Did you feel that Devil May Cry 4 was so busy with its own style that it neglected to actually let you play -- well, so did Yahtzee. This week Zero Punctuation takes on DMC 4, the game which pulled a Metal Gear Solid 2 on us and introduced a character who was kind of like our original hero, but totally not. Don't be upset with Yahtzee's rage DMC fanboys, take solace in the knowledge that your beloved franchise has already shipped 2 million copies.

This week's less NSFW than usual review of Devil May Cry 4 can be found after the break.
Continue reading Zero Punctuation tears up Devil May Cry 4

Zero Punctuation tears up Devil May Cry 4 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 05 Mar 2008 21:00:00 EST. Capcom's leather-clad bender Devil May Cry 4 has shipped out an impressive 2 million units since its debut two weeks ago, making it the first game in the opulent franchise to reach the milestone so quickly and the latest feather in the cap for Capcom's now 9 million unit selling series.

This accolade is no doubt helped by the fact that the sequel, unlike those that came before it, was released for two platforms simultaneously, satiating players' thirst for over-the-top action regardless if they wave their banner over the Xbox 360 or PS3. In addition, Capcom continues to note that a PC version, for those inclined to play console-style games while tethered to their monitor and desk chair, will be released in the months ahead.
Devil May Cry 4 sheds 2 million tears originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 20 Feb 2008 10:00:00 EST. Capcom's over-the-top action extravaganza, Devil May Cry 4, has debuted at the top of the UK's all-format software sales chart, rudely bumping previous one-er Burnout: Paradise down to fourth place. GamesIndustry.biz reports that 61 percent of the title's sales came from the Xbox 360 version, a fact which is sure to make loyalists and rabid petitioners weep uncontrollably. Of course, it didn't help that the PlayStation 3 version had to deal with price gouging and an installation stigma.

In other satanic sniveling news, Capcom has announced that the Devil May Cry 4 demo has been downloaded over a million times on Xbox Live, making it the first piece of code to do so in 2008. Since appearing on the network January 24th, it's reportedly been averaging over 25,000 downloads a day.
Devil May Cry 4 tears up UK charts originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 12 Feb 2008 15:57:00 EST.
Shed a tear for those who still feel utterly betrayed by a huge, profit-seeking corporation's decision to release a game on more than one platform. The (fan)boycotters are missing out on all the demon demolishing found in Devil May Cry 4, Capcom's latest take on the continuing struggle between the forces of evil and whichever sword-wielding smack talker walks out of the salon first. Though Beelzebub's fourth bawl brawl clearly sticks to the franchise formula, we think Dante Lite (pictured above) is crashing a party that only got into full swing with the third game.

Eurogamer (70/100): "After more than seven years, the Devil May Cry series finds itself in the same kind of safe, reliable trough that Resident Evil was in before Resi 4. DMC4 can still fall back on rock-solid combat mechanics and some standout moments, but it feels as though it's comfortable to slowly refine what was good about previous versions rather than evolve into something spectacular."

1UP (85/100): "Although it dips into the recycling bin a bit too much, Devil May Cry 4 still remains a must-play title for action-adventure gamers. Its gorgeous trappings, addictive combat, and well-balanced difficulty make it the most satisfying DMC in years, and Dante's such a killer character that you'll actually want to tackle the game on a tougher difficulty in order to fully explore his amazing arsenal."

IGN: (87/100): "Though the focus might be more on Nero than Dante, and could've been named something else with a Dante cameo, DMC4 still has everything that fans expect of the game - over the top fight sequences, tons of replayability and an experience with an excellent production value. Whether it's on the PS3 or the 360, action fans are going to get one incredible experience with this game, and if you own either system, you'll have a great time."

Borrowing a bit of that white-haired bravado, Capcom has unapologetically responded to the so-called crybabies for whom Devil May Cry 4's 21 min, 40 sec PlayStation 3 pre-game installation (timed by CVG) stretches out like an eternity of wasted opportunity and nonfulfillment. "Wah! Have you ever played a PC game? At least we aren't making you shuffle multiple discs into a ROM drive, or continuously click 'Yes!' on a series of endless Windows dialog boxes," Capcom's Chris Kramer fires back at any griefer who will listen.

Once the DMC4 installation is complete (a one-time process - unless you delete the 5GB of data), Capcom claims players will experience "near-Super Nintendo speed load times," which CVG clarifies as "one or two seconds shy of those in the [Xbox] 360 [version of the game]." Whether you feel this perk justifies the initial wait-to-play (which is alleviated by a screenshot recap of the series) or not, Capcom doesn't much care. Pre-game installation is a reality for a growing number of PS3 games. It's not a bullet-point any publisher wants to list on a press release or print on a retail box, but it's a 'next-gen feature' we all need to get used to.
Capcom addresses DMC4 install complaints originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 05 Feb 2008 12:55:00 EST. This week marks the North American release of Devil May Cry 4 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. To celebrate, the crew at PS3 Fanboy have written a retrospective on the series as a whole. It's a good refresher for those who haven't touched the series in a long time (or ever). It also makes for a great read while PS3 owners wade through the required installation. (About 30 minutes in length, according to PS Fanboy editor Andrew Yoon.)

Concluding the retrospective is a review of Devil May Cry 4. You can browse the retrospective via the links below and enjoy our rather extensive gallery.
If you're not too busy playing Satan's Sudoku, you may want to lend some of your time to Beelzebub's bawling buddy, Devil May Cry 4. Though rumor had it arriving a tad later, the folks at Capcom have confirmed that a demo of the extravagant actioner is due to arrive on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network this Thursday, January 24th.

Demo May Cry will acquaint players with newcomer Nero, the franchise's third silver-haired, sword-wielding weirdo with a penchant for killing demons in spectacular fashion (that coat is snazzy!). Players will battle through several different locales and a boss encounter before being reminded of the full game's release on February 5th.

Gallery: Devil May Cry 4 (PS3)

Devil May Cry 4 demo hits PSN, Xbox Live this Thursday originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 22 Jan 2008 21:00:00 EST. The German version of GamePro (via NeoGAF) has published its review of Devil May Cry 4 and revealed some interesting features for the PlayStation 3 - namely, achievements. Similar to the Xbox Live counterpart, you'll be able to perform certain actions and earn recognition, which can then be seen by your friends.

From what we gather, this is only for DMC4, however, and not a console-wide feature, so don't expect to start bragging about your PSN gamerscore anytime soon. The idea of PS3 achievements, rumored once to be called entitlements, were denied by Sony leading up to the console's launch.

The review also confirmed Sixaxis functionality in the form of tilting to adjust the camera, and noted a 5GB required installation before you can play the game. The 1UP podcast this week also confirmed this, saying it took 25 minutes to complete the installation process, so don't expect to play the game as soon as you get home from the store.

[Update: Upgraded emphasis on 5GB installation]

[Via PS3 Fanboy]
Devil May Cry 4 for PS3 gets achievements, required installation [update] originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 07 Jan 2008 15:15:00 EST. It has all the elements we've come to expect from the DMC series: acrobatics, dismemberment, and extreme cases of early-onset leukotrichia. However, after paying attention to the jaw-droppingly beautiful opening cinematic for the game, we are left with one major question: What is Nero listening to on those headphones? Sure, high octane techno-rock is a pretty safe bet, but we guess it's possible that our crimson clad protagonist can't juggle baddies unless he listens to ABBA. Guess we'll find out when the game hits U.S. store shelves in February '08.
Devil May Cry 4 opening cinematic is very cinematic indeed originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 29 Dec 2007 17:00:00 EST. Getting gifts and embarrassing ourselves while under the influence of copious amounts of alcohol are reasons enough to count down until the new year, but Capcom has given us another reason to continue to mark through days on the kitchen calender, announcing plans to release a free playable demo of Devil May Cry 4 over both the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store in early 2008.

It's unclear exactly what will be included in the demo, with Capcom saying only that the download will serve to introduce the game's new hero, Nero, and feature levels "chosen to showcase Devil May Cry 4's varied locales and allow gamers to familiarize themselves with Nero's unique abilities." The demo will also include in-game instructions on how to use DMC4's Exceed sword charge system and various superhuman abilities, made possible by Nero's "Devil Bringer" powers, and will be capped off with a fight against a surly boss named Berial. We hope the boss has insurance, because players have been waiting a long time revisit Devil May Cry, and we imagine Berial is going to buried many times before the game's February 5, 2008 release.
Devil May Cry 4 demo confirmed for PSN, XBL in early 2008 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 07 Dec 2007 10:00:00 EST. The trailer is more or less an extended version of the Tokyo Game Show trailer from last year. It introduces players to both Dante and Nero, the game's protagonists. There are also some shots of what appear to be villains as well, including the requisite scantily-clad, large-breasted dominatrix. If you've yet to experience it in HD, you might as well go download it now. Frankly, we're waiting for Capcom to give us something new.
LGC07 Devil May Cry 4 trailer on XBLM originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 19 Sep 2007 15:15:00 EST. They tend to be mishmashed, garbled pieces of last-minute marketing, with way too much happening on one little box to elicit anything but "this is cheesy". There are other boxarts like Warhawk that get the point across: title, clouds, airplane. Simple, direct, excellent.

The past boxarts for Devil May Cry have also been simple: generally it's Dante in a sweet pose with the title somewhere around him. That's why we're kind of disappointed at the supposed final boxart for Devil May Cry 4. It's got Nero in a cool pose and we're fine with that. But what's with the giant Dante in the background? It makes the entire thing seem a bit crowded, honestly. Not that it matters -- the game inside the case is what counts. Thoughts?

[Thanks, Cagalli!]
Devil May Cry 4 gets some boxart originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 08 Sep 2007 17:30:00 EST.
We're jealous of Jem. At this very moment, he's drowning in a sea of new and upcoming games that we can only dream of playing. Devil May Cry 4, we're certain, is one of those games. Capcom released a new trailer to the German masses, as if gamers around the world weren't excited quite enough. Having only dabbled in previous entries in the series, we have no idea what's going on. If you find yourself in a similar situation, fear not, for it does not matter a bit. The simple truth is that the trailer is nothing but action, so if you don't need any more than that (and really, who does?), you're in for a treat. Seriously, it's got everything: guns, swords, soldiers, fanatics, voluptuous women, macho dudes, demons, everything. The only thing we need now is a demo. Come on Capcom, you remember what a demo did for Dead Rising, right? A longtime Sony exclusive, Capcom made waves earlier this year when they announced that the fourth game in the series would be heading to the Xbox 360 as well as PS3. Given that the game is scheduled to drop by the end of the year, we're expecting the version on display at Leipzig to be near final. We're sure there will be tons of DMC4 coverage next week, and you can be sure we'll be keeping an eye out for it.

[Thanks, homer34]
Devil May Cry 4 360 will be at Leipzig originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 15 Aug 2007 13:30:00 EST. Capcom are announcing that the PlayStation 3 version of Devil May Cry 4 will be playable at the Leipzig Game Conference next week. Visitors will be able to play as Nero, a new character to the series, and experience his "Devil Bringer arm and the immensely powerful attacks and non-stop combo techniques it delivers." The game is scheduled for a winter release this year, along with 90% of all yet to be released console games. We've said it before and we'll say it again; this is going to be an expensive Christmas.

We'll be there to give your our impressions of the game direct from the Leipzig Game Conference.

Devil May Cry 4 being shown off at Leipzig originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 14 Aug 2007 06:30:00 EST. While we wait, however, we've come across some new screenshots that show off some new characters that will undoubtedly 1) get in the main character's way, 2) say cheesy one-liners, and 3) turn into really ugly creatures for some reason. We can't wait! There are guys with monocles, girls with really white hair, some other guy who looks like the guy with the monocle but without said monocle ... the possibilities are endless. No matter how you feel about Capcom's treatment of the PS3 and Sony, if you've had experience with prior Devil May Cry titles, you know your fingers are burning for some cheesy action.

Update: Capcom has provided us with images and descriptions of the new characters:

"Credo - Kyrie's older brother and the leader of the Magic Sword Cult, an organization that worships Sparda and whose mission is to destroy all demons

Unless you want to hear the incredibly loud sounds of E3 sprinkled with some DMC4 music, we're just warning you. Of course, there are more than one new trailer for Devil May Cry 4 up at Gametrailers, but we're just giving you a small taste of what the latest build of Capcom's title looks like. It looks very smooth, but still lacking that signature difficulty. By all means, the guy playing the demo should be getting his bum handed to him, since he's not playing that expertly. On the other hand, the enemies are all very simple and basic too, so perhaps Capcom is saving the more extreme enemies for the more extreme crowd -- those who buy the game.
Some Devil May Cry 4 action, since it's been a while originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 15 Jul 2007 10:00:00 EST. They finally got the answer everyone has been arguing over: why did DMC4 go multiplatform? We're satisfied with the answer, so we'll outline that along with other queries asked below.

About the move toward multiple platforms, Kobayashi said "We're using an engine called Framework for development, and it's extremely easy to have a multiplatform strategy including the PC. You can say that Devil May Cry 4 is the first such offering. With the increase in platforms, we have the chance of more people being able to play the game, so we're also happy as developers." The strong name of the game overseas help, too, he said.

The game is definitely built originally on the PS3 and ported to other systems (which will yield better ports to other systems and easier for the developers). Kobayashi said that "we've just started with the Xbox 360 version following the announcement, so there's still a ways to go." If the PS3 version is nearly complete, can't we just get it now? We wanna play.

The content, as we've said before, will be the same across platforms. Minor graphical differences may exist, plus the PS3 can install the game onto the hard drive, but the game will play the same regardless. Kobayashi laments, "We wanted to avoid arguments about which one is better."

The game will indeed run at 60fps. Kobayashi actually claimed keeping to that goal has proven to be one of the biggest challenges in developing for next-gen consoles so far.

Finally, we've been told to expect an advanced build of the game at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show in September. It wasn't made clear if it will be any specific console build, but we'd anticipate a booth for both the PS3 and 360 versions of the game. Not for comparison purposes, but just to show how they're progressing. So they say.
Devil May Cry producer may cry if system wars continue originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 02 Jun 2007 18:00:00 EST. If you don't know, the protagonist featured so far is in fact Nero, though he bears a striking resemblance to Dante. Among other things, Dante has duel-wielded pistols, which are so popular with the kids these days. The clip is very short, but it does showcase some pretty nifty maneuvers for Dante. We like the upside down, spiraling double guns in particular. While I've recently been lost in the insanely difficult DS title Etrian Odyssey, my mind has often wondered as to whether this title will retain the difficulty set by the third entry. If you don't like tough games, you shouldn't climb into the ring. Hopefully this game will be tough, but not so hard as to turn people off of getting into the fight. If for some reason you can't see the video above, please check it out at its hosted site.

Also of note is that Peter Dille, Senior Marketing VP for Sony, announced that DMC4 was built for the PlayStation 3 hardware then ported down to other systems. Someone else said that if games were started on the PS3 and ported elsewhere, quality would not drop and the PS3 version would look spectacular. Good news for us, then!

[Thanks a lot, Cagalli!]
Tired of Nero? Dubbed Gamer's Day Galleries, you'll know exactly what you're getting into. This first gallery has a few gorgeous high-res shots from Devil May Cry 4 -- nothing surprisingly new, but they're great to look at. Smooth, gigantic bosses, fast-paced action ... this game's got it all, if you like that sort of thing. Everyone that has read this site for more than a day know my feelings about the DMC franchise, so of course I think these screens look great. Look for the game by the end of the year, probably October.

SGD '07: Devil May Cry 4 gallery originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 17 May 2007 03:01:00 EST. Because they matter. As a child may persist in asking, why? The answer... they don't. If enjoyment is gleaned from a game, does it really matter that the wall textures aren't quite as smooth, or the characters aren't as freakishly shiny? Nick says, "not really". But then again, Nick doesn't own any other next-gen consoles besides the PS3 (he has his reasons, it actually has nothing to do with "fanboyism" or "loyalty").

Third-person rants aside, Devil May Cry 4 is inevitably going to get compared between the 360 and PS3 versions. Capcom ensures their rabid/adoring fans that the two builds will be "pretty much" identical. An anonymous dev said: "As far as the Xbox [360] and the PS3 are concerned, the capabilities and the features in the game, we expect will be the same. Our plan is to pretty much make them identical. You may be able to use some of the functionality in the PS3 as like a switch, but nothing spectacular." Let's see what the game is like by the end of the year, hmmkay?
No difference noted between Devil May Cry 4 versions originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 02 May 2007 18:00:00 EST. Firstly, he describes the game's lead character, Nero, and his weapons -- a big sword called the Red Queen and a revolver called the Blue Rose. That's all well and good, but the real sound bite concerns the game's multiplatform status. Regarding the disparities between the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Devil May Cry 4, Kobayashi says, "Our plan is to make them pretty much identical."

In the unending flame war of console superiority, this is quite a statement. Kobayashi notes that there may be some functionality in the PS3 version not included in the 360 version. The statement is poorly translated though, so we're not exactly sure what that functionality will be (motion control, perhaps?). At any rate, the upshot is this: if you have to play Devil May Cry 4, you might as well do it for $200 less, because you won't be missing anything on the Xbox 360.

[Via Joystiq]
DMC4 on 360 and PS3: identical originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 02 May 2007 17:00:00 EST. After the week long stint of DMC4 news, what else could be discussed other than some hands-on impressions? Well, they've got a lot to say, but we'll keep it as short as possible just because we know you've got a lot to do on a Sunday.

The gameplay has gotten so finely tuned and sharp that it was instantly gripping while remaining challenging.

Some things don't feel next-gen about the game (at least, this early demo): the whole "kill all the enemies in the room to magically unlock the seal on the door" is a little worn-out.

The most important aspect of the game, at least with Nero, is the Devil Bringer. It completely changes the shoot/slice formula... being extremely responsive and refined doesn't hurt. And charging up your sword by throttling it like a motorcycle is neat, too.

The artificial intelligence is supposed to be top-notch, but not in the demo they played, apparently. Although it was more of a tutorial level, making the enemies dumb, they didn't exhibit much advanced AI.

Boss battles? Still intense and difficult. Failing only makes you want to defeat the monster more!

Crossing levels swiftly via the Hell Bound teleport move may portend a more engrossing exploration element in the final build.

Dante is ready to fight -- he's got his skills from Devil May Cry 3 as well as instant weapon-swapping. But only the developers got to show him off.

But what makes the game fresh? "This is a game made by a man who cut his teeth on fighting games, and combat is the number one priority here. Throwing an enemy up into the air, slashing it with a sword, following that with a few quick shots and yanking and slamming it back into the ground is extremely addictive. The Devil Bringer is fully integrated - essential - to the combat, and is the key to what makes DMC4 feel fresh. The graphics, of course, are packed with detail and flash"

That's it for the week of Devil May Cry 4. We stretched it out a little longer, but whatever. Now, we'd love to hear about the trophies they have planned for Home. Who wouldn't want a life-sized statue of Dante for beating the game with all S-ranks? I'd take that over some worthless line of text telling me I "achieved" something anyday.
Devil May Cry 4 -- an inclusive hands-on preview originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 29 Apr 2007 16:45:00 EST. He talked about his vision of the game and also a few other details we'll give you below. But watch the video. You get to see, pretty much, the entire first stage of the game.

All the animation, battle options, whatever... couldn't be done for the PS2.

They are fully taking advantage of the space available on Blu-ray as well as the PS3's standard hard drive. Installing the entire game on the hard drive will be possible and they'll compact the game as best they can to make that install as quick as possible.

60fps is the chosen option because the characters are so quick. While it makes the graphics nicer, the speed of gameplay is key. Having only 4 frames to choose an action is a much better choice with 60fps. So he says.

Itsuno says the only game similar to Devil May Cry is Ghosts N' Goblins. The difficulty, twitch timing reactions... sounds about right.

The Catch-22 of Japanese game development, as told by Itsuno, is that to get the budget to make a great game, it needs to appeal to a worldwide audience. This is probably why we don't see a lot of Shadow of the Colossus games, or artsy/niche games in general.

Along with Hideaki Itsuno, they interviewed Matoko Tanaka, the level designer as well as the artist who thought up Nero, Tatsuya Yoshikawa. All badasses do. Thus, on Wednesday, we are introduced to the specialties of Devil May Cry 4's main character as well as some of the bosses he'll be testing his skills against. Let's go!

So... they pretty much go over the controls for Nero. It's good to know, so we can imagine how the actual fighting will play out in our minds (for those who prefer playing games in their mind). Besides the general attack buttons, you have a gauge to power up that's separate from the standard "devil trigger", the ability to launch yourself long distances by using your crazy arm to snag blue spheres (in addition to grabbing enemies and throwing them all sorts of ways). It really sounds like the dev team has been trying very hard to make the new method of attacking flow with the established attacks. We're interested.

The other bit added to Wednesday's update is a run-through of all the main bosses you encounter in the previous Devil May Cry games. They did all right -- Nelo Angelo, Vergil, etc... but they missed one boss that was pretty important and just would not die. That crazy lava spider from the first game! It wouldn't leave you alone. Ever. Why was he important? No real reason, it's just what I think of when I try to recall how difficult some bosses can be.
DMC4 week, Wednesday: a boss and hero gala! originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 25 Apr 2007 20:30:00 EST. They talked about this and that, those and these, them and they. We'll summarize the interviews because that's what's so darn fun about video games.

What's up with the Devil Bringer?
Itsuno: It's a new way to fight. Can't shoot 'em or slice 'em? Throw them around a bit. It adds a third way to deal out destruction! (I'm paraphrasing, clearly) Also, there's a lot more to it than we've seen. It can stop attacks, deflect, etc. A super awesome shield, of sorts.

Is there anything specific that you were able to do with the PS3? Anything... stylish?
Itsuno: There's stuff we thought we'd be able to do, but the time element kind of got in the way. There was a lot that we could do with the PS3 -- it's not the hardware's fault, but... we just don't have the time to implement everything we wanted. But don't worry... the gameplay is still pretty much the same. (I don't mind getting a new fix of the familiars)

Devil May Cry 2 sucked. Did anything that you learned from the other games carry over?
Itsuno: Sure. We want to fit in more enemies, better AI. But as far as games go, we're proud of Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, so we'll probably use that as a frame of reference. Because it was freakin' awesome.

So what's the relationship between Nero and Dante? Will we be seeing any sexy slash in the future?
Kobayashi: "Dante is an enemy of Nero as he comes in and fights, but Nero doesn't know that Dante is actually a devil hunter."

The trailer yesterday wasn't true to the final product -- Dante will be in different places. So where will he be? Will he show up often?
Kobayashi: "...As the story progresses and there's a need for you to use Dante, you will be able to use him and it's pretty much well interlaced into the progression, the switch, between Nero and Dante. So you will be able to use Dante." Awesome!

Will you talk about the philosophy behind choosing Nero as lead instead of Dante?
Basically, Kobayashi said that Dante was so powerful at the end of the PS2 titles it wouldn't be enough to just play as him again. Enter Nero. Nero also serves as a new face for a new generation and audience -- so people can grow with him. But the veterans still get their Dante fix!

So, will this game do well on the PS3?
Kobayashi: "DMC4 will be at the top of the charts for a long time - at least two years, we expect. There won't be a game in two years to come along and be better than this game." Wow! Big words!

What do you feel about the PlayStation 3 as a platform?
Kobayashi: "Personally I like the look of the PS3 over the Xbox 360 - the external look and the sleekness of it - but that's just my personal preference." Hmm... sort of a dodgy answer, but we'll accept it. Our PS3's are very, very sexy.

Wednesday's news was released, so we'll type that up lickety-split. What a gross saying. Anyway, there's a ton we didn't cover, but seriously. Two gigantic interview summaries? You can look around and see if there's anything that interests you!
Devil May Cry 4 week continues with an interview from Tuesday originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 25 Apr 2007 16:00:00 EST. There hadn't been a game quite like it (well, games with bad stories have always existed, but using the bad story as a cheesy joke is pretty cool too), and ever since there have been a lot of games that look and feel similar. The speed, intensity, difficulty, swords n' gun action... it was all there. According to this trailer released Monday, it's still there and looking awesome. We'll keep you posted on the week of DMC4 as it progresses. And we can't think of a better way to show off its progress than with a bunch of new flaming hot screenshots. As many of you are already familiar, PSM has scored a huge 16-page exclusive on Devil May Cry 4 in their latest issue (in newsstands today). Their preview of the multi-platform action game has us yearning for more: "It's safe to say that the generational leap in hardware has not caused the series to lose sight of what it is: pure, all-out, unforgiving action ... Many mainstays from the series, including colored orbs, air juggling, and the Euro-gothic aesthetic remain intact- only everything is rendered in eye-blistering high-definition at a locked 60 frames per second."

While current subscribers are enjoying the dreamy pictures of Nero fighting demon hordes, the vigilant deal-watching group CAG has unearthed a fantastic deal for new subscriptions. 12 issues of PSM are now available for $5 at amazon.com, after instant rebate. While new subscribers are unlikely to receive the latest DMC4 blowout, one Lincoln is still a great deal for something to read when you absolutely have no access to PS3 Fanboy.
PSM brings DMC4 preview; gets cheap originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Apr 2007 23:00:00 EST. Still not really sure why he would compare it to Gears of War and Lost Planet instead of Virtua Fighter 5 and Genji or something.

What did the guy think of the level he was able to demo? It seemed to play great, but was sort of repetitive (understandable, although if you fight anything a few times in any game, repetitive can be an allocated descriptor). Hopefully the repetition slides away and is replaced with DMC3 difficulty. Graphics and effects were great, but the backgrounds seemed a little out of place, or didn't flow with the environments. Slightly jealous, but that's why I can just throw in the other odd-numbered titles of the series and get my fix.

[update: yeah, yeah, fixed the title, etc. Darned subject lines with their conspiracy-theory destroying abililites]
Devil May Cry 4 demo out in Japan kiosks... on PS3! (Well, some of us remember a simpler day.) We've picked this action game's trailer for tonight's video.

We tried the game late last year, but rational analysis aside, we're sold on all of Dante's different grunt and attack sounds.
