Several PS1 games have hit the Japanese PSN today. Six in total, actually. One of them was the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/18/metal-gear-solid-downloadable-hitting-japan-soon/">previously announced</a> <em>Metal Gear Solid</em>. It's a pretty diverse set of games, here's the full list:<br /><br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Atelier Elie</em></li>
    <li><em>Crash Bash </em>(aka<em> Crash Bandicoot Carnival</em>)</li>
    <li><em>Dezaemon Kids!</em></li>
    <li><em>Master of Monsters: Disciples of Gaia</em></li>
    <li><em>Metal Gear Solid</em></li>
    <li><em>Pro Mahjong Kiwame Plus II</em></li>
</ul>
<br />That makes: one tactical espionage thriller in <em>MGS</em>, one RPG in <em>Atelier Elie</em>, a strategy adventure in <em>Master of Monsters</em>, <em>Mahjong Plus II</em> speaks for itself, <em>Crash Bash</em> is a party game, and <em>Dezaemon Kids!</em> is some sort of art title for children. Pretty nice list; however, <em>MGS</em> is top dog this week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/six-ps1-games-hit-japanese-psn/">Six PS1 games hit Japanese PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Mar 2008 12:30:00 EST. Official Xbox Magazine has the scoop on the Fall Xbox 360 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dashboard-update">dashboard update</a>, and you better believe it's a doozy. UK-based CVG reports that the <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=175527">December 2 update</a> will allow 360 owners to download and play Microsoft-published Xbox 1 games on their 360s.<br />
<br />
Let's say that one more time: come December 2, you will be able to download full, original Xbox games to the Xbox 360. The initial list of available games includes <span class="text_article_body"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fable"><em>Fable</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/indigoprophecy"><em>Indigo Prophecy</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/crimsonskies"><em>Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/crashbandicoot"><em>Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout"><em>Burnout 3</em></a>, and, of course, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo"><em>Halo: Combat Evolved</em></a>. <br />
<br />
Games will cost approximately 1200 Microsoft Points, or </span>$15 USD. Microsoft plans on re-releasing as many Xbox 1 titles as possible through Marketplace. Look out, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/virtual-console">Virtual Console</a>.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> The CVG source has been removed, but <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=87475" target="_blank">Eurogamer</a> has posted a similar report, dating the update for December 4th.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/fall-xbox-360-dashboard-update-revealed-download-halo-december/">Fall Xbox 360 dashboard update revealed: download Halo December 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Nov 2007 05:55:00 EST. It's Sept. 25, and you can feel it in your bones. You've waited long enough: It's time to finish the fight. And you know what that means -- it's time to start practicing your spinning and fruit collection. Yes, time to finish the fight between Crash Bandicoot and Dr. Neo Cortex, at least until the 15th Crash Bandicoot game comes out. ... Why do you look so sad? Did you think we were talking about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo3">someone else</a>?<br /><br />No, the fight that needs finishing today is <em>Crash of the Titans</em> and you can get a sample now with a new demo on Xbox Live. Had we played any Crash games in the past five years, we'd be happy to tell you what's new in this version. As it stands, we can offer only a hearty "Good luck."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/crash-of-the-titans-demo-now-on-live/">Crash of the Titans demo now on Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Sep 2007 10:52:00 EST. <font color="red">Update</font>: x360a has the <a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/achievements.php?gameID=323">pictures</a> for the list in case you're interested.<br /><br />MyGamercard.net got <a href="http://news.mygamercard.net/2007/08/10/bandicoots-crash-into-mgc-leave-achievements/">their hands</a> on the Achievement list for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/CrashoftheTitans/">Crash of the Titans</a> </em>(which explains the slightly jumbled headline) today. The list seems to point at completing various tasks throughout the story, with some extra stuff thrown in for beating the game on the Hard difficulty and earning Gold Idols on all the levels on hard. Hopefully the Achievements will be retroactive so those who want to tackle those can get the other ones at the same time. There are also 5 secret Achievements which account for 75 Gamerscore. In total there are 47 Achievements for the standard 1000 Gamerscore.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/10/the-titans-of-achievements-crash/">The Titans of Achievements Crash [update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Aug 2007 15:45:00 EST. <br />We <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/15/playstation-1-games-on-their-way-to-the-eu-psn-store/">told you</a> it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/dates-for-upcoming-european-psn-releases-and-motorstorm-patch/">coming</a>, and today it all finally arrived. <em>Calling All Cars, </em>PS1 games and a little added bonus. Check out the list below for the full release info.<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/callingallcars"><em>Calling All Cars</em></a> (&pound;4.99)</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=rampage"><em>Rampage: World Tour</em></a><em> (&pound;1.99)</em></li>

So there you have it, not a trailer in sight. Yet, ironically, we kind of miss them. Where are the other two PS1 games, though? You know, the ones we actually want to buy. <span style="font-style: italic;">Syphon Filter</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Medievil.</span> Perhaps we'll see them arrive next week, along with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/superstardusthd"><span style="font-style: italic;">Super Stardust HD</span></a>.<br /><br />What do you make of this update? So <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/15/european-psn-releases-for-june-15th/">Sony did</a> and, seemingly, they will continue to do so for at least the next <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/dates-for-upcoming-european-psn-releases-and-motorstorm-patch/">two weeks</a>.<br /><br />So scared was Sony of the Ghost of PlayStation Future that they even planned to release a selection of PS1 games onto the European PSN Store, on the 22nd of June. Namely:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Crash Bandicoot</em></li>
    <li><em>Medievil</em></li>
    <li><em>Wipeout</em></li>
    <li><em>Jumping Flash</em></li>
    <li><em>Syphon Filter</em></li>
</ul>
With that, the Ghost of Playstation Future's work was done. Harmony would reign over the European continent. At least until July.<br /><br />The End.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/15/europe-finally-gets-ps1-downloads/">PSP Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/15/playstation-1-games-on-their-way-to-the-eu-psn-store/">PlayStation 1 games on their way to the EU PSN Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jun 2007 20:00:00 EST. After months-long delay, Europe is finally getting a chance to download and play <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/retroreview">PS1 classics</a> on their PSP and PS3 systems. Although there's no way to directly download games to the PSP yet, those fortunate enough to have both Sony machines will be able to access the following content next week, according to <a href="http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=437">Three Speech</a>:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Crash Bandicoot</li>
    <li>Wipeout</li>
    <li>Medievil</li>
    <li>Jumping Flash</li>
    <li>Syphon Filter</li>
</ul>
Of these titles, we recommend <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/12/psone-review-crash-bandicoot/"><em>Crash Bandicoot</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/10/psone-review-jumping-flash/"><em>Jumping Flash</em></a> the most. These games will be available in the European PS Store on 6/22.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/15/europe-finally-gets-ps1-downloads/">Europe finally gets PS1 downloads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jun 2007 19:00:00 EST. Set to be another reinvention of the series, this new game will be titled <em>Crash of the Titans</em>. The main new feature of the game has <em>Crash</em> hijacking the minds of enemies. He'll also have expanded combat moves, and the game will have multiplayer elements. Radical Entertainment is helming this series reboot, which may be good,since they have a history of making enjoyable licensed games (<em>Scarface</em>, <em>Hulk</em>). Maybe this <em>Crash</em> will be worth getting excited over. Any long time <em>Crash</em> fans looking forward to this entry?</p>

Remember when <em>Crash Bandicoot</em> used to be Sony's mascot for the PlayStation brand? Things have certainly changed over the course of three console generations. While we don't mourn the loss, it's interesting to point out that, like an angry ex-girlfriend, Sony's ex-mascot is avoiding Sony's latest console endeavor altogether. The newly announced <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&amp;STORY=/www/story/05-18-2007/0004591476&amp;EDATE="><em>Crash of the Titans</em></a> will have the trademark marsupial doing his thing on Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii ... with PLAYSTATION 3 suspiciously absent.<br /><br />Is this an intentional omission or is there something far more malicious? Regardless, we can't say we really care. Sorry Crash, but we think <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgs-07-new-ratchet-and-clank-gallery-proves-very-promising/"><em>Ratchet</em></a> is <em>so much</em> dreamier than you these days.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/19/crash-bandicoot-goes-long-way-from-home-avoids-ps3-entirely/">Crash Bandicoot goes long way from home - avoids PS3 entirely</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 May 2007 09:00:00 EST. Third time's the charm, maybe?<br /><br /><em>Crash of the Titans</em> brings the series to not only the DS, but the GBA and Wii. Screenshots of the Wii title indicate that the blue-jeaned marsupial will be thrown back into his natural, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/platformer">platforming</a>/adventure-gaming habitat, freeing him from the wacky genres that've watered down the franchise. Players will be able to unlock extra elements in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/">Wii version</a> with a DS copy of the game.<br /><br />We're much too cautious to let another Crash Bandicoot title get our hopes up, but we wish Radical Entertainment all the best with its development. Though the Spanish magazine that unveiled <em>Crash of the Titans</em> mentioned an October release, the game isn't guaranteed to arrive in the US at the same date. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=151497">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/crash-of-the-titans-headed-to-nintendo-systems/">'Crash' of the Titans headed to Nintendo systems</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Apr 2007 11:00:00 EST. If it is, we'll just have to settle for being wrong ... but we will say that this news seems to have come out of nowhere. We're not going to ask any awkward questions about Sony (that would be the big elephant in the room here), but instead, we'll just quietly raise an eyebrow and hope that this game brings a fun and frenetic experience to Nintendo systems. <br /><br />There's also a hint of DS-Wii functionality here, and even if Crash himself doesn't excite you, perhaps that will. According to a Spanish gaming magazine, <em>Crash of the Titans</em> will hit shelves in October, though we're guessing that's a European date.<br /><br />As usual, you can see the scan after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/18/crash-of-the-titans-headed-to-nintendo-systems/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Crash' of the Titans headed to Nintendo systems</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/18/crash-of-the-titans-headed-to-nintendo-systems/">'Crash' of the Titans headed to Nintendo systems</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Apr 2007 14:30:00 EST. As usual, all titles are priced at &yen;525 (US$4.30). Two of the games released yesterday have already been available in North America for some time -- namely, <em>Crash Bandicoot</em> and <em>Rally Cross</em> -- but the remaining four titles are exclusive to Japan. They are: <br />
<ul>
    <li><em>A.I.V. Evolution Global </em>(city railway management from Artdink)<br /></li>
    <li><em>Logic Mahjong </em>(a mahjong game by Nippon Ichi)<br /></li>
    <li><em>Spectral Force </em>(the first game in Idea Factory's strategy RPG series)<br /></li>
    <li><em>Vampire: Legend of the Bloodsuckers </em>(an isometric action-RPG by Artdink)</li>

They include:</p>
<ul>
    <li>A IV Evolution Global</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/12/psone-review-crash-bandicoot/">Crash Bandicoot</a></li>

    <li>Souryu: Logical Mahjong</li>
    <li>Spectral Force</li>
    <li>Vampir: Kyuuketsuki Densetsu</li>
</ul>
<p>As you can see, some of these games are already available for US PS3 owners. The other games, which include an RPG and strategy game offering, will most likely never make it to the States.</p>

Coupled with the second best-selling franchise <em>Pok&eacute;mon</em> (also a Nintendo property), the two series, which have sold a combined 348 million games worldwide, account for nearly 34% of the total sales of the top-twenty best-selling franchises; which include two additional Nintendo IPs ranked in the top ten, <span style="font-style: italic;">Donkey Kong</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Zelda</span>. So what's Nintendo's secret?<br /><br />Cross-culture appeal, spin-offs (e.g., racers, sports titles, puzzlers), brand saturation (e.g., apparel, card games, TV shows), and E-ratings all appear part of a profitable formula built for the long haul.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/10/nintendo-holds-key-to-franchise-longevity-profitability/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo holds key to franchise longevity, profitability</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/10/nintendo-holds-key-to-franchise-longevity-profitability/">Nintendo holds key to franchise longevity, profitability</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Jan 2007 18:23:00 EST. <strong>File Size:</strong> 467MB<br /><strong>Price:</strong> $5.99<br /><strong>Developed By:</strong> Naughty Dog<br /><strong>Published By:</strong> Sony Computer Entertainment of America<br /><strong>Original Release Date:</strong> September 3, 1996<br /><br /><strong>Short Review</strong><br /><strong>Recommended.</strong> Crash Bandicoot, in some ways, becomes a better game on the PSP than it was on the classic console back in the day. The graphics look sharp on the small screen, and the simplistic gameplay is ideal for gamers on the go. However, expect frustration due to a confusing and outdated save system and some touchy controls.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/12/psone-review-crash-bandicoot/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Retro Review: Crash Bandicoot</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/12/psone-review-crash-bandicoot/">Retro Review: Crash Bandicoot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Dec 2006 17:15:00 EST. Matt Casamassina of IGN reports that the Vivendi rep they spoke with pulled no punches, calling the Wii connection "rubbish." That doesn't mean it isn't possible, however. Vivendi claims to be looking at all consoles for their next box-busting foray, and Wii is, in fact, a console. We're pretty sure it is, at least.<br /><br />Can't say we're terribly surprised that this rumor has been Crash-bashed, though a good game using the Wiimote might inject a little new life into the struggling series.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/25/no-crash-bandicoot-after-all/">No Crash Bandicoot after all</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Jul 2006 14:13:00 EST.
