Devil May Cry 4 demo confirmed for PSN, XBL in early 2008
It's unclear exactly what will be included in the demo, with Capcom saying only that the download will serve to introduce the game's new hero, Nero, and feature levels "chosen to showcase Devil May Cry 4's varied locales and allow gamers to familiarize themselves with Nero's unique abilities." The demo will also include in-game instructions on how to use DMC4's Exceed sword charge system and various superhuman abilities, made possible by Nero's "Devil Bringer" powers, and will be capped off with a fight against a surly boss named Berial. We hope the boss has insurance, because players have been waiting a long time revisit Devil May Cry, and we imagine Berial is going to buried many times before the game's February 5, 2008 release.
Capcom reveals mediocre Devil May Cry 4 special edition
A second DVD, designed to be slipped into your computer, will also be included, and will feature a "making of" video, the DMC4 soundtrack, as well as icons, screen savers, and wallpapers. Underwhelming, sure, though what we're most disappointed in is that while the powers that be at Capcom decided to include an artbook in the collection, they went the cheap route and simply stamped the eye candy digitally onto a DVD.
All of this will of course come stuffed inside a metal case, and while we enjoy shiny tin boxes as much as anyone, Capcom's gall to ask $80, some $20 more than the regular edition's asking price, for this lackluster montage is enough to make even our jaded heads shake in amazement. The special edition will ship for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 alongside the regular editions on February 5, 2008.
Resident Evil 5 likely M.I.A. until at least April 08
Capcom's latest financial report, which also revealed the less-than-spectacular Lost Planet and Dead Rising sales in Japan, has a curious absence from their lineup for the upcoming financial year: Resident Evil 5. Unless the publisher is planning on making a surprise announcement, it is unlikely we'll see the sequel until next fiscal year beginning April 2008. We have contacted Capcom for an official statement.
The report listed Devil May Cry 4 and both Resident Evil Wii titles (RE4 and Umbrella Chronicles) as upcoming major release, with DMC4 expected to sell 1.8 million units worldwide.

First DMC4 playable Dante gameplay footage

Capcom has released the first gameplay footage of Dante from Devil May Cry 4. If you don't know, the protagonist featured so far is in fact Nero, though he bears a striking resemblance to Dante. Among other things, Dante has duel-wielded pistols, which are so popular with the kids these days. The clip is very short, but it does showcase some pretty nifty maneuvers for Dante. We like the upside down, spiraling double guns in particular. Check out the video and a new gallery after the break.
DMC4 on 360 and PS3: identical

Speaking to IGN in a video interview, Devil May Cry 4 producer, Hiroyuki Kobayashi, dropped some interesting info. Firstly, he describes the game's lead character, Nero, and his weapons -- a big sword called the Red Queen and a revolver called the Blue Rose. That's all well and good, but the real sound bite concerns the game's multiplatform status. Regarding the disparities between the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Devil May Cry 4, Kobayashi says, "Our plan is to make them pretty much identical."
In the unending flame war of console superiority, this is quite a statement. Kobayashi notes that there may be some functionality in the PS3 version not included in the 360 version. The statement is poorly translated though, so we're not exactly sure what that functionality will be (motion control, perhaps?). At any rate, the upshot is this: if you have to play Devil May Cry 4, you might as well do it for $200 less, because you won't be missing anything on the Xbox 360.

New Devil May Cry 4 screens are HOT!

Since a certain game by the name of Devil May Cry 4 is coming to the Xbox 360, we might as well get excited about how the game is progressing along. And we can't think of a better way to show off its progress than with a bunch of new flaming hot screenshots. And what flaming screenshots they are (okay, we'll stop with the hot references now). Make the jump to see the latest screenshots showcasing what DMC 4 has to offer in the visuals department. From crazy motion blur effects to ultra bloomy specular bloom, DMC 4 has it all and a bag of BBQ chips (we couldn't resist).

PSM brings DMC4 preview; gets cheap

While current subscribers are enjoying the dreamy pictures of Nero fighting demon hordes, the vigilant deal-watching group CAG has unearthed a fantastic deal for new subscriptions. 12 issues of PSM are now available for $5 at amazon.com, after instant rebate. While new subscribers are unlikely to receive the latest DMC4 blowout, one Lincoln is still a great deal for something to read when you absolutely have no access to PS3 Fanboy.
Rumor: SOCOM and Devil May Cry appear on retail radar
According to PSX Extreme, game specialty store Game Crazy apparently has listings for two new PSP games: SOCOM Tactics and Devil May Cry. Earlier, Capcom refused to comment on a PSP Devil May Cry, neither refusing or confirming its existence. However, a new SOCOM seems like an inevitability, considering the success of the last two games. It would be great to get two more high-profile games on our system, especially Devil May Cry. Let's hope this rumor comes to fruition.

Devil May Cry 4 scans hit PSM
The subject line says it all -- the next PSM features Devil May Cry 4 and we've got fifteen scans of the story! Instead of linking to all... fifteen... pictures... we're going to give you this one link and tell you how to access the rest. Are you ready to be the most basic of web manipulators?! Let's go! All you gotta do is change the part of the link that says "img001" to "img002" all the way to "img015". Ta-da! Enjoy those. What you'll see are some neato pictures, some explanations of the moves you can get the main character to do (there appear to be plenty!), an interview with one of the creative minds behind the game (Hiroyuki Kobayashi), and... okay, mostly the interview. It's interesting to read, but I started to get a headache from straining my eyes so I stopped halfway through. But seriously... this Dante looks like a white-haired Viggo Mortensen. Don't even argue! It's the truth.

Ask PSP Fanboy: Volume 13
Q: I was checking out the Devil May Cry 4 trailer on Xbox 360 Fanboy and a commenter raised an excellent question. I had heard a version of Devil May Cry is(was?) due for the PSP, any word on when that may happen or if it is still going to happen?
A: We contacted Capcom, and all they had to tell us was that the release "is still TBD." What does that mean? Sounds like they haven't started work on it yet, have they?

Today's most vocal game video: Devil May Cry 4 trailer

Some of you wept over Devil May Cry 4's multplatform ambitions, but we welcome the fall of another console-specific franchise. (Well, some of us remember a simpler day.) We've picked this action game's trailer for tonight's video.
We tried the game late last year, but rational analysis aside, we're sold on all of Dante's different grunt and attack sounds. Can we get a remix? See the video after the break.
Dead Rising and Lost Planet to remain Xbox 360 exclusives
At least "as far as current plans go." So says Capcom's senior director of strategic planning and research, Christian Svensson, posting on the official Capcom forums in the midst of a Devil May Cry outcry. When asked by fans whether the company's new mulitplatform strategy would extend to their pair of successful Xbox 360 titles, Svensson explains that "Dead Rising and Lost Planet are not slated to appear on Wii or PS3," noting that the reasons for the continued exclusivity "are quite convoluted" and are bound by a slew of suspicious non-disclosure agreements. He goes on to say that Capcom's current approach -- which sees Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4 coming to both PS3 and Xbox 360 -- is for future titles and isn't meant to be applied in a "retroactive" manner. Of course, this comes just days after Svensson used the forum to respond to sulking petitioners and their disdain for Devil May Cry gracing multiple platforms.
"We are certainly moved that people are so passionate about our products that they would go to such extremes," he said in a seperate thread. "At the same time we feel that allowing more people access to our content pleases far more people than it displeases (after all, we're not denying DMC4 to anyone that was already going to get it). It really is the best decision for the company and for consumers."
Apparently, Dead Rising and Lost Planet simply missed the multiplatform boat.

Loyalists cry over Devil May Cry on Xbox 360
The internet is not a safe place to be, especially when it comes to the gaming industry. Earth-shattering announcements are made, megatons are dropped and the entire gaming community explodes and reconstitutes itself so often that the rest of the internet views it as a sort of radioactive leper who's constantly chasing after a pair of misplaced thumbs. Perhaps that's why, every now and then, we're good for a laugh.Take this online petition, for instance. Whether it's made in jest or not doesn't really change the fact that it's absolutely hysterical. It seems a group of Devil May Cry fans are extremely upset about the game going to the Xbox 360 and PC in addition to the PS3 -- so much so that they're going to boycott Capcom and not buy either version. As the internets are fond of saying, "Oh noes!"
"We (The people that have signed this petition) feel very left out in your decision to make Devil May Cry 4 a Multi-Platform title and hereby agree to boycott your sale of Capcom affiliated games," it reads. "This is due to your decision to turn your back on your most faithful gaming company. For years we have enjoyed games, we have reaped the benefits of your committment to Sony. We find it absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself. We want you to know that will not, and should not stand for your actions, and therefore withold our option of buying your product."
Oh dear, Capcom. Not only have you gone and left people out by making your game available to more gamers (not to be confused with fans, apparently), but you've demoralized a huge corporation! Absolutely fiendish.
