We've reached the point where every single Contra 4 news piece that comes in has us gripping the arms of our chairs, afraid that we'll fall from the dizzying heights of ecstasy that we've just been sent to. The experience is both exhilarating and terrifying.

Even this image of Contra 4's control setup, taken at one of Comic-Con's demo stations last week, gave us cause to throw our office windows open, yelling out our excitement to the pedestrians below. Press B to jump! Press Y to fire! Press L to switch weapons! How great life is!
Contra 4 controls give us pause (and other buttons) originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 04 Aug 2007 17:10:00 EST.
Sony's upcoming SRPG, Jeanne D'Arc impresses with stellar production values. At Comic Con, GameTrailers was able to talk to Kari Wahlgren, voice of the titular lead character. In the informal chat, you'll see that she doesn't have a French accent -- it's something she just had to pick up for her role. Sony emphasized that the accent needed to be mild. Looking at the footage, we think it works quite well for the role.

Seeing the voice behind Jeanne D'Arc originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 02 Aug 2007 05:30:00 EST. We kind of wrote off Comic Con Bringing it Home yesterday thinking that since it was July 30th that the whole Bringing it Home thing had officially come to an end and without our promised 300 theme. But, we were (thankfully) wrong and last night some more Comic Con goodies hit the XBLM. The final batch up content includes the 300 theme for 150 Microsoft points, another daily wrap-up, Chuck content as well as some Sarah Conner panel content too. Now, for the second time, we officially bid a farewell to you Comic Con 2007, you were great while you lasted, you gave us 300 goodies and that's all we can ask for.
Continue reading Comic-Con BiH Wrap: Wait, there's (300) more!

Comic-Con BiH Wrap: Wait, there's (300) more! originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 31 Jul 2007 09:15:00 EST. Most of the new video content available is Comic Con panel discussions of 300, Blade Runner, Superman Doomsday, and Supernatural with new themes from Yogi Bear, Wonder Woman and the Justice League. Speaking of themes, what ever happened to our promised 300 theme? Not only was it originally mentioned on the Xbox.com Comic Con page, but now any mention of it has been removed as we never saw it on the Marketplace. Someone from Warner Bros. is going to feel the wrath of X3F soon, be afraid. Anyhoo, Bringing it Home Comic Con edition is over, so take one final gander through all the downloadable goodness in the big handy list after the break. As we always say, long live Bringing it Home.
Continue reading Comic-Con BiH Wrap: The final wrap

Comic-Con BiH Wrap: The final wrap originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 30 Jul 2007 12:30:00 EST. So, we all should be happy to hear that The Behemoth is at Comic Con this year showing off their latest Castle Crashers build and we can't think of a better way to celebrate the re-emergence of the game than with some gameplay footage from the show floor. Embedded above is the new footage featuring our colorful Castle Crashers knights in a boss battle and kicking bum. Be sure to watch until the end when our heroes are forced to turn on eachother to win a kiss from their princess. We so got five bucks on the red knight.

[Via Game Stooge]
Video: Castle Crashers at Comic Con originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 29 Jul 2007 15:30:00 EST.
The Metal Gear collection is a hot item for hardcore Metal Gear fans. It includes nearly every game ever created in the Metal Gear franchise: the original Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and the PSP Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops. In addition, documentary DVDs will also be included. In Japan, the package ran a very affordable 6250 yen -- about the same cost of one modern retail game.

So, will this collection make its way over to the States? At Comic Con, Kotaku's Michael McWhertor spoke to Konami's marketing VP, Anthony Kraus about the issue. He confirmed that Konami was "considering" the package, but they had to talk to retailers about interest in such a collection. If the collection comes to America, it might not be the exact same collection. It will, however, be "very similar."

No, not your dirty laundry wafting from the corner of your bedroom, it's the third day of Comic-Con Bringing it Home content and it's chalk-full of videos. Today we have a few themes (but still no 300 ... waiting) and a bunch of video content from Comic-Con. Actually, there is so much content from Comic-Con that we aren't sure what most of it is. But we do know what Jericho is and today's offerings includes a Jericho HD trailer and we must say, it's very enjoyable. You'll notice there are quite a few new purchasable themes available today including Babylon 5, Scooby-Doo and The Flintstones all for 150 Microsoft points. But if free is your kind of price, then download the free Rush Hour 3 theme and gamer picture pack, you know ... because it's free. Also available is a Superman Doomsday trailer and two other panel videos touching on an "interesting" analysis of the voices of Popeye and something called The Life and Art of Toth. Yeah, we aren't too sure about that one either. As always, make your way to the break and view all the new content available on the XBLM this second day of Comic-Con coverage.
Continue reading Comic-Con BiH Wrap: 2nd day brings theme'age

Comic-Con BiH Wrap: 2nd day brings theme'age originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 27 Jul 2007 11:45:00 EST. Though, things are starting off a little slower than expected with only a Looney Tunes trailer, Superman theme, and a Comic-Con 2007 gamer picture. But then again, the Comic-Con gamer pic is totally free and totally cool, so we're (oddly enough) somewhat satisfied. Make your way to the break to see a complete list of all the new Bringing it Home content available on the XBLM and enjoy the first days' somewhat lackluster offerings.
Continue reading Comic-Con BiH Wrap: it's a slow start

Comic-Con BiH Wrap: it's a slow start originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 26 Jul 2007 11:00:00 EST. Beginning August 1st (in the US), the Xbox 360 HD DVD player add on will receive a $20 price cut, retail for $179 and include five free HD DVD movies as part of the "Perfect Offer". The five free movie deal runs from August 1st through September 30th, full list of free HD DVDs to choose from posted after the break.

Also announced was Microsoft's partnership with Warner Bros. to feature 300 in HD on the XBLM starting August 14th and offer exclusive Heroes Marketplace downloads prior to its season one release to HD DVD. The free Heroes content will include trailers, episode teasers, promotional materials and a free Marketplace download of the pilot episode in HD.

With today's HD DVD player price drop it makes it one of the cheapest ways to experience HD content and is quite the tempting offer. We just might end up caving in this August and splurging to experience the look and sound of perfect. That's right, Microsoft and Warner Bros. have partnered to create 300 (total) Xbox 360 Elites themed with 300 style blood splatter. Yup, they're hot. But before you get too excited know that these Elites will only be given away during a special movie screening at Petco field during Comic-Con, which means we have no chance at winning one of these. Oh well ... they are still sort of pretty, so feel free to check out additional pictures of the 300 themed Elite as well as the official Comic-Con Bringing it Home press release after the break. Well, things are a little more clear as Xbox.com posted some information on the event and what they'll be offering. We know that starting tomorrow July 26th through Jul 29th Xbox Live and Warner Bros. are partnering up to offer a bunch of content including video from Comic-Con, the latest trailers, movie previews, TV content, random footage and theme/gamer picture dowloads. So, it sounds like they have a lot of content planned. We also know that there will be a a DC Comics and 300 theme download (but we're not sure if they will cost us or if they are free) and we also spotted a Looney Tunes Acme Arsenal game box on the page making us think that a demo will appear on the XBLM. Bringing it Home Comic-Con 2007 will kick off tomorrow, so be prepared for anything, everything or nothing.
Bringing Comic-Con Home details originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 25 Jul 2007 10:00:00 EST. No, it wasn't an ad for a $5 pizza sale at Pizza Hut (although pizza does sound mighty tasty), it was an ad for Bringing it Home Comic-Con 2007. We're still a little puzzled to what Bringing it Home Comic-Con has to offer as we have yet to hear anything from Microsoft pertaining to such festivities, but we're welcoming it all with open arms. So, we'll keep our ears open while you keep your download fingers ready, because the mysterious Bringing it Home Comic-Con 2007 kicks off July 26th through the 29th. Here's to hoping we get at least one free downloadable comic book.
Bringing it Home Comic-Con style originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 23 Jul 2007 14:30:00 EST. Sony made a big deal about Star Wars Battlefront at this year's E3. So much so, that they had a Chewbacca announce a special Star Wars-branded PSP Lite. We still have serious reservations about the game -- it still seems much too ambitious for our system to handle. Well, will we be proved wrong? (Hopefully!)

Renegade Squadron will be playable at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego, from July 26th-29th. We're still recovering from post-E3 shock, and won't be able to make it to the event ... but maybe some of our readers can? If you're able to play the game for us, please send us a tip so that we can get your impressions.

Now, check out some brand new screenshots of the game, fresh from E3:

Star Wars Battlefront to make playable debut at Comic Con originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 18 Jul 2007 22:20:00 EST. It's a somewhat more faithful sculpture of Simon as he appeared in the first Castlevania on the NES. Unfortunately, only 1,000 units will be produced, and it will only be available at the San Diego Comic-Con.

We totally want this, and we are all about pixel art, but we must say that this figure, with its rounded edges and inexact paint job, looks a little more like a cookie to us than an action figure. Which actually gives us an idea!

Sony revealed some crucial new features of the PSP today:

PSP will work as a remote for the PS3.

Advertisements for the budget Greatest Hits collection will be released on July 25.

PSP's firmware update next Thursday will offer RSS Video feed support for its web browser.

Thursday's firmware update will also have a demo of World Tour Soccer 2.

There are no plans to improve text entry on the PSP and no plans for a first-party keyboard.

Sony's in talks with wi-fi providers to make it easier for PSP owners to connect. (Similar to Nintendo's deal with Wayport?)

Video-out (to connect to a TV/computer) is a feature that they're working on.

Connect wants to provide video content to the PSP, but can't seem to find the right way to implement DRM. (But doesn't firmware 2.6+ offer DRM video support?)
