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 10:15:00 EST. To be honest, we almost feel a bit dirty posting this rumor. The game that for all intents and purposes, <em>is COD5</em>, is currently still <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/21/here-it-is-call-of-duty-world-at-war-debut-trailer/">being teased</a>, and there's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/21/rumor-infinity-ward-giving-call-of-duty-6-a-sci-fi-setting/">already rumors</a> about the <em>next </em>game? Indeed there is, thus the faintly dirty feeling. Apparently an Infinity Ward team member <a href="http://talkplaystation.com/cod4-developers-making-a-sci-fi-title/">spoke to</a> someone from TalkPlaystation.com and told them that the company is at work on a new sci-fi title that may or may not see reveal at E3.<br /><br />With <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em> returning to the familiar territory of WWII, and the series' current hit staking the claim of <em>Modern Warfare</em> it would seem to make sense that Infinity Ward would want to jump things into the future. If this ends up being accurate (heck, they could be working on a non-<em>COD</em> sci-fi game too) let's hope Infinity Ward can do better than some other popular franchises that have used a futuristic setting. We can't help but get flashbacks of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlefield_2142">ill-fated <em>Battlefield: 2142</em></a> ...<br /><br />[Via<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/21/rumor-infinity-ward-giving-call-of-duty-6-a-sci-fi-setting/"> Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/21/rumor-cod6-goes-sci-fi/">Rumor: COD6 goes sci-fi?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 21 Jun 2008 14:00:00 EST. Rarely, however, is it done with any sort of sincerity. After yesterday's <em>massive</em> leak of Intellisponse Survey info, we think it's safe to use the phrase with complete and utter confidence: OMG MEGATON!!!!111LOLZ1! Seriously, there is so much information being disseminated that people are actually starting to mock up fake survey pages in an attempt to grab the spotlight. Here we have gathered up all the rumors -- they are just that, by the way: rumors -- that we've posted so far as well as some that Joystiq posted while we foolishly slept.<br /><br />Of particular interest, note the video above, which reportedly comes from an as yet unreleased Silicon Knights game entitled <em>Crucible: The Evil Within</em>. Looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/too-human"><em>Too Human</em></a> set in a more traditional fantasy realm, which is an idea we fully support.<br />

Just like the fourth installments <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/21/call-of-duty-4s-box-art-to-be-decided-by-you/">various box arts</a>, it seems that the fifth installment will have many different box arts before any single one is chosen to represent the game. <br /><br />Also, as you may have noticed, none of the box arts have the number "5" on them anywhere. Instead, the game seems to have solely adopted the recently announced subtitle of <em>World at War</em>.<br /></div>

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Call+of+Duty/"><em>Call of Duty</em></a> is one of the biggest names in gaming today, and the hard-fightin' adventures of World War II soldiers just keep coming, ready for twitchy trigger-fingers to blast some baddies. The Wii had a taste of the action with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/23/revolutionary-answering-the-call/">Call of Duty 3</a></em>, even though it couldn't match the super-fine graphics featured on the other consoles.<br /><br />In development at Treyarch, <em>Call of Duty 5: World at War</em> is coming to all three consoles -- but this time, the Wii gets a bit more TLC. It's being developed by a separate team, although the graphics will be much more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/09/wii-cod3-compared-and-contrasted/">comparable</a> between the different versions -- apparently running the <em>COD4</em> engine on the Wii. That's no slouch, folks, as the <em>COD4</em> engine was stunning.<br /><br />We can expect vehicle and squad-based additions to the multiplayer, along with <strike>ZOMG!</strike> a full <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/an-incomplete-list-of-the-greatest-co-op-games-of-all-time/">co-op</a> mode. That's pretty hardcore, because this isn't your church-picnic <em>Call of Duty</em>. Apparently, the setting will be far "grittier" than anything we've seen in the series thus far, which means plenty of grizzled soldiers standing around looking badass with cigarettes, simultaneously getting their violent on. This all goes down in the Pacific theatre of WWII, where hectic battles were commonplace.<br /><br />We want great games to be commonplace on the Wii, and <span style="font-style: italic;">COD5</span> is shaping up nicely. Stay tuned for more details as they arrive!<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/call-of-duty-5-world-at-war-starts-to-surface/">Call of Duty 5: World at War starts to surface</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Jun 2008 11:46:00 EST. It appears that the rumors <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/new-setting-for-call-of-duty-5-bond-powered-by-call-of-duty-4/">were half-true</a>. Late Friday evening <a href="http://www.oxm.co.uk/article.php?id=4657">OXM UK</a> posted the first details for the next installment of the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty">Call of Duty</a></em> franchise and <a href="http://maximumfear.net/2008/06/09/call-of-duty-world-at-war/">new scans</a> confirm the magazine's exclusive cover story. <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em> will bring the series back to World War II and include new weapons in the series' first foray into single player co-op territory; two-player split-screen and four player online is planned. In development at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Treyarch/">Treyarch</a> (<em>Call of Duty 3</em>) the <em>Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare</em> engine based title will focus on a Pacific campaign as US forces battle Japanese adversaries while the Soviet Army invades Germany.<br /><br />Having been in development for two years--with the lead platform being the Xbox 360-- <em>Call of Duty: World at War </em>features enhanced environments that bend, break and burn during the historic battle (an example of the new flamethrower weapon burning flesh as well as the world was given in the 4-page story). Multiplayer fans have something to look forward to as the series makes it's return to World War II. Treyarch, having taken cues from Infinity Ward (<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cod4">Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare</a></em>) will include a perks accomplishment system which was made famous by the current Xbox Live leader. Strap into the De Lorean gamers, looks like we're hitting 88MpH back to World War II.<br /><br />[Thanks <a href="http://maximumfear.net/2008/06/09/call-of-duty-world-at-war/">Nathan G</a> and Private Ryan]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/call-of-duty-world-at-war-announced/">Call of Duty: World at War announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Jun 2008 09:00:00 EST. However, a bit of text in the listing may reveal the direction which Treyarch is taking <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/CallofDuty5/">Call of Duty 5</a></em> -- and from the looks of things, that direction is backwards.<br /><br />The listing says that applicants would be well-served by being "a fan of World War II shooters," causing <a href="http://www.gamer.tm/news.php?id=1848">some to believe</a> that the game will take place during the WWII era. We've seen less logical rumors come through the mill, but we still can't help but scoff at this gossip. Who would want to play a game based on WWII? What's a war game without AC-130 gunships and guided anti-tank missiles? We'll tell you - <em>it's boring</em>. Activision's biggest pre-merger franchises are all (<strong>GASP!</strong>) getting sequel treatment. In a fact sheet concerning the Activision Blizzard deal (<a href="http://www.vivendi.com/corp/en/Activision_Blizzard/fichiers/20071203_EN_factSheet.pdf">PDF file</a>), the publisher lists <em>Guitar Hero 4, Call of Duty 5,</em> a new <em>Tony Hawk</em> title (which would be its 11th iteration), a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/activision-doubles-up-007-projects/"><em>James Bond</em></a> game and a racing title with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/15/reminder-bizarre-not-working-on-pgr5-working-on-new-racing-se/">recently-acquired Bizarre Creations</a>, as well as licensed titles with Dreamworks and Marvel.<br /><br />None of these sequels come as a surprise, as they are all critical and commercial successes, but this is the first official confirmation of their existence. According to Activision Blizzard's earlier conference call, 50% of Activision's revenues are derived from franchises it owns outright, including <em>Guitar Hero</em> and <em>Call of Duty</em>. It should be noted that as well that all three franchises also have competition from rival Electronic Arts in the form of <em>Rock Band</em>, <em>Medal of Honor</em> and <em>Skate</em>. No word on project release dates for any of the sequels.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.vivendi.com/corp/en/Activision_Blizzard/fichiers/20071203_EN_factSheet.pdf">Read</a> - Fact sheet [Warning: PDF file]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/03/guitar-hero-4-call-of-duty-5-and-tony-hawk-11-confirmed/">Big surprise: Guitar Hero 4, Call of Duty 5, and Tony Hawk 11 confirmed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Dec 2007 13:55:00 EST. Activision games that include <em>Call of Duty 5</em>, <em>Guitar Hero IV</em>, new <em>James Bond</em>, new <em>Tony Hawk</em>, new Dreamworks titles, new <em>Marvel</em> titles and a Bizarre racing game. All these sequels are mentioned in a <a href="http://www.activisionblizzard.com/factSheet/index.php">fact sheet</a> posted over on Activision Blizzard's newly live website under Activision's "pipeline includes" section. No dates, no time frames or other specifics are mentioned in the fact sheet other than the confirmation that the games exist and are being worked on. Again, nothing earth-shattering here, but it's still exciting game announcement stuff.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=31168">GamesIndustry.biz</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/03/cod5-ghiv-and-bizarre-racing-game-confirmed/">CoD5, GHIV and Bizarre racing game confirmed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Dec 2007 10:45:00 EST.
