	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/report-cyanide-also-working-on-game-of-thrones-rpg/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/gameofthronesrpg.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 0px;" /></a></div>
Good news for fans of Westeros and its inhabitants -- not only does <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/new-game-of-thrones-genesis-screens-and-art-are-awfully-icy/">Cyanide have an RTS</a> based on George R.R. Martin's fantasy series coming out, but apparently the Paris-based developer is also <a href="http://www.cyanide-studio.com/games/agot/">working on an RPG</a> set in the world of the <em>Song of Ice and Fire</em>. French site FactorNews <a href="http://factornews.com/news-31130-Le_Trone_de_Fer_-_le_RPG_se_devoile_en_e.html">got a look at the game</a> in development, and it sounds like just the thing to get your dire wolf howling.<br />
<br />
The title is supposed to play out around the book's events rather than follow them, but still follows the conventions of seeing various points of view. Players will start out as a brother of the Night Watch up at the Wall, then move on to play as Alester Sarwyck, a Red Priest returning to the kingdom after being exiled for 15 years across the Narrow Sea. Gameplay is described as a mix of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-witcher"><em>The Witcher</em></a> and other pseudo-turn-based RPGs, with players choosing skills and directing traffic in the midst of real-time battle. Cyanide is aiming for a release on both PC and consoles.<br />
<br />
It all sounds awesome -- but <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/a-game-of-thrones-the-rpg"><em>A Game of Thrones: The RPG</em></a> (working title) isn't planned to see the light of day any time before Martin's <em>Dance with Dragons</em> hits bookstores. If Cyanide delivers everything it is promising in this preview, we'd be willing to pull a Jaime Lannister and <em>kill a king</em> just to get a copy of it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/report-cyanide-also-working-on-game-of-thrones-rpg/">Report: Cyanide also working on Game of Thrones RPG</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Mar 2011 21:40:00 EST. It's been half a year since Cyanide revealed early concept art for its adaptation of George R.R. Martin's <em>A Song of Ice and Fire</em> novels. Today, publisher Focus Home Interactive revealed the first pair of screenshots from the series first outing, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/a-game-of-thrones-genesis">A Game of Thrones: Genesis</a></em>, giving us a look at what the action therein will actually look like. Apparently, it's going to feature large, scary dragons. And villagers. And cottages which appear to enjoy being burned to the ground, signifying their approval with an olde-timey thumbs up placard. We think that's what's going on, there.<br />
<br />
The publisher also revealed a few scant details about the title -- namely, that it will be a real-time strategy affair, with multiplayer support for up to eight different combatants. Victory can be claimed through force, diplomacy or subterfuge -- though, we imagine we'll be leaning on a healthy diet of all three. <br />
<em><br />
Forplomafuge</em>.<br />

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blood-bowl"><em>Blood Bowl</em></a>, you'll remember, is the wacky little mash-up between fantasy and American football that's based on the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/games-workshop">Games Workshop</a> turn-based board game, taking place in the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_Fantasy_%28setting%29"><em>Warhammer</em> setting</a>. It's been tearing up the field since last year, but at the end of 2010, Cyanide and Focus Home Interactive are upping the ante with the newly announced Legendary Edition for the PC.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.bloodbowl-game.com/index.php?rub=news-info&amp;id=158">The Legendary Edition</a> will add 12 new races to the current eight, so Undead, Amazons, Ogres and others will all get to toss the boarskin around in new stadiums and tournaments. The game will also include a story mode in which players will assume the role of a freelance coach tasked with rising up through the ranks. Sounds like fun.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/03/blood-bowl-legendary-edition-coming-to-pc-in-2010/">Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition coming to PC in 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 Apr 2010 03:15:00 EST. If you're a fan of tabletop war games, you're probably hotly anticipating Cyanide's video game adaptation of Games Workshop's classic fantasy-football mash-up, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Blood%20Bowl">Blood Bowl</a></em>. You are also probably <em>pretty</em> old, and have a large, curly beard. Likely a gray or white beard, due to the aforementioned elderliness.<br /><br />We've got great news for these senescent war game enthusiasts -- in a <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/games-workshop-has-forgotten-ip-to-plunder">recent interview with Eurogamer</a>, Cyanide's Antoine Villepreux explained the developer would be glad to tend to Games Workshop's "forgotten IPs that we think deserve video game adaptations." If the words<em> <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inquisitor_(game)">Inquisitor</a> </em></em>and<em> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mighty_Empires"><em>Mighty Empires</em></a> </em>bring haste to your <em>old</em>, <em>old</em> heart, a table-to-TV adaptation of your favorite Games Workshop franchises might be within the realm of possibilities<em>.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/30/blood-bowl-dev-wants-to-work-on-games-workshops-forgotten-ips/">Blood Bowl dev wants to work on Games Workshop's 'forgotten IPs'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 03:30:00 EST. If you're a PS3-only gamer who happens to be a fan of vintage tabletop gaming, monsters, and football, then you are probably <em>acutely</em>, painfully aware of the lack of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/30/new-blood-bowl-trailer-pits-rats-against-lizards/"><em>Blood Bowl</em></a> video games in your future. Cyanide is making an Xbox 360 version -- why not use the same assets and codebase for the PS3 like so many others? What's the deal? Does it hate the PS3 or something?<br /><br />In an interview with Destructoid, the developer explained its apparent snub on the platform. "Cyanide is a small company," a representative said. "We have no previous experience on that platform [and] it would have been a bit risky and expensive for us. But, we are hoping to do a PS3 version if the game is selling well."<br /><br />So, rather than a lack of faith in the platform, Cyanide has somewhat of a lack of faith in its own ability to <em>develop</em> for it without killing the budget. It still means no PS3 version for now, but it <em>also</em> means no janky, poorly ported PS3 version for now. That's ... <em>something. </em>And if the other versions of the game, coming out in Q2 of this year, are successful, we may see a (good) PS3 version yet.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2009/02/08/blood-bowl-ps3-dev-too-risky-says-cyanide/">VG247</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/09/blood-bowl-developer-making-ps3-version-a-bit-risky-and-expens/">Blood Bowl developer: making PS3 version 'a bit risky and expensive'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Feb 2009 09:00:00 EST. Despite the fact that it isn't wholly original (it was <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_Bowl_(2008_video_game)">a board game</a> after all) it is of a genre that the 360 in general hasn't seen a whole lot of and plus, orcs make just about everything better.<br /><br />Being a bit more serious though, the trailer really doesn't show much; but how much is there really to show off in a turn-based strategy game? True, the game does have a real-time option, but we already have <em>Madden</em> for that and it just seems to be a betrayal of the game's roots. And just like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers/">certain other</a> highly anticipated games, we're still waiting on a firm release date. <br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/blood-bowl-teaser-trailer/">Blood Bowl Teaser Trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Jun 2008 01:30:00 EST. Tabletop gamers are no strangers to the game <em>Blood Bowl</em>, which we mentioned <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/cyanide-confirms-blood-bowl-for-xbox-360-psp-ds/">back in November</a>. The game has spanned 22 years, multiple editions and several expansion sets. The basic concept is "fantasy" football, literally. As in orcs, trolls, elves and the like playing an organized team sport where they try to tear their opponents' heads off. Check out the newly released, <span style="font-style: italic;">Warcraft</span>-tastic trailer after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/blood-bowl-trailer-channels-madden-warcraft/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Blood Bowl trailer channels Madden + Warcraft</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/blood-bowl-trailer-channels-madden-warcraft/">Blood Bowl trailer channels Madden + Warcraft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Jun 2008 23:15:00 EST. This version, announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/cyanide-confirms-blood-bowl-for-xbox-360-psp-ds/">last November</a> for 360, PC, DS, and PSP, is being made by developer Cyanide and currently has no release date beyond Q2 2008. The thing about <a href="http://www.strategyinformer.com/xbox360/bloodbowl/screenshots.html">this news</a> is that the game's distribution medium has not yet been announced. With the game seeing release on the handhelds, one can't see this title being very in-depth. But if the game is not very deep, one can't see it being a full release either. Will this end up being an XBLA title, or will it end up be closer to another recent release that had the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/07/namco-invites-you-to-pwn-them-at-culdcept-saga/">graphical prowess of an XBLA game</a>? The only obstacle to Arcade release we can see would be the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/capcom-having-issues-with-ssf2thdrs-file-size/">file size</a>. Anyway if it's an XBLA game thats great, we could always use more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/11/commanders-attack-of-genos-screens-aplenty/">turn based strategy</a> on there. Plus, the game has a real-time mode as well in case turn-based combat isn't really your thing.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/a-host-of-blood-bowl-screens/">A host of Blood Bowl screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Feb 2008 15:15:00 EST. No, in fact it's a <em>video game</em>. Imagine that? Arriving courtesy of French developer Cyanide, <em>Blood Bowl </em>is a title based on the Games Workshop fantasy tabletop game of the same name. Cyanide assures us that the game will be a "faithful representation" of the tabletop experience, so fans should find their title intact on the DS, barring any unforeseen circumstances.<br /><br />If you want to check out some of the many versions of the tabletop game, hit up <a href="http://www.boardgamegeek.com/metasearch.php?searchtype=game&amp;search=blood+bowl&amp;B1=Go">this link here</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/cyanide-confirms-blood-bowl-for-xbox-360-psp-ds/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/15/blood-bowl-isnt-just-a-vampires-breakfast/">Blood Bowl isn't just a vampire's breakfast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Nov 2007 14:50:00 EST. The studio also announced today that it has waded waist-deep into the murky waters of middleware development, creating its own "dynamic 3D animation engine," which Cyanide interestingly describes as a tool that "integrates physical and biomechanical laws under the control of a powerful artificial intelligence system." Skynet, can you hear us?<br /><br />While the company hopes to license the engine to other "small and medium sized" game developers, Cyanide is not above eating its own dog food, and will utilize the technology in its own projects, the first of which will be a title based on Games Workshop's fantasy tabletop game <em>Blood Bowl</em>. First announced briefly last year, the real news here is that the game, which is an unofficial follow up to the unlicensed PC title <em>Chaos League</em>, has been confirmed as in development for the Xbox 360, PSP, and Nintendo DS, as well as the PC. Few details are known at present beyond that the studio calls the project a "faithful representation" of the tabletop game, and adds that <em>Blood Bowl</em> should be released sometime in late 2008. In the absence of a new <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutant_League_Football"><em>Mutant League Football</em></a>, we will take what we can get.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/cyanide-confirms-blood-bowl-for-xbox-360-psp-ds/">Cyanide confirms Blood Bowl for Xbox 360, PSP, DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Nov 2007 16:27:00 EST. Okay, so for the most part <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/02/runaway-2-wont-scare-you-off/">Runaway 2</a> </em>looks great. The art in the backgrounds is beautiful, and we're genetically unable to hate on a new adventure game. We're <em>total jerks</em>, however, and had to point and laugh at this screenshot, because, despite the high quality of the rest of the game's art, the character models tend to look like cel-shaded <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poser">Poser</a> models with caveman faces. It's totally unfair and mean for us to draw attention to that!<br /><br />To make up for it, we'll point out that <em>Runaway 2</em> has what might be the prettiest inventory screen we've seen on the DS. The color in the background image is <em>wonderful.</em> Hooray for occasionally great art design!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/07/runaway-2-screens-stare-back-into-you/">Runaway 2 screens stare back into you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Nov 2007 14:50:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/ds-daily-we-want-an-adventure/"> What was that</a> about adventure games? Asked and answered, it would seem. Focus Home Interactive is bringing the DS version of the adventure game <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/16/runaway-2-coming-to-ds-in-surprisingly-complete-form/">Runaway: Dream of the Turtle</a> </em>to the U.S.<br /><br />The game follows Brian and Gina, a couple who just survived a bunch of crazy stuff (in the first <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runaway:_A_Road_Adventure"><em>Runaway</em></a>, obviously), as their vacation turns into-- what else-- an <em>adventure. </em>Apparently the story picks up soon after the first game and ends in a cliffhanger that resolves in the as-yet-unreleased third game. We're getting ... the middle.<br /><br /><em>Runaway 2</em> on the PC earned some <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/runaway2thedreamoftheturtle?q=runaway">wildly mixed reviews</a>, ranging from a score of <a href="http://www.justadventure.com/reviews/Runaway2/Runaway2.shtm">100</a> all the way down to <a href="http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/runaway/781347p1.html">40</a>. So it's either great or terrible, or somewhere in between.<br /><br />[Update: Screens can be found <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=27923">here</a>.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/runaway-2-finds-an-american-home/">Runaway 2 finds an American home [update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Oct 2007 09:50:00 EST. Yes. From the <a href="http://www.focus-home.com/news.php?lang=en&amp;article=453">press release</a>:<br /><br />"The PSP[TM] version is being specifically designed to take advantage of the features of Sony's(R) PlayStation Portable handheld system. The real-time simulation aspect of the game is enhanced and the game sets a faster pace than its PC brother. With careers lasting up to five seasons, unique gameplay modes which include time trials, sprints and optimized race lengths, <em>Pro Cycling/Tour de France 2007</em> on PSP is a lean, mean portable dream. Players and cycling fans will love the 20 official teams and their star cyclists, and will experience the most thrilling Tour de France ever, available for the first time on PSP!"<br /><br />While I can't personally say I'm excited, it certainly does provide something different for PSP players.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/28/pro-cycling-manager-gives-gamers-something-different/">Pro Cycling Manager gives gamers "something different"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 28 Apr 2007 14:30:00 EST.
