See Dark Void's jetpack action in video

We know we've been banging the drum for Dark Void pretty hard, but we're hoping that after today you're going to understand why. The segment of the game in the above video is the exact one that sold us on it, from the flailing animations the hero Will makes in flight to the radical UFO hijacking. (Notable difference in our experience: We had a much-cooler walk-through guide, designer Jose Perez, who didn't pretend to still be freaked out by controlling the jetpack after he'd played/watched the demo 100,000 times. Really dude? Really?)

Even if you've gotten tired of hearing how great Dark Void looks, we urge you, take a look at this video and see if it doesn't get your thumbs flicking in anticipation. If you want more, we've put some gun-play video after the break.

Microsoft's Frank O'Connor hints at 'HaloCon', comments on 'Bungiegate'

Following the "Halo Universe" panel at the San Diego Comic Con 08, Eurogamer had a chance to speak with former Bungie content manager Frank O'Connor, who now works with Microsoft to manage the Halo franchise. During the interview, O'Connor stated that a "HaloCon" (that's Halo Convention, for the contextually impaired) is a definite possibility, adding, "Bungie has done fanfests at E3 and it would be lovely to see something bigger, something more ambitious in the future." In addition, we figure a Halo-based expo would also prove an appropriate time to follow through on certain... engagements.

Eurogamer did not let Bungie's seized E3 announcement go unmentioned, and O'Connor responded with an uncrushed spirit, explaining that "someone, somewhere decided strategically that another time is better, and it will be, and there's going to be an announcement and it's going to be awesome." This could mean that they actually know when they'll be following through on their promised E3 megaton, and (if you can wrap your mind around this) -- that they've yet to announce when they're going to announce what they're going to announce.

Point your single oversized eyeball at this Resident Evil: Degeneration trailer

Comic Con 08 attendees were recently treated to a new, two-minute trailer for the upcoming CGI motion picture Resident Evil: Degeneration. The series' previous, lackluster live action installments enveloped our hard hearts in a thick shell of apprehension towards the new movie when it was first announced -- but after seeing it in action, consider said shell shucked. Not only does it look gorgeous, but it appears Leon and Claire will be voiced by Paul Mercier and Alyson Court, the two characters' voice actors from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Veronica, respectively.

It's also full of valuable Pro-Tips for those playing along at home! Shoot them in the head, eh? Thanks, Leon!

Rumor: New Marvel vs. Capcom game may be coming 'sooner than you think'

Though we imagine there are those who will find this rumor too inconclusive and uninformative, anyone who has ever experienced the visceral thrill of watching Mega Man beat the mutant gene out of X-Men's resident pansy, Scott Summers, should appreciate even the slightest glimmer of hope for an encore Cyclops massacre. When asked at San Diego Comic Con 08 if a new Marvel vs. Capcom game was a distinct possibility, Marvel Studios' President of Production, Kevin Feige, slyly answered, "Yes. And maybe sooner than you think."

With two days of cosplaying goodness remaining at Comic Con, could Feige have been hinting at a big reveal still to come during the event? Perhaps, though considering Marvel's main panel took place on Thursday, it's somewhat unlikely. If a new Marvel vs. Capcom title is approaching as swiftly as Feige suggests, though, we're sure to hear something more concrete from one of the two companies involved sometime soon.

Costumes of Comic-Con 08: Days 1 and 2

We're only halfway through the pandemonium that is Comic-Con this year, and the International Masquerade is still to come -- but in the meantime we wanted to bring you just a taste of the eye candy available on the show floor and in the clogged halls of the SDCC. Us? We're wearing our patented bedraggled blogger hobo look. These are the people who made an effort.

DC Universe Online walkthrough straight from Comic Con

DC Universe Online probably won't be out until this time next year, but it's already playable today at Comic Con. Can't make it? Mr. Rubenstein of the PlayStation Blog has your back. The video above shows the game's Creative Director, Jens Anderson, giving us a tour of the game in its current state. The character visuals may look a little rough, but the gameplay looks pretty interesting. For an MMO.

We love the look of running up and down buildings and throwing cars in a persistent world on the PS3, but can't help feeling a niggle at the back of our mind. Why couldn't it be Marvel Universe Online? Maybe one day ...

Marvel-ous new Ultimate Alliance 2 trailer

Imagine if Marvel's super heroes were to form a sort of ... alliance. An ultimate one, at that. Then, they somehow gained the ability to fuse their powers together. You'd have yourself a Marvel Ultimate Alliance of Fusion, or "MUAF," but we don't think we like how that acronym crawls off the tongue. Tweak it a bit and you have Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion, Activision's next action-RPG team up set in the Marvel Comics universe, where players will, in fact, be able to combine the powers of various heroes to make more powerful powers.

The game was announced at Activision's E3 non-E3 event, where only a brief teaser was shown. This slightly longer snippet was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2008, which got underway today in Southern California. It indeed shows off various Marvel characters fusing their powers, but looks far from actual gameplay. It's still pretty slick to see Wolverine and The Hulk team up for a variation of the Fastball Special, though.

Mirror's Edge getting tie-in comic, first issue out now at Comic Con

We don't know much about the story of Mirror's Edge, other than it's written by Heavenly Sword and Overlord's Rhianna Pratchett. EA has today announced that a prequel comic is in production in collaboration with DC Comics, to elucidate the pre-game story and get some more hype for the game going. As if it needs it.

The first issue of the series, which will be written by Rhianna Pratchett along with the game, is available exclusively at Comic Con. So if you're in the San Diego area, stop by booth 5233 at the convention to grab the comic and try out the game first hand. Even if you don't enjoy it, issue 1 will probably sell quite well on ebay. If you do make it to the show, make sure you stop by the PlayStation booth too, for lots more hands-on gaming opportunities.

Comic-Con 08: Will Wright keynote

Will Wright gave the opening keynote today at the nerd-packed Comic-Con 2008, an event so chock full of fellow geeks we're hard-pressed to find a free patch of San Diego Convention Center floor to stand on. For the first half hour or so Will rattled off profound observations and inspirational quips at approximately the speed of light, leaving the second half of the presentation to an extensive demo of the civilization and space stages of Spore.

The touted reveal of the MashON Spore Comic Book Creator wasn't much more than a few minutes' discussion of the tool that will live at http://mashon.com/spore/, enabling players to take the creatures and other assets they make in the game and import them into an interactive comic book creation engine. A booklet passed out to attendees while waiting for the keynote tells us you'll be able to drag and drop screenshots taken in Spore right into the tool, add audio and video clips and other assets, create and lay out the entire story environment and share it with friends via email or Flash embed code. Users can rate and save other players' stories on the Mashon.com site and play them back as digital flip books as well as print them out. Wright talked about how the Comic Book Creator fits within the overall ethos of the game, which is about putting players more in the role of George Lucas than Luke Skywalker, allowing them to actually create the worlds themselves beyond just playing in them.
