Back in 2009, D.J. Caruso <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/dead-space-being-directed-with-an-eagle-eye-by-d-j-caruso/">signed on</a> to direct <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space"><em>Dead Space</em></a>. Since then, we haven't heard much about the project -- a piece here; a small morsel there. An interview with <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTRyw2OM0-U&amp;hd=1&amp;t=1m26s">AreaGames</a> during a German press tour for <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1464540/">I Am Number Four</a>, Caruso's latest film, brings news that a big-screen adaptation of <em>Dead Space</em> is still very alive.<br />
<br />
"We're working on the story," Caruso said in the video interview, which you can see for yourself just past the break. "We had one attempt of trying to do a prequel, but the story didn't quite work out as well as we wanted it to. But if we can capture how -- I don't want to say, I guess, how scary or horrifying it would be to play that game because it's really, really fantastic. It'd be fun to make that into a movie." And we wouldn't mind seeing it, granted none of those crazy-scary Necromorph children from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space-2"><em>Dead Space 2</em></a> make their way into the film.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/dead-space-movie-still-in-production-caruso-toyed-around-with/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Space movie still in production, Caruso toyed around with 'a prequel'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/dead-space-movie-still-in-production-caruso-toyed-around-with/">Dead Space movie still in production, Caruso toyed around with 'a prequel'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Mar 2011 19:31:00 EST. <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118006507.html?categoryid=13&amp;cs=1&amp;nid=2564">Variety</a> reports "vidgame" (seriously, Variety, stop that!) <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/dead-game"><em>Dead Space</em></a> is going to the big screen under the watchful gaze of <em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1059786/">Eagle Eye</a></em> director D.J. Caruso. The producers and EA are currently talking to screenwriters and will then auction the movie to a studio. EA created a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/03/universal-wins-bidding-war-for-eas-dantes-inferno-movie-righ?icid=sphere_blogsmith_inpage_joystiq">bidding war</a> last year when it auctioned off <em>God of War</em>-esque <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/dantes-inferno">Dante's Inferno</a></em> -- even before it officially announced the game. The publisher also currently has <em>Sims, Army of Two </em>and<em> Mass Effect</em> movies in varying stages of development.<br />
<br />
The Variety piece also mentions that EA is "working on the second and third installments" of the <em>Dead Space</em> franchise. Although that can be interpreted to mean sequels to the main game, it could also mean <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-space-extraction/"><em>Extraction</em></a> and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/09/dead-space-2-development-reconfirmed-by-linkedin-profile/">expected sequel</a>. We're following up with Variety and EA for clarification and will update when we hear back.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/dead-space-being-directed-with-an-eagle-eye-by-d-j-caruso/">Dead Space being directed with an 'Eagle Eye' by D.J. In a season of Hollywood blockbusters, it's no wonder why Electronic Arts would want to sink its teeth into the movie industry's delicious celluloid pie. This morning the company announced that it signed with talent and literary agency, UTA, to help catapult its properties onto the silver screen. <br />
<br />
EA currently has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/the-sims-coming-to-the-big-screen-logic-be-damned/">a movie deal</a> in the works for <em>The Sims</em>, as well as plans to bring an animated version of <em>MySims </em>to TV. In addition, earlier this year EA <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/ea-starz-media-partner-for-dead-space-animated-prequel/">signed a deal with Starz Media</a> to develop an animated prequel to <em>Dead Space</em>, as well as other unspecified franchises. But that's just the tip of the iceberg, as EA notes that this new deal will "significantly ramp up" efforts to bring its IP to other forms of entertainment, such as movies and television, as well as online, print, and social networks. With some of these projects likely to surface this week in San Diego during Comic-Con, are there any EA properties you could see yourself sitting through with a bucket of popcorn in your lap?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/23/ea-inks-talent-agency-deal-more-game-movies-coming/">EA inks talent agency deal, more game movies coming</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Jul 2008 09:20:00 EST.
