Strange.<br /><br />Not really - the final dev diary describes the historical accuracy of <em>Assassin's Creed 3</em>'s main cities, positing that citizens of those areas today should get a creepy "I've been here before" feeling while wandering the digital streets. It also tackles the frontier and Connor's tree-running ability, along with epic naval battles. These are different than "navel" battles, bear in mind.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/19/assassins-creed-3-developer-diary-tackles-the-land-and-sea/">Assassin's Creed 3 developer diary tackles the land and sea</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Sep 2012 16:30:00 EST. The game<i> </i>is expected to launch on PC at the end of 2013, just a few years before the world goes to hell (according to <em>Survarium</em>, of course).<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/survarium-first-screens/">Survarium (First screens)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/survarium-first-screens/#5140644"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/288385445408535480582629296815o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/survarium-first-screens/#5140645"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/2884804454081954806161955868131o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/survarium-first-screens/#5140646"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/291540445408665480569429317990o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/survarium-first-screens/#5140647"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/3360414454084054805951703107989o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/08/mmofps-survarium-gets-new-screens-story-details/">MMOFPS Survarium gets new screens, story details</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 Jul 2012 15:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/infinity-blade-2"><em>Infinity Blade 2</em></a> studio Chair Entertainment say the project is much more than just a game, calling it an "artistic experience" in the latest dev diary. Insomniac Studios may have some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/20/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one-review/#review">explaining</a> to do for its recent release, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one"><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank: All 4 One</em></a> -- and they're happy to do it. In a series of three developer diaries, the Insomniac team behind <em>All 4 One</em> explain how being small can still make a big game great, all while having what looks to be a fun time. That's what really matters, anyway -- that someone, either developers or players, have fun with the game. But only one of those groups can enjoy it; after all, that's what it's All 4.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/30/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one-dev-diaries-show-off-a-small-team-bi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank: All 4 One dev diaries show off a small team, big game</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/30/ratchet-and-clank-all-4-one-dev-diaries-show-off-a-small-team-bi/">Ratchet &amp; Clank: All 4 One dev diaries show off a small team, big game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 30 Oct 2011 19:30:00 EST. When it comes to 2D action titles, it seems there's nobody as capable as WayForward. Recent entries in the genre, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/ds-fanboy-review-contra-4/"><em>Contra 4</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/bloodrayne-betrayal-review/"><em>Bloodrayne: Betrayal</em></a>, speak volumes to the company's capabilities -- and, the developer's latest, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/aliens-infestation"><em>Aliens: Infestation</em></a>, seems destined for the same fame. Yet, as easy as WayForward makes it look, developing a stellar 2D action title is anything but.<br />
<br />
Director Adam Tierney offered insight via a diatribe on fan site <a href="http://www.avpgalaxy.net/games/aliens-infestation/developing-unique-marines/">AvPGalaxy</a>, discussing in great detail how he and company came up with these characters. For example, did you know that there are unique bios and art for each of the game's 20 different marines, which are then added to the Extras menu once the player comes into contact with any given marine for later perusing?Interesting stuff!<br />
<br />

Rather than allowing players to jump from car to car all willy nilly-like, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/driver-san-francisco"><em>Driver: San Francisco</em></a> instead depends on a metric called "good will" to mete out the <em>Matrix 2</em>-esque action. Though it's possible you've been offered the opportunity to dress like a space wolf at some other point today, we were quite excited to be extended such a chance by the newly announced pre-order bonuses for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/warhammer-40k-space-marine"><em>Warhammer 40K: Space Marine</em></a>. Folks pre-ordering the forthcoming third-person space shooter at GameStop will get the hilariously named armor, as well as the "black templar chapter armor." A variety of other bonuses are available from several other retailers, detailed below the break.<br />
<br />
Additionally, a "limited run" of the collector's edition seen above will be offered at retailers, going for $79.99 on PC and $89.99 on 360/PS3. Beyond the faux "Purity Seal" and artbook, <em>Space Marine</em>'s collector's edition comes bundled in a box (shaped like an old book!) with the soundtrack, a pack of "character information cards" and the game itself.<br />
<br />
Additionally, among the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/25/onlives-space-marine-pre-order-includes-free-microconsole-and-d/">other ways</a> you can currently get <em>Darksiders</em> for free, PC pre-orders at most retailers -- except THQ's own store, it seems -- will snag a copy of that alongside <em>Space Marine</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/27/become-a-space-wolf-with-warhammer-40k-space-marines-pre-order/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Become a space wolf with Warhammer 40K: Space Marine's pre-order bonuses</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/27/become-a-space-wolf-with-warhammer-40k-space-marines-pre-order/">Become a space wolf with Warhammer 40K: Space Marine's pre-order bonuses</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 May 2011 01:00:00 EST. The guys at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ska-studios">Ska Studios</a> must be big Kurt Loder fans (we're totally Team Serena Altschul!), because this dev diary for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-dishwasher-vampire-smile">The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile</a></em> is straight outta the '90s. The video takes us on a tour of founder James Silva's pad (just like <em>MTV Cribs!</em>), which is great for all of you stalker types out there -- and even greater for those of you curious to see how an indie studio is livin'.<br />
<br />
The video also introduces the newest member of Ska Studios, "art unicorn" Michelle. Hey, aren't unicorns supposed to have horns on their heads? False advertising, lady!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/31/the-dishwasher-vampire-smile-dev-diary-channels-the-mtv-spirit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile dev diary channels the MTV spirit of old</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/31/the-dishwasher-vampire-smile-dev-diary-channels-the-mtv-spirit/">The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile dev diary channels the MTV spirit of old</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Mar 2011 00:30:00 EST. No, the dev diary for Telltale's upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/jurassic-park"><em>Jurassic Park</em></a> adventure games isn't feature-length, but we'll be damned if it doesn't fill you with an overwhelming desire to pop in the film on which its based. Developer Fire Hose Games followed a fairly bizarre trajectory with the development of its debut project, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/slam-bolt-scrappers"><em>Slam Bolt Scrappers</em></a>. Check out the dev diary to see how the game was laboriously brought to life -- sadly, the video doesn't reveal the machine they used to squeeze about eight games into one.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/20/fire-hose-games-sprayed-and-prayed-with-slam-bolt-scrappers-prot/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fire Hose Games sprayed and prayed with Slam Bolt Scrappers prototypes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/20/fire-hose-games-sprayed-and-prayed-with-slam-bolt-scrappers-prot/">Fire Hose Games sprayed and prayed with Slam Bolt Scrappers prototypes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 20 Mar 2011 11:30:00 EST. What if two independent game development superstars (<em>VVVVVV</em>'s Terry Cavanagh and <em>Love</em>'s Eskil Steenberg) and one video game journalist (Kieron Gillen) coordinated a bank heist? No, that's not the setup for a poorly constructed joke -- it's the premise of <a href="http://vimeo.com/17297917">the video demonstration</a> posted after the jump of an upcoming game from indie developer Introversion titled <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/subversion"><em>Subversion</em></a>.<br />
<br />
The game (which was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/28/defcon-dev-announces-new-game-subversion/">announced</a> back in 2006, but is still in the early, pre-beta stages of development), tasks players with executing <em>Mission Impossible</em>-esque espionage missions using a real-time strategy interface. Check out the half-hour guided demo after the jump to see how these missions unfold -- and to get a look at the game's unique, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/04/subverison-to-deploy-procedural-city-generator/">procedurally generated</a> world in motion.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/30/indie-gaming-mavens-plan-a-heist-in-subversion-demonstration/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Indie gaming mavens plan a heist in Subversion demonstration</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/30/indie-gaming-mavens-plan-a-heist-in-subversion-demonstration/">Indie gaming mavens plan a heist in Subversion demonstration</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Nov 2010 13:00:00 EST. We got a brief demonstration last week of the three new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/halo-reach"><em>Halo: Reach</em></a> battlefields present in the Noble Map Pack -- however, don't you want a tour from the sage minds who <em>created</em> said arenas? Well, then, look no further than the three <a href="http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&amp;cid=29866">Bungie video tours</a> posted just after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/29/bungie-offers-a-trio-of-video-tours-of-halo-reachs-noble-map-p/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bungie offers a trio of video tours of Halo: Reach's Noble Map Pack</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/29/bungie-offers-a-trio-of-video-tours-of-halo-reachs-noble-map-p/">Bungie offers a trio of video tours of Halo: Reach's Noble Map Pack</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Nov 2010 21:45:00 EST. We've had like, one dream our entire lives, and that dream is to drive a real-life light cycle. Is that too much to ask? <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tron-evolution"><em>Tron: Evolution</em></a> says "No, of course not," as the game's <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/11/19/first-look-at-tron-evolution-playstation-move-support-stereoscopic-3d-and-multiplayer-detailed/">latest dev diary</a> reveals that the PlayStation Move controller pretty much allows you to simulate that experience as well as you can in this, the year of our lord 2010. Unless, of course, some technology manufacturer is holding out on us. <em>We're watching you, Hitachi</em>.<br />
<br />
The dev diary also shows off the game's character progression system, which remains persistent between single-player and multiplayer modes, and talks a bit about the PS3 version of the game's 3D display support. We're not sure our eyes can handle all those vivid colors presented in such an in-your-face manner. They're delicate, you know?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/20/tron-evolution-dev-diary-demoes-persistent-progression-move-su/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tron: Evolution dev diary demos persistent progression, Move support</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/20/tron-evolution-dev-diary-demoes-persistent-progression-move-su/">Tron: Evolution dev diary demos persistent progression, Move support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 20 Nov 2010 01:00:00 EST. This new <em>Darkspore</em> producer diary from Maxis is all about loot -- how to find it, get it, and then strap it on your oddly-shaped appendages. The catalysts and cash-out systems look particularly interesting, mixing up the ceaseless looting with an alluring meta-game.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/19/darkspore-producer-diary-loot/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Darkspore producer diary is downright looticrous</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/19/darkspore-producer-diary-loot/">Darkspore producer diary is downright looticrous</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Nov 2010 10:45:00 EST.
