James visited the studio last year the day after the game was announced, and unfortunately passed away from a bout with liver cancer just recently. The Creative Assembly says he was the first person in the world from outside the studio to play the game, and character artist Mauro Bonelli offered to assemble a model of James from reference photos and measurements.

The screenshot above is a mockup for now, as Creative Assembly community manager Craig Laycock says the company isn't sure where he'll end up. But he will be in there, according to Laycock, and the team is "determined to make it a fitting tribute" to their fan when the game is on shelves later this year.

Total War fan will live on as a character in Rome 2 originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 21 Mar 2013 04:00:00 EST. Just like fellow small-time publisher SouthPeak, Majesco is raking in some serious moolah. The company is reporting that net revenues for its first fiscal quarter (ending January 31, 2009) are at $32.8 million, a 75.8% increase over the same period last year. Also, net income increased 54% to $4.2 million.

The massive cash influx is all due to strong sales numbers in Majesco's casual games line. Cooking Mama, and Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009 are counted as the breadwinning titles, as the latter has sold over 500,000 copies. Yes, half a million ... you can pick your jaw off the floor now. Who said third-parties can't be successful on Nintendo platforms?
Majesco revenues shoot up 75% (Thanks, Cooking Mama & Jillian Michaels!) originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 12 Mar 2009 01:28:00 EST. Christmas-colored arrows would tell you otherwise, but in fact the only changes in rank were the Game Boy Micro and the GBA SP swapping out the number seven and eight slots, respectively.

So, what to do without our usual fountain of inspiration from which to draw? Part of our jobs include scouring the internet for days, nay, weeks straight, searching far and wide for things to make you, our readers, feel cool and well-informed. In our trek across digital lands we find many awesome things that may not relate to the Wii directly, and yet, we wished we could share them with you regardless. Now's our chance! It also stresses that this new PSP color will be "promoting the further enlargement [of the PSP] platform powerfully in the future in the Japanese country." So take from that what you will.

Following last year's Q3 loss of $37.5mln, this Q3's net loss of $724,000 barely registers on the meter. So the question Majesco has to answer is, if people won't buy Advent Rising or Psychonauts, what will they buy? How about Bust-a-Move Revolution, an update of the popular bubble popping series coming to the Wii early 2007. They've been buying it for years, what's to stop them for doing so again (now with more bubbles!)

How's their revised strategy working out thus far? In his analysis of Majesco's earnings report, Wedbush Morgan Securities' Michael Pachter writes, "Although the results posted the last three quarters show significant progress, Majesco still is short of cash and may face an uphill battle in its return to profitability. We believe that there is potential for further improvement in revenues, and should the company be able to maintain its current cost structure, we believe it is possible that it will return to profitability sometime next year." Just so long as they don't release any more JAWS Unleashed games. We don't care if it did experience stronger than expected sales.

The Majesco affair:

There's still a chance Majesco might run out of money in the near future, but the New Jersey-based company'slatest financial results are providing investors with some hope that a turnaround might be in the works, according to aresearch report by Wedbush Morgan Securities analysts Michael Pachter and Edward Woo.

The company made moremoney than anybody expected in the latest quarter. They also managed to keep their costs low and have decided to focuson lower-budget console and handheld titles. How does a game developer on the rocks keep costs low? By firing the QAstaff, of course! The company notes in its latest financial statement that lower R&D costs are "principallyattributable to lower quality assurance employee costs as a result of the fewer number of premium game projectscurrently in the development cycle."

Pachter and Woo (who maintain a "sell" rating on thecompany's stock) write, "Although we are still unable to paint a rosy picture about Majesco's prospects, wethink that the shift in strategy is the right decision, and note that the company has begun to show signs ofimprovement."
