You know, we thought we were pretty talented when we built a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/17/today-in-joystiq-october-17-2007/">papercraft Weighted Companion Cube</a>. Sure, we never actually finished it, but that one corner looked great. Imagine our dismay, nay, our <em>horror</em> at glimpsing the homemade <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/portal"><em>Portal</em></a> turret seen above. Created by one Ryan Palser, the turret is a marvel of ingenuity, standing over three feet tall and observing all through its laser-infused eye. The damned thing even packs a motion sensor and spouts its iconic catchphrases when someone approaches.<br />
<br />
In short, Mr. Palser, you have crushed our creative impulses as easily as we crushed our poorly constructed paper Companion Cube. Congratulations. Those whose creative dreams are not easily squelched can view exhaustively detailed build photos on <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ryanpalser/sets/72157624786182542/with/5702791370/">Mr. Palser's flickr page</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/09/homemade-portal-turret-is-very-very-intimidating/">Homemade Portal turret is very, very intimidating</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 May 2011 22:05:00 EST. We see a lot of neat, homemade tchotchkes designed by gaming's most craftwise enthusiasts. But nothing has made us want to jump through the internet and steal such a creation quite like Jonathan Guberman's <em>Portal 2</em> turret plushie. Check out the <em>adorable</em> demo here.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/26/adorable-talking-portal-turret-plushie-probably-wont-shoot-you/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Adorable, talking Portal turret plushie probably won't shoot you</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/26/adorable-talking-portal-turret-plushie-probably-wont-shoot-you/">Adorable, talking Portal turret plushie probably won't shoot you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Apr 2011 19:14:00 EST. Is your palate in need of some cleansing after drinking that disgusting, irradiated toilet water? Why not slurp down some crisp, refreshing Nuka-Cola? "Because it's not a real thing," you say? You obviously haven't been following the efforts of <a href="http://jmguelzo.tumblr.com/post/2856826792/i-designed-my-own-fallout-3-nuka-cola-bottles-i">Joel Guelzo</a>, who recently made that dream a reality.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/23/refresh-yourself-with-a-diy-nuka-cola-six-pack/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Refresh yourself with a DIY Nuka-Cola six pack</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/23/refresh-yourself-with-a-diy-nuka-cola-six-pack/">Refresh yourself with a DIY Nuka-Cola six pack</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 23 Jan 2011 11:30:00 EST. If we were given the choice of turn any character from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mass-effect-2"><em>Mass Effect</em></a> universe into an adorable plush doll, we'd probably lean towards the Elcor, or one of the Krogan -- you know, one of the <em>cuddlier</em> species. Prickly protagonist Garrus Vakarian? Way, <em>way</em> down on the list.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/24/garrus-plushie-turns-mass-effects-ugliest-dude-into-an-adorable/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Garrus Plushie turns Mass Effect's ugliest dude into an adorable doll</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/24/garrus-plushie-turns-mass-effects-ugliest-dude-into-an-adorable/">Garrus Plushie turns Mass Effect's ugliest dude into an adorable doll</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Dec 2010 18:30:00 EST. Etsy user <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/AnUnclesMonkey?ref=seller_info">AnUnclesMonkey</a> recently homebrewed a quartet of <em>Plants vs. Zombies</em> figurines -- all based on <em>living</em> species from the game. Act quickly, and you could even purchase one, including the Torchwood, Kernel Pult, Hypnoshroom or Peashooter (seen here).<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/26/handmade-plants-vs-zombies-figurines-are-just-so-precious/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Handmade Plants vs Zombies figurines are just so precious</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/26/handmade-plants-vs-zombies-figurines-are-just-so-precious/">Handmade Plants vs Zombies figurines are just so precious</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Oct 2010 17:40:00 EST. We've all got old, crummy games laying around. You could either throw those away or you could make a nice piece of folk art, like this sculpture of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/samus">Samus</a> created by JJ Hendricks. A crafty gamer by the name of Brandon McCool -- which we <em>pray</em> is his actual, given name -- recently completed a piece of nerdy furniture six months in the making: <a href="http://s893.photobucket.com/albums/ac137/brandonmccool/">A mosaic table</a> with 401 tiles upon its surface, each featuring a different Nintendo game character.<br />
<br />
As far as coffee tables go, this one's a pretty radical plane upon which to place large books and cold beverages. Though we're not sure the robin egg blue paint job meshes with the black leather couch, but -- oh, no, wait! It's got video game throw pillows as well. Our years of experience as interior decorators tell us that this pairing is a-ok.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/how-many-nintendo-characters-can-you-fit-in-one-tabletop-mosaic/">How many Nintendo characters can you fit in one tabletop mosaic? You might feel like hurling it from the roof into a waiting wood chipper. You might feel like drowning it in your own tears in a desperate attempt to cool its heat-blasted insides and restore it to life. Ultimately, however, you'll probably do what we all do: Send it in for repair. That is, unless you're Jasper Stevens.<br />
<br />
Stevens, you see, decided to turn his busted box into a robot sculpture. Featured at <a href="http://technabob.com/blog/2010/03/03/xbox-rrodman-robot/">technabob</a>, Stevens' RRoDMan is most productive form of nerd rage we've ever seen. Even more impressive, Stevens claims that the uses no tape or glue. We can only assume that the sculpture is held together by <em>broken dreams</em>.<br />

Honestly, we're not sure how <em>anyone</em> could come up with the idea of a <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=40581540">piranha plant keepsake box</a>. A keepsake box, ideally, is designed to keep your precious items in a safe place so you'll always know where they are. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/piranha-plant">Piranha plants</a>, on the other hand, are about as far away from <em>safe</em> as you can get. They're man-eating plants, some varieties of which can <em>breathe fire</em>. Still, despite all that, this keepsake box -- designed by Etsy user <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/lostmitten">lostmitten</a> -- still manages to be kind of cute. As of this writing, there is a single one available for purchase at $60.<br />
<br />
We <em>suppose</em> you could pick it up and store your old high school love notes in there. Just watch your fingers when you open it up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/12/this-pirahna-plant-keepsake-box-is-ironic/">This piranha plant keepsake box is ironic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Feb 2010 20:18:00 EST. <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/8BitMemory">8Bit Memory</a>, the <a href="http://www.etsy.com">Etsy</a> merchant who first caught our attention with its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/27/nes-carts-make-great-external-hard-drives-clocks-too/">external hard drives disguised as NES cartridges</a>, has rolled out another re-use for a proprietary Nintendo storage medium: Game Boy Advance cartridges retrofitted as USB flash drives. They're not cheap -- an 8GB drive is $49.99 -- but they're undeniably cool. <br />
<br />
The standard-issue drive comes housed in a <em>Super Mario Advance</em> cart with a key ring and (unfortunately) non-retractable USB connector. 8Bit Memory says it has other games in stock (with more to come) so you can, for instance, request a <em>Metroid Fusion</em> cart instead. We're not sure what it'll do with GameCube and Wii discs, But we'd imagine a <em>Wind Waker </em>desk clock would look mighty nice.<br />

It's awfully hard to find a way to cram more charm into the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-bros">Super Mario Bros.</a> </em>experience -- believe us, we've tried. Well, we're happy to report that GameVideos user smartkid82504 may have done <a href="http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/27619">just that</a>, re-imagining the classic platforming action of <em>Super Mario Bros. 3</em> through some scraps of paper, crayons, a stop-motion camera, and a bit of good, old-fashioned <em>moxie</em>.<br />

Head past the break to check it out.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/13/stop-motion-super-mario-bros-3-is-almost-as-fun-as-the-real-thi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Stop-motion Super Mario Bros. 3 is almost as fun as the real thing</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/13/stop-motion-super-mario-bros-3-is-almost-as-fun-as-the-real-thi/">Stop-motion Super Mario Bros. 3 is almost as fun as the real thing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jan 2010 16:43:00 EST. <div style="text-align: right;"><small>[<a href="http://hugohugo.deviantart.com/art/Brutal-Legend-Custom-Figure-149441496">hugohugo at deviantART</a>]</small></div>
deviantArt is usually the site you go to if you want to see uncomfortable, sexual doodles of anime characters and other such nonsense. Today, it's become the place to see the most badass Eddie Riggs homage known to man. In fact, we're pretty sure user hugohugo sold his soul to Satan for the ability to craft such <a href="http://hugohugo.deviantart.com/art/Brutal-Legend-Custom-Figure-149441496">a magnificent resemblance</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brutal-legend"><em>Br&uuml;tal Legend</em></a>'s protagonist.<br />
<br />
Compared to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brutal-legends-eddie-riggs-figurine/2155423/full/">the official alternative</a>, we have to say we dig hugohugo's a bit more. It's got <em>character</em> and is entirely posable -- even the fingers move for <em>wicked</em> faux-solos!<br />

We apparently missed one release in our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/28/now-playing-december-28-2009-january-3-2010/">Now Playing</a> list for this week: <em>8-bit Xmas 2009</em> for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nes">NES</a>. The cart was apparently constructed entirely from new parts and -- aside from incorporating the festive light display you see above -- is actually a fully functional NES game. The best part: you can totally buy it. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=23&amp;products_id=83">RetroZone</a> is selling the cart up until tomorrow for $43 and there's even a demo you can try out right in your browser. If you forgot someone on your gift-giving list, you can throw down $5 more and get a personalized title screen added along with a nice Christmas card. If there ever was a way to make up for being such a Procrastinating Pete, this is probably it.<br />

This has to be the most endearing display of cross-developer love we've seen during our games writing careers. Capcom's Shawn Baxter (a.k.a. "Snow,") <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2009/12/05/my_hand_made_fable_fortunes_tower_set">recently posted on the company's community blog</a> about his latest D.I.Y. project -- a real-life version of <em>Fortune's Tower</em>, one of the pub games featured in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fable-2"><em>Fable II</em></a>. Oh, and in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fable-2-pub-games"><em>Fable II Pub Games</em></a>, though you probably didn't need us to tell you that.<br />
<br />
Words can't really describe this two-month, $400 project as well as pictures, so hop on over to <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2009/12/05/my_hand_made_fable_fortunes_tower_set">Capcom's blog</a> and check out the <em>delectable</em> fruits of Baxter's labor. If you're of a crafty ilk, the post also contains a few blueprints you can follow to make your own <em>Fortune's Tower</em> set. We probably won't post about yours, though. This is a one-time thing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/06/capcom-employee-recreates-fable-iis-fortunes-tower-pub-game/">Capcom employee recreates Fable II's Fortune's Tower pub game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 06 Dec 2009 15:00:00 EST. Made for the son of a family friend, the crafty design features Nintendo's legendary hero mid-confrontation with his arch-enemy, Bowser.<br /> <br /> If the cake doesn't tickle your fancy, maybe the story behind it will. According to Alex, his wife wasn't familiar with the game so he picked up a copy for "research" purposes.<br /> <br /> So guys and gals, if you're looking for a way to get your significant other interested in video games, try to use their love of baked goods as an excuse to introduce games into the relationship. The results may be delicious.<br /> <br /> [Thanks, Alex]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/29/super-mario-galaxy-cake-is-out-of-this-world/">Super Mario Galaxy cake is out of this world</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 29 Nov 2009 18:30:00 EST. If you've got room in your heart for one more thing to be grateful for, may we recommend these adorable <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Resident-Evil/">Resident Evil</a></em> inspired grenade plushies (via <a href="http://www.spritestitch.com/?p=2443">Sprite Stitch</a>)? Video games and Lego go together like peanut butter and chocolate. We've seen wonderfully bricky homages to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/11/lego-kong-rolls-and-clanks-his-way-into-our-hearts/"><em>Donkey Kong</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/29/show-and-tell-pokemon-piece-by-piece/">cuddly little Pokemon</a>, an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/03/a-cheap-and-colorful-way-to-make-your-own-zapper/http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/03/a-cheap-and-colorful-way-to-make-your-own-zapper/">ingenious way to make your own Zapper</a> and even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/lego-mania-nintendo-fanboyism-combined/">recreations</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/14/someone-builds-a-rectangle-from-legos/">other Nintendo consoles</a> -- and now, a full NES set courtesy of <a href="http://new.mocpages.com/moc.php/162930">MOCpages</a>.<br />
<br />
Not only does it come with two controllers and a Lego cartridge, but the builder even went so far as to create a TV and mock gameplay. But, that's not even the kicker: the thing even has a working cartridge slot and power and reset buttons! We love our parents, don't get us wrong, but we seriously missed out on a large part of <em>awesome</em> during our childhood thanks to <a href="http://tokyohunter.blogspot.com/2009/07/dimension-diver-rockman-color-resin-kit.html">these wonderful statues</a>. Featuring your standard blue Mega Man, little sister Roll, and Chozo-suited Samus (among others), the set of resin statues was created by our new BFF, Dimension Diver (not to be confused with <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj7UBgVVew8">Holy Diver</a>, though just as awesome). Head past the break to check out Samus and Roll, but be sure to hit up <a href="http://tokyohunter.blogspot.com/2009/07/dimension-diver-rockman-color-resin-kit.html">Tokyo Hunter</a> if you're looking for more gaming characters. There are <span style="font-style: italic;">lots</span>, believe us.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://tinycartridge.com/post/152296339/mega-man-model-by-dimension-diver-shown-during">Tiny Cartridge</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/custom-gaming-statues-are-highly-desirable/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Custom gaming statues are highly desirable</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/custom-gaming-statues-are-highly-desirable/">Custom gaming statues are highly desirable</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Aug 2009 23:00:00 EST. "Hey, you got your hideous zombies in my cute platformer!" "Hey, <em>you</em> got your cuddly mascot in my zombie apocalypse!" Harmonix employee Milo (Could it be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/taking-a-walk-with-milo-molyneuxs-project-natal-game/"><em>him</em></a>? Probably not, but we have to wonder!) has crafted a set of custom Sackpeople fashioned after the Infected from Valve's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead"><em>Left 4 Dead</em></a>. You've got the Witch, the Hunter, the Boomer, the Smoker and the Tank. Not pictured, but evident in the photo: Pure genius. Please, MediaMolecule, make these happen as in-game costumes. <em>Ghostbusters</em> just <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/06/bustin-makes-sackboy-wear-a-hood/">isn't scary enough</a>. <div align="left">The world no longer has to <em>wonder</em> what the character sprites from an NES version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/half-life">Half-Life</a> </em>would look like, as Etsy artisan ArcadeArt has <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&amp;listing_id=24730109">given us the proverbial goods</a> ... and they're magnets made out of beads. There are plenty of things to love about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/madworld"><em>MadWorld</em></a>. The over-the-top slapstick action, the hilarious commentators, and fun Blood Bath Challenges are just a few of the things we enjoy in Platinum Games' latest title. Well, deviantART user ebooze loves the game's main character Jack so much that he decided to <a href="http://ebooze.deviantart.com/gallery/">make his own custom figurine</a>, complete with detachable chainsaws of both the bloody <em>and</em> clean variety. <div align="left">How adorable is this? It's the Prince from the 2008 <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia">Prince of Persia</a> </em>reboot recreated in Sackboy form. Media Molecule keeps saying that official, purchasable Sackboys are coming, but when we see stuff like this it makes the wait much harder. The two pictured above were made by craftswoman extraordinaire, Maggie Wang. Check out <a href="http://maggiewang.com/2009/02/07/sack-prince-of-persia">her website</a> for more pictures of Sackboy Prince from various angles, along with some tips on how he was made.<br /><br />Looking at these images we can't help but wish for some <em>LittleBigPlanet Prince of Persia</em> DLC in the future. Perhaps involving a wall-running powerup? Then again, what game <em>wouldn't</em> be awesome when converted to <em>LittleBigPlanet </em>DLC? Wonder when those <em>Final Fantasy VII</em> and <em>Killzone 2</em> packs will finally come out ...</div>

If Roger Ebert <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/13/ebert-thinks-games-are-getting-a-lot-better-prefers-knitting/">would rather knit</a> than play video games, how much interest would he have in a project that uses video game hardware to teach knitting? Well, probably not much, because he already knows how. But for people who already <em>like</em> games and want to like knitting, the <em>KNiiTTiiNG!</em> project might be a wonderful thing.<br /><br />Created by Rachel Beth Egenhoefer and Kyle E. Jennings, <em>KNiiTTiiNG </em>uses Wiimote and Nunchuk motions to simulate the movements of knitting needles, in a <em>Dance Dance Revolution</em>-style game in which players knit and purl in response to onscreen prompts in order to create virtual tea cozies and such.<br /><br />The project is currently in beta, but maybe if we're lucky we'll get some kind of homebrew release that uses the actual Wii, or at least a playable PC version. In the ideal situation, we'd remind the developers that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/WiiWare/">WiiWare</a> has no distribution or packaging costs! We'd love to use our expert waggling skills to learn a <em>real</em>, useful one.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.craftycrafty.tv/2009/01/kniitiing_using_the_nintendo_w.html">Crafty Crafty</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/07/kniittiing-teaches-creative-yarn-tangling-with-the-wiimote/">KNiiTTiiNG teaches creative yarn tangling with the Wiimote</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Jan 2009 18:15:00 EST. With the highly-anticipated release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/a-look-at-chrono-triggers-new-stuff/"><em>Chrono Trigger</em></a>, it seemed a good time to take a moment to celebrate all the love the game has seen over time. Well, perhaps not all the love, but some of the crafts, cosplay, and art the game's fans have put together.<br /><br />Take the guided tour <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/show-and-tell-the-chrono-crew/1184512/">right here</a>, or jump into the gallery below if you prefer to be a little more free with the space-time continuum ... or, uh, our Show and Tell presentation.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/show-and-tell-the-chrono-crew/">Show and Tell: The Chrono crew</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/show-and-tell-the-chrono-crew/#1184512"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/chrono_trigger_nu_by_nekomusume_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Attack of the beads" title="Attack of the beads" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/show-and-tell-the-chrono-crew/#1184513"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/chrono_trigger_dice_bag_by_suzafroda_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Chrono custom" title="Chrono custom" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/show-and-tell-the-chrono-crew/#1184515"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/899804269_3e6143efea_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Better with friends" title="Better with friends" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/show-and-tell-the-chrono-crew/#1184525"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/527044013_026e7371b6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Simply stunning" title="Simply stunning" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/show-and-tell-the-chrono-crew/#1184516"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/2314574203_12932ebb99_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Chrono stitch" title="Chrono stitch" /></a></div><br />

We've been talking a lot about <em>Mother 3</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/20/ds-daily-motherly-love/">recently</a>, and for good reason: the fan community is one of the strongest around, and they function without even a scrap of official love. Still, they soldier on, translating games, and, even better for us in this space, they make things. <br /><br />Of course, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/17/watch-the-prologue-of-mother-3-in-english/">fan translation</a> is about the biggest DIY project we could feature here, but we've already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/14/mother-3-fan-translation-available-this-week/"><em>done</em></a> that. Instead, let's talk other things <em>Mother</em>, and by that, we mean crafts and similarly fun and frivolity. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/show-and-tell-earthbound-crafts/1109172/">Take the tour</a> of our picks, or just jump right into the gallery below.<br /><br />

From cases to bits of cutesy fluff, there's a lot that can be done with a crochet hook and a little yarn. This week, we're going to take a longer look at the magic behind some of our favorite Nintendo crafts. There are hundreds -- no, probably thousands -- of truly excellent DS <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/case">cases</a> floating around. No matter your taste, style, or brand of fandom, you can almost certainly find something that suits you. In fact, around here, we have time settling on just one case per DS. The sheer number of options can be overwhelming.<br /><br />On the flip side, you can make a DS case out of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/12/show-and-tell-dont-throw-that-game-boy-away/">just</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/02/we-never-thought-wed-see-a-hot-pink-duct-tape-case/">about</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/11/keep-you-ds-clean-while-you-eat-dinner/">anything</a>. You can even stick it naked into your pocket or bag and depend on luck. Considering all this, here's our question today: how much money do you think you've spent on cases for your DS(es)? If you're one of the lucky ones who can answer "none" who isn't also carrying around a DS in a sock, then our kudos to you!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/26/ds-daily-encasement/">DS Daily: Encasement</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Sep 2008 09:00:00 EST. Maybe sometimes, you don't really want to flaunt your status as a gamer. Maybe you like to do so sometimes, or with certain groups of friends, or maybe you just like being mysterious. No matter your reasons, if you have any interest in keeping your true love at least a little hidden, then this week's Show and Tell should provide you with lots of ideas for keeping your hobbies close to your chest. Take the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/show-and-tell-subtlety/998927/">guided tour</a>, or, if you're feeling reckless, jump directly into the gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><br />

Geek crafts often start with things you can put on your own body, or on the "bodies" of the things you care about (like your DS!). From <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/16/wear-this-bob-omb-jewelry-at-a-safe-distance/">jewelry</a> to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/17/more-fan-created-phoenix-wright-ace-apparel/">clothes</a> to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/zombees-case-will-stay-in-your-head-in-your-head/">cases</a>, we've seen a lot of wearables in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/show-and-tell/">history of Show and Tell</a>, so for the second week in our new format, it only seemed sensible to revisit one of the most popular types of fan-made objects. If you need a <em>thing</em> to put on another <em>thing</em>, you've come to the right place! <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/show-and-tell-wearables/985004/">Take a tour of our latest finds</a>, or dip directly into the gallery below.<br /><br /><br /><br />

<div align="left"><br />Atlanta knitter Cassie (that'll be her boyfriend, Jason, pictured) is currently slaving away on what is likely to be <em>the greatest scarf of all time</em> -- a wool-based reproduction of the iconic World 1-1 from <em>Super Mario Bros</em>.<br /><br />Yep, you read that right -- every jump, bush, coin, Goomba, pipe (though not the sewer sections, understandably), item box, and cloud, accurately rendered in yarn. According to the determined Cassie, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/crochet-out-with-little-mac-and-mike-tyson/">scarf</a> is currently around one-third complete, and is already at ten feet, meaning the finished article will come in at around thirty feet in length. A scarf fit for giants! These particular cases are themed just fine, but it's nothing we've seen before. Etsy craftsperson filmfatale has gone for a generic "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/08/this-case-is-hungry-for-handhelds/">critters</a>" design. Someone might filch the idea and use critters in an upcoming game ... which would spawn a disturbing merchandising cycle. Coming soon from a developer near you -- Critters: The Case: The Game: The Case.<br /><br />Some materials used here are none other than recycled clothing (among other suitable fabrics). That's a pretty good idea. In fact, anyone with a leftover surplus of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gyakuten-kenji/748862/">puffy shirts</a> or parachute pants should probably get to work, because homemade cases are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/02/ya-rly-another-homemade-case/">all the rage</a>. Check out <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5971385">filmfatale's store</a> for more stock!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/cases-critterized/">Cases Critterized</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jul 2008 19:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Kudos to Flickr user Obajoo, who went and did what none of us are brave enough to do: despite having no previous experience, she added this classy design of two silhouetted birds to her Metallic Rose DS. Writing about the process on her <a href="http://www.thedomesticscientist.com/2008/07/16/custom-ds/">blog</a>, Obajoo makes it <em>sound</em> reasonably straightforward -- so much so that we're even beginning to <em>think about contemplating whether or not to maybe consider</em> customizing our DS. Hit up <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/obajoo/sets/900086/">Obajoo's Flickr</a> for more photos.<br /><br />

<div align="left"><br />It's official: not only is Wii Fanboy the web's leading resource for all things Wii, we're also the number one online source of <em>Zelda bedding</em>. This is the third <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/10/you-got-the-quilt-of-power/"><em>Zelda</em></a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/11/its-dangerous-to-go-alone-take-this-quilt/">quilt</a> we've featured on the site, and it also happens to be the cheapest so far -- a mere $135 will buy you this queen-sized duvet, as stitched from 2" squares of <strike>real Octorok skin</strike> cotton. For an extra $30, you can even have matching pillowcases: just make sure you pack it all away when any would-be lovers arrive in your room after a particularly successful first date.<br /><br />If you fancy spending $165 on some of the most awesome bedding in the universe, contact Etsy user <a href="http://www.etsy.com/profile.php?user_id=5219875">punzie</a> and show her the color of your money. Explore past the break for a close-up of the quilt.<br /><br />Read: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&amp;listing_id=13034011">The Quilt of Courage</a><br />Read: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=cat2_galley_5&amp;listing_id=13086606">The Pillows of Wisdom</a><br /></div>
