If your PlayStation Plus membership is still active next week, you'll be privy to some deep, deep discounts between July 12 and July 19 thanks to Sony's PSN Summer Sale. If your membership has lapsed, you'll still get discounts, but only one "deep" worth.<br />
<br />
Sony announced the 11 games that will form the basis of the sale, including <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/scott-pilgrim-vs-the-world"><em>Scott Pilgrim vs. the World</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/shank"><em>Shank</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/pac-man-championship-edition-dx"><em>Pac-Man Championship Edition DX</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/chime-super-deluxe"><em>Chime Super Deluxe</em></a>, the Move-enhanced port of<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space-extraction">Dead Space: Extraction</a></em>, and more. Plus members will save 50% off the normal price, while everyone else will grab a nice 30% discount.<br />
<br />
Check out the full list after the break. If you see anything you like, we suggest going and purchasing a PSN card to pay for it, on account of ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/26/sony-says-psn-intrusion-compromised-personal-info-hopes-to-ha/">recent events</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/07/psn-summer-sale-drops-prices-on-scott-pilgrim-pac-man-ce-dx-an/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSN Summer Sale drops prices on Scott Pilgrim, Pac-Man CE DX, and more next week</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/07/psn-summer-sale-drops-prices-on-scott-pilgrim-pac-man-ce-dx-an/">PSN Summer Sale drops prices on Scott Pilgrim, Pac-Man CE DX, and more next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Jul 2011 14:55:00 EST. You know her. You adore her. You may barely remember her name, but you'll never forget the face of "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/dead-space-extraction-box-art-is-terrified-and-screaming/">Dead Space Girl</a>." If you don't plan on picking up <em>Dead Space 2</em> for PS3, which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/ps3-dead-space-extraction-explained-on-video/">includes <em>Dead Space Extraction</em></a>, you can still grab the Move-controlled port of this on-rails shooter by downloading it from PSN for $15 today -- or try the demo for free.<br />
<br />
If you're looking for something just as bloody as <em>Dead Space</em>, but half as mature, there's also the <em>Bulletstorm</em> demo. It's definitely worth a test drive, if only for the simple experience of tossing a futuristic lasso on a bad guy, yanking him toward you in slo-mo, shooting him a couple times in-process, and then kicking him full-blast into some spikes. Check out the full PSN update after the break.<br />

If our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/19/dead-space-extraction-ps3-preview-rescue-operation/">preview</a> of the PS3 version of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dead-space-extraction">Dead Space Extraction</a></em> was too stationary for you, <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/01/20/dead-space-extraction-is-deadlier-with-playstation-move/">PlayStation Blog</a> has posted a new video interview with producer Zach Mumbach. The interview briefly touches on the improved visuals, which Mumbach notes are now "full HD." It also explains the new Move controls, which obviate the need for the Wii version's Nunchuk, leaving your other hand free to recoil in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/dead-space-extraction-box-art-is-terrified-and-screaming/">terror</a>. EA CEO John Riccitiello feels that if the Wii would drop its price to $99 that it would "explode" back to its '07 and '08 sales levels. In an interview with <a href="http://www.industrygamers.com/news/nintendo-wii-would-explode-at-99-and-lack-of-third-party-support-is-frustrating-ea/">IndustryGamers</a>, the executive expressed that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/nintendo-expects-to-ship-4m-3ds-in-fiscal-year-cuts-profit-fore/">recent Wii declines</a> come from Microsoft and Sony offering competitive "gesture-based" peripherals against Nintendo's device. <br />
<br />
Riccitiello also dragged out the classic complaint regarding Nintendo's treatment of third-party content. "I think it's a frustration for all third-party publishers, when a platform holder does less to promote third-party content. A <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ea,@mobile">great third-party company is Apple</a>, a company that's all third-party content," he stated. "I don't care whether it's <em>Mario</em> or <em>Twilight Princess</em> or <em>GoldenEye</em>; it was their own content. I'm going back to N64, and I can go back to SNES if you want, but they've never really been a heavy third-party supporting system."<br />
<br />
He concluded that it's not that Nintendo doesn't try to do good by third parties, just that Nintendo starts "the morning thinking what's best for [its] own intellectual property."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/16/eas-riccitiello-wii-could-use-price-cut-support-toward-third/">EA's Riccitiello: Wii could use price cut, support toward third parties</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Dec 2010 21:00:00 EST. EA is sending in the experts to salvage <em>Dead Space Extraction, </em>left adrift in retail space last year. Although <em>Extraction</em> impressed critics with its threatening environments and frantic action, it never quite found the audience it deserved on the Wii. The on-rails shooter was an essential component of EA's harsh sci-fi universe, trading engineer Isaac Clarke's high-pressure exploration for a briskly paced series of intense standoffs -- that 480p resolution certainly didn't stop it from being a <em>Dead Space</em> game.<br />
<br />
The PlayStation 3 version's high-definition graphics are a straightforward (if unambitious) improvement, but the wider distribution via the PlayStation Network, and through Limited Edition PS3 copies of next year's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space-2">Dead Space 2</a>, o</em>ffers the greatest opportunity to connect with new players. <br />

How would you like to own a piece of history? Sure, at any time you could point your browser <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/@dead-space-girl">here</a> and relive the events that transpired on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/dead-space-extraction-box-art-is-terrified-and-screaming/">Dead Space Girl day</a>, but it's just not the same as being able to actually put your hands on a copy of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space-extraction"><em>Dead Space Extraction</em></a>, y'know? You could touch your monitor, but who wants fingerprints and smudges all over their display?<br />
<br />
Instead, we'd like to inform you of a sale at Amazon, where you can snag a copy of <em>Dead Space Extraction</em> on Wii for just under $18 now -- offered through a separate retailer, though orders are being fulfilled by Amazon, so it's<span style="font-style: italic;"> pretty much</span> the same as if you bought it from Amazon directly. And, think about it: next time you run into any of us from The 'Stiq (very possible, considering we're big fans of your favorite pizza joint), you could get it signed by the people who made fun of the cover on the internet. <br />
<br />
If that isn't incentive enough to drop a Hamilton, then we're afraid your priorities are <em>all screwed up</em>. <br />

The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space-2"><em>Dead Space 2</em></a> presentation during Sony's E3 press conference brought with it a fairly pleasant surprise -- the PS3 version of the game will come with a port of the Wii rail-shooter, <em>Dead Space: Extraction</em>, now with PlayStation Move support. We're not sure what kinds of upgrades the game's visuals will be subjected to, but this might just influence our decision when it comes time to decide which platform to purchase the spacey sequel upon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/dead-space-2-comes-with-move-based-extraction-on-ps3/">Dead Space 2 comes with Move-based Extraction on PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jun 2010 16:29:00 EST. Speaking at a recent EA showcase in London, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space"><em>Dead Space</em></a> executive producer Steve Papoutsis explained that while Visceral Games has plenty of ideas for the deep space horror series, the studio doesn't intend to run the franchise into the ground. <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/visceral_we_wont_cheapen_dead_space.html">According to Videogamer.com</a>, Papoutsis told attendees, "we've mapped out plenty of games worth of stuff. But there has to be an interest, right?" He added, "we don't want to cheapen what we're doing. We're really focused on quality with it. Hopefully if people like this one, we get to make another one."<br />
<br />
Papoutsis then told the crowd, "it would be great to just keep making more and more of them. We're thinking kart racer, a fitness game... joke!" Yeah, we're not sure a <em>Dead Space</em> fitness game would go over so well. You know, considering Isaac Clarke's main technique for weight loss is to forcibly remove excess appendages with the aid of futuristic power tools.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/19/plenty-of-dead-space-material-planned-producer-wary-of-diluti/">'Plenty' of Dead Space material planned, producer wary of diluting franchise</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 May 2010 14:00:00 EST. Despite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/21/npd-dead-space-extraction-sold-9-000-copies-in-september/">slow to non-existent sales</a> for several high-profile third-party Nintendo Wii titles, the company's US head, Reggie Fils-Aime, still believes that third-party publishers on Nintendo's console can be successful. Speaking with <a href="http://kotaku.com/5405667/reggie-wii-2-theories-miss-key-point">Kotaku</a>, Fils-Aime says he's "extremely disappointed" with the lack of major third party games on the Wii. He even goes so far as to say he's spoken (presumably quite sternly) with "every publisher who makes content that is not available on my platform" about the subject.<br />
<br />
When questioned as to why major titles like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gta-iv"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassins-creed-2"><em>Assassin's Creed 2</em></a> aren't headed to his company's console, he explains it as a measure of long lead times rather than technological inability. "Typically decisions are being made two years prior ... and so the decisions two years ago were that those types of games would not be effective on the platform." And though the subject isn't directly broached, Fils-Aime remains steadfast that third-party titles can be successful on the Wii ... with the right marketing. "High-quality, effectively marketed against our installed base, will sell. Period. End of story." <br />
<br />
It would appear then that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/boom-blox"><em>Boom Blox</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-conduit"><em>The Conduit</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/no-more-heroes"><em>No More Heroes</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/little-kings-story">a mess</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/house-of-the-dead-overkill">other third-party titles</a>, had some truly ineffective marketing by Reggie's standards.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/17/nintendos-fils-aime-effectively-marketed-third-party-titles/">Nintendo's Fils-Aime: 'effectively marketed' third-party titles can sell on Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 12:30:00 EST. A list of purported <a href="http://gamerdeals.net/blogs/weekday-deals/archive/2009/11/15/toysrus-black-friday-ad-leaked.aspx">Black Friday game deals</a> for Toys R Us has shown up online, with a few temporary price drops that may justify a late night or early morning trip to TRU on November 27.<br />
<br />
Most of the great deals are "5AM Doorbusters," which means that if you have yet to pick up <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/halo-3-odst">Halo 3: ODST</a></em>, <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/need-for-speed-shift">Need for Speed Shift</a></em>, or <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/forza-motorsport-3">Forza 3</a></em>, they'll all be $34.99 ... at 5AM. Good luck! Also marked down at that obscenely early hour: <em>Dead Space Extraction</em>, which most of you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/21/npd-dead-space-extraction-sold-9-000-copies-in-september/">have yet to pick up</a>. It'll be just $24.99. Whether any of that is worth getting up at ridiculous o'clock to fight each other over is <em>your call</em>. See the full list of deals <a href="http://gamerdeals.net/blogs/weekday-deals/archive/2009/11/15/toysrus-black-friday-ad-leaked.aspx">here</a>.<br />

According to numbers given to <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/npd-dead-space-extraction-sells-9000-in-september">Edge</a> by the NPD, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/snap-judgment-dead-space-extraction/"><em>Dead Space Extraction</em></a> only managed to sell around 9,000 copies in September -- although it should be noted that the game was out for only five days in the NPD's September sales period (September 29 - October 3).<br /> <br /> EEDAR's Jesse Divnich, however, cites the sales as the result of a successful <em>not telling anyone about the game</em> experiment. "Electronic Arts didn't market <em>Dead Space Extraction</em> as much as it does with other titles," he told Edge. "And the success or failure of a Wii title usually correlates directly to marketing spend. If Electronic Arts spent little on marketing, I am sure the sell through was no surprise to them." It was, like everything, a complete <em>shock</em> to Dead Space Girl.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/21/npd-dead-space-extraction-sold-9-000-copies-in-september/">NPD: Dead Space Extraction sold 9,000 copies in September</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Oct 2009 13:58:00 EST. Did you know that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction"><em>Dead Space: Extraction</em></a> landed in stores this week? It's true! We certainly dug it in our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/snap-judgment-dead-space-extraction/">Snap Judgment</a>, but in case that just wasn't enough for you, we've compiled a few other folks' opinions on the game just below. Worried about not seeing that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/@dead-space-girl">beautiful screaming face</a> in the future? We are too, folks. We are too. <br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.gamepro.com/article/reviews/212187/dead-space-extraction/">GamePro</a> <strong>(100/100)</strong>: "An experience that's more captivating and engaging than any light-gun game I've ever played before. [The story] mirrors <em>Dead Space</em>'s thoughtful dialogue, characterizations and pacing which is a good thing all around."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/games/dead-space-extraction/wii/game-reviews/review/8080/2342/">GameDaily</a> <strong>(80/100)</strong>: "Although we questioned EA's decision to do this, as well as bring <em>Dead Space</em> to the family centric Wii, everything clicks and the game's surprisingly enjoyable. Instead of conjuring up a cheesy narrative (as seen in other shooters like <em>Ghost Squad</em>), the developers put a lot of effort into the story and its characters."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/dead-space-extraction-review">Eurogamer</a> <strong>(80/100)</strong>: "Gameplay is straightforward, yet it's a refined familiarity, borrowing numerous elements from the original <em>Dead Space</em> in abundance while wrapping them around the well-worn demands of a typical on-rails shooter ... One area that definitely benefits from the on-rails nature of <em>Extraction</em> is the overall pacing. Sometimes you creep along agonisingly, other times it feels like the enemy onslaught is never going to end. There are few occasions where you don't come away feeling like your scraped through by the skin of your teeth, and even on the game's lowest 'Normal' difficulty, there's a definite sense of achievement when you get through."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.giantbomb.com/dead-space-extraction/61-25358/reviews/">Giant Bomb</a> <strong>(60/100)</strong>: "<em>Extraction</em>'s marketing campaign would like you to think of it as a 'guided experience' that whisks you through the dramatic beginnings of the series' horrible space-monster outbreak, but in blunt terms, <em>Extraction</em> is an on-rails shooter. Blunter still: it's a light-gun game. These days, that's not a style of game serious game players usually gravitate toward. But keeping the genre's inherent restrictions in mind--not to mention the limitations of the Wii hardware -- <em>Extraction</em> is really pretty good, for what it is."</li>

<strong><br /> Time played: 3 hours</strong><br /> <br /> I'm personally a big fan of on-rails shooters, a genre that I think rarely gets its due. I'm not all that big on exploration, and I'm lazy, so having someone else take the reigns for me is a welcome relief, allowing me to focus on the all-important business of murder.<br /> <br /> So it's quite a treat to see a game like <em>Dead Space Extraction</em> that strikes a blow for lazy guys everywhere by finding the strengths of the genre and running with them.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/">Dead Space: Extraction</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036269"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/spacesuit01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036268"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/weller01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036267"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/railing_jump01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036266"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/ishimura01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036265"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/spacesuit02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/snap-judgment-dead-space-extraction/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Snap Judgment: Dead Space Extraction</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/snap-judgment-dead-space-extraction/">Snap Judgment: Dead Space Extraction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Sep 2009 13:20:00 EST. And, as you can see in the trailer above, they're paying the price, which makes us think two things:<br />
<ol>
    <li>Humanity needs to prepare for the inevitable. No, we're not talking about making a bunch of Arnold Schwarzenegger clones, but we could all stand to beef up on our diplomacy skills.</li>
    <li>Necromorphs have an <em>amazing </em>work ethic. They never take breaks and wouldn't dare dream of calling in sick.</li>

Well, we don't. And we imagine the odds are that you don't either. We don't really understand these special people that want to see 15 minutes of a game they're not playing and spoil the experience for themselves, but if that's how you want to be introduced to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction"><em>Dead Space Extraction</em></a> then allow us (well, <a href="http://www.vooks.net/story-18458-Video-Dead-Space-Extraction--The-first-15-minutes.html">Vooks</a>) to be your vessel.<br />
<br />
... Well, how was it? How about that dirt? Is it washing off? No, we didn't think so.<br />

If you're not turned into a horribly mutated zombie, then you're being ripped apart by aforementioned zombies. The upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction"><em>Dead Space Extraction</em></a> for Wii certainly places its characters between a rock and a really horrible, bloody place. The latest dev diary for the rail shooter reveals the characters of the game, and talks about how each character has their own unique motivations. They are united by one thing though: the incredible desire not to meet a bloody, guts-splattering death.<br /><br />One key thing to note about <em>Extraction</em> is that it's far more story-driven than the first game, offering five times the dialogue as the original. Considering you're traveling with a group of people, instead of exploring solo, that makes a lot of sense. It'll be interesting to see how the Wii audience responds to yet another third-party M-rated game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/19/here-are-the-victims-of-dead-space-extraction/">Here are the victims of Dead Space Extraction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Sep 2009 11:00:00 EST. Sure, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo-channel">Nintendo Channel</a> may have received quite the facelift today, adding a host of new features and tossing a much needed fresh coat of paint on top of it all, but the best and brightest of the new content on offer is undoubtedly the behind the scenes look at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/scribblenauts"><em>Scribblenauts</em></a>. We say this because, well, <em>everything Scribblenauts </em>wins. Sorry, interesting and informative <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction"><em>Dead Space Extraction</em></a> video! You picked the wrong week to be new. <br /><br />Anywho, if you've got a Wii, check out the Nintendo Channel for a bunch of new content. Or, if you're lazy and want to know what's there before booting up the system, head past the break where we've got you covered, baby!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/14/this-week-on-the-nintendo-channel-behind-the-scribble-with-scri/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>This Week on the Nintendo Channel: Behind the scribble with Scribblenauts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/14/this-week-on-the-nintendo-channel-behind-the-scribble-with-scri/">This Week on the Nintendo Channel: Behind the scribble with Scribblenauts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Sep 2009 18:00:00 EST. However, it's good at showing some more of the gameplay we can expect from the on-rails shooter when it injects into retail on September 29th.<br /><br />Some highlights include a look at a big tentacle boss, some of the "mini game" elements -- like building a barricade -- and a nice clear look at how stasis and strategic dismemberment will look. Oh, strategic dismemberment, it's been too long.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/">Dead Space: Extraction</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036269"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/spacesuit01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036268"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/weller01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036267"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/railing_jump01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036266"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/ishimura01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036265"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/spacesuit02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/02/latest-dead-space-extraction-trailer-reveals-really-big-boss-bat/">Latest Dead Space Extraction trailer reveals really big boss battle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Sep 2009 16:45:00 EST. <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction">Dead Space Extraction</a></em> has gone gold and is ready for its on-rails debut on September 29. Those who pre-order the game from participating retailers will receive four challenge rooms. Of course, that does away with the actual challenge of unlocking them, since you normally gain access simply by playing through the game's chapters. <br /><br />Perhaps that explains Dead Space Girl's terrified expression on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/dead-space-extraction-box-art-is-terrified-and-screaming/">the cover</a> -- she didn't pre-order and now has to <em>play the game she just bought</em>. <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/">Dead Space: Extraction</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036269"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/spacesuit01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036268"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/weller01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036267"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/railing_jump01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036266"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/ishimura01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036265"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/spacesuit02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/02/dead-space-extraction-pre-order-instantly-unlocks-challenge-rooms/">Dead Space Extraction pre-order instantly unlocks 'challenge rooms'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Sep 2009 10:15:00 EST. HBO's <em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0844441/">True Blood</a></em> houses an all-star cast, one of which consistently tops the sales charts throughout the gaming world -- of course, we're referring to the Nintendo Wii. The home console has made multiple appearances in the show, from the main character <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bUi6jukZ_E">showcasing his golf skills</a> to its most <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKrSDZpFIm4">recent cameo</a> -- showing off the upcoming shooter, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Dead-Space-Extraction/">Dead Space: Extraction</a></em>.<br /><br />In last <strike>night's</strike> week's season 2 episode, "New World In My View," Hoyt Fortenberry's aggressive mother waggles her way through a slew of <em>Extraction</em> enemies. While the game won't hit store shelves until September 29, the popular adult drama looks like as good a place as any to get the game's marketing machine rolling. Check out the clip after the break. We were excited about the unique controls and what they brought to the gamer," explains Steve Papoutsis in this new dev diary. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction/"><em>Extraction</em></a>, the Wii-exclusive prequel to <em>Dead Space</em>, as with many Wii games, takes advantage of multiple control modes, depending on whether you use the Wii Remote or Zapper. Either way, the game utilizes some clever Wii-specific tricks, like switching to alt-fire by simply turning the controller on its side.<br /><br />The footage showcased in the latest dev diary highlights some of the best visuals we've seen on Wii so far. One of the co-op segments highlighted in the video combines puzzle-solving and monster-blasting in a rather smartly designed (and terrifying) way. Even worse, the two players will have to switch off during the puzzle as enemies continue to jump in. With so many clever ideas being thrown about, <em>Extraction</em> may have a shot at making us all <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/dead-space-extraction-box-art-is-terrified-and-screaming/">scream in terror</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/visceral-explains-the-controls-of-dead-space-extraction/">Visceral explains the controls of Dead Space Extraction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 17:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">The guys at Visceral Games have revealed the box art for the upcoming Wiixclusive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space"><span style="font-style: italic;">Dead Space</span></a> prequel, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction"><span style="font-style: italic;">Dead Space Extraction</span></a>. This time, there's no sign of Isaac or his iconic space suit. Instead, it consists of a <span style="font-style: italic;">terrified and screaming</span> woman protecting a man from evil space beasties -- an ultimately futile battle if the events of the first game are anything to go by. <br /><br />We're all for equal opportunities in the space monster-battling workplace, but this <span style="font-style: italic;">terrified and screaming</span> woman is using Isaac's plasma cutter -- is she a space-engineer too? We suppose anything will do when you're <span style="font-style: italic;">terrified and screaming </span>for your life. Or from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/nintendo-reveals-the-heart-tracking-wii-vitality-sensor/">Wii Vitality Sensor</a> reveal. We don't mind telling you, by the way, that we can't <em>help</em> but be delighted that Nintendo is making something <em>that weird</em>. And if you don't think it's a good idea, don't worry too much about it. It's Nintendo, after all, and the thing will end up being used in one game at most.<br /><br />Anyway, our question this week is about rail shooters. We've seen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction/"><em>Dead Space: Extraction</em></a> for the Wii <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction/">before</a>, and we've seen it again at this year's E3, but have we gotten our <em>hands</em> on it yet? The answer is a very guided yes. We took the space survival horror for a spin at EA in an appropriately darkened room with lead designer Wright Bagwell, and we're happy to report that it does indeed contain several poop-your-pants moments, despite the fact that it's on rails. <br /><br />Head beyond the break for the full report, and peep the new images in the gallery below. Quickly, before your light runs out and you have to <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/dead-space-extraction-glow-worms-offer-unlimited-light-arm-cr/">shake your hand</a> like it's holding a can of spray paint for more illumination.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/">Dead Space: Extraction</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036269"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/spacesuit01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036268"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/weller01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036267"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/railing_jump01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036266"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/ishimura01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036265"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/spacesuit02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/hands-on-dead-space-extraction/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on: Dead Space: Extraction</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/hands-on-dead-space-extraction/">Hands-on: Dead Space: Extraction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Jun 2009 13:05:00 EST. The on-rails Wii shooter will have players blasting Necromorph limbs on Aegis VII, just prior to the events of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/dead-space">Dead Space</a></em>. The game will release in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/dead-space-extraction-severing-limbs-september-29/">September</a>, but we expect to have some hands-on time with the game and its co-op gameplay next week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/29/dead-space-extraction-gets-viral-with-pre-e3-video/">Dead Space Extraction gets viral with pre-E3 video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 May 2009 18:45:00 EST. Electronic Arts has narrowed its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/ea-announces-dead-space-extraction-for-wii-coming-this-fall/">previously announced</a> fall release window for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction">Dead Space Extraction</a></em>. The Wii-exclusive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/08/dead-space-extraction-is-ea-experiment-in-mature-content-for-w/">experiment</a> is set to slice into retail shelves (and necromorphs' limbs) in North America on September 29. Adventurers overseas have a bit more waiting to do, with the game expected to ship in Europe on October 2.<br /><br /><em>Extraction</em> promises a number of new features over the original <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space">Dead Space</a></em>, including co-op gameplay as well as new weapons and enemies. We were left impressed following <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/joystiq-impressions-dead-space-extraction/">our recent time</a> with the upcoming "guided first-person shooter experience," and assuming our limbs can take <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/03/06/dead-space-extractions-twist-off-limbs/">all that twisting</a> we look forward to turning back the alien scourge this fall.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/dead-space-extraction-severing-limbs-september-29/">Dead Space Extraction severing limbs September 29</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 May 2009 13:45:00 EST. You might want to sit down for this (you look tired). Judging by an update to Electronic Arts' Pratik Patel's <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/pub/1/654/660">LinkedIn page</a>, work on <em>Dead Space 2</em> is already underway. The engineering guru updated the page to include his role on the still as-yet-unannounced sequel, on which he is serving as the game's technical/development director. <br /><br />Hardly shocking, we know. Like a necromorph's limbs, any real doubt of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space/">Dead Space</a></em> getting a sophomore outing was severed with EA's own Frank Gibeau and Glenn Schofield <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/ea-dead-space-army-of-two-bad-company-sequels-in-the-works/">admitting as much</a> just days after the original's release. Nothing else is yet known, though with E3 just around the corner and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction">Dead Space Extraction</a></em> dismembering Wii shelves later this year, we don't expect to be retiring our trusty plasma cutter any time soon.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://supererogatory.tumblr.com/post/105307993/technical-director-electronic-arts-public">Supererogatory</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/09/dead-space-2-development-reconfirmed-by-linkedin-profile/">Dead Space 2 development reconfirmed by LinkedIn profile</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 09 May 2009 22:30:00 EST. <div align="left">In an interview with <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/keeping-it-edgy?page=3">gamesindustry.biz</a>, Glen Schofield, VP and general manager of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/04/ea-redwood-shores-becomes-visceral-games-gets-moody-logo/">recently re-branded Visceral Games</a>, said that the EA studio's upcoming Wii title <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction">Dead Space Extraction</a> </em>is an experiment in mature content on the platform for the publisher. <br /><br />Asked how he felt given the large portion of Nintendo's userbase seemingly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/gta-chinatown-wars-sells-89k-units-in-march/">disinterested in mature games</a>, Schofield remarked, "I'm confident -- it is an experiment, but there's going to be 50 million Wiis out there by the time the game comes out, so if you only hit 2 per cent of the installed base and you've got a huge number." <em> </em></div>
<div align="left"><br />Schofield also pointed to other publishers' attempts at tapping this market, no matter how small it may be, while managing to work in a dig on the low overall scores of most Wii titles. "There have been some [mature games] already, <em>Resident Evil</em> and <em>House of the Dead</em>, that have done really well," he said. "So we're pushing for that 80-plus-rated game, and that'll put you in the top 5 per cent of all Wii games... because most do not have a great score."</div>

Ammunition is not the only scarcity in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction">Dead Space Extraction</a></em>. In fact, flashlights seem even more difficult to come by, as miners on Aegis 7 are left to keep their wits about them basked in the comforting greenish hue of a "glow worm." The game's equivalent of glow sticks, glow worms offer an unlimited source of light that must be recharged by shaking the Wii remote. <br /><br />As mentioned following our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/joystiq-impressions-dead-space-extraction/">recent time with the game</a>, the mechanic, which is described in greater detail on <a href="http://deadspace.ea.com/blogs/blog-en-us/archive/2009/04/30/lead-designer-wright-bagwell-and-art-director-thomas-holt-designing-the-glow-worm.aspx">EA's <em>Dead Space</em> blog</a>, certainly ups the scare factor. Still, we can't help but wonder if -- after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/dead-space-extraction-about-as-long-as-original/">10 or so hours</a> of vigorous shaking -- these glow worms will leave us clutching our arms, reeling from a wholly different kind of strategic dismemberment.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/dead-space-extraction-glow-worms-offer-unlimited-light-arm-cr/">Dead Space Extraction 'glow worms' offer unlimited light, arm cramps</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 May 2009 22:00:00 EST. In contrast, "I think with our game right now I think we're hitting on something that's really interesting and really fun, and we're hitting on the atmosphere and the visuals that people have started to associate with <em>Dead Space</em>." It's hard to believe that <em>Grand Theft Auto</em> just wasn't what people were "looking to buy," and an unexplainable not-really-rail-shooter is, but he could be on to something! Or he could have just decided not to tell VG247 how scared he really was.<br /><br />Papoutsis also extolled the cooperative play found in <em>Extraction:</em> "I love the Wii, I love Nintendo. The <a href="http://jwww.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction"><span style="font-style: italic;">Dead Space: Extraction</span></a> dev team would rather you didn't call its game an "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/ea-announces-dead-space-extraction-for-wii-coming-this-fall/">on rails shooter</a>." It prefers "guided first-person shooter experience." Whatever you decide to call it, there's no escaping (or being extracted from) the fact that this isn't a free-roaming FPS set in the <em>Dead Space </em>universe. Based on a recent live demo of the game we were given, though, it's clear this isn't a mindless shooting gallery, either.<br /><br /><em>Extraction</em> builds not only on the audio-visual presentation of the original game -- and certainly looks &amp; sounds the part -- but also on its unique gameplay mechanics, the most prominent of which being "strategic dismemberment." It also uses the Wii's controls to great effect, as we found during our 15 minutes in Hell (or something close and certainly scary, at least).<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/">Dead Space: Extraction</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036269"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/spacesuit01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036268"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/weller01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036267"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/railing_jump01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036266"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/ishimura01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-extraction/#2036265"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/spacesuit02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/joystiq-impressions-dead-space-extraction/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq impressions: Dead Space: Extraction</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/joystiq-impressions-dead-space-extraction/">Joystiq impressions: Dead Space: Extraction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Apr 2009 17:32:00 EST. That's great, and of course it's wonderful to hear such ideals behind the game's design.<br /><br />But the real attraction here is <em>footage.</em> The video is interspersed with gameplay footage from <em>Extraction</em>, mostly consisting of the disarming (and dislegging) of creepy spider-dudes. In our estimation, at least, <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/EA/">EA</a> is delivering the graphics it needs to ensure that the game is appropriately atmospheric. And by "atmospheric" we mean "<em>eeeeeeeee</em>."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/09/dead-space-extraction-gameplay-footage-and-prod-interview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Space: Extraction gameplay footage &amp; prod interview</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/09/dead-space-extraction-gameplay-footage-and-prod-interview/">Dead Space: Extraction gameplay footage &amp; prod interview</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Apr 2009 15:00:00 EST. You'd better pack a lunch before getting on board <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/ea-announces-dead-space-extraction-for-wii-coming-this-fall/"><em>Dead Space Extraction</em>'s rails</a>. According Steve Papoutsis, the executive producer on the project, the upcoming adventure will last "about as long" as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 original.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space"><em>Dead Space</em></a> filled roughly ten hours or so of our time last October, a period split crying for mommy and backtracking through the USG Ishimura's haunted hulk. Regardless, if accurate, this would make <em>Extraction </em>quite long for an on-rails shooter, though we wonder if Papoutsis' estimate took into account time spent nursing our wrists after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/06/dead-space-extractions-twist-off-limbs/">all that twisting</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=75670">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/dead-space-extraction-about-as-long-as-original/">Dead Space Extraction 'about as long' as original</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 10:30:00 EST. We mentioned how weird we thought it was to use advanced motion-sensing in a title that will presumably be controlled mostly with the Wiimote's pointer. <br /><br />EA seems to agree that it would be a weird choice, which is why it <em>isn't actually doing that</em>. It turns out that the quote was mistakenly taken out of context: at the Goldman Sachs conference, Pleasants talked about EA's <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&amp;newsId=20090226005280&amp;newsLang=en">planned MotionPlus sports games</a> and <em>Dead Space</em> at around the same time, and somehow in the trip onto the Internet, the two subjects became conflated.<br /><br /><strong>Update: </strong>Sean from GameCyte has helped us clarify the source of all the confusion: not a misquote, but rather a mistaken <a href="http://www.gamecyte.com/ea-confirms-motionplus-support-for-dead-space-wii">statement</a> from Pleasants himself. He <em>did</em> say that <em>Dead Space</em> would use the MotionPlus peripheral, which has since been confirmed not to be the case.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/02/motionminus-dead-space-extraction-wont-use-motionplus-after-al/">MotionMinus: Dead Space Extraction won't use MotionPlus after all [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Mar 2009 08:00:00 EST.
