Today only: Halo 3 Legendary for $60 on Amazon

Amazon.com's deal of the day is the Halo 3 Legendary Edition for $59.99 USD, making it the same price as the standard edition, and ten dollars cheaper than the Collector's Edition. The Legendary Edition includes three bonus discs of Halo-related content, as well as the Master Chief cat helmet scale replica helmet case.

To top it all off, Amazon is offering free shipping on the bundle. For sixty bucks -- less than half the bundle's original cost -- this is easily one of the best deals we've seen in a while. The offer is only good today, so if you've been holding off on that Halo 3 purchase for whatever reason, there are no more excuses.

Hell, even if you don't have an Xbox 360, this bundle might still be worth picking up, if only for the cat helmet.

Update: It seems that Halo 3 Legendary Edition is now completely sold out at Amazon. Condolences to those who weren't quick enough with their credit cards.

[Thanks to everyone that sent this in.]

CAG's Black Friday video game deals

We're nominating the fellas at Cheap Ass Gamer for sainthood. CheapyD and his loyal legion of bargain hunters have compiled a comprehensive list of video game deals for this coming Black Friday. While you stumble through your local strip mall in a tryptophan-fueled stupor, you absolutely must carry this veritable roadmap of penny-savers wherever you may go.

Some of the more eye-catching sales include: Guitar Hero II bundles for $60 at Meijer, K-Mart, Circuit City and Sears (or for free if you buy a Premium 360 at Best Buy), Super Mario Galaxy for $35 at Circuit City, free first-party controllers with purchase of a Premium 360 (with Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance packed in) or 40gb PS3 (with five free Blu-Ray movies with mail-in rebate) at Circuit City, and an incredible buy one get one free deal on KB Toys' entire video game stock.

A CAG login is required to view the list, so we recommend you start an account if you don't have one already so you can get the full list of sales. We didn't even breach the surface of the bargains that await you post-turkey day. Spoiler alert: Ninjabread Man for $14.99 at Toys R' Us. That's all we're saying.

KB Toys: DS/GBA games are buy one, get other 50% off

KB Toys is doing a better deal than what we've come to expect from Toys R Us by offering "buy one, get one 50% off" on all GBA and DS titles. CheapAssGamer has lead the way to the savings which can be found in-store only and end Oct. 30.

Now the key thing is just finding a store. Beyond that there are plenty of other toy related items part of the same deal (we just happen to focus on the video games). Could be an ideal time to get a little early holiday shopping done. Yup, it's almost that time.

Recent 360 and Live buyers get two free XBLA games

Microsoft offers two free Xbox Live Arcade games if you bought a 360 and Live account over the past year. Fill out a short registration form and enter code "XBX0807" to qualify. However, the site is cagey about which games you'll get. The terms and conditions state that you'll receive an email code by September 30 to download the titles, but the offer "will be for games selected by Microsoft."

360 fence-sitters still have until September 15 to buy the console and net the games. And the promotion includes buyers as far back as August 8, 2006. The wording sounds like Live account renewals don't qualify, but we still registered. We've contacted Microsoft for clarification but hadn't heard specifics when this post went live. We'll update you when we learn more.

[Update: Microsoft told us it hasn't announced which games you'll get and also stated that the promotion is for new Live accounts only. So officially at least, Live renewals get no love.]

Gamestop: $200 Wii with Gamecube trade-in

In a Nintendo-themed weekend circular, Gamestop is promising Wii-less Gamecubers a $50 credit towards the heretofore hard-to-find new-gen console. Make sure you've got a controller, the console, the power adapter, and the AV cables, and you've got yourself a deal. But the kkkkrazy deals don't stop there. Trade in that old GBA SP -- y'know the one you bought for $50 from a garage sale -- and get a $50 credit towards a new or used Nintendo DS (we imagine that includes Lites). This deal, coupled with circulars from some other retailers, appears to confirm that Nintendo's inscrutable shortages of both DS Lites and Wiis may be over starting Sunday. Who here's trading in their 'cube?

Black Friday megadeals for Xbox 360

Sister site Xbox 360 Fanboy got the goods on some upcoming Black Friday deals yesterday. For those of you who may not know, Black Friday (so very appropriately named) is the Friday immediately after Thanksgiving, when stores feature gargantuan sales in an effort to suck shoppers in and kick-start the Christmas shopping season.

Best Buy is having an $18.99 sale featuring:
  • Amped 3
  • Condemned
  • NBA Live '06
  • Rockstar Games Presents: Table Tennis
  • The Outfit (apparently you can score this one for only $9.99 if you buy it in-store before noon)
Circuit City offers a different set at $16.99:
  • Full Auto
  • Gun
  • Perfect Dark Zero
  • Quake 4
  • Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
Our advice is to call the stores to find out if these deals will be available online and stay inside. Black Friday is normally a hellish experience with a lot of pushing, shoving and greed. In fact, we're surprised Rockstar hasn't made a video game version yet.

Your mission: take out other shoppers before they can get your sale items.

Get Edge in the U.S. cheap(er)

Among video game magazines, Britain's Edge stands head and shoulders above all competitors. The magazine's intelligent editorial voice, interesting features, and excellent layout/presentation made it well worth tracking down every month at your local bookstore. Subscribing was never really in the cards for us Yanks, though, as the exorbitant international direct subscription price of roughly $118 (62.02 pounds) per year was actually more expensive than the roughly $9/issue they charge on the U.S. newsstands (Amazon is charging an even more ridiculous $153.05 for a year-long subscription).

American fans of good game journalism can rest easy, though, as Edge has now set up a new subscription system especially for the U.S., complete with a lower subscription price of $75 per year. That's still a bit steep (especially considering mags like EGM practically give their subscriptions away) but at least now there's a pricing incentive to reserve a year's worth of issues (getting two years for $135 is an even better deal). All this and subscribers get a free T-shirt! Score!
