Being enormous fame monsters ourselves, we really appreciate it when others like us -- say, Lady Gaga -- use their <em>monstrous</em> fame for good. Which is exactly why we were so glad to see Ms. Gaga's massive $1.5 million contribution to Zynga's continued Japan relief efforts, half of which joined Zynga's donation, adding to the $2.5 million already raised in the past two weeks by the company's Facebook games. That brings Zynga's grand total in donation to just over $3 million.<br />
<br />
"I'm inspired that my little monsters banded together to help those affected by the terrible tragedy," Gaga colorfully noted. The money she raised came from the sale of $5 "We Pray for Japan" bracelets that her fans bought, with all proceeds going to charity. "What Zynga's players have done for the cause is equally inspiring, and I'm thrilled to partner with them to raise money that will go to Save the Children and the American Red Cross," she added. You can donate directly by heading to <a href="http://www.savethechildren.org/japanzynga">SaveTheChildren.org</a> or <a href="http://www.redcross.org">RedCross.org</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/28/lady-gaga-donates-1-5-million-to-zynga-for-japan-disaster-relie/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lady Gaga donates $1.5 million to Zynga for Japan disaster relief</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/28/lady-gaga-donates-1-5-million-to-zynga-for-japan-disaster-relie/">Lady Gaga donates $1.5 million to Zynga for Japan disaster relief</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Mar 2011 19:00:00 EST. Being a big gaming site, we can kinda lose sight of what's going on outside of the gaming world. The situation in Japan right now is terrible, and rather than use the disaster to its advantage for some kind of publicity stunt or whatever, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/square-enix">Square Enix</a> is just flat-out donating money.<br />
<br />
The Square Enix Group is giving 100 million yen to the relief effort. Additionally, it will collect donations from its employees the world over, and will also solicit donations through "select Square Enix online services and the amusement facilities that TAITO operates across Japan." Our heart goes out to those affected.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/18/square-enix-outlines-support-for-japan-disaster-relief/">Square Enix outlines support for Japan disaster relief</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Mar 2011 01:00:00 EST. For those who didn't keep up with the collapse of Midway in real time, or aren't in the mood to check out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/midway">every bit of minutia about the epic</a>, <a href="http://gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=23393">Gamasutra</a> has extracted the highlights. The piece showcases the publisher's financial issues -- like the fact Midway hasn't had any annual profits since 1999 -- the management's lack of vision, and finally the last couple years where even the most casual industry observer could watch things go <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/12/midway-files-for-chapter-11/">horribly wrong</a>.<br /><br />The second half of the feature covers the anatomy of the disaster and stops short of getting into these past six months, which, in fairness, given the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mark-thomas">mysterious Mark Thomas</a>, still makes very little sense. It's definitely worth the read for those who want to know how <em>not</em> to run a company, and for those who just like to point and cry at the stupid.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/30/midways-epic-downfall-condensed-by-gamasutra/">Midway's epic downfall condensed by Gamasutra</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 13:00:00 EST. My dearest followers,<br />
<br />
It's me, Ubisoft's forthcoming first-person survival game. You know, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/I-am-alive"><em>I Am Alive</em></a>. We met at E3, remember? I briefly exposed myself in front of you and left you somewhat confused ... but curious. You've been wondering about me, haven't you? We'll get to know each other in due time, it's just that ... well, I lied. I know I said I'd meet up with you in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/21/i-am-alive-to-show-itself-in-march/">March</a>. And I know that neither of us believed it, you with your "skepticism" and me with my nebulous features and infrequent public appearances.<br />
<br />
So, I'm going to be running late. Rest assured -- I <em>Am</em> Alive -- but I won't be leaving the office until Ubi's 2009-2010 fiscal year, which runs from April 2009 through March 2010. I know it's hard for you to understand, but it's for the best. I just ... I just can't let people see me covered in so many bugs. Despite my most fervent wishes, I can't make an exception for you -- it would be a <em>fatal exception</em>.<br />
<br />
Yours truly,<br />
I Am Alive<br />

After delays and uncertainty, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/wii-fanboy-review-disaster-day-of-crisis/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> finally came out in Europe and Japan -- and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/disaster-days-of-nobody-buying-it/"></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/25/monolith-reflects-on-disaster-non-sales-mentions-a-sequel/">pretty much</a> bombed. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/30/disaster-back-on-the-train-to-rumorsville/">New information</a> <em>suggests</em> that <em>Disaster</em> may be planned for a North American release (although we suspect it's more that said release was planned years ago when the game was first unveiled, and just has yet to be cancelled). <br /><br />But <em>should it?</em> Do you think the game has a better chance here than in other regions? Would you have any expectation of sales, especially given Reggie's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/say-what-you-think-reggie-lays-into-disaster-day-of-crisis/">low confidence</a> (and thus low likelihood of promotion)? Personally, we want to play it and we don't much care if Nintendo of America profits on it or not. They've got enough money, but we don't have enough copies of <em>Disaster.</em> Feel free to speak from the position of "armchair business analyst" <em>or</em> "person who wants to play a game"!<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/wii-warm-up-disaster-planning/">Wii Warm Up: Disaster planning</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Dec 2008 08:00:00 EST. Now, the will-it-won't-it saga has taken another twist, after Go Nintendo reader Silver Lunar received an email from Nintendo customer support saying the game would be released in the region.<br /><br />Okay, <em>we know</em>. Some guy saying he got an email from Nintendo customer support is exactly the kind of anecdote we'd usually snort derisively at, and you're right: we should all treat this with a degree of suspicion. That said, Go Nintendo's RMC received screencaps of Silver Lunar's email exchange with the big N, and reckons it's the real thing. <br />It is difficult to envisage a second <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/wii-fanboy-review-disaster-day-of-crisis/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> game, for two reasons:<br />
<ol>
    <li>How <em>any</em> follow-up could top the unlikely m&eacute;lange of disasters (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, terrorists, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/stephen-colberts-favorite-game-has-to-be-disaster-day-of-crisi/">bears</a>) that featured in the first game is beyond us. Perhaps an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/alternate-ending-suggests-potential-disaster-sequel/#comments">asteroid</a>?</li>
    <li>Sales of the first game. Or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/disaster-days-of-nobody-buying-it/">the lack thereof</a>.<br /></li>
</ol>
Nevertheless, developer Monolith Soft is at least <em>open</em> to the idea of a <em>Disaster 2</em>. In an interview with Cubed3, Director Keiichi Ono revealed that "...there were so many wonderful options [in the game]. We would like to see the possibility for them, if we have chance to develop the sequel..." <em>The</em> sequel? Or <em>a</em> sequel? The difference is pretty crucial! While we're not exactly taking that as rock-solid confirmation of Ray's return, it's an interesting remark.<br /><br />To bring us back down to earth, Nintendo's Hitoshi Yamagami reminded us of <em>why</em> the first game might not even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/reggie-answers-questions-about-disaster-fatal-frame-iv/">come to North America</a>, describing how <em>Disaster</em> is "performing lower than expected" at the tills.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/25/monolith-reflects-on-disaster-non-sales-mentions-a-sequel/">Monolith reflects on Disaster non-sales, mentions a sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Nov 2008 19:18:00 EST. [Update: Thanks to some of our commenters, we now have a better idea what's going on here. This is the introduction to an unlockable shooting minigame, rather than an unused ending. So instead of a lead-in to a sequel that won't happen, it's just a video from a game whose sequel won't happen.]<br /><br />WARNING: If you don't want to spoil the <em>incredibly obvious</em> storyIine of <em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em>, do not watch this video. We've put it after the break in case you don't want the game's epic plot ruined by even one preview frame.<br /><br />It seems that Nintendo and Monolith Soft may have seen sequels in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/wii-fanboy-review-disaster-day-of-crisis/">Disaster: Day of Crisis</a>'</em>s future. Unfortunately, they didn't foresee the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/disaster-days-of-nobody-buying-it/"><em>biggest disaster of all</em></a> -- the release of <em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em>, which turned out to be a powerful <em>bomb </em>capable of creating a sales vacuum.<br /><br />Even though this clip, found in the game's theatre, creates a clear opening for a sequel, we wouldn't hold our breath in anticipation of the continued adventures of Raymond Bryce and his ornate beard. For one thing, this is just an extra video and not the real ending. Also, obviously, game companies prefer to <em>make</em> money. However, it's pretty entertaining to see the jokey, ham-fisted manner in which they teased a sequel. <br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/alternate-ending-suggests-potential-disaster-sequel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Alternate ending suggests potential Disaster sequel [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/12/alternate-ending-suggests-potential-disaster-sequel/">Alternate ending suggests potential Disaster sequel [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Nov 2008 10:55:00 EST. <br />A <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/reggie-answers-questions-about-disaster-fatal-frame-iv/">promise</a> made by Reggie Fils-Aime means that North American <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/wii-fanboy-review-disaster-day-of-crisis/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> fans have an active interest in how the game fares in Europe. If it sells enough copies on the other side of the Atlantic, Reggie has suggested a U.S. release will be considered. Sounds fair to us. The only problem? It's selling <em>really badly</em> in Europe.<br /><br />According to the latest European sales charts, the game failed to reach the UK top forty, the Irish or Norwegian top twenty, or the Dutch, German, or Spanish top ten. More worryingly still, Monolith's title wasn't even amongst the <a href="http://www.charttrack.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110030">top <em>fifty</em></a> Wii releases in the UK last week. Oo-er. Such a meek performance in <em>Disaster</em>'s opening week doesn't exactly convince us we'll be seeing a Stateside release. We'd love nothing more than to be proved wrong and see Nintendo of America take a gamble.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.charttrack.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">Source</a>: Brits prefer their <em>Wii Fit</em>s<br /><a href="http://www.charttrack.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/ire/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=210015">Source</a>: Ireland isn't biting<br /><a href="http://www.dutchcharts.nl/game_charts.asp?cat=&amp;year=2008&amp;date=20081101">Source</a>: Holland bought more copies of <em>Mario Party 8</em> last week<br /><a href="http://www.vg.no/spill/topp20konsoll.hbs">Source</a>: Norway says "nor way" to <em>Disaster</em><br /><a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/far-cry-2-tops-us-german-charts">Source</a>: Monolith's game knows only pain in Germany and Spain<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/disaster-days-of-nobody-buying-it/">Disaster: Days of Nobody Buying It</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Nov 2008 15:30:00 EST. <br />Nintendo has published a list of Wii releases for 2009, and while it's some way from being a <em>complete</em> list, the news for North America ranges from great to ominous. We want to start this post on a happy note, so we'll begin by saying: the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/play-on-wii/">Play on Wii</a> remake of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-leads-off-wii-collection-of-gamecube-masterpieces/"><em>Pikmin</em></a> -- just the first game -- is totally coming to the U.S. The schedule also confirms the <em>Mario Power Tennis</em> remake for the States, so it looks like those two will lead the brand off here.<br /><br />But there's worrying news as well. For one, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/wii-fanboy-review-disaster-day-of-crisis/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> still isn't down for a North American release. Okay, so this isn't actually <em>that</em> surprising, as Reggie (who <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/say-what-you-think-reggie-lays-into-disaster-day-of-crisis/">isn't the title's biggest fan</a>, remember) has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/reggie-answers-questions-about-disaster-fatal-frame-iv/">said all along</a> that any U.S. release hinges on the performance of the game in Europe. As <em>Disaster</em> only came out in Europe last Friday, we still don't know how it fared, though will find out soon enough. Also missing are numerous Play on Wii remakes, including <em>Donkey Kong Jungle Beat</em>, <em>Chibi-Robo</em>, and the two <em>Metroid Prime</em>s.<br /><br />We'll say this again, just in case: this is definitely a bare-bones list, with not every Wii release of next year featuring. We're not about to give up on getting <em>Disaster </em>just yet.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/10/31/pikmin-mario-tennis-wii-makes-coming-to-north-america-disaster-day-of-crisis-nowhere-to-be-found/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/nintendo-directs-pikmin-remake-to-north-america/">Nintendo directs Pikmin remake to North America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 31 Oct 2008 15:25:00 EST. <br />If you thought our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/wii-fanboy-review-disaster-day-of-crisis/">7/10 review</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> was harsh, you should hear what Reggie Fils-Aime -- yeah, <em>that</em> Reggie Fils-Aime -- thinks about it. Twenty-five minutes into IGN's latest Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, Matt Casamassina revealed how Reggie "doesn't think <em>Disaster</em> is a $50 game," and regards the audio as "laughable." <em>Burrrrn</em>.<br /><br />We have to confess we're slightly dumbfounded to hear Reggie delivering such a hefty haymaker to one of his company's own games ... while speaking <em>on</em> the record, as well. <br />If <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster"><span style="font-style: italic;">Disaster: Day of Crisis</span></a> were a movie, it would be one of those big, dumb, summer blockbusters, the kind of feature where it's best to <a href="http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2007/07/16/">leave your brain</a> at the door.<br /><br />Although that might sound like a criticism, it's not intended that way, because just like over-the-top, thought-free action flicks, <span style="font-style: italic;">Disaster</span> can serve as a guilty pleasure. It's got a Seagal-esque hero who must be one of the most resistant, hardened one-man armies of all time, tons of implausible "escaping death" scenarios, and a script that's cheesier than an explosion in a Roquefort factory. Yet despite all of this, I enjoyed it. Mostly.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/wii-fanboy-review-disaster-day-of-crisis/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii Fanboy Review: Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/wii-fanboy-review-disaster-day-of-crisis/">Wii Fanboy Review: Disaster: Day of Crisis</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Oct 2008 15:22:00 EST. <br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/reggie-answers-questions-about-disaster-fatal-frame-iv/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> hero with a heart Raymond Bryce is back with another pair of videos, this time featuring the game's opening cut-scene and first crisis sequence. <em>Painfully wooden</em> acting aside (though it's certainly no worse than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/28/resident-evil-4-vs-resident-evil-5/"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a>), it's actually very nicely executed, and genuinely feels quite dramatic.<br /><br />True to the corny TV dramas on which <em>Disaster</em> could easily be based, this first video ends with a bunch of cliffhangers and questions to be answered. What has become of Steve? Will our intrepid heroes keep their own lives on the mountain? How amusing is Ray's janky running style? Find out ... <em>dun dun dunnn!</em> ... after the break.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/disaster-day-of-orange-jumpsuits/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Disaster: Day of Orange Jumpsuits</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/07/disaster-day-of-orange-jumpsuits/">Disaster: Day of Orange Jumpsuits</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Oct 2008 19:10:00 EST. Because it's not a Nintendo event if it isn't followed by "where's (<em>Game X</em>)" questions, Kombo cornered Reggie Fils-Aime at yesterday's conference and asked him about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/when-are-we-getting-disaster-day-of-crisis/">status</a> of North American versions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/01/disasters-disastrous-development-detailed/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/chew-your-nails-through-fatal-frame-iv-videos/">Fatal Frame IV</a>.</em> While nobody expected concrete <em>dates</em> or even confirmation from Reggie's answers, he still managed to impart a bit of information.<br />
<br />
Regarding <em>Disaster:</em> Nintendo of America is <a href="http://wii.kombo.com/article.php?artid=12887">waiting</a> to see how the game performs in Europe before making a decision. That means that we at least have to wait for a while <em>after</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/disaster-day-of-crisis-officially-dated-in-europe/">October 24</a> to hear anything.<br />
<br />
As for <em>Fatal Frame</em>, he <a href="http://wii.kombo.com/article.php?artid=12888">offered</a> the following frustrating response: "you're going to have to contact the publisher for questions on that." So it <em>might</em> be coming out here -- just not from Nintendo, despite Nintendo of Japan publishing it. Who wants to start cold-calling publishers?*<br />
<br />
*Note: Wii Fanboy does not encourage the cold-calling of publishers.<br />

Your head is probably spinning from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/news/">all of the wonderful Nintendo news</a> you've been exposed to over the last 24 hours and it's okay, because our heads are, too. But, there's one thing that was missing from Nintendo's little spiel today: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster-day-of-crisis"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a>. Why was this game not dated for a North American release? With it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/disaster-day-of-crisis-hits-japanese-shelves-on-sept-25/">releasing in Japan late last month</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/disaster-day-of-crisis-officially-dated-in-europe/">hitting Europe later on</a> this month, we're wondering what the big hold-up is?<br /><br />Of course, not like it matters, because, thanks to the Japanese game releasing, we've basically seen the whole game on YouTube. But, we're still contacting Nintendo for a comment, so sit tight.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/when-are-we-getting-disaster-day-of-crisis/">When are we getting Disaster: Day of Crisis?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Oct 2008 16:44:00 EST. <br />We know what you're thinking: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/disaster-day-of-awesome-trailers/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a>' protracted development can't have been <em>that</em> calamitous, right? The game released in Japan last week, and promptly earned itself a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/day-of-crisis-not-a-total-disaster/">respectable score</a> in <em>Famitsu</em>. And just <em>getting released</em> is probably more than we should expect for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/a-look-back-through-time-sadness/">some games</a>.<br /><br />But not every part of the title's gestation was peachy. The Monolith Soft team who worked on the game have been recounting their experiences in an interview for Nintendo's Japanese website, revealing that they were first approached about developing an "epic" game in early 2006, to be delivered in time for the launch of Nintendo's new Wii console.<br /><br />This gave Monolith around nine months to finish <em>Disaster</em>, but by the time the deadline had rolled around, the game still felt incomplete and had very few Wiimote-related functions -- instead, it used the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/classic-controller">Classic Controller</a>. Nintendo temporarily halted the project in October or November of 2006, only for work to begin again in early 2007; at this point, the entire game was revamped to include more waggle.<br /><br />Getting to peek behind the development curtain is always intriguing -- we're just glad everything worked out for the game in the end.<br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://www.nintendoeverything.com/?p=4328">Nintendo Everything</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/01/disasters-disastrous-development-detailed/">Disaster's disastrous development detailed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Oct 2008 20:10:00 EST. We all know the man's <a href="http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/168291/may-12-2008/threatdown---cute-bears">stance on bears</a>. He doesn't like them. In fact, he downright despises them. That's why we're sure that Nintendo's latest, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/day-of-crisis"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a>, is among Colbert's most treasured games. Why? Well, it features a boss battle against a bear. Aside from teaching us the near indestructible nature of the beast, it also shows us what kind of weapons to use against a bear should it get you in its sights. Also, it teaches us that bears like to stupidly charge back and forth.<br /><br />Check out the video past the break.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/stephen-colberts-favorite-game-has-to-be-disaster-day-of-crisi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Stephen Colbert's favorite game has to be Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/25/stephen-colberts-favorite-game-has-to-be-disaster-day-of-crisi/">Stephen Colbert's favorite game has to be Disaster: Day of Crisis</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Sep 2008 20:08:00 EST. Oh, man. Listen, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/day-of-crisis-not-a-total-disaster/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> is a game we've been waiting on for a long, long time. We like the idea. We like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/disaster-day-of-awesome-trailers/">what we've seen</a>. We even like this video (showing off nine minutes of opening gameplay, including the intro movie), despite the questionable YouTube quality. It looks pretty decent and more than playable. We daresay it could even be <em>fun</em>. But the dialogue is a little <em>lacking</em>.<br /><br />Okay. Let's get real: it's repetitive, unrealistic, and silly. But hey, we're used to less-than-stellar game writing, and <em>Disaster</em> has one thing going for it at the start: a hero with an indestructible noggin -- and that's all any action game really needs, right?<br />

None of us know why Nintendo kept such a tight lid on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/disaster-day-of-awesome-trailers/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> for so long. Logic dictates that the company didn't present us with much info because, well, the game was bad. Kind of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/project-hammer"><em>Project H.A.M.M.E.R.</em></a> bad. Well, the truth may be very different.<br /><br />Famitsu recently revealed its score for the game, and it received a respectable 34/40. Not too shabby, if we may say so. Especially for a game that pretty much got a surprise release. Not <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Saturn#North_America">a Sega Saturn kind of surprise</a>, but you get the idea.<br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=197693">CVG</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/day-of-crisis-not-a-total-disaster/">Day of Crisis not a total disaster?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Sep 2008 20:07:00 EST. Didn't we already have a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nms08">Nintendo Media Summit</a> this year? By golly, we did! But, still, it turns out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/16/rumor-nintendo-conference-october-2-in-japan/">that rumor</a> is true, as Nintendo will be holding an event on October 2nd and 3rd, showcasing games for both the Wii and DS in San Francisco. We know because we just got our invite.<br /><br />So what should we expect? Well, <em>something </em>on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster-day-of-crisis"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> we imagine, but anything outside of that is anyone's guess. What do you all think?<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/18/confirmed-nintendo-media-summit-in-early-october/">Confirmed: Nintendo Media Summit in early October</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Sep 2008 09:55:00 EST. </center>Two trailers for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/disaster-day-of-crisis-hits-japanese-shelves-on-sept-25/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> are now available on the Japanese Nintendo Channel. The first, above, does an excellent job of channeling American action movies, which is good for something that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/you-are-the-star-of-disaster-day-of-crisis/">purports</a> to put the player <em>in</em> one. It's got a brooding hero, stern-voiced narration from some kind of military official, and explosions all over the damn place. The second trailer combines the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/12/disaster-qtes-of-crisis/">gameplay footage</a> we've seen with a bit more context, which basically means walking around. Presented this way, it seems a bit less like a collection of disconnected events. <br /><br />We don't mind saying that these trailers have <span style="font-style: italic;">worked.</span> We could really stand to hear about a US release.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/disaster-day-of-awesome-trailers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Disaster: Day of Awesome Trailers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/disaster-day-of-awesome-trailers/">Disaster: Day of Awesome Trailers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Sep 2008 18:12:00 EST. Little is known about the actual gameplay in Monolith Soft's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/you-are-the-star-of-disaster-day-of-crisis/">Disaster: Day of Crisis</a> </em>(even though it comes out in Japan on the 25th), but a series of short video clips on the Japanese website make it seem like the gameplay may be divided into small, diverse segments (which we would hesitate to label as "minigames"). Each video in the "player action" section of the website shows Ray performing a different action, from jumping across chasms to rescuing survivors to driving -- all with different, context-sensitive control schemes. Many of those actions involve pressing buttons at the right time according to onscreen prompts.<br /><br />If the game is really divided into discrete chunks of gameplay -- drive in this level, perform CPR in this level, shoot guys in this level -- then <em>Disaster</em> could end up being a sophisticated <em>Dragon's Lair</em>-style game. If these actions are all part of a consistent style of gameplay, then it's an adventure game in which a lot of different stuff happens.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/12/disaster-qtes-of-crisis/">Disaster: QTEs of Crisis?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Sep 2008 14:36:00 EST. "Humans aren't helpless!" declares <em>Disaster</em>'s protagonist and catastrophe magnet, Raymond Bryce. It seems like sage advice coming from the man who, as the game's title candidly suggests, is enduring the most preposterously perilous day in the history of all time. Indeed, judging by the Japanese TV spots for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster-day-of-crisis"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> (embedded after the break), humans are far from helpless and quite capable of performing the following, exciting activities:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Outrunning tidal waves</li>
    <li>Kicking down doors</li>
    <li>Defusing bombs</li>
    <li>Clinging to railings</li>
    <li>Dramatically telling someone to "hang on to something" </li>
    <li>Sliding down ramps</li>
    <li>Taking cover from gunfire</li>
    <li>Climbing out elevators</li>
    <li>Crawling in vents</li>
    <li>Avoiding incineration</li>
    <li>Driving through meteor showers</li>
    <li>Jumping out of airplanes</li>
    <li>Starting flaming cars</li>
    <li>Facing down archenemies in the rain</li>
    <li>Climbing cliffs</li>
    <li>Shooting at gates</li>
</ul>
Oh, and fighting poorly animated bears.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/11/humans-arent-helpless-in-disaster-day-of-crisis/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Humans aren't helpless' in Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/11/humans-arent-helpless-in-disaster-day-of-crisis/">'Humans aren't helpless' in Disaster: Day of Crisis</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Sep 2008 18:30:00 EST. No, <em>really! </em>Nintendo of Japan has released a series of short commercials for the action/survival game, proving that they're probably going to <em>sell it!</em> <br /><br />The ads are built around the theme of the game as an action movie with you as the protagonist. Imagine our surprise when we heard that Nintendo of Japan plans to release <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster-day-of-crisis/">Disaster: Day of Crisis</a> </em>on September 25th. After hearing barely <em>anything</em> about the game for months, including a no-show at E3 and PAX, we were incredibly doubtful the game would release this calendar year, yet alone <em>at all</em>. But, sure enough, the official Nintendo of Japan website has it listed. <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/schedule/index.html">Right here</a>.<br /><br />So with a Japanese release ironed out and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/disaster-day-of-crisis-officially-dated-in-europe/">the European release date</a> for October 24th set in stone, when can North America expect the game? We've contacted Nintendo and are awaiting word. As soon as we get it, we'll update the post.<br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://wiiz.fr/article.php?a=19669">Wiiz</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/disaster-day-of-crisis-hits-japanese-shelves-on-sept-25/">Disaster: Day of Crisis hits Japanese shelves on Sept. 25</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Sep 2008 14:33:00 EST. The Day you thought would never come has finally arrived, leaping over the horizon and declaring, "I am alive, but not to be confused with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/i-am-alive"><em>I Am Alive</em></a>, the similarly themed disaster survival game from Ubisoft!" It seems Nintendo has finally gotten around to <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=196318">announcing</a> the official UK release date for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster-day-of-crisis"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a>, thus dragging the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monolith_Soft">Monolith Soft</a>-developed Wii game from the murky realms of vaporware and into the fluorescent aisles of your local video game retailer.<br /><br />October 24th has been chosen as the day which game protagonist Raymond Bryce is sure to describe as the worst of his life, what with it attempting to kill him constantly in earthquakes, fires, floods and tenuously connected terrorist attacks. There are also bears. See the peril for yourself in the gallery below.<br /><br />We certainly hope the game's been worth the wait, if only to spare us from a parade of self-congratulatory reviewers cleverly dubbing it a "disaster."<br />

<br />Nintendo's favorite new tactic of discussing its games <em>really, really close</em> to release (see also: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/jamming-to-wario-land-shake-it/"><em>Wario Land: The Shake Dimension</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/29/captain-rainbow-investigates-the-birdo-gender-issue/"><em>Captain Rainbow</em></a>) has extended to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a>. Two weeks ago, Nintendo had to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/nintendo-says-disaster-day-of-crisis-is-still-in-development/">reassure</a> the world that the game was still being made. Now, it's announced it will be coming out in Europe <em>next month</em>, on October 24th (falling in line with earlier <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/rumor-disaster-day-of-crisis-speculation-hots-up/">speculation</a>). That's a pretty rapid turnaround!<br /><br />The announcement on Nintendo of Europe's site also explains more of the backstory in the game, as well as the inclusion of "Survival Points" and "Battle Points," which can be used to hone Ray's abilities, giving the game an (extremely light) RPG element. If you haven't already, dodge that oncoming tsunami and leap heroically into our new <em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/disaster-day-of-crisis/">gallery</a> to see more!<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/disaster-day-of-crisis-officially-dated-in-europe/">Disaster: Day of Crisis officially dated in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Sep 2008 14:28:00 EST. Okay, so <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/rumor-disaster-day-of-crisis-speculation-hots-up/"><em>definitely coming</em></a>. Nintendo just dumped an almighty batch of almost 70 (mainly new) screens on our local press site, all of which you can find <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/disaster-day-of-crisis/1011638/full/">here</a>. They predominantly feature Wolverine look-a-like Ray as he takes on such well-known natural disasters as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/disaster-day-of-crisis/1011590/full/">infernos</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/disaster-day-of-crisis/1011610/full/">flooding</a>, uhm, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/disaster-day-of-crisis/1011593/full/">terrorists</a> and ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/disaster-day-of-crisis/1011559/full/">bears</a>. <br /><br />There's still no word on a release date, though this sudden burst of media fills us with bright-eyed hope, being the na&iuml;ve, optimistic fools that we are.<br /><br /><u><strong>Update:</strong></u> <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12623446&amp;postcount=211">NeoGAFfers</a> spotted an <a href="http://www.nintendo.de/NOE/de_DE/games/wii/disaster_day_of_crisis_9381.html">update</a> at Nintendo's German site that let slip a few precious details on <em>Disaster</em> (and, yet <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/rumor-disaster-day-of-crisis-speculation-hots-up/">again</a>, mentions a Q4 2008 release date). Apparently, we'll be playing as former US marine Raymond Bryce as he drives, swims, runs, and shoots his way through 23 "different parts" (a machine translation, which we assume means "23 stages"), faces volcanoes, earthquakes, flooding, tornados, and tsunamis, and fights it out against a terrorist organization known as "SURGE." Ray's health bar needs to be constantly watched, as he will require both food and fresh air if he's to rescue citizens. And that's your lot for now!<br /><br />
<br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/01/disaster-day-of-screenshots/">Disaster: Day of Screenshots [Update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Sep 2008 14:36:00 EST. <div align="left"><br />It's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/22/first-disaster-day-of-crisis-screenshot/">coming</a>! Since it was first exposed to the world more than two years ago, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> has been shrouded in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty_and_doubt"><em>FUD</em></a>.<br /><br />Recently however, the project's vitals have been looking healthier by the week. Though the veracity of such a source could easily be questioned, the game has <em>also</em> appeared in the database of a Danish retailer, along with a "Q4 2008" release date and an age rating of 16+. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/18/is-disaster-day-of-crisis-gone-forever/">Disaster</a> averted?<br /> <br /><a href="http://ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=333041">Source</a>: <em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em> "leaked" date (via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=53944">Go Nintendo</a>)<br /><a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=53954">Source</a>: Appears in database of Danish retailer</div>

Following <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/disaster-day-of-crisis-gets-australian-rating-could-it-actuall/">last week's Australian classification</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster-day-of-crisis/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a>, we've all gotten our hopes up again that the game could actually release <em>during the Wii's lifespan</em>. As a response to that, a Nintendo of America representative <a href="http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=206660">told GamePro</a> that the title is, in fact, "still in development." <br /><br />Sounds good to us, but could you give us <em>something</em> else, Nintendo? More info? No? Okay, then. Well, of course it does. Ubisoft didn't get where it is today by throwing popular franchises like <em>Splinter Cell</em> away after a single use (although our neck-snapping pal Sam seems to have been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/23/the-games-that-werent-there-missing-from-e3/">misplaced</a> recently), and you can be sure that the upcoming disaster survival adventure ... <em>thing</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/i-am-alive"><em>I Am Alive</em></a>, will be no different. "We hope it can be another strong franchise for our portfolio, alongside Prince Of Persia or Rayman Rabbids," the publisher's executive director, Alain Corre, told <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/31536/More-I-Am-Alive-on-the-way">MCV</a>. "It's a new baby for us - and we have big hopes."<br /><br />Provided it's raised properly and doesn't turn into a snot-nosed brat who sticks Legos up his nose and puts his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/konami-code-altaired-snake-password/">Altair action figures</a> in the microwave, this baby could be the best kind of disaster to befall any company. Of course, we should probably wait until we've played the first one before we sign off on "I Am Still Alive," and "Seriously, Stop Trying to Kill Me You Stupid Planet."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/18/ubisoft-hopes-i-am-alive-can-be-another-strong-franchise/">Ubisoft hopes I Am Alive can be 'another strong franchise'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Aug 2008 19:15:00 EST. Well now, it looks like we might be hearing more on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/18/is-disaster-day-of-crisis-gone-forever/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> soon. That is, if an Australian certification that recently popped up has anything to say about it. So, what's the deal? Your guess is as good as ours.<br /><br />The title received a Mature rating from the Australian classification board, on August 13th, so could the title be destined for a release this year? We can only hope. But, as it stands, that's all we have to go on right now.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.digg.com">digg</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/disaster-day-of-crisis-gets-australian-rating-could-it-actuall/">Disaster: Day of Crisis gets Australian rating, could it actually release?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Aug 2008 14:42:00 EST. Ubisoft has officially announced <em>I Am Alive</em>, a new adventure that forces players to "think, react and take risks that will directly affect themselves and those around them" as they navigate a Chicago "left in ruins." The game is currently targeted for release on "current generation video game consoles" during Spring 2009. Not much else is known about the title, though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/10/gamekyo-jade-raymond-working-on-surival-game-i-am-alive/">earlier reports</a> suggested that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassinscreed"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a> producer, Jade Raymond, would be taking the reins of this disaster game.<br /><br />We'll let you know as soon as we learn more. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Update: </span>Teaser trailer after the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-alive/">I Am Alive</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-alive/#923623"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/dscf5538_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-alive/#923625"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/dscf5539_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-alive/#923626"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/dscf5540_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-alive/#923629"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/dscf5541_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-alive/#923632"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/dscf5542_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/ubisoft-to-declare-i-am-alive-in-spring-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ubisoft to declare 'I Am Alive' in Spring 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/ubisoft-to-declare-i-am-alive-in-spring-2009/">Ubisoft to declare 'I Am Alive' in Spring 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jul 2008 19:00:00 EST. According to an article over at Gamepro, core gamers shouldn't fret going into E3 this year. Even though Nintendo just unleashed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit"><em>Wii Fit</em></a> on us, the focus for their newest console isn't going to be <em>entirely</em> casual. "We recently announced the upcoming release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/guess-whos-in-mario-super-sluggers/"><em>Mario Super Sluggers</em></a>," said Marc Franklin, director of public relations at Nintendo, to Gamepro. "Additionally, we will be announcing several new titles that core gamers will be interested in around the time of E3."<br /><br />This is likely to be music to the ears of fanboys who've wondered where stellar-looking titles such as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/day-of-crisis-not-a-disaster/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> have been for their beloved console. But, this goes against what Reggie said, in a good way. Where the resident ass-kicker, name-taker said we should expect <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/reggie-big-wii-title-coming-this-holiday-revealed-during-e3/">one big title from Nintendo at E3</a>, we're liking the idea of "several new titles" that Franklin said. Let's hope we get a bunch of new games next month when the show goes down!<br /><br />[Thanks, Sonic_13!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/nintendo-says-core-gamers-will-get-new-titles-at-e3/">Nintendo says core gamers will get new titles at E3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jun 2008 13:15:00 EST. While the words "indefinite delay" <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/wii-warm-up">caused a stir</a> among Wii owners, it seems that Nintendo isn't shelving the title. It's true that there's no new targeted release date, but according to Nintendo, Monolith Soft just needs more time to work on the game.<br /><br />The timing of the delay has also caused a few folks to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/wii-warm-up-disaster-delay-of-crisis/#c12208279">speculate</a> that it has something to do with the terrible tragedies that occurred recently in China and Burma. This would make sense, seeing as a game of this nature might hit a little too close to home in Asian markets for the time being. The wake of such events also helps to put things into perspective for a moment, as being upset over game news is trifling in comparison -- but we digress.<br /><br />So, is the delay indefinite? Technically, yes. But is <em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em> canceled? Not likely. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2008/05/19/disaster-adverted-disaster-day-of-crisis-delayed-not-cancelled/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/day-of-crisis-not-a-disaster/">Day of Crisis not a disaster</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 May 2008 20:00:00 EST. It certainly seems to have had a rocky history since its debut at E3 2006, so we wouldn't be <em>too</em> surprised if Nintendo pulled it for retooling -- or cancelled the thing altogether.<br /><br />Do you believe that <em>Disaster </em>is still coming? Do you believe that an "indefinite" delay at this point would mean the end of the game? It's a question of faith, we suppose, put to those who care.<br /><br />Alternately, and more enjoyably, let's talk potential edits that could be made to make it more of a stereotypical Wii game. <br />Sad news, if you're willing to buy into this rumor. According to QJ, a supposed Japanese press release was fired off by Nintendo where they explain that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/new-scans-feature-disaster-super-mario-stadium/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> has been put on indefinite hold. We're taking this with a big grain of salt, to be honest, because we don't want the rumor to be true and because QJ doesn't even source anything on the rumor.<br /><br />Without a credible source (or <em>any</em> source, for that matter), we're hard-pressed to buy into all of this. However, it's a good discussion topic, as many are still waiting for Reggie to deliver on his promise of delivering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/reggie-big-wii-title-coming-this-holiday-revealed-during-e3/">a big Wii title at E3</a> and hoped this would be it. Until we hear more word on this, we're just going to sit in the corner, with our hands over our ears, singing to ourself as we refuse to buy into this.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/18/is-disaster-day-of-crisis-gone-forever/">Is Disaster: Day of Crisis gone forever?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 18 May 2008 14:00:00 EST. We were a bit shocked to receive any kind of update at all about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disaster"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a>, much less a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/disaster-day-of-release/">release date</a>. Monolith's survival adventure is one of those games that disappears for months at a time, then pops up with just a few screens. For some reason, we think of it as perpetually on the brink of cancellation. But Nintendo's serious enough about releasing it to, uh, print a page in a retail pamphlet about it! Interesting factoid: <em>Bears</em> are now natural disasters.<br /><br />Another page (after the break) tinily reveals new screens of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/10/mario-heads-back-to-the-diamond/"><em>Super Mario Stadium: Family Baseball</em></a><em>,</em> which was just announced for the U.S. as <em>Super Mario Sluggers. </em>From the title, we know that the new game will be developed by Namco Bandai and will share gameplay aspects (though certainly not controls!) with their <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/23/have-you-heard-of-famista-ds/">Family Stadium</a> </em>games. Miis will also be playable!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/new-scans-feature-disaster-super-mario-stadium/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New scans feature Disaster, Super Mario Stadium</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/new-scans-feature-disaster-super-mario-stadium/">New scans feature Disaster, Super Mario Stadium</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 16:00:00 EST.
