If all the talk of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/halo-combat-evolved-anniversary"><em>Halo Anniversary</em></a> has put you in the mood for more modern fare, the <em>Reach</em> map packs are down to five bucks each this week. Alternately, if the release of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-2-off-the-record"><em>Dead Rising 2: Off the Record</em></a> gave you a hankerin' for <em>Dead Rising 2</em> spinoffs, you'll find those half off next week, starting October 25. <em>Dead Rising</em> the first will also be On Demand for 25% off.<br />
<br />
There's currently a "Shocktober" sale happening, including <em>Castlevania Harmony of Despair</em> for 600 Points ($7.50), and <em>Alan Wake</em> On Demand for <em>just</em> $10 <strong>more</strong> than retail. What a deal.<br />
<br />
Racing fans can get a rolling staaaaaaaaaaaaaaart on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/12/daytona-usa-coming-to-psn-xbla-in-late-october/"><em>Daytona USA</em></a> on October 26, and check out the<em> <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/toy-soldiers-cold-war">Toy Soldiers: Cold War</a></em> "Napalm Pack" and <em>A World of Keflings</em> DLC on the same day. And in Avatar accessory news, it's finally happening on October 20.<br />

	As if all the weird stuff <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/21/dead-rising-2-off-the-record-trailer-introduces-the-electric-cr/">we already knew about</a> in <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-2-off-the-record"><em>Dead Rising 2: Off the Record</em></a> wasn't enough, Capcom has even more to reveal at PAX this weekend. The company is showing off the game's Sandbox mode, which will let players run around Fortune City and cause as much mayhem as wanted "without having to worry about the clock."<br />
	<br />
	The mode also offers a series of challenges in each of the game's environments (ranging from simple collection to killing zombies or driving around in vehicles) that will offer up cash as a reward. We've got a couple of Joystiq folks on the show floor at PAX, so stay tuned for a hands-on report about the mode itself.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/27/dead-rising-2-off-the-record-showing-off-sandbox-mode-at-pax/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Rising 2: Off the Record showing off Sandbox Mode at PAX</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/27/dead-rising-2-off-the-record-showing-off-sandbox-mode-at-pax/">Dead Rising 2: Off the Record showing off Sandbox Mode at PAX</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 27 Aug 2011 04:30:00 EST. In one anecdote, former Capcom exec Keiji Inafune illustrates how he got so high up in the company <em>and</em> the kind of behavior that likely led to his hasty exit. During a presentation at Kyoto's Ritsumeikan University, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/26/keiji-inafune-is-shooting-lasers-out-of-his-face-in-an-rpg/"><em>Neptunia Mk-II</em> weapon</a> dished on the corporate culture at Capcom, and how he gamed it to get <em>Lost Planet</em> and <em>Dead Rising</em> made.<br />
<br />
Before those games, he said, Capcom had a rule requiring 70-80 percent of the games produced at the company to be sequels, and the management rejected pitches for new titles even beyond that proportion. Inafune started up two new projects, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lost-planet"><em>Lost Planet</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising</em></a>, and just kept them going even after the prototypes were rejected.<br />
<br />
Eventually, he exceeded the budget for <em>Lost Planet's</em> prototype by 400%, figuring that Capcom wouldn't cancel it if the game was half done. The strategy worked: both titles made it to retail, and started franchises that have sold over <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/salesdata.html">four million units each</a>.<br />
<br />
Inafune was already well known for a successful act of guerrilla game-making. After <em>Mega Man</em>, his team was <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=1&amp;cId=3159319">famously</a> only allowed to develop <em>Mega Man 2</em> if they did so on their own time, without affecting the schedules of other projects.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/09/inafune-on-defeating-capcoms-sequel-heavy-budgeting/">Inafune on defeating Capcom's sequel-heavy budgeting</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 May 2011 19:05:00 EST. Capcom is offering its newly-launched <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-mobile">Dead Rising Mobile</a>, </em>a portable adaptation of the original <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising</em></a>, at a special introductory price of $4.99. Herein lies the rub, though: it's only compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and third-generation or newer iPod Touch right now. The first update will include iPad support, but Capcom's being mum on when that'll be available. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-rising-mobile/">Dead Rising Mobile</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-rising-mobile/#3663070"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/mzl.eyuocrkh.320x480-75_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-rising-mobile/#3663071"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/mzl.idvmcoba.320x480-75_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-rising-mobile/#3663072"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/mzl.kzmmzngw.320x480-75_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-rising-mobile/#3663073"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/mzl.nixykepz.320x480-75_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-rising-mobile/#3663074"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/mzl.rmjudvlm.320x480-75_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/10/dead-rising-mobile-rises-but-not-on-ipad/">Dead Rising Mobile rises, but not on iPad</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Dec 2010 03:00:00 EST. Capcom announced this morning that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-2">Dead Rising 2</a> </em>has shipped over two million units globally, making it more successful than the original zombie survival sandbox. The company also stated that the <em>Dead Rising</em> franchise has shipped over four million units globally. That math likely entails the couple million copies from the sequel, the "million-plus" from the original <em>Dead Rising</em>, and ... oh boy, whatever <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-chop-til-you-drop"><em>Dead Rising: Chop Till you Drop</em></a> shipped. It's unclear if Capcom's "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/24/capcom-calls-dead-rising-case-zero-most-dynamic-sales-weapon/">most dynamic sales weapon</a>" ever, <em>Dead Rising 2: Case Zero</em>, would be included in there -- considering it didn't "ship" so much as "sell" half a million units on Xbox Live Arcade.<br />
<br />
The publisher also announced that its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/15/blue-castle-games-acquired-by-capcom/">acquisition of Blue Castle Games</a> was approved by Canadian authorities. The studio will now be known as Capcom Game Studio Vancouver. Will CGSV be entrusted with other Capcom franchises, or will it remain in the company of the living dead?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/28/dead-rising-2-ships-2-million-blue-castle-games-renamed/">Dead Rising 2 ships 2 million, Blue Castle Games renamed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Oct 2010 10:10:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/20/amazon-lightning-deals-strike-games-today-super-street-fighter/">$25 <em>Super Street Fighter IV</em></a> offer from last week is back, for PS3. <br />
Should you decide to purchase <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/06/review-lost-planet-2/">Lost Planet 2</a> </em>for some reason, Amazon isn't judging. The retailer is offering that game on both PS3 and Xbox 360 for $20. In a recent post on Capcom's viral site for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-2">Dead Rising 2</a></em>, fictitious Fortune City denizen "Johnny Pipes" tells the tale of his search for sweets amid the zombie horde and a Chuck Greene spotting along the way. When Pipes started snapping pics of Greene with his camera phone, though, Greene took off. Never one to shy away from danger, Pipes pursued Greene and evidently noticed another gentleman (of the non-zombie variety) at his side: Is that Frank West?<br />
<br />
Outside of the tale and a very, <em>very</em> blurry shot of the duo fighting zombies side by side (seen above), the <a href="http://tapeitordie.com/blog/when-zombie-killing-woahs-turn-camera-woes-see-what-i-did-there">Tape It or Die post</a> doesn't give out hard details on whether we can expect to see the first game's star in <em>DR2</em> -- perhaps as an additional player in the game's co-op mode? We can't be sure just yet, but Pipes' story indicates that West's camera could also make a return. Sure, he's shot wars before, but has West shot Chuck Greene plowing through a crowd of the undead with chainsaws attached to a wheelchair? Yeah, <em>didn't think so</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/13/frank-west-teased-in-dead-rising-2-viral-blog/">Frank West teased in Dead Rising 2 viral blog</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Sep 2010 11:00:00 EST. "The goal for <em>Dead Rising 2</em> is to replace the <em>Resident Evil</em> franchise and become the number one IP within Capcom," Keiji Inafune told <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-09-03-capcoms-keiji-inafune-interview">Eurogamer</a>. It's a lofty claim -- according to Capcom's <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html">own data</a>, <em>Street Fighter</em> is the company's top franchise. Still, taking down the <em>Resident Evil</em> franchise first is no easy task. Unlike Capcom's other properties, the company's original survival-horror game has the mainstream appeal to support three successful Hollywood adaptations (with a fourth one opening this week). The last iteration of the series sold over 5 million copies. <em>Dead Rising</em>, on the other hand, sold 1.6 million.<br />
<br />
<em>Dead Rising</em> has big shoes to fill, but it's that lofty ambition that pushes good game design, Inafune argues. "Unless you have a big goal to strive for, you can't create a good game. Therefore, if the <em>Dead Rising</em> franchise takes over the <em>Resident Evil</em> franchise, a new game I come up with will obviously strive to go over <em> Dead Rising</em>. That's the goal I set out for any title I decide to create."<br />
<br />
If <em>Dead Rising 2</em> becomes the success Inafune wants it to be, we wonder what the next big idea from Capcom will be. Another IP with <em>even more</em> zombies?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/07/dead-rising-2s-keiji-inafune-and-his-desire-to-replace-the-res/">Dead Rising 2's Keiji Inafune and his desire to 'replace the Resident Evil franchise'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Sep 2010 09:05:00 EST. <br />
The "High Stakes Edition," available only from Capcom's <a href="http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/html/pbPage.dead-rising-2/ThemeID.21205600/?resid=fWH1HAoBAlgAAAh65k8AAAAf&amp;rests=1282930727866">online store</a>, includes the game; a poker set with 100 poker chips, bloody playing cards, dice, and a dealer chip; a Fortune City visitor map (which doubles, conveniently, as a map of the game's locations); and a <em>Terror is Reality</em> ticket with a voucher for a "Psycho" costume and skill pack.<br />
<br />
One of the $90 bundles will include a golden <em>Terror is Reality</em> ticket, which will entitle the lucky winner to a six-foot "Burt the Zombie" replica. That's right, you pay $90 for the chance at winning a big prize (well, among other things). That's <em>gamblin</em>'. Kind of. We'd argue that the real winner is anyone not burdened with a giant zombie statue.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/27/dead-rising-2-high-stakes-edition-is-a-gamble/">Dead Rising 2 High Stakes Edition is a gamble</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Aug 2010 14:00:00 EST. The <em>Dead Rising 2</em> Zombrex Edition, available on both PS3 and Xbox 360, includes a syringe of life-saving Zombrex medicine (which looks suspiciously like a pen), along with a Zombrex safety information card, sales brochure, and 25-page prescription pad.<br />
<br />
The steelbook case also includes materials not related to fictional anti-undeadifying pharmaceuticals, including a <em>Dead Rising 2</em> artbook, and a disc with a "Making of" featurette. The Xbox 360 version will also include the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/15/get-a-weekly-dose-of-zombrex-starting-august-4/"><em>Zombrex Dead Rising Sun</em></a> film, while the PS3 version will include a voucher for a dynamic theme. The Zombrex Edition will be released on the same September 28 date as the regular version, and will retail for $79.99 -- isn't it worth the extra $20 to have the peace of mind that only anti-zombie medication can provide?<br />

Each week, two or three chunks of the short film will debut on Xbox. They'll be made available on <a href="http://deadrisingsun.com/">DeadRisingSun.com</a> a week later, with the exception of two episodes that will be shown on both places simultaneously. <br />
<br />
We've listed the schedule after the break, because it's a lot easier to explain it that way. Bottom line: your entire August is now booked up with extremely brief movie dates. Capcom will release the film online serially, chopped up into eight pieces like a particularly unlucky zombie, including an English dubbed version, as well as releases with Italian, French and Spanish subtitles. Oh, and it'll be <em>free</em>.<br />
<br />
<em>Zombrex Dead Rising Sun</em> (good thing it's free with a title like that) is the story of two brothers trying to survive against hordes of zombies. How will they possibly make it? A wheelchair with a chainsaw attached is a pretty good start. Check out our gallery below for some behind-the-scenes photos and enjoy the trailer after the break.<br />

Capcom's Global Head of Production, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/keiji-inafune">Keiji Inafune</a>, who started with the company over 20 years ago as an illustrator, oversees production of the publisher's major franchises, including <em>Resident Evil, Lost Planet, Street Fighter </em>and <em>Dead Rising</em>. We talked to Inafune at E3 about the design decisions and criticisms of the Dead Rising series, as well as Capcom's ongoing attempt to balance east and west game design philosophies. Capcom is doing something pretty interesting with the release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-2"><em>Dead Rising 2</em></a>. Prior to its August 31 launch, Capcom will put out <em>Dead Rising 2: Case Zero</em>, an Xbox Live exclusive prequel sans <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/20/dead-rising-2-to-have-online-co-op-and-a-drug-called-zombrex/">co-op</a> that takes place two years after the original and three years prior to the second game. In short: it's distilled <em>Dead Rising 2</em> on a much smaller scale.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/preview-dead-rising-2-case-zero-xbla/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Preview: Dead Rising 2: Case Zero (XBLA)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/preview-dead-rising-2-case-zero-xbla/">Preview: Dead Rising 2: Case Zero (XBLA)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jun 2010 20:09:00 EST. Capcom and Playboy have reached an agreement wherein <em>Playboy</em> magazines and imagery will be seen throughout the world of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-2">Dead Rising 2</a></em>, in the form of magazines, as well as billboards and other advertisements. Judging by the costume in one of the new screens, Fortune City is host to a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playboy_Club">Playboy Club</a> as well.<br />
<br />
<em>Playboy</em> is just one of the publications used for the game's new "magazine system," which, like <em>Dead Rising's</em> book system, will offer enhancements to the player's stats. <em>Playboy</em> imbues Chuck Greene with a "unique and special upgrade" -- good that it has an actual gameplay purpose, because on its own, stopping to check out some babes while on the run from thousands of undead monsters is highly questionable, both in terms of tactics and just plain sanity.<br />

It was a tough blow to hear that Frank West wouldn't star in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-2">Dead Rising 2</a>. </em>All was not lost, however: Frank not only cut his teeth fighting less undead opponents in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tatsunoko-vs-capcom"><em>Tatsunoko vs Capcom</em></a>, but there's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/20/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds-ps3-xbox-360-spring-2011/">some evidence</a> he'll be in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 3</em></a> -- and let's not forget his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/15/lost-planet-2-getting-guest-characters-from-dead-rising-monster/">cameo</a> in <em>Lost Planet 2</em>.<br />
<br />
According to Capcom's Seth Killian, Frank West is pretty damn popular in these parts, something of which Capcom of Japan is aware. He told <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/capcom-loves-frank-west-wants-him-in-everything-172114.phtml">Destructoid</a> that not only is Capcom of Japan "convinced" that your everyday American loves the <em>Dead Rising </em>protagonist, but that he'll "be making appearances in as many games as they can get him into."<br />
<br />

</a></div>
<em>Left 4 Dead</em>'s eerie atmosphere was made exponentially more engrossing by the warnings scrawled on the walls of each safe house by other survivors. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2"><em>Left 4 Dead 2</em>'s</a> downloadable chapter "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-passing">The Passing</a>," released earlier today, features the above note, apparently written by another down-on-his-luck Zombocalypse veteran. Located by the sharp-eyed bloggers of <a href="http://destroyedcontroller.blogspot.com/2010/04/frank-wests-left-4-dead-2-cameo.html">Destroyed Controller</a>, It reads: "Otis, Out of film, no helicopter. Zombies are too fast. Not going to make it. - Frank West."<br />
<br />
It's a real shame that West's had to suffer such misfortune. We doubt he'd be in such an unfavorable position if he possessed the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/11/dead-rising-2-singleplayer-hands-on-two-chainsaws-one-paddle/">ingenuity of his spiritual successor</a>.<br />

Back during X10, Capcom revealed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/12/x10-dead-rising-2-case-zero-prologue-is-stand-alone-will-be/"><em>Dead Rising 2: Case Zero</em></a>, the stand-alone prologue exclusive to Xbox Live Marketplace that will bridge the gap between the first and second game. It will introduce the sequel's protagonist, Chuck Greene, father and master of duct taping stuff, as he works to free himself and his daughter from the desert town of Still Creek -- two years after the events of the first game, but three years before the events of the sequel.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/63398">Shacknews</a> managed to secure the details while at Captivate in Hawaii, and says Capcom promises <em>Case Zero </em>will have "unique content not available in the full retail release of <em>Dead Rising 2</em>." Sadly, there's no mention of price or release date for <em>Case Zero</em>, but rest assured: You still have plenty of time to stock up on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/20/dead-rising-2-to-have-online-co-op-and-a-drug-called-zombrex/">Zombrex</a> before <em>Dead Rising 2</em> launches on August 31.<br />

Chuck Greene may know his "way around a zombie or two," as he says in this new trailer from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-2"><em>Dead Rising 2</em></a>, but he'll be facing down thousands at a time in Fortune City. Greene's daughter Katey will also be along for the ride -- she's bitten by one of the walking dead early on, and will require a daily dose of a drug called "Zombrex" during the game's 72-hour span "to stop [her] from joining the ever-growing zombie horde." Greene also comes across two supporting ladies -- one is a short-haired army jacket-wearing girl who goes on about conspiracies and "false accusations," and the other is a bombastic reporter who brings new meaning to the word "teaser."<br />
<br />
<a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/capcom">Capcom</a> has also announced details of the game's online co-op system. Players will be able to use an "in-game transceiver to call for assistance at any time," and when your buddy shows up, it's game on for tactics like luring zombies into a kill zone or racing around on skateboards (no really -- check the gallery below). That's in addition to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/25/tgs-2009-hands-on-dead-rising-2s-terror-is-reality/">the "Terror is Reality" minigame versus mode</a> that we got to play a little while ago, which will pit up to four players against each other in a game show setting. <br />
<em><br />
Dead Rising 2</em> will be out for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in North America on August 31, and in Japan and Europe a few short, zombie-free days later.<br />

A handful of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-planet-2"><em>Lost Planet 2</em></a> screenshots from <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/image/7936/LbqQDN718f1bz1G9TDvFNE95XcG43fr2.html">Famitsu</a> have revealed the game will borrow the stars of two more franchises: <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/image/7936/Gc2NE5NT8XJTi92ez51822BSOpLkMaz1.html">Frank West</a> from <em>Dead Rising</em> and the <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/image/7936/LbqQDN718f1bz1G9TDvFNE95XcG43fr2.html">Scaly Knife-Gun Dude</a> from <em>Monster Hunter</em>, the latter being exclusive to the PS3 version of the game. For those of you keeping track, these two join <em>Gears of War</em>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/26/lost-planet-2-adds-gears-of-wars-marcus-and-dom/">Marcus and Dom</a> (who will only appear in the 360 version), <em>Resident Evil</em>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/25/lost-planet-2-wesker-no-longer-gamestop-exclusive/">Wesker</a>, and What's His Face from <em>Lost Planet 2</em> in the fight against the calamitous, towering Akrid.<br />
<br />
Though most of these crossovers seem pretty out of place, we're betting the dude from <em>Monster Hunter</em> will be right at home bringing down monsters the size of football stadiums. That kind of thing is <em>right</em> in his wheelhouse.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/15/lost-planet-2-getting-guest-characters-from-dead-rising-monster/">Lost Planet 2 getting guest characters from Dead Rising, Monster Hunter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Apr 2010 16:45:00 EST. He told <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=242455">CVG</a> that Capcom "wanted to do it better for a Western audience this time," saying that <em>Dead Rising</em> "was built in a very Japanese style."<br />
<br />
Too Japanese, in fact, according to Ohara. Now, with the help of Blue Castle, Capcom is creating something that is "much closer to feeling like a Western game," in a collaborative process that is resulting in "crazier" ideas than before. Clearing up some confusion over how exactly gamers will get a hold of the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-2">Dead Rising 2</a> </em>prologue, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/11/dead-rising-2-case-zero-prologue-launching-exclusively-on-xbo/">Case Zero</a></em>, announced at yesterday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/x10">X10</a> event, developer Blue Castle Games explained to Joystiq that the term "add-on" used by Microsoft was, well, <em>dead </em><em>wrong</em>. "It's not an add-on, because it's set before [<em>Dead Rising 2</em>] and you won't need [either] retail game in order to play it," the devs told us. As for pricing, they could only say that, "it won't be free, but we'll make it accessible for a lot of players."<br />
<br />
When we asked about a possible <em>Dead Rising 2 </em>demo -- whether it be single- or multiplayer -- they replied, "We think the prologue is going to give gamers a good sense of how the game is going to play. We haven't announced a release date for it yet, but it's definitely before the retail game." They added, "It's not like it's a chunk of the main game -- it is unique content, so even if you want to look at it as a 'demo,' it's not. It's a unique experience."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/12/x10-dead-rising-2-case-zero-prologue-is-stand-alone-will-be/">X10: Dead Rising 2 'Case Zero' prologue is standalone, will be game's 'demo'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Feb 2010 15:10:00 EST. Though most may require little more than a premise involving zombies, a besieged casino and a chainsaw-wielding motorcycle to get hooked on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-2"><em>Dead Rising 2</em></a>'s ultra-violent charms, perhaps you demand greater narrative fortitude from your gaming pleasures. Perhaps you're a <em>thespian</em>, desperately seeking an answer for untold undead anarchy. <em>What is my motivation?</em> you wonder as you route another rigor-mortis special.<br />
<br />
Well, you'll have to turn to <em>Dead Rising 2: Case Zero</em>, a "game add-on" launching exclusively on Xbox Live shortly before the full game's release on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/11/dead-rising-2-in-us-aug-31-shambles-to-japan-and-europe-l/">August 31</a>. Case Zero will serve as a prologue to <em>Dead Rising 2</em>, introducing new protagonist Chuck Greene (who has <em>not</em> covered wars as far as we know) and elaborating on the events that followed the first game. <br />
<br />
Pricing and exact release details have yet to be announced. It's also currently unclear how the add-on will work prior to the launch of the full game -- it may be packaged as a separate downloadable game (a la <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2010/02/11/dead_rising_2_ships_this_summer_with_a_pre-launch_prologue"><em>Halo Waypoint</em></a>) that can interact with <em>Dead Rising 2</em> ... and explain whence all those zombies came.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/11/dead-rising-2-case-zero-prologue-launching-exclusively-on-xbo/">X10: 'Dead Rising 2: Case Zero' prologue launching exclusively on Xbox Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Feb 2010 17:12:00 EST. Just in time for Valentine's Day, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=br_lf_m_1000480581_pglink_prev?ie=UTF8&amp;plgroup=1&amp;docId=1000480581&amp;plpage=1">Amazon</a> is now offering a special buy two, get one free deal on Xbox 360 Platinum Hits titles. The deal is fairly straightforward: just pop three Platinum Hits games into your cart and the cheapest of the three will be knocked down to the wallet-friendly price of <em>zero dollars</em>. It's really the perfect excuse to pick up some great games you might have missed, especially considering many of them have sequels out this year -- notably <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/fable-3"><em>Fable II</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/halo-reach"><em>Halo 3</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/fallout-new-vegas"><em>Fallout 3</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/mass-effect-2"><em>Mass Effect</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/bioshock-2"><em>BioShock</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-2"><em>Dead Rising</em></a>. You'd better do it quick though, as the offer is only valid through February 13 and only while supplies last.<br />

It isn't like us to dedicate an entire post to a single screenshot, but when it comes to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Dead-Rising-2/"><em>Dead Rising 2</em></a> we've already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/23/tgs-2009-dead-rising-2-in-one-awesome-screen/">set a precedent</a>. Earlier today, Capcom's Unity blog posted a handful of new images from the zombie-killing simulator, but the screen that really captured our attention was the one shown (gloriously) above.<br />
<br />
Combining vastly different items to create our own completely insane arsenal against the zombie collective? Imagine the possibilities: Like some kind of cutting <em>thing</em>, attached to something that spins or <em>something</em>! Clearly our intense excitement has damaged the part of our brain that controls our creativity, but you get the point. Things are going to get killed, real good. More screens are available on the <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2010/01/26/dead_rising_2_new_screenshots_show_off_weapon_creation">Capcom Unity blog</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/26/dead-rising-2-screens-show-off-new-weapon-creation-system/">Dead Rising 2 screens show off new weapon creation system</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jan 2010 20:00:00 EST. Just as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/xbox-live-deals-xbla-releases-and-games-on-demand-for-january/">expected</a>, today marks the release of two new Games on Demand titles: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-wars"><em>Halo Wars</em></a>. Major Nelson <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/01/26/games-on-demand-halo-wars-and-dead-rising.aspx">reports</a> each is currently available for download on your Xbox 360, with Capcom's virtual mall full of zombies setting gamers back a paltry $20, while Ensemble Studios' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/halo-wars-includes-final-farewell-from-ensemble-studios/">final game</a> is a bit more costly at $30. Each will take up six gigglebytes of room on your HDD upon download.<br />

Though we still don't have a release date for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-2"><em>Dead Rising 2</em></a>, we have gotten first word of a<em> </em>film (<span><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/keiji-inafune">Keiji Inafune</a>'s directorial debut) based on the series. The title directly translates to </span><span>"Death Disease Contamination Dead Rising," which we think you'll agree is a <em>pretty</em> great name for a movie. Bonus: With only its first trailer, this thing is already making us confused and a little headachey.<br />
<br />
As near as we can tell, it's a movie about four Asian people fighting zombies</span> in a warehouse with both conventional armaments and a weaponized wheelchair. Oh and some parts are in first person. ... We know, right? This old chestnut again?! If you can stand the tedium, the trailer's right after the break. [<strong>Update: </strong>Also from Andriasang: The film will apparently be coming to the web (as you may have guessed from the productions values) this year, though 360 owners will be able to watch it early.]<br />

Major Nelson recently peeled away the veil separating us from the knowledge of <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/01/12/xbox-live-marketplace-release-schedule.aspx">when stuff would be coming</a> out on Xbox Live Marketplace over what remains of the month of January. This new knowledge includes the upcoming Deals of the Week -- on January 18, both of the DLC packs for the original <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mass-effect"><em>Mass Effect</em></a> will be marked down to 240<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($3) each and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/battleship"><em>Hasbro Family Game Night: Battleship</em></a> will get rolled back to 400<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5); and on January 25, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/portal-still-alive"><em>Portal: Still Alive</em></a> will have its price temporarily reduced to 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10).<br />
<br />
The Major also announced two new Games on Demand: <em>Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2</em>, available now for $20, and <em>Dead Rising</em>, coming January 26 for an undisclosed price. For the rest of January's bounty, including discounted Games on Demand titles, XBLA releases and Avatar items, head past the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/xbox-live-deals-xbla-releases-and-games-on-demand-for-january/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Xbox Live deals, XBLA releases and Games on Demand for January</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/xbox-live-deals-xbla-releases-and-games-on-demand-for-january/">Xbox Live deals, XBLA releases and Games on Demand for January</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Jan 2010 17:00:00 EST. Before we've even laid hands on its death-by-giant-cellphone sim, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-2"><em>Dead Rising 2</em></a>, developer Blue Castle Games is thinking about its next project. According to a job listing spotted by <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2009/12/07/dead-rising-2-dev-starting-on-new-action-project/">VG247</a>, potential applicants will be required to have their finger on the pulse of "open world and FPS games like <em>Prince of Persia</em>, <em>Assassins Creed</em>, <em>Halo</em>, and everything in between."<br />
<br />
Right, so look for Blue Castle's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-2">Dead Rising 2</a> </em>follow-up, <em>Royal Wall-Running Secret Killer Space Marine, </em>coming in the fall of 2011.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/09/dead-rising-2-dev-working-on-new-action-project/">Dead Rising 2 dev working on new action project</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Dec 2009 11:00:00 EST. There are some things we all know about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/24/tgs-2009-frank-west-is-rising-to-the-occasion-in-tatsunoko-vs/">Frank West</a>. He's covered wars (y'know), enjoys the potent effects of a well-blended smoothie and, with a mean 5 o'clock shadow, looks a great deal like Niko Belic. But, what you may not know is that despite lacking an entire mall's worth of weaponry, the dude is still a pretty solid fighter. <br /><br />Even though we've already put together <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/25/tgs-2009-hands-on-tatsunoko-vs-capcom-vs-that-guy-from-dead/">some words detailing the man's moves</a> in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tatsunoko-vs-capcom/"><em>Tatsunoko vs. Capcom</em></a>, it's always nice to actually see that thing we talked about in motion. So, head past the break for a gameplay video of Capcom's Seth Killian demonstrating West's moves for <a href="http://tgs.gamespot.com/video/6229186/">GameSpot</a>. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2009/09/28/watch_seth_show_you_how_frank_west_works">Capcom-Unity</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/watch-frank-west-chop-his-tatsunoko-vs-capcom-opponents-til-th/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch Frank West chop his Tatsunoko vs. Capcom opponents 'til they drop</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/watch-frank-west-chop-his-tatsunoko-vs-capcom-opponents-til-th/">Watch Frank West chop his Tatsunoko vs. Capcom opponents 'til they drop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Sep 2009 19:00:00 EST. Terror. Is. Reality. Don't believe us? Check out the new trailer, which we just witnessed (and caught on camera) at Capcom's <em>Dead Rising 2</em> event in Tokyo. You don't want to miss Keiji Inafune's posh yellow jacket as he introduces the clip.<br />
<br />
The event is a junket unlike any other at Tokyo Game Show this year. Capcom (with the help of Microsoft) took over a restaurant/bar in Ebisu, promising free food and drinks to all attendees -- with the promise of a two-of-a-kind yellow jacket at stake for the person who wins tonight's <em>Dead Rising 2</em> mutliplayer tournament.<br />
<br />
Yeah, multiplayer. Long <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/28/confirmed-dead-rising-2-has-multiplayer/">hinted at</a>, we finally had a chance to play the game's competitive multiplayer mode. It certainly wasn't what we were expecting. You take control of one of four participants in a zombie-ridden game show called "Terror Is Reality." Players will compete in four different minigames, each of which takes a different spin on <em>Dead Rising</em>'s zombie-smashing gameplay.<br />

Everyone's favorite wartime photojournalist and <em>Dead Rising </em>protagonist Frank West <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2009/09/23/tgs_2009_tatsunoko_vs_capcom_ultimate_allstars_its_frank_west_baby">was just confirmed</a> to be a contender in Capcom's upcoming inter-franchise brawler, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tatsunoko-vs-capcom"><em>Tatsunoko vs. Capcom</em></a>. This news comes two weeks after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/10/rumor-frank-west-zero-to-be-in-tatsunoko-vs-capcom/">a number of the game's assets</a>, which indicated the appearance of West, <em>Mega Man</em> series regular Zero, and a bunch of anime characters we <em>absolutely</em> do not recognize, were leaked.<br /> <br /> You can check out a video demo of West's brawling expertise after the jump. Know where he learned to fight that well? Probably from his recent encounter with the unyielding zombocalypse. (What did you think we were going to say? "Because he's covered wars?" That just doesn't make any sense. Think before you speak, silly goose.)<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-tgs-2009/">Tatsunoko vs Capcom (TGS 2009)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-tgs-2009/#2311968"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/ss0331_204251_all_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-tgs-2009/#2311967"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/ss0331_194639_all_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-tgs-2009/#2311966"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/ss0331_194142_all_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-tgs-2009/#2311965"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/ss0331_201625_all_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-tgs-2009/#2311964"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/ss0331_201508_all_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/24/tgs-2009-frank-west-is-rising-to-the-occasion-in-tatsunoko-vs/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS 2009: Frank West is rising to the occasion in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/24/tgs-2009-frank-west-is-rising-to-the-occasion-in-tatsunoko-vs/">TGS 2009: Frank West is rising to the occasion in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Sep 2009 00:00:00 EST. Excuse us if we dedicate this entire post to one, <em>single</em> screenshot. A picture -- of gigantic metal death spikes protruding from Chuck's helmet in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising-2/"><em>Dead Rising 2</em></a> -- is worth <em>a thousand words,</em> after all. Also, that bodysuit is pretty snazzy. Go on, take it all in ...<br /><br />See what we mean? Shoryuken forum user mumu recently went <a href="http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=7456555&amp;postcount=1063">snooping</a> around the Japanese site for <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/tatsunoko-vs-capcom"><em>Tatsunoko vs. Capcom</em></a> and uncovered some interesting items. Within the source code of the character section of the site, mumu found lines of code hinting towards the remaining secret characters:<br />
<ul>
    <li>'images/oncharactor_btn_zero.jpg'</li>
    <li>'images/oncharactor_btn_frank.jpg'</li>
    <li>'images/oncharactor_btn_yatter02.jpg'</li>
    <li> 'images/oncharactor_btn_joe.jpg'</li>
    <li> 'images/oncharactor_btn_tekkabla.jpg'</li>
</ul>
So, aside from yesterday's <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/09/09/rumor-a-new-tatsunoko-vs-capcom-challenger-appears/">Tekkaman Blade</a>, mumu postulates that <em>Dead Rising</em>'s Frank West and Zero from the <em>Mega Man</em> series are also going to be in the game and, on the Tatsunoko side, we'll get Yatterman #2 from <em>Yatterman</em> and Joe Asakura from <em>Gatchaman</em>. If you'll excuse us, we'll be crying in the corner, objecting once again to the lack of <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/so-why-isnt-phoenix-wright-in-tatsunoko-vs-capcom/">Phoenix Wright</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/09/10/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-ultimate-all-stars-roster-leaked/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/10/rumor-frank-west-zero-to-be-in-tatsunoko-vs-capcom/">Rumor: Frank West, Zero to be in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Sep 2009 13:30:00 EST. Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/11/capcom-offers-up-40-platinum-hits-triple-pack-for-xbox-360/">Triple Pack of awesomeness</a> will not make it to the shores (nor stores) of Europe. <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/capcoms-360-triple-pack-is-us-only">Eurogamer</a> was given the sad news by a Capcom representative, who said, "We're not doing it here." Although he could have been referring to the latest dance craze sweeping the continent, everyone's quite sure he was referring to the zombie-, demon- and bug-fighting bundle. <br /> <br /> The Platinum Hits Triple Pack releases September 8 in North America and features <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-planet"><em>Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - Colonies Edition</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/devil-may-cry-4"><em>Devil May Cry 4</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/11/capcoms-triple-pack-not-coming-to-europe/">Capcom's triple-pack not coming to Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Aug 2009 12:00:00 EST. If your gaming time has been sorely missing some Capcom TLC, then know the company is set to offer up a few of its older titles in one Xbox 360 package. Starting September 8, gamers can snatch up Capcom's Platinum Hits Triple Pack, which is pretty much just that: A package containing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising</em></a>; <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-planet"><em>Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - Colonies Edition</em></a>; and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/devil-may-cry-4"><em>Devil May Cry 4</em></a>.<br /><br />It's all well and good to try and introduce gamers to some of your almost-classics, but we think Capcom seriously missed a chance to get some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bionic-commando"><em>Bionic Commando</em></a>s out there into the world. Yes, we get it's a <em>Platinum Hits</em> bundle, but what could you possibly be doing with all those discs, Capcom? Capcom's Head of Research &amp; Development Management Group and Online Business (breath) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/keiji-inafune">Keiji Inafune</a> is <em>all about</em> the Western game market. In an internal <a href="http://ir.capcom.co.jp/english/interview/vol09/index.html">interview on Capcom's website</a> published earlier today, Inafune makes a variety of comments regarding Capcom's changing attitude with regards to the Western market. "I think I can only get away with saying this now, but I really thought that using the Xbox was the only way to break into overseas markets, and I took that hypothesis all the way," Inafune says in the piece, citing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lost-planet"><em>Lost Planet</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising</em></a> as two prime examples of games targeted at Western audiences that were successful.<br /><br />Speaking to the state of the video game industry and Capcom's relevance within it, he continues, "Up until now, we made games in Japan, and it was merely coincidental that those games sold overseas. But overseas game makers in regions like North America and Europe have gained strength, and it has become clear that this is the direction the game industry is going." We've heard statements like this before from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/20/inaba-western-devs-superior-to-japanese-devs/"><em>MadWorld</em> creator Atsushi Inaba</a>, but never from such an influential and powerful figure<strike>head</strike> within the Japanese development community. Considering the online multiplayer focus of the company's cadre of games both released and on the horizon, we think Capcom is putting its money where its mouth is.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/capcoms-inafune-xbox-was-only-way-into-overseas-market/">Capcom's Inafune: Xbox was only way into overseas market</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Mar 2009 12:57:00 EST. <strong>Update: </strong>The reviews haven't exactly been pouring in for <em>Dead Rising: Chop 'Till You Drop</em>. We've added one more, but this can't be a good sign for the game.<br /><br />It's been a rocky road to release for Capcom's Wii port, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Dead+Rising+Chop+Till+You+Drop"><em>Dead Rising: Chop 'Till You Drop</em></a>, and now that it is finally out, has all of the hate been warranted? Well, we can't answer that question, but we can offer you the next best thing: some reviews. Find the few scores available so far below and for those of you who have spent some time with it, be sure to drop your own two cents into our commenting fountain. We'll update the post as new reviews roll in.<br />

    <li><a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/956/956791p1.html">IGN</a> (<strong>69/100</strong>): "A lot of corners have been cut to get this game on the Wii and the result is not the impressive next-gen experience it was on the 360. Rather, it's a breezy weekend diversion with some fun gameplay and subpar graphics."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/gamereview.php?id=10156">GameTrailers</a> (<strong>69/100</strong>): "A more flexible save system is also a step in the right direction. Yet, the repetitive mission objectives and moronic AI ensure that the enjoyment you glean from it will be directly proportional to how much you enjoy using new weapons to kill zombies."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=7310">Official Nintendo Magazine</a> (<strong>68/100</strong>): "A real let-down. There are some great ideas in here but they're just not executed very well. Stick to <em>Resident Evil 4</em>."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=209222">CVG</a> (<strong>50/100</strong>): "Another example of a game that greatly underperforms on a perfectly capable console."</li>

Seemingly aware of our penchant for writing headlines like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/11/hey-you-got-mirrors-edge-in-my-tomb-raider/">this one</a>, MTV's Stephen Totilo <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/02/20/takeuchi-shoot-down-dead-rising-and-resident-evil-crossover-prospects/">recently asked</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil"><em>Resident Evil</em></a> producer Jun Takeuchi whether or not Capcom would ever consider a <em>Resident Evil</em> / <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising</em></a> crossover project. Takeuchi's response: "No!" It makes sense, given that both series have rather disparate plotlines, different design philosophies and ... wait, what reason did he give?<br /><br />"We can't have a <em>Resident Evil</em> character running around in just pants." Considering Chris Redfield is just <em>barely </em>able to squeeze his pythons through his shirt sleeves as it is, we're not sure how solid that reasoning is. Regardless, it looks like our dream of donning a Mega Man costume and then running over Albert Wesker with a lawnmower has been crushed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/23/psa-capcom-wont-mix-resident-evil-with-dead-rising/">PSA: Capcom won't mix Resident Evil with Dead Rising</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Feb 2009 18:00:00 EST. In addition to the '<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/16/kick-a-soccer-ball-till-you-drop-in-dead-risings-new-challenge/">Challenge Quests</a>' revealed earlier this week, Capcom has shown the first screens of another new mode for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/04/dead-rising-chop-till-the-special-forces-show-up/">Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop</a>:</em> "THE SNIPER" mode. On the face of it, a series of sniper-rifle-based challenges that task Frank with shooting certain targets within a strict time limit -- red birds flying among flocks of blue birds, and zombies attacking people whom you are trying to protect -- sounds like a fun arcade-style addition to the game.<br /><br />But we <em>cannot</em> support the "Kobun Mask Boom" mission. This mission puts everyone in <a href="http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/Servbot">Servbot</a> helmets, and you must determine which of the wandering Servbot-people are zombies by observing their clothing and behavior. It's not the possibility of shooting innocent people that offends us -- it's the fact that this is almost a minigame about shooting Servbots, and that is <em>not cool</em>. Servbots are wonderful!<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/dead-risings-sniper-mode-crosses-the-line/">Dead Rising's 'Sniper Mode' crosses the line</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Feb 2009 10:00:00 EST.
