In addition to officially revealing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/25/puzzle-quest-2-and-ancients-of-ooga-hit-xbla-june-30/">next week's XBLA offerings</a>, Major Nelson has also laid out Xbox Live Marketplace schedule for the rest of June, including the Deal of the Week, Games on Demand and Avatar Marketplace. The Deal of the Week -- or Deals of the Week, rather -- takes the spotlight, with several decent titles on sale. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/Darwinia-Plus"><em>Darwinia+</em></a> will be marked down to 800 points ($10), while <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/defense-grid"><em>Defense Grid</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/misadventures-of-pb-winterbottom"><em>PB Winterbottom</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rocket-riot"><em>Rocket Riot</em></a> and <em>Poker Smash</em> will all be marked down to 400 points ($5). Also, the OneBigGame charity project, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/chime"><em>Chime</em></a>, will be reduced to a puny 240 points ($3).<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, both <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/tomb-raider-underworld"><em>Tomb Raider Underworld</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/command-and-conquer-3-tiberium-wars"><em>Command &amp; Conquer 3</em></a> will hit Games on Demand on June 29, and some <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/crackdown-2"><em>Crackdown 2</em></a> Avatar items will be released on July 1.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/26/cheap-defense-grid-winterbottom-and-more-on-xblm-next-week/">Cheap Defense Grid, Winterbottom and more on XBLM next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Jun 2010 06:00:00 EST. "Hey Ricky, what are you downloading?"<br />
<br />
"Oh, what's up, Mitch? Check it out, I found a place on the 360 Dashboard where you can get the Resurgence Pack for $4!"<br />
<br />
"Wow, that's a pretty great deal!"<br />
<br />
"Yeah, the only catch is they're only releasing one pair of maps per week for $0.99 a piece."<br />
<br />
"...But that equals eight maps. I thought they were only adding five maps to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/modern-warfare-2"><em>Modern Warfare 2</em></a>."<br />
<br />
"Well, the <em>other</em> only catch is that they don't work with <em>Modern Warfare 2</em>, because they're actually maps for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/defense-grid"><em>Defense Grid</em></a> that just happen to -- purely by coincidence, I'm sure -- be called the <a href="http://www.hiddenpath.com/node/982">Resurgence packs</a>."<br />

No joke -- several <em>solid</em> Xbox Live Arcade titles have been temporarily <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/04/01/xbox-live-arcade-inventory-blowout-sale.aspx">discounted</a>, most by 50 percent, today through April 7. A few of the notable victims of this price slaughter include:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix</em> ($7) -- 53% off</li>
    <li><em>Lumines LIVE</em> ($5) -- 50% off</li>
    <li><em>South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play!</em> ($5) -- 50% off</li>
</ul>

<a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2010/03/23/xbox-live-marketplace-release-schedule-march-23.aspx">Major Nelson</a> has dropped a new <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xblm">Xbox Live Marketplace</a> schedule for the remainder of March and beginning of April and, while we knew about most of the major releases already, there's still some surprises to be found. First, the next two weeks will see some nice Deal of the Week promotions, with <em>Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram</em> falling to 800<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10) and <em>Geometry Wars 2</em> dropping to a paltry 400<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($5).<br />
<br />
Beyond that, Xbox Live Silver members will also be able to enjoy free Xbox Live Gold -- including online multiplayer, Netflix, last.fm, Facebook and Twitter -- from noon ET on April 1 through noon ET on April 5. And, as if all that wasn't enough, Major announced that ten Xbox Live Arcade games will go on sale from April 1 through April 7. The full list of games hasn't been announced, though it will include <em>Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix</em>, <em>South Park</em> and <em>Defense Grid</em>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-wars"><strong><span style="font-style: italic;">Halo Wars</span></strong></a><br />
Yeah, that's right, <span style="font-style: italic;">Halo Wars</span>. I've already caught enough flak for putting this on my best-of list for 2009 (it's hard to even remember that it came out way back in February), but it deserves to be recognized ... so pay attention once your laughter has died down. Ensemble Studios (RIP) proved that you could bring a real-time strategy game to a console, and still make it enjoyable. Sure, you'll never have 1:1 parity mapping everything a full-sized keyboard offers onto a controller, but this game came close. It's a pity Ensemble closed, since we'll never see any expansion packs or a sequel. The good news is that, since it wasn't received with blaring trumpets and the sounds of cash registers ringing, you can pick this up for under 20 bucks for some good fun.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-kevins-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Kevin's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-kevins-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Kevin's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 02 Jan 2010 23:00:00 EST. It features pirate ships, monkeys, mines, treasure, and plenty of sea battles. This week's XBLA offerings are a pair of 800<span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10)</span> titles, reports <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2009/08/31/this-week-on-arcade-defense-grid-amp-yo-ho-kablamo.aspx">Major Nelson</a>: <em><a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/d/defensegridxboxlivearcade/">Defense Grid: The Awakening</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/y/yohokablammoxbla/"><em>Yo-Ho KaBlammo</em></a>. Each title is a bit heavy on the combat, with <em>Defense Grid</em> offering plenty of tower defense action, and <em>Yo-Ho KaBlammo</em> taking to the seas for some free-for-all naval combat. That sounds all well and good, but whatever happened to killing 'em with kindness? What would Gandhi say?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/31/this-wednesday-defense-grid-awakens-yo-ho-kablammo-on-xbla/">This Wednesday: Defense Grid awakens Yo-Ho KaBlammo on XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 31 Aug 2009 14:51:00 EST. Developer <a href="http://www.hiddenpath.com/node/331">Hidden Path</a> has shown the way to <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/defense-grid-the-awakening-coming-to-xbla-this-summer/">Defense Grid: The Awakening</a></em>'s release: it hits XBLA on September 2. The tower defense title was well received in its PC incarnation and will cost 800<span class="album_title"><img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10) on the console.</span><br /><br />The Xbox version of the game includes the <em>Borderlands</em> (not be confused with <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/borderlands">the other <em>Borderlands</em></a>) mission pack, along with a few new challenge modes. The game already comes with a full campaign and what appears to be a significant amount of content for the price.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/">Defense Grid: The Awakening</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/#1007540"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/cdefgrid_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/#1007539"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/12defgrid_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/#1007538"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/ddefgrid_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/#1007537"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/adefgrid_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/#1007536"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/edefgrid_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/defense-grid-given-xbla-date">Eurogamer</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/25/defense-grid-protects-xbla-sept-2/">Defense Grid protects XBLA on Sept. 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Aug 2009 15:30:00 EST. The personal com-pu-ter's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/defense-grid"><em>Defense Grid: The Awakening</em></a> will make its way to Xbox Live Arcade in <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59666">late summer</a>. Developer Hidden Path's tower defense game was <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/defensegridtheawakening?q=defense%20grid">well received</a> after release and even made our "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/01/best-of-the-rest-kevins-picks-of-2008/">best of the rest</a>" list last year. There's currently no price for the game, but hopefully it won't follow the path of the <span class="album_title">1200<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($15) trend.<br /><br />If you're not looking forward on waiting -- or simply can't be bothered with "patience" -- for <em>Defense Grid</em> or <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/south-park">South Park</a> </em>for your tower defense kick, there's always <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/11/x3f-tv-xbla-in-brief-crystal-defenders-peggle/">Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders</a></em>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-xbla/">Defense Grid: XBLA</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-xbla/#2165438"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/defgridvid2-26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-xbla/#2165437"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/defgridvid2-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-xbla/#2165436"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/defgridvid2-20_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-xbla/#2165435"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/defgridvid2-09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/defense-grid-the-awakening-coming-to-xbla-this-summer/">Defense Grid: The Awakening coming to XBLA this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Jul 2009 15:45:00 EST. <strong><em>Boom Blox</em></strong><br />
My Wii gathered so many cobwebs this year that it looked like it was a prop from a creepy old Boris Karloff movie. The phenomenon of <em>Wii Fit</em> had me dust it off and breathed some new life into it for a few days, but before long it was relegated back to its hiding space under the couch. That is until <em>Boom Blox</em> slid smoothly into the disc slot. Two days later, I could barely move my right arm due to my newfound obsession, and I still fire it up on a regular basis just to hurl balls at Jenga towers.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/01/best-of-the-rest-kevins-picks-of-2008/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Kevin's Picks of 2008</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/01/best-of-the-rest-kevins-picks-of-2008/">Best of the Rest: Kevin's Picks of 2008</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Jan 2009 18:00:00 EST. <div align="left">I have to confess this right off the bat: I don't have a high end PC gaming rig. Heck, I don't even have a PC, I use a Mac. Sure, I could load Boot Camp on this thing, but frankly my hard drive is far too crammed with music, photos, and scant room for anything gaming related. I even had to delete my free copy of the "Chess" app to make room for more.<br /></div>
</div>
<div align="left"><br />However, that is going to have to change. Early this morning I spent some quality hands-on time with <em>Defense Grid: The Awakening</em>. It's a tower defense game that starts out fairly easy, and then quickly gets hard. In fact, I had my ass handed to me pretty squarely when I tried out the "hard" level, and I'm going to have to grab a PC to game on so I can beat the damn thing. They have an Xbox 360 version in the works, but it will come out some time after. Check out the gallery of screenshots below, including two new exclusives, and then hit the break to find out more about the game.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/">Defense Grid: The Awakening</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/#1007540"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/cdefgrid_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/#1007539"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/12defgrid_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/#1007538"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/ddefgrid_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/#1007537"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/adefgrid_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/defense-grid-the-awakening/#1007536"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/edefgrid_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/30/pax-2008-hands-on-defense-grid-the-awakening/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PAX 2008 hands-on: Defense Grid: The Awakening</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/30/pax-2008-hands-on-defense-grid-the-awakening/">PAX 2008 hands-on: Defense Grid: The Awakening</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Aug 2008 11:00:00 EST. The same <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2008/feb08/02-203602008PortfolioPR.mspx" style="">Microsoft press release</a> that held the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/gdc08-castle-crashers-crash-lands-this-summer/">Castle Crashers release info</a> also had other XBLA titles on the summer release list. These games were as follows: <br /><br /><em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braid_%28video_game%29">Braid</a></em>, a platformer, <em><a href="http://www.hiddenpath.com/">Defense Grid: The Awakening</a></em>, a tower-defense game, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/18/gdc08-impressions-go-go-break-steady/">Go! Go! Break Steady!</a></em>, a music rythm game, and finally there's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/28/pax-07-penny-arcade-adventures-to-xbla/">Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness</a></em>, Penny-Arcade's RPG adventure game. Whew. With so much good content seeing release this summer (<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/gdc08-ninja-gaiden-iis-ninja-cinema-and-a-june-release/">Ninja Gaiden II</a></em>) here's hoping we'll be able to find time to play these games, as some (if not all) of these hold real promise.<br /><br />The descriptions from the press release after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/gdc08-more-xbla-titles-on-track-for-summer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GDC08: More XBLA titles on track for summer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/gdc08-more-xbla-titles-on-track-for-summer/">GDC08: More XBLA titles on track for summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Feb 2008 18:00:00 EST.
