It's what came to mind after our pals at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/02/microsoft-patent-wearable-emg-device/">Engadget</a> discovered <a href="http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-adv.htm&amp;r=43&amp;p=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;d=PTXT&amp;S1=%2820120501.PD.+AND+Microsoft.ASNM.%29&amp;OS=ISD/20120501+AND+AN/Microsoft&amp;RS=%28ISD/20120501+AND+AN/Microsoft%29">a Microsoft patent</a> for an EMG (electromyography) device.<br /><br />The patent calls it the "Wearable Electromyography-Based Controller," which would potentially allow users to control their devices (smartphone, computer and the like) through movement - the device would monitor muscle movement, either through a wireless or wired connection. The patent suggests a variety of different devices on Microsoft's mind: the armband seen above; a shirt (smartshirt, we like to call it); and even a pair of sunglasses, though they appear less badass and expensive than Adam Jensen's or, heck, even the shades JC Denton rocks in the original <em>Deus Ex</em>.<br /><br />We just hope one of those EMG devices has a built-in niceness chip, to prevent future cyber-people from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/29/adam-jensen-really-wants-his-mirror-replaced/">freaking out over tiny problems</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/03/microsoft-patent-brings-us-one-step-closer-to-real-life-deus-ex/">Microsoft patent brings us one step closer to real-life Deus Ex</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 May 2012 02:00:00 EST. The Standard Edition of the cyber stealth thriller is $6.99, while the Augmented Edition, which includes art book and soundtrack, is a dollar more for $7.99.<br /><br />Also on discount is <em>Dungeon Siege 3</em>, which has reviews that start in the <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/dungeon-siege-iii/critic-reviews">80s and go south from there</a> (we thought it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/21/dungeon-siege-3-review/#review">good</a>), but for $5 it's not a heavy investment to try out for yourself.<br /><br />PC players who are interested in further discounts should check out Amazon's new "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/dealsvote">Weekly Deal Vote</a>." PC titles were recently added and the hive mind decides what game will drop to $5 next week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/30/deus-ex-human-revolution-dungeon-siege-3-pc-deeply-discounted/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dungeon Siege 3 PC deeply discounted on Amazon this week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Apr 2012 14:30:00 EST. Users have complained of in-game stuttering, even with lowered graphical settings, and say these issue have persisted since launch.<br /><br />Threads on the <a href="http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2075294">Steam</a> and <a href="http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=119684">Eidos</a> forums have languished since being posted in August, with no official response from Eidos despite each still being active with user complaints. We've contacted Square Enix, who <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/27/eidos-stays-independent-following-square-enix-acquisition/">acquired Eidos</a> back in 2009, to find out if there are any plans to address ongoing complaints.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/01/deus-ex-human-revolution-pc-players-complain-of-stuttering-req/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution PC players complain of stuttering, request patch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Mar 2012 03:45:00 EST. There's also some attempted discounts on full downloads of <em>Battlestations: Pacific</em>, <em>Just Cause 2</em> and <em>Tomb Raider: Underworld</em>; but chances are you can find better in your local bargain bin.<br /><br />Another game worth checking out is updated original <em>Tomb Raider: Legend: Anniversary</em>, available in two chunks at 400 MSP ($5) apiece (caveat is you'll need to own <em>TR: Legend</em> since it's the DLC). So, try the first two levels before you buy the whole thing. Find the full list of discounts after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/08/big-square-enix-xbox-marketplace-sale-includes-deus-ex-lara-cro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Big Square Enix Xbox Marketplace sale includes Deus Ex, Lara Croft</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/08/big-square-enix-xbox-marketplace-sale-includes-deus-ex-lara-cro/">Big Square Enix Xbox Marketplace sale includes Deus Ex, Lara Croft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Feb 2012 08:30:00 EST. Games now comprise 56 percent of Square Enix's total revenue, where in the same period of 2010 they made up just 52 percent.<br /><br />The company's operating profit rose 11.5 percent to $169.4 million and its net income ended at $65 million, up 175.2 percent from the previous period. <em>Skyrim</em> is going to get tons of accolades all over this year, and deservedly so, but <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> pulled me into its world more effectively than any other game in 2011.<br />
<br />
It didn't do everything right. Obviously, there were the boss battles. They required a narrow combat approach, playing to some of <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution's</em> weakest elements. But those encounters were only disappointing insofar as they contradicted the fluidity of gameplay styles and approaches the rest of <em>Human Revolution</em> offered.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/03/joystiq-top-10-of-2011-deus-ex-human-revolution/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Top 10 of 2011: Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/03/joystiq-top-10-of-2011-deus-ex-human-revolution/">Joystiq Top 10 of 2011: Deus Ex: Human Revolution</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Jan 2012 20:45:00 EST. The AP has unleashed its list of top ten games this year and ... it's a pretty competent list. Not only did <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/bastion"><em>Bastion</em></a> make the cut, but so did <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a> and, as you may have guessed from the headline to this very post, <em>Portal 2</em>.<br />
<br />
Valve's game took top honors, followed by <em>Skyrim</em> and then <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em>. Rounding out the top five are <em>Bastion</em> and Rocksteady's sequel, <em>Batman: Arkham City</em>. In a year so full of great games, we envy <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/portal-2-skyrim-top-thrilling-games-122355168.html">AP's finished list</a> -- for us, the work of choosing our favorite games of 2011 is only about to begin.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/20/portal-2-crowned-best-game-of-2011-by-the-associated-press/">Portal 2 crowned best game of 2011 by the Associated Press</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Dec 2011 19:00:00 EST. Investing in ostentatious sword-arms is a lot easier today, with Steam chopping 50 percent off the price of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> in its Autumn Sale. That lowers it to $24.99, alongside <em>The Missing Link</em> DLC -- also discounted to $7.49.<br />
<br />
<em>Dead Island</em> receives its own dramatic reversal in price ($24.99), as does Telltale's <em>Back to the Future</em> series ($9.99). The <em>Serious Sam HD</em> double pack is quite the temptation at $2.99, but we've vowed to do something more constructive this weekend. Why not administer intravenous therapy to an ailing patrician for <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/57620/?snr=1_4_4__617">$6.79</a>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/25/steam-autumn-sale-deus-ex-dead-island-half-off/">Steam Autumn Sale: Deus Ex, Dead Island half off</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Nov 2011 13:44:00 EST. Following the strong reception of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution">Deus Ex: Human Revolution</a></em>, one report indicated Square Enix planned to expand developer Eidos Montreal by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/01/report-square-enix-to-expand-eidos-montreal-add-350-employees/">as many as 350 additional employees</a>, while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/16/square-enix-planning-new-canadian-studio-for-2012/">earlier reports suggested</a> that Square would establish a new studio elsewhere in Canada in 2012. Turns out, both were half right. Square Enix announced today plans to add 250 new jobs in Canada, with 100 going to the team at Eidos Montreal, and 150 being dedicated to a new studio named, cleverly enough, Square Enix Montreal.<br />
<br />
The 100 new employees at Eidos Montreal will be "driving work on a third AAA project at the studio" alongside the existing Deus Ex and Thief franchises, while the "first project at Square Enix Montr&eacute;al will be to work on a new premium quality game in the award-winning Hitman franchise," adding a second studio to augment Copenhagen-based IO Interactive's work on the series.<br />
<br />
The new studio will be under the guidance of general manager Lee Singleton, who's "been leading Square Enix London Studios, a UK-based team which focuses on shaping and bringing to market great games from some of the world's most talented independent development teams." Those games include <em>Just Cause 2</em> and <em>Batman: Arkham Asylum</em> which you've probably never heard of.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/square-enix-montreal-opening-in-2012-working-on-hitman-eidos-m/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Square Enix Montreal opening in 2012, working on Hitman; Eidos Montreal adds 100, working on 'third AAA project'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/square-enix-montreal-opening-in-2012-working-on-hitman-eidos-m/">Square Enix Montreal opening in 2012, working on Hitman; Eidos Montreal adds 100, working on 'third AAA project'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Nov 2011 11:30:00 EST. Amazon's running a pretty enticing promotion well before the Black Friday onslaught begins. If you've had your eye on a collector's edition version of a recent game, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Outlet/b?ie=UTF8&amp;plgroup=1&amp;node=409566&amp;ref_=amb_link_358785122_2&amp;_encoding=UTF8&amp;tag=thrinerd-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957">Amazon</a>'s probably got it discounted right now. Square Enix's revolution was successful, so grab your metal limbs and augmented-reality eye implants -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> sold 2.18 million copies across all platforms, Square's bi-annual fiscal report says. Just 800,000 of that total was sold in the U.S., while <em>Human Revolution</em> sold 1.38 million copies across Europe. Which means only one thing: Europe is prepared for the future, while the U.S. remains blissfully unaware of the impending transhumanist movement. Which side of the electrified fence do you want to be on?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dungeon-siege-3"><em>Dungeon Siege 3 </em></a>sold better in Europe as well, racking 480,000 sales, while the U.S. bought 320,000 and Japan a mere 20,000. When the transdragonists begin to rain neon hellfire from above, we'll know where to go.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/05/deus-ex-human-revolution-sales-show-who-will-dominate-in-the-cy/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution sales show who will dominate in the cyborg future</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 Nov 2011 13:30:00 EST. Even though the recent release of "The Missing Link" DLC featured <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/26/deus-ex-dlc-fixes-boss-fights-well-at-least-this-one/">a more appropriate boss encounter</a>, the majority of <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em>'s boss fights force players to forgo whichever strategy they employed throughout the game and, you know, just shoot 'em in the face. Unless that <em>is</em> your strategy, in which case all we have to say is: <em>you monster</em>.<br />
<br />
Eidos Montr&eacute;al producer David Anfossi told <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/news/eidos-montreal-admits-deus-ex-boss-error">Edge</a> that farming out the boss fights to Grip Entertainment was a mistake -- not because Grip failed, but because the implementation and design of boss encounters was poor. "We knew that it would be a weakness for the game, that we had to make a compromise to deliver it [on] two levels. First, the boss fights were forced, which is not the <em>Deus Ex</em> experience. Second, there is no mix [of] solutions to tackle the boss fights, which is not <em>Deus Ex </em>either. We knew that before the release of the game, but there had to be some compromise. It [was] our decision."<br />
<br />
That's not to say Anfossi isn't proud of <em>Deus Ex</em> -- he's quite content with the hacking, stealth, social and combat aspects of the game -- but if he had a chance to do it all again, he'd handle the boss fights differently rather than taking them out entirely. "There are two options: no boss fights, or do boss fights correctly. I'm pretty sure that now we have the knowledge to do it correctly."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/eidos-montreal-fesses-up-to-poor-boss-fights-in-deus-ex-human-r/">Eidos Montreal fesses up to poor boss fights in Deus Ex: Human Revolution</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Nov 2011 08:40:00 EST. Square Enix issued a change to its most recent six-month forecast of earnings, now that it's had the benefit of actually experiencing those six months (April-September 2011). That has a tendency to make predictions a bit more accurate.<br />
<br />
The revision is a slight increase in net sales, from &yen;56 billion ($718 million) to &yen;57 billion ($730 million), and a whopping 146.7% increase in net income. These increases come thanks to the success of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> and "increased billing revenue" from web, social, and mobile games.<br />
<br />
Thanks to the unusually strong yen, Square Enix had the misfortune of marking an additional "foreign exchange loss" of &yen;2.1 billion ($27 million). That's a lot of money to just have disappear.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Square has posted its <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/square-enix-holdings-co-ltd-reports-financial-results-for-the-six-month-period-ended-september-30-2011-133218683.html">official results</a> and the predictions, unsurprisingly, were right on the money. Net sales reached &yen;57.5 billion and net income of &yen;3.7 billion ($47.4 million).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/02/deus-ex-boosts-square-enixs-half-year-forecast/">Deus Ex boosts Square Enix's half-year forecast [update: official results posted]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Nov 2011 10:39:00 EST. The transhumanism revolution sounds like electric raindrops falling across the desolate graveyard of our flesh-and-bone forefathers, backlit by the rumble of two giant clockwork cogs rotating slowly against one another. Or it's an elongated mix of Daft Punk's <em>Tron</em> and Tyler Bates' <em>300</em> soundtracks -- you can decide for yourself what the sound of cyberkinetics truly is when the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> original soundtrack drops on Nov. 15 in physical and digital forms.<br />
<br />
Composer Michael McCann wrote almost 200 pieces for <em>Human Revolution</em>, which have been arranged into a 25-song tracklist representing the "arc of the game's story," McCann said. See below for the official list, listen to a taste of the game's music style above, and prepare your fleshy human eardrums for some serious cyborg tunage in November.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/28/deus-ex-human-revolution-soundtrack-to-install-in-your-aural-or/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack to install in your aural orifices Nov. 15</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/28/deus-ex-human-revolution-soundtrack-to-install-in-your-aural-or/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack to install in your aural orifices Nov. 15</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Oct 2011 14:55:00 EST. <em>Deus Ex</em>-cellent DLC "The Missing Link" is available today for PC, Xbox 360 and, once the update occurs later today, PSN. The five- to six-hour campaign finds augmented security agent Adam Jensen on a mother lovin' boat, but not the kind you see in rap videos. Check out our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-review/">review</a> to find out what you'll receive for $15.</div>

For those who haven't picked up the game of the year contender yet, Amazon and Steam have some significant discounts on the game for a limited time. On PC, Valve's platform has the title at <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/28050">25 percent off for $37.49</a> as part of its "midweek madness" sale, while Amazon's downloadable version is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Deus-Ex-Revolution-Standard-Download/dp/B005HRZ29K/ref=amb_link_357803702_5?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_s=center-6&amp;pf_rd_r=0G3PEHBAVBPS24TC9F55&amp;pf_rd_t=1401&amp;pf_rd_p=1324910162&amp;pf_rd_i=1000208101">40 percent off and $29.99</a>. Console owners can grab <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em> for $36 from Amazon as part of the site's "deal of the week" promotion.<br />

As grim as Adam Jensen's predicament is in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-missing-link">The Missing Link</a>, which sees him captured aboard a militaristic ship and stripped of his defining augmentations, it's easy to envision more inhospitable scenarios. An informed nemesis would solder shut every air vent, train his minions to peek around corners, and make sure that pocket secretaries stayed in their damn pockets. But where would our protagonists be if not for life-saving conveniences and bouts of enemy ineptitude?<br />
<br />
That's why it shouldn't surprise you to learn that Adam quickly makes his escape and becomes involved in a new mini conspiracy, adequately shaped for what feels like a condensed run through <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>. As before, you'll start out weak and inclined to move stealthily, and eventually shape yourself biologically to accommodate new tactics. What <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Missing Link</em> provides in its narrative isolation is a creeping tension and a sense of uncertainty.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-10-14-11/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Missing Link (10/14/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-10-14-11/#4526360"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/dxhrmlbelltowerroom_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-10-14-11/#4526361"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/dxhrmlcorridorfighting_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-10-14-11/#4526362"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/dxhrmlentrance_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-10-14-11/#4526363"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/dxhrmloperation_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-10-14-11/#4526364"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/dxhrmlthecube_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Missing Link review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-review/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Missing Link review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Oct 2011 11:31:00 EST. The <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em> soundtrack is currently listed on Amazon with a November 15 release date and $12.95 price. Publisher Square Enix informs us that official details on other retailers providing the soundtrack should be available later this week.<br />
<br />
The soundtrack was previously available in the "Augmented Edition" of the game, with a slight <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/16/deus-ex-augmented-edition-soundtrack-solution-found-for-north/">hiccup on the PS3 version</a>. The <em>Deus Ex </em>conspiracy deepens when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-missing-link/">The Missing Link DLC</a> augments the known story line later this month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/11/deus-ex-human-revolution-soundtrack-available-on-amazon-nov-15/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack available on Amazon Nov. 15</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 20:15:00 EST. Eidos Montreal is so eager to prove that the <i>"</i>The Missing Link" offers a substantial, challenging addition to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>, it'll let someone play a tiny bit of the DLC for you before it drops later this month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/10/take-a-walk-through-deus-ex-human-revolutions-missing-link-dlc/">Take a walk through Deus Ex: Human Revolution's Missing Link DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Oct 2011 16:50:00 EST. The retailer has also updated its Deals of the Week, which are pretty interesting this time. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex</em></a> is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/s//ref=amb_link_357580242_6?ie=UTF8&amp;search-alias=videogames&amp;hidden-keywords=B002I0JA7E%7CB002I0K5NC%7CB004EINB0U%7CB004EIQ7F6&amp;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_s=center-6&amp;pf_rd_r=0HA7ZRSTHSHEMH7565GW&amp;pf_rd_t=1401&amp;pf_rd_p=1319793802&amp;pf_rd_i=1000208101">$39.99</a> on Xbox 360 or PS3 all week (the Augmented Edition is $50); <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dungeon-siege-3"><em>Dungeon Siege 3</em></a> is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/s//ref=amb_link_357580242_1?ie=UTF8&amp;search-alias=videogames&amp;hidden-keywords=B002I0JJAW%7CB003O6G1L4%7CB003O6E9EK&amp;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_s=center-6&amp;pf_rd_r=0HA7ZRSTHSHEMH7565GW&amp;pf_rd_t=1401&amp;pf_rd_p=1319793802&amp;pf_rd_i=1000208101">$29.99</a> on Xbox 360 and PS3, and $19.99 on PC; and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dead-island"><em>Dead Island</em></a> is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/s//ref=amb_link_357580242_12?ie=UTF8&amp;search-alias=videogames&amp;hidden-keywords=B004PAGJOC|B004PAGJNS|B004PAGJMO&amp;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_s=center-6&amp;pf_rd_r=0HA7ZRSTHSHEMH7565GW&amp;pf_rd_t=1401&amp;pf_rd_p=1319793802&amp;pf_rd_i=1000208101">$45.99</a> on Xbox and PS3, and 36.99 on PC. As much as we loved <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>, we weren't crazy about being wedged into an irritating shootout whenever a boss reared its cyber-head. While we tried to roleplay as The Rock in <em>The Rundown</em> (you know, vow against guns, relying on our brains and fists), <em>Human Revolution</em> seemed intent on turning us into The Rock in -- well, pretty much every other movie he's in ... and the end of <em>The Rundown</em>, come to think of it.<br />
<br />
Eurogamer reports that all changes in DLC "The Missing Link," which Eidos Montreal developed totally in-house, rather than (as in the case of <em>Human Revolution</em>) farming boss battles out to another studio. Missing Link producer Marc-Andre Dufort said, "You can actually not kill the boss. You can do a non-lethal takedown on him. And you can kill him from afar. You can even kill him without him seeing you. It's more of a bigger challenge than a standard boss fight like we have in many games."<br />
<br />
Fine, Mr. Dufort. But will we be able to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqnjK79fGSw">steal their teeth while they are asleep</a>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/26/deus-ex-dlc-fixes-boss-fights-well-at-least-this-one/">Deus Ex DLC fixes boss fights (well, at least this one)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Sep 2011 11:35:00 EST. <br />
I'm not sure if <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution's</em> first add-on, "The Missing Link", could have stumbled into view more clumsily than it did. A sort of alternate reality game revealed its existence, but clever players figured out more than Square-Enix and Eidos Montreal bargained for, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/02/deus-ex-website-rss-reveals-missing-link-dlc-details/">leaking the premise</a> and "The Missing Link's" primary gameplay conceit without any sort of context. It really hurt the general excitement levels for one of the most well-received games of the year.<br />
<br />
I'm here to give you that context. And I might just be here to give you back some of that <em>general excitement</em> too. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-dlc/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution (The Missing Link DLC)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-dlc/#4474630"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/dxhrtmltubular_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-dlc/#4474631"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/dxhrtmltyphoonturret_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-dlc/#4474632"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/dxhrtmlupsidedown_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/23/finding-the-missing-link-in-deus-exs-first-dlc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Finding The Missing Link in Deus Ex's First DLC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/23/finding-the-missing-link-in-deus-exs-first-dlc/">Finding The Missing Link in Deus Ex's First DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 23 Sep 2011 12:38:00 EST. Zombie RPG <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dead-island"><em>Dead Island</em></a> continues feasting on money and tourists in its second week atop the UK all formats sales chart. <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1176&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a> notes (to the surprise of no one) that Deep Silver's two weeks of <em>Dead Island</em> sales have eclipsed the lifetime sales of any other title in the publisher's catalog. That includes and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/naild" style="font-style: italic; ">Nail'd</a> and <em>Prison Break: The Conspiracy</em>.<br />
<br />
Another unexpected development on the charts: <em>Warhammer 40K Space Marine</em> maintained its second place position again this past week. Despite a 52 percent drops in sales, the Emperor's fist kept the aliens of <em>Resistance 3</em> in third.<br />
<br />
The only "new" title to break the Top 40 last week was <em>God of War Collection Volume 2,</em> which bludgeoned everything below the 35th spot. Price promotions moved <em>Red Faction: Armageddon</em> up 246 percent into 11th, while Kinect's <em>Rise of Nightmares</em> had a better second week, running up from 37th place to 18th.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/19/dead-island-warhammer-40k-space-marine-continue-fight-atop-uk/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Island, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine continue fight atop UK charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/19/dead-island-warhammer-40k-space-marine-continue-fight-atop-uk/">Dead Island, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine continue fight atop UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Sep 2011 09:30:00 EST. <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em>'s "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/30/deus-ex-human-revolution-augmented-edition-and-pre-order-pack/">Augmented Edition</a>" for PS3 accidentally had the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/07/deus-ex-augmented-edition-blu-ray-soundtrack-issue-solution-in/">game's soundtrack on a Blu-ray disc</a>, but customers in North American can now obtain an MP3 version from publisher Square Enix.<br />
<br />
Square Enix contacted us this afternoon with instructions on how "Augmented Edition" purchasers can obtain a digital copy of the soundtrack by <a href="http://release.square-enix.com/na/2011/09/16_01.html">contacting customer support</a>. After proving proof of purchase, the user will receive a "time-limited redemption download link" by email. If they enter the wrong code, a stealth operative will back-hack their computer and upload the <em>Jersey Shore</em> soundtrack. (No, not really. <em>God</em>, you're gullible.)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/16/deus-ex-augmented-edition-soundtrack-solution-found-for-north/">Deus Ex 'Augmented Edition' soundtrack solution found for North America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Sep 2011 19:50:00 EST. If, while playing the PC version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>, your heads-up display inexplicably disappeared, don't worry! Your techno-magical eyeballs haven't fallen out of your cyberhead -- that was a bug in the programming (the game's, not Adam's) which was fixed by a patch that recently launched on <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/news/6272/">Steam</a>.<br />
<br />
Other fixes in the update include a remedy for a plethora of crashes, frame-stuttering issues and an option to skip the logo screens whenever you start up the game. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> plays host to a wide assortment of advertisements for fictional future-products (like robot eyes and face-installed sunglasses) -- but the game now sports a promo for a real-life, purchasable <em>thing</em>. The game's loading screen occasionally includes a tiny banner announcing the launch of the <em>Star Wars </em>Blu-ray trilogy, as seen in the corner of the image posted above.<br />
<br />
Some of the billboards built into the game's environment are equipped to sport <a href="http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/08/22/deus-ex-human-revolution-has-in-game-advertising/">dynamic advertisements</a>, but we haven't noticed anything as unsubtle as this. We suppose it could be worse! The advertisement could just pop up during a climactic boss battle. Or Darth Vader could just make a totally out-of-place cameo in one of Detroit's seedy alleyways. Actually, no, wait. That would be <em>rad</em>.<br />

In the future, the world is split between augmented superhumans and boring, meat-based humans. In the present, our technological distinctions are a little more pedestrian: Xbox or PS3? Mac or PC? While the former has already been addressed by the multiplatform release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>, the latter is a decidedly PC-only affair.<br />
<br />
But like the original <em>Deus Ex</em>, which was ported to Mac OS shortly after its release, <em>Human Revolution</em> will enjoy a Mac OS release courtesy of the good people at Feral Interactive sometime this "winter 2011/12." Specifics on pricing, date, and system requirements will be announced "later this year."<br />
<br />
Eidos Montreal general manager Stephane D'Astous says, "We are delighted to partner with Feral, a leading expert in development for the Mac platform, to bring the acclaimed <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em> to Mac players." With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/deus-ex-human-revolution-ships-2-million-units/">two million units already shipped</a>, a Mac release should help Eidos Montreal's surprise hit find an even larger audience.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/12/deus-ex-human-revolution-coming-to-mac-this-winter-2011-12/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution coming to Mac this 'winter 2011/12'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Sep 2011 09:45:00 EST. Love it or leave it zombie RPG <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dead-island"><em>Dead Island</em></a> has consumed the top of the UK sales chart in its debut week. Another premiere expounded righteous force for the Emperor: <em>Warhammer 40K: Space Marine</em>. <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1176&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a> notes the PC sales for <em>Space Marine</em> were actually higher than <em>Dead Island</em>, which it believes is due to the former not being available on UK's Steam at launch.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://joystiq.com/game/driver-san-francisco"><em>Driver: San Francisco</em></a> shifted down into third in its second week on the charts, while <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resistance-3"><em>Resistance 3 </em></a>invaded the UK, nabbing fourth place in its first week available. <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em>, currently in fifth, is doing its part to suppress the <em>Zumba Fitness</em> conspiracy, by keeping the dance fitness simulator in sixth.<br />
<br />
Other notable premieres were 3DS's <em>Star Fox 64 3D</em> and Kinect's <em>Rise of Nightmares</em> in ninth and a brisk 37th place, respectively. Check out the drying paint of a fresh UK top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/12/dead-island-shambles-up-uk-charts-space-marine-drops-in-second/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Island shambles up UK charts, Space Marine drops in second</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/12/dead-island-shambles-up-uk-charts-space-marine-drops-in-second/">Dead Island shambles up UK charts, Space Marine drops in second</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Sep 2011 09:15:00 EST. <p class="p1">
	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> kicked-off the season of big releases a couple of weeks ago, and along with it came no shortage of controversy. GameStop <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/24/gamestop-pulls-deus-ex-human-revolution-pc-versions-from-shelve/">pulled PC copies</a> and ended up giving purchasers a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/26/gamestop-deus-ex-apology/">$50 voucher</a> after removing the included OnLive codes. An interview with Shawn Freeman provides a look at one side of that story, and some insight into GameStop's future digital plans.<br />
	<br />
	The retail situation was not the only source of controversy though. While <em>Human Revolution</em> was widely praised for the many elements it got right, there were a few divisive ones that couldn't be overlooked. Plenty of frustrations are shared in this week's roundtable, but remember, it comes from a place of love -- mostly.</p>

<a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> has shipped 2 million copies across North America, Europe and PAL territories, Square Enix announced today. Although that's "shipped" and not "sold," the game is certainly no slouch in that department, having topped the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/05/deus-ex-maintains-uk-top-spot-driver-races-into-second/">UK</a> charts since launch and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/august-npd-annual-sales-drop-again-deus-ex-augments-the-top-sp/">US</a> sales chart for August.<br />
<br />
Next up for <em>Human Revolution</em> is the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/deus-ex-missing-link-dlc-gets-a-trailer-more-details/">"Missing Link" DLC</a>, available next month. Square Enix is also certainly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/01/report-square-enix-to-expand-eidos-montreal-add-350-employees/">augmenting</a> its development staff at Eidos Montreal to get more content out and fast-track that inevitable sequel.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/deus-ex-human-revolution-ships-2-million-units/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution ships 2 million units</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/deus-ex-human-revolution-ships-2-million-units/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution ships 2 million units</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Sep 2011 12:40:00 EST. We're starting to see a trend develop -- a super, super disheartening trend. According to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/npd">NPD group</a>, total sales in the U.S. gaming industry dropped 23 percent year-over-year during the month of August; almost exactly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/11/july-npd-sales-down-29-ncaa-football-leads-software/">the same amount</a> sales declined in July. NPD's Anita Frazier explained, "the bulk of the decline can be attributed to the shift of the annual Madden release from August to September." (The NPD actually counts August 30 as part of September, which seems pretty zany.)<br />
<br />
Gaming hardware saw an increase in sales over July, largely fueled by the price cuts endured by the 3DS and PlayStation 3. According to a memo sent out by Nintendo following the NPD report, the 3DS discount moved 185,000 consoles from August 12 through the end of the month. This wave managed to increase dollar and unit sales of handheld hardware to a year-over-year increase over August 2010, which bucks the downward trend followed by the rest of the industry. Hooray for discrete electronics!<br />
<br />
Surprisingly, the top-selling game for August was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>, which was only on store shelves for five days during the NPD's tracking window. The group doesn't expect the augmented title to rollover its reign into September, instead expecting Madden to reign supreme. Square Enix has shed some more light on Adam Jensen's retroactively mysterious disappearance covered in the upcoming "The Missing Link" downloadable content for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>. As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/deus-ex-human-revolutions-missing-link-dlc-due-in-october/">previously revealed</a>, the DLC fills in a three-day chunk of <em>Deus Ex</em>, during which Jensen loses the use of his cybernetic augmentations.<br />
<br />
We assumed the DLC would include new characters and story, but today Square officially revealed a much more interesting tidbit: The ability to "rebuild Adam's augmentation set." In other words, players will be able to reapply those wasted Praxis points on more useful augmentations. We're guessing Jensen is still stuck with his most useless augmentation, however, that being his <em>permanent</em> sunglasses.<br />
<br />
"The Missing Link" will arrive next month.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/deus-ex-missing-link-dlc-gets-a-trailer-more-details/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Deus Ex 'Missing Link' DLC gets a trailer, more details</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/deus-ex-missing-link-dlc-gets-a-trailer-more-details/">Deus Ex 'Missing Link' DLC gets a trailer, more details</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Sep 2011 12:50:00 EST.
