Spurs game on ESPN last night, and it's chock full of all the Max Payne-y things you'd expect - slow motion bullets, slow motion jumping, slow motion ladies, etc.<br /><br />It's a little sad that the game is billed as "from the makers of <em>Grand Theft Auto</em> and <em>Red Dead Redemption</em>," considering that the original <em>Max Payne</em> predates both <em>GTA3</em> and the entire Red Dead franchise. Then again, a modern 18 year old gamer would only have been seven years old when the series originally debuted in 2001, so we can't really blame Rockstar for playing to its target demographic's familiarities. Kids these days with their <em>Macintosh computers</em> and their <em>Fiat 500s</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/21/heres-max-payne-3s-tv-commercial/">Here's Max Payne 3's TV commercial</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 21 Apr 2012 13:30:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> is about to celebrate its seventh anniversary on November 23 next week (which means that some of its players have been alive for less time than the game's servers have been up), and to celebrate, Blizzard is giving everyone who logs in between this Sunday and December 3 a Feat of Strength achievement (which means it's only available during this time) and <a href="http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/3968197">a "celebration package" item</a>. The item will fire off a virtual fireworks display, and gives players a spiffy new tabard, as well as a 7% experience point and reputation bonus when used.<br />
<br />
The company will also introduce a brand new <a href="http://wow.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/new-wow-ads-featuring-shatner-and-mr-t/">"What's your game?" celebrity TV commercial</a> this weekend during the Bears/Chargers game on CBS. The star of the new commercial is set to be a surprise, so you can start guessing right now in the comments below. We have no idea who it might be, but considering all of the stars so far (William Shatner, Mr. T, Ozzy Osbourne, Jean Claude Van Damme, and Verne Troyer), a girl might be nice?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/19/world-of-warcraft-offers-new-in-game-item-new-tv-spot-for-seven/">World of Warcraft offers new in-game item, new TV spot for seventh anniversary</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Nov 2011 05:30:00 EST. Ever thought "<a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ni-no-kuni"><em>Ni no Kuni</em></a> looks nice, but I wonder what it would look like without all that Studio Ghibli art?" Neither have we, but you should watch these Japanese live-action ads for <em>Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch</em> anyway.<br />
<br />
In the brief clip above, and one more after the break, voice actress Mana Ashida explores realistic CG interpretations of locations from the game. She's almost certainly looking at green screens, but she looks suitably impressed! We're also impressed, but we have the benefit of actually seeing the impressive vistas.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/17/ni-no-kuni-commercials-offer-a-more-realistic-look-at-another-wo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ni no Kuni commercials offer a more realistic look at another world</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/17/ni-no-kuni-commercials-offer-a-more-realistic-look-at-another-wo/">Ni no Kuni commercials offer a more realistic look at another world</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Nov 2011 13:40:00 EST. While you watch the Packers and Saints take each other out during tonight's NFL Kickoff game at 8:30PM EDT, you'll easily pardon this action-packed interruption from <em>Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception</em>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/08/uncharted-3s-main-villainess-katherine-marlowe-revealed/">Team Marlowe</a>, if you recall, plays dirty.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/uncharted-3s-premise-crammed-into-23-seconds/">Uncharted 3's premise crammed into 23 seconds</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Sep 2011 17:30:00 EST. It was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/17/valve-making-portal-2-ads-on-its-own/">just this morning</a> that we were reporting on Valve's plans to handle all of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/portal-2"><em>Portal 2's </em></a>advertising in-house, and now here we are, watching the first TV commercial for the game. It stars Atlas and P-body, the robotic co-op characters, who quickly learn how seriously GLaDOS wants to play.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/17/portal-2-commercial/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GLaDOS puts robots to the test in first Portal 2 commercial</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/17/portal-2-commercial/">GLaDOS puts robots to the test in first Portal 2 commercial</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Mar 2011 18:50:00 EST. LucasArts has tapped comedy troupe Robot Chicken for this new <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2</em> ad. We see <em>right</em> through it though! Clearly, it's a Jedi mind trick employing real laughs to cover up that <em>laughable</em> game plot. Back in 2001, Nintendo released a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOvwdVp8Fvo">fairly gorgeous commercial</a> for <em>Golden Sun</em> -- however, for all its glitz and glamor, it wasn't exactly packing in the <em>coherence</em> department. A giant crystal dragon, totally wrecking shop in a jam-packed opera house? We don't remember that in the original Game Boy Advance RPG. As it turns out, there's <a href="http://tinycartridge.com/post/1673171801/old-golden-sun-commercial-finally-makes-sense-thanks-to">a reason for that</a>: That sequence wouldn't make it into the franchise until this very year, with the release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/golden-sun-dark-dawn"><em>Golden Sun: Dark Dawn</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Check out a comparison of the commercial and the (slightly spoilery) clip from <em>Dark Dawn</em> after the jump -- just try not to think about why it took almost a decade for the translucent dragon to arrive. Was the commercial just <em>pre</em><em>scient</em> or something?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/27/classic-golden-sun-commercial-finally-explained-by-dark-dawn/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Classic Golden Sun commercial finally explained by Dark Dawn</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/27/classic-golden-sun-commercial-finally-explained-by-dark-dawn/">Classic Golden Sun commercial finally explained by Dark Dawn</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 27 Nov 2010 19:00:00 EST. Following yesterday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/19/kevin-butler-steals-cars-our-hearts-in-gran-turismo-5-commercia/"><em>Gran Turismo 5 </em>ad</a>, Sony unveiled two additional commercials today starring the ersatz executive. Both ads push the PS3's appeal for the "whole family" (meaning not just <em>you</em>): one highlighting its utility as a Blu-Ray player, and the other depicting PSN's ability to make the device a Facebooking, Netflixing multimedia set-top box.<br />
<br />
Despite the mainstream message, both ads also have some value to the PS3 "core gamer" -- because they're pretty funny, if just a <em>touch</em> (or sniff) creepy. See them after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/19/kevin-butler-will-sell-ps3s-to-your-fake-tv-family/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kevin Butler will sell PS3s to your fake TV family</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/19/kevin-butler-will-sell-ps3s-to-your-fake-tv-family/">Kevin Butler will sell PS3s to your fake TV family</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Nov 2010 16:30:00 EST. Okay, maybe not just babies -- but kids at heart. Adults with baby heads is apparently the image Sony wants to promote for its first-ever advertising campaign for Latin America.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/10/playstation-move-is-for-babies-first-official-latin-american-ad/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PlayStation Move is for babies, first official Latin American ad suggests</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/10/playstation-move-is-for-babies-first-official-latin-american-ad/">PlayStation Move is for babies, first official Latin American ad suggests</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Nov 2010 20:30:00 EST. EA has developed one of the most perplexing ad campaigns we've ever seen to promote its upcoming racer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit"><em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em></a>. It's a five-part <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o77dKDdhcV0&amp;p=6F3213D597078FE2&amp;playnext=1">mini-series</a> following the shenanigans of two valets, one of which is also secretly a renegade cop (?), and one of which is also a street racer (?). Of course, they don't bust fools or drive fast in these ads. They park cars, because they're valets. Sometimes, they don't park the cars<span style="font-style: italic;">, b</span><em>ecause they're edgy</em>.<br />
<br />
Oh, and they're played by Jerry Ferrara and Kevin Dillon, whom you may know from the hit television series <em>Entourage</em>, or, if you're not an HBO subscriber, <em>Hotel for Dogs</em>. Check out the first two entries into this commercial series, titled "Officer Douche" and "You Park It," respectively, after the jump. After that, join us in wishing that these ads get their own spin-off television show, <em>Cavemen</em>-style. We'd love to see the complexities of these characters unfold, you know?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/02/theres-a-lot-going-on-in-these-need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-comm/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>There's a lot going on in these Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit commercials</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/02/theres-a-lot-going-on-in-these-need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-comm/">There's a lot going on in these Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit commercials</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Nov 2010 22:40:00 EST. Kick! Jump! Flail! All these actions -- and <em>so, so</em> <em>many more</em> -- await your first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kinect">Kinect</a> experience. As the first TV ads demonstrate, Kinect is meant not just for you and your family, but also your giant, brightly-lit living room. We started building home additions right after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2010">E3</a>. You can learn a lot from this behind the scenes look at the <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/halo-reach"><em>Halo: Reach</em></a> "Deliver Hope" ad. For example, did you know that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/video/ed67c106">the ad</a> marks the first appearance of a fully suited, live-action Spartan? And did you know Spartans aren't actually <em>real</em>? Yeah, we're bummed too. <em>Thanks a lot</em>, Microsoft.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/15/video-the-making-of-the-halo-reach-deliver-hope-ad/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: The making of the Halo: Reach 'Deliver Hope' ad</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/15/video-the-making-of-the-halo-reach-deliver-hope-ad/">Video: The making of the Halo: Reach 'Deliver Hope' ad</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Oct 2010 16:20:00 EST. Sony faux-spokesman Kevin Butler's no stranger to talking smack about competitors -- though, for the life of us, we never expected him to turn his scornful eye upon <em>infant dogs</em>. Check out the US commercial for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/eyepet"><em>EyePet</em></a> after the jump as we await a rebuttal from the dog people of the world.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/17/watch-your-back-puppies-kevin-butler-talks-up-eyepet/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch your back, puppies: Kevin Butler talks up EyePet</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/17/watch-your-back-puppies-kevin-butler-talks-up-eyepet/">Watch your back, puppies: Kevin Butler talks up EyePet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Sep 2010 02:00:00 EST. Sony, here's an idea: just let <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kevin-butler">Kevin Butler</a> control your entire company. Seriously, Sir Howard Stringer is a great guy and all, don't get us wrong -- we've been up plenty of nights bawling our eyes out while he cradled us in his big, burly arms, assuring us that the PS3 would in fact be okay -- but Kevin Butler has proven in his latest ad that he's more than capable for the job. <br />
<br />
Just look at the image above and tell us the guy isn't CEO material. Heck, even better: watch the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move/">PlayStation Move</a> ad for yourself past the break and try to tell us it isn't the highlight of your day!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/02/kevin-butler-shows-us-the-epic-side-of-playstation-move/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kevin Butler shows us the epic side of PlayStation Move</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/02/kevin-butler-shows-us-the-epic-side-of-playstation-move/">Kevin Butler shows us the epic side of PlayStation Move</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Sep 2010 18:00:00 EST. A Japanese TV commercial ties the game to the past even more directly, showing the original NES game morphing into <em>Other M</em> gameplay footage. The ad even goes so far as to declare this "a Famicom game with the latest technology," a tagline that also came up several times in the last <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/11/metroid-other-m-team-under-the-iwata-asks-microscope/">Iwata Asks interview</a>.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, the American commercial focuses on the "other M," as in: melodrama -- <em>total melodrama</em>. See the beautiful slow-motion, live-action TV spot unfold just below the Japanese ad after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/20/metroid-other-m-ads-focus-on-nostalgia-overacting/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metroid: Other M ads focus on nostalgia, overacting</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/20/metroid-other-m-ads-focus-on-nostalgia-overacting/">Metroid: Other M ads focus on nostalgia, overacting</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Aug 2010 10:54:00 EST. Rather than just copy SCEA's smarmy spokesperson outright (like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/20/kevin-butler-commercial-cloned-in-new-zealand/"><em>some</em> companies</a> have chosen to do), Sony Japan has settled upon a new mascot for its advertisements: <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/07/28/playstation-3-meets-its-most-delicious-rival/">a scallion</a>. Or rather, several scallions, sharing a central ... bulb thingy. Fine, you caught us. We just don't know much about onions.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/29/ads-featuring-new-japanese-ps3-spokesperson-leek-onto-internet/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ads featuring new Japanese PS3 spokesperson leek onto internet</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/29/ads-featuring-new-japanese-ps3-spokesperson-leek-onto-internet/">Ads featuring new Japanese PS3 spokesperson leek onto internet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Jul 2010 01:00:00 EST. Blizzard wants the masses to know that something big is on the horizon -- even if this extremely pretty CGI teaser airing on TV might have people thinking <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/StarCraft-2-Wings-Of-Liberty">StarCraft 2</a> is really a sci-fi movie. For the rest of us, it's a taste of the epic cinematics we'll be treated to when the game ships July 27.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/11/starcraft-2-tv-spot-wants-you-to-know-war-is-coming/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>StarCraft 2 TV spot wants you to know 'war is coming'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/11/starcraft-2-tv-spot-wants-you-to-know-war-is-coming/">StarCraft 2 TV spot wants you to know 'war is coming'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jun 2010 21:00:00 EST. <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/05/17/modnation-racers-artist-spotlight-kevin-butler-nuff-said/">The latest video</a> from Sony's fictional Vice President of <em>a whole bunch of things</em> has everything you could ever ask for: Tons of Kevin Butler <em>bon mots</em>, some clips of gameplay footage from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/modnation-racers"><em>ModNation Racers</em></a>, and an appearance by real-life Sony president and CEO Jack Tretton. Unless, of course -- what if Tretton's actually just a highly paid actor as well? Come to think of it, we've never seen him in any context except for ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/engadget-and-joystiq-live-from-sonys-e3-2008-keynote/">on the stage</a>! <br />

Also, the video contains a sneak peek at Kevin Butler's custom Mod and race track -- both of which will be available to download when <em>ModNation Racers</em> launches next week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/17/kevin-butler-hypes-modnation-racers-gets-schooled-by-tretton/">Kevin Butler hypes ModNation Racers, gets schooled by Tretton</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 May 2010 12:08:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Netflix/">Netflix</a> movie streaming may be available on all the major consoles in the States now, but it's the demographic-busting Wii that most recently got some high-quality ad treatment from the rental service. In the commercial, a gallant knight is off to fulfill his destiny and leaves "a piece" of himself behind for a young maiden. Without getting into the Freudian subtext oozing out of the ad, it's a pretty clever piece of marketing. Check it out after the break.<br />

Pfft, "debuts?" More like <em>soars across a whimsical landscape directly into our hearts</em>. We were pressed for space, okay? Maybe that's why we're so keen to stare at yet another snippet of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-galaxy-2">Super Mario Galaxy 2</a></em> -- if we watch this commercial (embedded after the break) carefully, the perpetually cheerful plumber might impart some lessons on space usage. Here's yet another way of making your way into PlayStation history. Sony has a casting call out for an upcoming zombie game - most likely <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-nation">Dead Nation</a>, </em>from the makers of <em>Super Stardust HD</em> - and it's looking for twenty gamers to star as a zombie in an upcoming trailer shoot, to be filmed in San Francisco.<br />
<br />
Interested applicants must send their personal info, including a face pic, to zombies@playstation.sony.com. If selected, participants will be expected to work on set 10 hours per day on both May 15th and 16th wearing zombie make-up and costumes provided by SCEA. Unfortunately, you will "not be compensated" and "not all participants selected will be used." It sounds like a lot of work to us, but for some, this may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be immortalized in a PlayStation commercial.<br />

One of the most iconic "power-ups" in gaming has to be <em>Metal Gear Solid</em>'s cardboard box. This new Japanese ad for Kojima's latest, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-peace-walker"><em>Peace Walker</em></a>, gives the stealthy item the spotlight. In the commercial, a Japanese schoolboy can be seen stalking a few of his fellow classmates. As he finds the two alone, he strikes, asking them to "please enter my box."<br />
<br />
Unfortunately for the girl, the box boy wasn't asking about her. He invites the other boy into the cardboard box, as the commercial introduces the new co-op box-wearing mechanic of <em>Peace Walker</em>. You can check it out after the break.<br />

<em>Halo 3</em>'s amazing "Believe" campaign and the less well-known PlayStation "Mountain" ad have found a place on <a href="http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/2010/05/25-epic-commercials-that-arent-called-1984.html">AdFreak</a>'s list of "The 25 most epic ads that aren't [Apple's] '1984.'" The <em>Halo 3</em> campaign made it all the way to the eighth spot, while "Mountain," with its 1,500 extras, climbed to 17th place. The PS2 spot just barely beat out the incredibly memorable US Marine Corp "Chess" ad -- <em>yeah</em>, the one with the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHm8MeNzadQ&amp;feature=player_embedded">wizards and knights</a>.<br />
<br />
<em>Halo 3</em>'s ad campaign was certainly an achievement, with atmosphere that eclipsed anything the game eventually provided. "Believe" had all those memorable elements: the diorama (<em>wow</em>, that diorama), the old men reminiscing, the History Channel feel of it all. It was the type of pretentious that works -- which is more than we can say for <em>Halo: Reach</em>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/29/full-halo-reach-live-action-short-is-longer/">Nair boy and his Gatorade injections</a>. Check out the "Believe" campaign and "Mountain" ad after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/05/halo-3s-believe-and-ps2s-mountain-make-epic-ad-list/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Halo 3's 'Believe' and PS2's 'Mountain' make 'epic ad' list</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/05/halo-3s-believe-and-ps2s-mountain-make-epic-ad-list/">Halo 3's 'Believe' and PS2's 'Mountain' make 'epic ad' list</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 May 2010 11:30:00 EST. Sure, there's a bit of gameplay video thrown in, but most of it centers on the much talked about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/27/skate-3-video-gets-by-with-a-little-help-from-some-friends/">online friend system</a> by way of uniting skateboarders, apparently under an umbrella of <em>brutality</em>. <br />
<br />
With a <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2010/04/15/skate-3-demo-now-on-xbox-live-for-all-gold-members/">demo already available</a> and the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/skate-3-may-11-release-date/">May 11 release date</a> fast approaching, we're not sure you need much more to get you on board for <em>Skate 3</em>, but we'd suggest checking out the commercial just to see what happens at the end. We've seen so many instances where the LEGO toy brand has infiltrated the world of video games over the past few years -- that's why it's so downright refreshing to see the tables get turned. Just past the jump is a commercial for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/16/disney-and-lego-team-up-for-prince-of-persia-toys/">that new line of wonderbricks</a> based on the upcoming film adaptation of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie"><em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em></a>. It's full of assassins, traps that are ready to spring on a teeny little Jake <strike>Gyllenhaal</strike> Gyllenblock, but, strangely, nary a trace of the slow-motion -- which is so prevalent in the film and games.<br />
<br />
Though your mind may immediately wander to the possibility of a <em>LEGO</em> video game based on Jordan Mechner's action-platforming franchise, we'd like to remind you that LEGO bricks are, in and of themselves, <em>completely rad</em>. LEGO bricks based on one of our favorite game series are doubly so.<br />

We didn't hear about <em>that</em> at any press conference! But there's Kevin Butler, addressing us from November 2010 about advances in nutrition and the success of the PlayStation Move. That means, according to Sony's time travel technology, the Move should be out sometime in November at the latest.<br />
<br />
This commercial features plenty of footage of some guy completely battering air in <em>Motion Fighter</em>, along with some not-so-subtle callouts of the motion-based competition, and even a little bit of reverent <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/jack-tretton">Tretton</a> worship. Check the ad out after the break.<br />

Although it commanded a large presence at E3, Sony has been otherwise quiet about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/god-of-war-iii"><em>God of War III</em></a>. With the game's release only weeks away, Sony has opened the floodgates, revealing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/26/god-of-war-iii-features-first-person-kills/">new footage</a>, highlighting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/01/god-of-war-3-lead-combat-designer-adam-puhl-interview/">new levels</a>, and most importantly, advertising the game on TV. The European markets are treated to an ad which simply states "Revenge Starts Here." The ad doesn't need a gimmick: it simply relies on real-time footage of the game.<br />

Check it out after the break.<br />

<a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/02/23/heavy-rain-tv-ad-unveiled/">PlayStation Blog</a> has dropped the European advertisement for <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/02/23/heavy-rain-tv-ad-unveiled/"><em>Heavy Rain</em></a>. The ad, which you can watch after the break, places a <em>heavy</em> emphasis (geddit?) on the various choices that players make throughout the game. Specifically, it asks players to "start a journey that changes with every single decision." The PS Blog post notes that different versions of the ad will be airing in several countries over the next few weeks, so be sure to keep an eye out for it.<br />
<br />
If there's any justice in the universe, the US version will feature <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kevin-butler">Kevin Butler</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/23/watch-heavy-rains-european-tv-ad/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch Heavy Rain's European TV ad</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/23/watch-heavy-rains-european-tv-ad/">Watch Heavy Rain's European TV ad</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Feb 2010 13:00:00 EST. There, the roguelike dungeon crawler is a big enough deal to warrant television advertising! And that's a good thing, because these TV ads for <em>Shiren 4</em> (after the break) are absolutely wonderful, featuring puppets(!) of Shiren, Koppa, and monsters in the new tropical island setting.<br />
<br />
Of course, if you were to go into this game based on the sunny commercials, you might be a bit surprised when you're <em>murdered repeatedly by monsters</em>, losing all items and progress each time. We hope someone gets the idea to sell <em>Shiren</em> puppets.<br />

Square Enix is promoting the DS remake of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/dragon-quest-vi"><em>Dragon Quest VI</em></a> the same way it did for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/06/dqiv-better-than-actual-questing-says-commercial/">IV</a> </em>and <em>V</em>: with a wonderfully goofy commercial featuring actors dressed up as hilarious semi-realistic versions of the game's Akira Toriyama characters. This ad totally fills us with nostalgia for a childhood that we didn't actually spend playing this game!<br />
