For the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/dojo-update-wait-what/">second</a> time after the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Dojo/">Smash Bros. Dojo</a> announced that there would be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/15/rip-smash-bros-dojo/">no more site updates</a>, the <em><a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/smash-bros-brawl">Smash Bros.</a> </em>Dojo has updated. Rather than revealing something new about <em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl,</em> however, the latest update reveals something about <em>you</em>: that you're all crazy and willing to replay Target Smash and Home-Run Contest over and over again. <br /><br />The Dojo now features a list of records for the two contests, organized by level and by character. The fastest Target Smash overall? As of the end of last month, it's 3.98 seconds in Level 1 by Olimar. The longest home run? Ganondorf's 7,435.9 feet. And those are just individual records -- it gets crazier in co-op.<br /><br />If you're good at these challenges, but you've stopped playing <em>Brawl</em>, it may be time for you to hop back in. You might just get on the Dojo! Of course, only you will know, since there aren't any names attached to these records.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/dojo-update-celebrating-obsessive-brawlers/">Dojo update: Celebrating obsessive Brawlers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Aug 2008 17:37:00 EST. We buried our friend, the <em>Smash Bros. Brawl Dojo</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/15/rip-smash-bros-dojo/">many months ago</a>. Then, like a<em> zombie</em>, the beast rose from its grave to honor today's European <em>Brawl</em> release. <br /><br />Aside from an apology (and the promise that you can play <em>Brawl</em> in five different languages), the Dojo doesn't offer much in terms of words. Yet, it does feature a snapshot gallery with some super silly <em>Brawl </em>images worth looking at. "Snapshots Galore" has been around the Dojo two times before, but since we happened to be around those parts today anyway, we decided to put the most recent ones in a gallery for your viewing pleasure (below). <br /><br />We're really proud of what the <em>Smash Bros</em>. community has done, regarding these snapshots (which are filled with ridiculousness, awesomeness, and "huh?") and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/brawl-stage-of-the-week/">other creations</a>, too. Now it's your turn to take the <em>Brawl</em> torch, Europe. Let's see what types of goodies you can come up with.<br /><br /><strong>Warning:</strong> The pictures in the gallery below reveal <strong>spoilers</strong>! Only view the gallery if you're man (or woman!) enough to handle it.<br /><br /><br />[Thanks <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-smash-bros-brawl-snapshots/887814/full/">RupeeClock</a>!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/dojo-update-wait-what/">Dojo update: Wait, what?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jun 2008 21:00:00 EST. Dojo has been with us for so long, offering daily glimpses into one of the Wii's most anticipated titles, but as of yesterday, the blog is no longer updating. Where will we turn now for our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dojo">daily fix</a>? Oh, we could <em>play the game</em>, sure (at least, those of us not in Europe; sorry, folks), but Masahiro Sakurai's informative, enthusiastic posts gave us the tools we needed to succeed and grow as people (and, uh, <em>players</em>). It's like losing a friend. <br /><br />In honor of our months with the dojo, the Wii Fanboy staff got together and prepared a gallery collecting some of our favorite reveals, so that we can relive the experience one last time. Can someone pass the tissue? We're having a <em>moment</em> here.<br />

So, are we all enjoying <em>Brawl</em>? Of course, because I'm a mug and reside in the UK, I'm still waiting for my copy, but as long as you guys are happy and having a hoot, <em>that's all that matters</em>. Seriously, no jealousy here. Really! What, that throbbing vein? Yeah, it's always been there. Go past the break for the usual <span style="font-weight: bold;">spoilers</span> while yours truly curls up in the corner and <span style="font-style: italic;">sobs heavily</span>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/10/dojo-update-going-waaay-back/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dojo update: Going waaay back</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/10/dojo-update-going-waaay-back/">Dojo update: Going waaay back</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Mar 2008 18:00:00 EST. <br />This is it, folks: the final <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dojo">dojo</a> update before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/wii-fanboy-takes-super-smash-bros-brawl-wi-fi-for-a-test-drive/"><em>Brawl</em></a> hits the U.S., and there's a definite "last day of school" feel to proceedings. Rather than deal with the drudgery of introducing new stages or describing individual items in fine detail, Sakurai and his team of translators have just loafed around with their shirts hanging out, flicked ink at girls, and uploaded around a hundred of the goofiest images that users have taken using <em>Brawl</em>'s Snapshot mode (unfortunately, because we have a blog to run here, we only found time to upload around half).<br /><br />Some of these made us titter, some missed the mark, and others really need to be viewed with their caption (you'll have to go to the dojo itself for that) for the full effect. Oh, and you can forget shots of Peach's underwear, or of Snake and Pikachu in compromising positions. The dojo is a place for <em>all the family</em>, after all. Ah, where would we be without continues? You'd probably find us taking an anger management class or two if they didn't exist, truth be told.<br /><br />Of course, you shouldn't <em>rely</em> on continues. Even though you <em>can</em> use them, you should certainly try to get by without them. Sakurai seems to feel the same way, which is why you get <em>punished</em> for using continues in <em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl</em>.<br /><br />Not that the punishment is all that bad -- Kirby won't puff into your home and slap you in the face, for example. Yet, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/dojo-update-classic-mode/">in Classic Mode</a>, each continue comes at the cost of points and coins. Your score will automatically get cut in half, and the amount of coins you owe is based on the difficulty you're playing in. Naturally, easy playthroughs cost less coins than difficult playthroughs. And yes, these are the same coins that you'll be using in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/16/dojo-update-take-a-back-seat/">Spectator Mode</a>. Just like an arcade game, if you don't have enough coinage to continue, it's game over.<br /><br />As for Adventure Mode, the consequences aren't <em>as</em> bad. You don't have to spend your coins to continue, but you'll lose half of the trophies and stickers that you've collected on your current quest. You'll also receive less coins when you beat stages after continuing. <br /><br />We wonder just how hard these single player modes are going to be. Until we figure that out, you can bet that we'll be big penny pinchers.<br /><br />
<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/03/dojo-update-continuing-will-cost-you/">Dojo Update: Continuing will cost you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Mar 2008 20:00:00 EST. <br />We're lifting our spoiler barrier for today's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dojo">dojo</a> update, simply because there's a <em>complete lack of stuff to spoil</em>. Bowser's special moves -- the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/gallery/ssbb-gallery-three/654912/">Flying Slam</a> and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/gallery/ssbb-gallery-three/654916/">Bowser Bomb</a> -- have long been available on his <a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/bowser.html">dojo character profile</a>.<br /><br />The former replaces Koopa Klaw from <em>Melee</em>, and sees Bowser grab his opponents (either on the ground or in mid-air) and slam them back down to earth, providing the victim doesn't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/gallery/ssbb-gallery-three/654908/">reverse the move</a> and clamber on top of Bowser (damage will play a part in how strong any resistance is). The Bowser Bomb, meanwhile, is much the same as it was in <em>Melee</em>.<br /><br />Elsewhere, Sakurai discusses Meteor Smashes, maneuvers that let you spike already stricken opponents, sometimes with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ssbb-gallery-three/654921/">devastating effect</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/bowser.html#2nd"><strong>Read</strong></a>: Bowser: Special Moves<br /><a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/basic/basic10.html"><strong>Read</strong></a>: Meteor Smash<br /><br />
<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/21/dojo-update-more-on-bowser-and-meteor-smashes/">Dojo update: More on Bowser and Meteor Smashes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Feb 2008 11:15:00 EST. For the past fortnight, we've been positioning all <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dojo">dojo</a> updates and <span style="font-weight: bold;">spoilers</span> past the post break, so if you've been avoiding anything that could ruin <span style="font-style: italic;">Brawl</span>'s element of surprise, move on now! The rest of you are advised to click through for one of the juicier updates in a while...<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/dojo-update-the-bird-flies-again/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dojo update: The bird flies again</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/dojo-update-the-bird-flies-again/">Dojo update: The bird flies again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Feb 2008 16:00:00 EST. With <em>under a month</em> (<em>yaaaay</em>) to go until <em>Brawl </em>hits the U.S, we're well past the point of avoiding spoilers here at Wii Fanboy Towers. As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/04/dojo-update-a-new-approach/">mentioned yesterday</a>, we're going to be doing the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dojo">dojo updates</a> a bit differently now. <br />From today onwards, we'll be adopting a slightly different approach to our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dojo">daily updates</a> on <em>Brawl</em>. As director Sakurai is now dedicating the dojo to the numerous hidden characters, stages, and features that are lurking in this most content-heavy of games, we're going to be concealing any new <em>Brawl</em> revelations past the post break. It's the best way we can still bring you the latest <em>Brawl</em> news, without ruining the game for those who are taking a wide berth from spoilers.<br /><br />If you care not a jot about reading up on <em>Brawl</em>'s myriad secrets, then we'll see you past the break!<br /><br /><span style="text-decoration: underline; font-weight: bold;">Update</span>: Galleries have now also been posted past the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/04/dojo-update-a-new-approach/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dojo update: A new approach</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/04/dojo-update-a-new-approach/">Dojo update: A new approach</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Feb 2008 15:00:00 EST. <br />We've held off from posting about recent Dojo updates, partly because there's been plenty of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/super-smash-spoilers/"><span style="font-weight: bold;">spoilertastic </span>leaks</a> anyway, and partly because the last two updates were, well, pretty damn vanilla. Today's update, while revealing nothing that we haven't seen before, <span style="font-style: italic;">is </span>worthy of a post. That's because it conveniently packages video footage of <span style="font-style: italic;">every single mode</span> from <span style="font-style: italic;">Brawl</span> into a three-minute compilation. Pour yourself a coffee, sit down, and enjoy.<br /><br />In other news, Sakurai has spoken about the future of the Dojo itself, now that <span style="font-style: italic;">Brawl</span> has released in Japan. From this point on, the Dojo will be dedicated to revealing hidden characters, hidden stages and previously unmentioned features. We can't be the only ones who find it difficult to believe that there are <span style="font-style: italic;">still </span>unmentioned features lying about.<br /><br />
<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/31/dojo-update-three-minutes-of-every-single-brawl-mode/">Dojo update: Three minutes of every single Brawl mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Jan 2008 13:30:00 EST. <br />Today's dojo update features a tour of one of the six different modes you'll be able to choose from <em>Brawl</em>'s main menu: the Vault. The Vault is where every item that you have either collected or created is stored, including trophies, stickers, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ssbb-gallery-three/609845/">home-made</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ssbb-gallery-three/609841/">stages</a>, favorite snapshots, replays, your progress in the game's "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/14/dojo-update-challenges/">Challenges</a>" mode, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/dojo-update-masterpieces/">Masterpieces</a>. We've already been introduced to most of the above in previous updates, though the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ssbb-gallery-three/609861/">Chronicle</a>" section -- a huge list of every past Nintendo release (!) -- is news to us.<br /><br />Essentially then, today's update is a refresher on what <em>Brawl </em>will offer players, though it also really underlines the <em>crazy</em> amount of content that's been crammed in. As Sakurai himself reflects at one point, "I've clearly gone overboard with <em>Brawl</em>." Sir, we would agree. And we <em>love it</em>.<br /><br />
<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/dojo-update-the-vault/">Dojo update: The Vault</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jan 2008 13:30:00 EST. <br /><em>Do not adjust your monitor</em>. This is still the Nintendo Wii Fanboy Dojo update you know and love, even if today's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dojo">dojo</a> announcement falls squarely in the region of "<em>Dubya. Tee. Eff.</em>"<br /><br />Basically, <em>Brawl </em>will be shipping to stores with several "Masterpieces," disc-based trial versions of Virtual Console games. There's nothing too obscure in the selection revealed so far (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-bros"><em>Super Mario Bros.</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/17/dojo-update-ice-climbers-and-the-golden-hammer/"><em>Ice Climber</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda"><em>The Legend of Zelda</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/20/rumor-factor-5-developing-kid-icarus-on-the-wii/"><em>Kid Icarus</em></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirby%27s_Adventure"><em>Kirby's Adventure</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/20/vc-monday-madness-super-metroid-shinobi-iii-and-neutopia/"><em>Super Metroid</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/02/vc-monday-madness-star-fox-64-and-more/"><em>Star Fox 64</em></a>), but Sakurai has promised that more titles are on the way. Obviously, because they're trial versions, you can only play them for a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/gallery/ssbb-gallery-three/606478/">limited time</a> (though that may not deter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/24/super-mario-bros-in-less-time-than-it-takes-to-warm-up-a-lean-c/">some people</a>).<br /><br />You can view this feature in two ways, we suppose. Some will see it as a fitting tribute to the greatest videogame company of all time. Others might decipher this as a cynical piece of free advertising for the Virtual Console. As for us, we're just happy that new or younger players will be getting an insight into Nintendo's outstanding body of work. Just don't look at the games Japan is <a href="http://www.smashbros.com/jp/gamemode/various/various23.html">getting</a>. That would make you <em>angry</em>.<br /><br />
<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/dojo-update-masterpieces/">Dojo update: Masterpieces</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Jan 2008 12:00:00 EST. <br />Of all the new features <em>Brawl</em> will bring to the Smash Bros. table, the ability to fight opponents online is arguably the most eagerly anticipated. Still, some might argue that Nintendo just <em>ain't that great</em> at this online malarkey, and that <em>Brawl</em>'s Wi-Fi mode could be a big, fat fly in an otherwise quite lovely tub of ointment.
<p>Director Masahiro Sakurai is clearly aware of these concerns, because today's dojo update features footage of an online scrap between Nintendo's headquarters in Kyoto and the development team in Tokyo -- apparently, this is pretty close to the distance between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, which Google Maps tells us is 435 kilometers, or 270 miles. The resulting four-man online brawl looks <em>buttery-smooth</em> and fills us with hope.</p>

With five minutes of gameplay in this video, we're able to get a lot of practice-losing in.<br /><br />We already know that we have no chance against the legions of <em>Smash</em>-obsessed teens who will be online day and night, so we're going to try to be the best at <em>being totally dejected </em>about our losses. <br />It makes perfect sense: <em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl</em> is a game that oozes Nintendo from every pore. And if there's a level in gaming that is more quintessentially Nintendo than World 1-1 from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-bros"><em>Super Mario Bros.</em></a>, we have yet to see it. It is iconic.<br /><br />The Mushroomy Kingdom -- note the extra "y" -- is <em>Brawl</em>'s re-imagining of the most famous stage in Nintendo, nay, <em>videogame</em> history. It's not aged well, however. Nearly a quarter of a century has passed since Mario last visited 1-1, and it shows -- just look at the state of that flag. Some things haven't changed, though. As you fight, the stage still scrolls gently sideways, and every block and pit is still in place, just ... older. Better still, selecting this level may occasionally allow you the chance to visit <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ssbb-gallery-three/602489/">World 1-2</a>. As interesting as that is, we're going to shift things back to the new Pokemon included in <em>Smash Bros. Brawl</em>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ssbb-gallery-three/600761/">Manaphy</a> has a unique ability where it will swap the hearts of two combatants. What this does is cause them to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ssbb-gallery-three/600760/">switch bodies</a>, essentially changing your character should you get caught in Manaphy's ability. For example, you can see Zelda and DK <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ssbb-gallery-three/600762/">switching bodies here</a>.<br /><br />
<br />
<br /><a href="http://us.wii.com/iwata_asks/ssbb/vol1_page1.jsp">Read</a> - Iwata asks Sakurai<br /><a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/mball/mball09.html">Read</a> - Manaphy<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/22/dojo-update-manaphy-and-iwata-asks/">Dojo update: Manaphy and Iwata asks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Jan 2008 12:45:00 EST. <br />A Japanese magazine <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/corocoro-magazine-reveals-sheik-other-obvious-additions-to-braw/">revealed</a> that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/dojo-update-zelda-bio/">Zelda</a> would deploy Light Arrows for her Final Smash earlier this month, but today's dojo update is still worth a skim for those in search of greater detail, not to mention new screens of the move in action.<br /><br />You only get to fire a single Light Arrow as part of this Final Smash, so missing isn't the best idea (Sakurai hints that the Arrow will be easier to dodge in a one-on-one match). The good news is you can fire your precious projectile as either Zelda or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/16/dojo-update-another-character-unveiled/">Sheik</a>, with some aspects of the attack (such as the direction your opponent gets knocked in) changing, depending on who is used.<br /><br />One thing is true of both fighters, however: the Light Arrow packs some real punch if it does find its target. As Sakurai puts it, once characters are hit, they're "pretty much done for." Anyone tempted to give Zelda a whirl in <em>Brawl</em>?<br /><br />
<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/21/dojo-update-zeldas-final-smash/">Dojo update: Zelda's Final Smash</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Jan 2008 12:45:00 EST. This week's final dojo update reveals a bit more about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/15/dojo-update-stickers/">stickers</a> and how you'll utilize them in-game. Not merely just the decoration we thought them to be, they're also going to take on a functional use in the game by allowing you to use each of the sticker's power-up effects, which range from bolstering "the damage from fire-based attacks" to some that even keep you "from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/gallery/ssbb-gallery-three/595673/">flying as far</a> when you take a hit." Applying them is as easy as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ssbb-gallery-three/595674/">looking under</a> the base of a trophy.<br /><br />Sounds like <em>win</em> to us.<br /><br />
<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/18/dojo-update-sticker-power-ups/">Dojo update: Sticker power-ups</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jan 2008 18:00:00 EST. <br />It's been just over a week since we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/dojo-update-pikmin-and-olimar-join-the-cast/">discovered</a> Captain Olimar would be making his presence felt in <em>Brawl</em>, yet already we've learned more about his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/dojo-update-getting-the-most-from-your-pikmin/">capabilities</a> and his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/dojo-update-distant-planet/">stage</a> (which, by the way, looks pretty great). Today, we got the skinny on his Final Smash, titled "End of Day."<br /><br />Grab the Smash Ball as Olimar, and night immediately sets in. As in the Pikmin games, that's the signal for the diminutive cosmonaut to head to the safety of his ramshackle spaceship, so he can <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/gallery/ssbb-gallery-three/592779/">take to the night sky</a> and avoid the vicious beasts that lurk about on the ground below. Of course, his opponents <em>won't</em> have the same privilege, meaning they'll get chomped on by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/gallery/ssbb-gallery-three/592776/">hungry Bulborbs</a>, and suffer considerable damage in the process. There's even a spectacular coup de gr&acirc;ce to this Final Smash, with Olimar's ship crashing back to the stage seconds later <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ssbb-gallery-three/592782/">with a bang</a>, hurting any brawlers who are close by.<br /><br />Sakurai notes that End of Day won't deal as much damage in one-on-one scraps, but also points out that you're less likely to have your KO stolen in such a match (which seems pretty obvious, really, but we're not going to question the man).<br /><br />Anyway, that should be pretty much it for Olimar and his Pikmin chums; anybody else get the feeling that we're closing in on the end of dojo updates? We do, and this makes us sad pandas.<br /><br />
<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/17/dojo-update-lift-off/">Dojo update: Lift off!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jan 2008 11:15:00 EST. <br />Oh. It's ... Sheik. Everybody back to work! We're sorry, but you'll have to forgive our lack of surprise. You see, we already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/corocoro-magazine-reveals-sheik-other-obvious-additions-to-braw/">discovered </a>that Zelda's tomboy alter ego would be appearing in <em>Brawl</em>.<br /><br />Nevertheless, we did learn <em>some</em> new tidbits from today's dojo update. For example, we now know that swapping between Zelda to Sheik is <em>dead easy</em> -- it's allocated to the down special move -- and that there are benefits to using both. Apparently, the two are completely unique characters, and comparing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/sheikspecialmoves.jpg">Sheik's moveset</a> with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/zeldaspecialmoves.jpg">Zelda's</a> proves this to be true.<br /><br />Finally, if you're wondering where Sakurai and his team took the design for a <em>Twilight Princess</em>-era Sheik from (you'll recall that she doesn't appear in the game), it's taken from a bit of concept art that was drafted up during development. So now you know: at one point, Nintendo was kinda thinking about including Sheik in <em>Twilight Princess</em>, but never got around to doing so.<br />
