GameFly has filed a formal complaint with the United States Postal Service over breakage rates and preferential treatment for its competitors, reports Shacknews. The company claims that the USPS has "adopted a practice of manually culling out the DVD mailers of two high-volume shippers of DVDs, Netflix and Blockbuster, for special processing." The company states that when it requested the same treatment that it was denied.

GameFly stated that in-transit breakage -- which it claims is about 1% -- still occur, despite the company's efforts to reduce that by using cardboard protectors and "tests with larger mailers." The company has also experienced "substantial rates" of disc theft, but the USPS has cracked down on that, with the arrest of 19 USPS employees. GameFly even changed its mailer color from bright orange to a very plain white years ago to reduce theft.

When approached by Joystiq regarding the situation, GameFly responded with "no comment."
GameFly files formal complaint against USPS over breakage rates, preferential treatment originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 24 Apr 2009 18:15:00 EST. The victims of the fire were compensated according to their insurance coverage. But, now that insurance company has filed a complaint (warning: pdf link) against Nintendo with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky yesterday, stating "The [DS] was defective in design, manufacture and/or because it failed to warn consumers as to dangers associated with it... due to defects existing within the Product which caused a risk of overheating and fire, the Product was recalled by Nintendo."

The Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Company is seeking the 263,000 they paid out to the family, as well as court costs and interest.

Nintendo sued over DS Lite charger originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 22 Dec 2008 16:32:00 EST. An adjudication statement from Britain's Advertising Standards Authority outlines seventeen distinct complaints over the animated violence in an ad for Twilight Princess and Red Steel. One complainant even thought the ad was "reminiscent of recent videos released by hostage-takers in Iraq." Yikes!

Fear not, freedom-of-speech loving Brits; the Authority reviewed the content and determined that "the ad was unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence. [sic]" Surprisingly, we have yet to hear any similarly official complaints about Sony's excessively weird PS3 ad campaign. Apparently a creepy guy in a jock strap ranks below simulated sword violence on the British disturb-o-meter.

[Via VNUNet]
Seventeen Brits complain about Wii ad violence originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 30 Mar 2007 12:28:00 EST.
