Today is one of those days and we're not complaining -- Fangamer is selling a pack of Zelda-themed playing cards designed by DeviantArt user Nelde, and they are utterly gorgeous.

The face cards feature famous Zelda characters, including Zelda, Link, Dark Link, Mikau, Darmani and more. The suits have been updated as well, to rupees, swords, heart bits and triforces. Fangamer warns that the decks won't ship until May, but the good people of Zelda Universe say they already received their orders, so go ahead and take a chance on love. Or Zelda cards.

Or both. It's just that kind of day.
Play some card games with the cast of Zelda originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 15 Apr 2012 20:00:00 EST.

One is a complicated, galaxy-spanning game of intrigue and backstabbing, and the other is Mass Effect. Why not combine the two?

Deviantart user tommyfilth created this custom-made Mass Effect Monopoly board ("MassNopoly"), complete with Cerberus Tasks and Alliance missions in the place of Chance and Community, and actual Mass Effect relays standing in for the railroads. Eden Prime is the cheapest spot on the board, but beware: Stacked up with a few extra colonies and a corporation, it'll cost you 250 million credits if you land on it.

Unfortunately, this was just a DIY project tommyfilth made for his family this past Christmas (inspired by another custom Fallout-inspired Monopoly set), so none of it is official or available for purchase. If we were Commander Shepard, this would be our favorite board game on the -- well, you know.

Pass Go, collect 20m credits in Mass Effect Monopoly originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 05 Jan 2012 07:00:00 EST. The fruits of a deviantART "art jam" concept pitched by user lerms in late 2009 has finally been revealed, rekindling our love for classic NES promotional design (and how awesomely bad it was). The art jam's rules were simple: Select a classic title and reimagine its box art, while also keeping the spirit of the original in mind. Suffice it to say, the results were superb and only make us want to print each of the designs for use in our own classic gaming collection. (Or at least purchase poster sized prints of them all.)

In all, ten classic designs were re imagined, including covers for Contra, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, and (finally!) an Iron Sword: Wizards & Warriors II cover sans Fabio.
A Google image search of Lara Croft is a lot tamer than it used to be these days, though it's still something we wouldn't suggest doing. Thankfully, we have a link to quench your thirst for inspired, non-naked, sexually-deprived-fanboy-fantasy-quasi-porn, courtesy of The Design Inspiration.

There are 40 fanworks in total, all originating from deviantART (obviously). There are a lot of great renditions, including the image where Lara is fighting dinosaurs and the one where she's hiding from dinosaurs. We also have a soft spot for this odd image of her fighting Wonder Woman, but the best has to be this image where she defends herself so she can stop and eat the baked potato she brought down into the tomb with her. Tomb raiding takes a lot of carbohydrates, people!
Stop us if you've heard this before: You get home, stare at your Xbox 360 console and, through the corner of your eye, spot your sister's Bedazzler and think, "Yes. Yes, I can." Apparently that's what happened with deviantART user ricepuppet when creating the above piece of work for "a client." Don't get us wrong, we dig the paint job, but the faux gems look completely out of place. Somewhere, a little girl's jean jacket sits cold and alone without the word "Princess" strung across the back in precious rhinestones (for the sake of this joke, pretend it's 1987).
Xbox 360 and rhinestones, how can this go wrong? originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 23 Jul 2009 14:15:00 EST. DeviantART power user, Orioto, has been creating beautiful video game pieces for quite some time (you may have even seen some of his work on Joystiq) and his latest is no exception. Posted a few days ago, Orioto showcases Nintendo's famed heroine, Samus Aran, against a collection of deadly Metroids. The piece, much like his previous work, is stunning. For gamers with blank walls and deep pockets, Orioto also accepts commissions. Now excuse us while we get our art on ... this paint-by-numbers isn't going to finish itself!

[Thanks, RobT]
Get wowed by gorgeous video game inspired paintings originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 20 May 2009 02:00:00 EST. Leave it to heartbreakers and photoshoppers across the internets to play around with our fragile, Squeenix-loving selves.

Rumors of a Kingdom Hearts Wii have been floating around for quite some time -- that's nothing new. People were starting to believe such talk, though, after a "leaked" cover of the next Nintendo Power issue was "found" on an online subscription form. Putting on our skeptic caps, we immediately came up with a few reasons for why this rumor was false:

There's no 20th anniversary badge on the cover

There aren't enough headlines and previews (only two, whereas last month's NP had twelve)

Nintendo Power rarely (if ever) features the DS in its top banner, making this cover seem more unlikely

In case you're not hip to our sleuthing, though, it was also revealed that the Kingdom Hearts cover art in question came from DeviantArt, of all places. So, if you see this rumor on your vast travels across the internet, we'd advise you not to believe it -- even if it hurts. While we're not saying Kingdom Hearts Wii will never happen, it's clear that this cover is nothing but a fake.

[Via GamerTell]
Kingdom Hearts Wii rumor revealed, debunked originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 19 May 2008 14:00:00 EST. Square Enix has decided to streamline the fanart process, appealing directly to the community art website DeviantART with a The World Ends with You art contest. Entering the contest involves drawing new character or background art for The World Ends with You, to be judged by DeviantART staffers and the game's development team! We hope Square Enix gets the fanart they were imagining, and not the fanart that ... DeviantART is known for.

But the real story here isn't the proliferation of cat-eared Sephiroths in the style of The World Ends with You. As reference material for the contest, Square Enix put a bunch of concept art on the site, along with discussion of the game's visual style and inspiration from the team.
The World Ends with DeviantART originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 04 Apr 2008 13:30:00 EST. It must be your lucky day!

Too bad it's April Fools' Day! You're not getting any popcorn at all!
Does this count as a furry pinup? Is "fur" a requirement for these sort of dealings? And if you're the kind of person who is really into dragons, wouldn't these anthropomorphised features (e.g. blonde hair, humanoid limbs, and dragon breasts all up in your grill) turn you off?

Apparently not! Upon seeing the above piece, deviantART member RajginKisaragi commented, "Very beautiful job! I'm glad to be a dragon looking at this ... *Boing*" There you have it, straight from the dragon's maw! A real-life dragon, at that!

Natasha "Dark Natasha" Mleynek painted the lid of this Black GBA SP back in 2004 for a friend. While the subject doesn't fit our tastes in either women or dragons, we recognize that Natasha is very skilled in her craft; there are few, if any, technical flaws with this customization. Believe us, she could have done a lot worse. Also, she added a layer of clear coat paint to protect her artwork from any man-handling.

See also: Orcs & Elves & a John Carmack autograph
What is wrong with the world today? originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 14 Jan 2008 22:00:00 EST.
In honor of the truly excellent announcement regarding Sly Cooper hitting PSP, we have this fan art of the thieving raccoon himself. This lovely and moody piece was done by Neyla. It features Sly thieving across Paris, as the bright shine of a full moon glistens in the background. Neyla says that she was trying to capture the Japanese version of Sly, which is slightly redesigned. If this fan art makes you excited to get your crook on, visit Neyla's deviantART page. She has done plenty of other great game fan art besides, so browsing her gallery should interest you. Either that, or let Neyla know what you think of the art in our comments section.

This hippin' and hoppin' piece comes from illjules. Impressively made in the online Oekaki art program. I like the more realistic and 3D take on PaRappa, though I do worry that he might try to throw down if I got on his bad side. I'd take that chance though, just to see him work his magic in the club.

A new piece of fan art will be shared every Friday.

With Rondo of Blood on it's way to our fair system, I thought it was time for some Castlevania fan art. This amazingly drawn and beautifully colored piece comes from Candra. It features Rondo's hero Richter Belmont. I can't even begin to imagine how long it took Candra to put all the detail in this fan art. I personally think this work is a good mix between an anime style like the new Castlevania titles, while still retaining the gothic nature of the old art style. If this work inspires you to see more of Candra's work (and it should), go check out her deviantART account.

Gallery: Fan Art Fridays

PSP Fan Art Fridays: Castlevania originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 11 May 2007 23:00:00 EST.
LocoRoco may be getting a bit old, but love for the title certainly hasn't diminished. With new demos constantly coming out as well, new fans are always coming into the fray. Because of this, I've chosen the above LocoRoco fan art that was made by Blackmago. I've always appreciated illustration that uses clay, and so that makes me doubly enjoy Blackmago's work. The image looks good enough to be official game art and Blackmago certainly captured the playful innocence of LocoRoco. Hit up his deviantART account to see his other amazing gaming influenced art.

Ready At Dawn has been in the news a lot lately, but most PSP gamers still love them for their work on Daxter. This week's art depicts the various qualities of our hero. Wennichelle created this work and I'm not sure I've ever seen Daxter depicted any cuter. If Daxter looks good (and he does) there's probably a reason. Wennichelle has done many Daxter fan arts prior and I actually had a difficult time picking which one I wanted to use. If you like Daxter and/or the art above, go check out Wennichelle's Deviant Art account for more. Thanks for making such great fan art Wennichelle!

Last week I asked for PSP-tan fan art since the internet barely has any PSP-tan representations. Luckily, neyLa came through and created this cute (or should I say kawaii) version of PSP-tan. neyLa did a good job of retaining the visual elements of the PSP while still making an adorable girl. Maybe if Sony used this PSP-tan as a mascot, they'd be #1 in sales. If you enjoy neyLa's art like I do, go check out her Deviant Art account and let her know what you think or just leave feedback in our comments section. I'd love to see more PSP-tans in the future, but if you have any PSP-related fan art, just send it our way.

Do you want to share your PSP-related fan art? Send us an e-mail. A new piece of fan art will be shared every Friday.

I've got a jonesing for more cowbell, but even more than that, I want more fan art. Luckily it's Fan Art Friday, so my needs for one of the two will be satisfied. This week we take a look at a Tekken related fan art that depicts Kazuya dealing with Heihachi the only way someone can. Paolo Diego is the creator of this fine work. I could totally picture something like this actually happening in a Tekken game. If you dig the art like I do, go check out Paolo's deviant art account. I'd write more about the piece, but it's sorta a tall work and I want it to fit on the main page for all to see. Thanks for the art Paolo! Feel free to let him know what you think and see us back here next Friday!

Not 24 hours have passed since the Halo 3 commercial has been released and already fan art has surfaced. Rahll over at deviantART created the above masterpiece in about an hour and a half after being inspired by last night's Halo 3 commercial airing. This is one of my favorite scenes from the commercial where Master Chief throws down the force field grenade and BLAM! ... it gives me a tingly stomach. So, for all you competitive artistic types, can you do better? I'm a big sucker for Halo inspired artwork, so if you're up to a challenge then get out your Crayolas and create some Halo 3 inspired artwork. And if you do a good job, I just might do a follow up and recap the best fanboy artists, there work and maybe even be some personal blog linkage.
