The price rockets in at $14.99.<br /><br /><em>The Master Levels</em> and <em>Final Doom</em> weren't included in the recent release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/doom-3-bfg-edition"><em>Doom 3: BFG Edition</em></a>. <em>Master Levels </em>contains 20 independently designed levels for <em>Doom 2</em> (21 if you're counting the secret level). <em>Final Doom</em> offers two standalone <em>Doom 2</em> mods, <em>The Plutonia Experiment</em> and <em>TNT Evolution</em>, and was officially distributed by Doom developer id Software back in 1996.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/20/doom-classic-complete-hits-psn-today-includes-master-levels-and/">Doom Classic Complete hits PSN today, includes Master Levels and Final Doom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Nov 2012 11:30:00 EST. According to publisher Bethesda this is not a bug.<br /><br />"<em>Doom</em> 1 and 2 are the same games that are currently available on Xbox Live. Installing <em>Doom BFG</em> files to the system's hard drive could cause a conflict with the existing XBLA game files," a Bethesda spokesperson told Joystiq. For fans, <em>Doom 3 BFG</em> is a package filled with memories of the franchise. Along with <em>Doom 3</em>, its expansions, and brand new 'Lost' missions, the BFG pack includes both <em>Doom </em>and <em>Doom 2</em>.<br /><br /><em>Doom 3 BFG </em>itself is not meant to be the original <em>Doom 3</em> experience with prettier textures and 3D support. "We made some slight improvements to the original game," id creative director Tim Willits told me after I got my hands on <em>Doom 3 BFG</em>'s '<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/02/the-lost-mission-of-doom-3-bfg-edition/">Lost Mission</a>' content. "Like the flashlight [which can be used in conjunction with your gun, unlike the original]. We made things a little bit brighter, we improved a lot of the character textures."<br /><br />BFG features tweaks throughout: slightly increased player speed, adjusted ammo and health, new soundscapes, and new auto-save and checkpoint features. "It plays better, it really does," Willits promises.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/">Doom 3 BFG Edition (QuakeCon 2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/#5189614"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/d31_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/#5189615"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/d32_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/#5189616"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/d33_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/#5189617"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/d34_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/doom-3-bfg-edition-quakecon-2012/#5189618"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/d35_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/04/get-your-nostalgia-to-mars-in-doom-3-bfg-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Get your nostalgia to Mars in Doom 3 BFG Edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/04/get-your-nostalgia-to-mars-in-doom-3-bfg-edition/">Get your nostalgia to Mars in Doom 3 BFG Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Aug 2012 18:30:00 EST. Landmark titles <em>DOOM</em> and <em>DOOM 2</em> received a USK 16+ rating in Germany today. Both titles were previously <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Department_for_Media_Harmful_to_Young_Persons#Legal_consequences">indexed</a> by the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Department_for_Media_Harmful_to_Young_Persons">BPjM</a>), which placed the games in the same commercially <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Department_for_Media_Harmful_to_Young_Persons#Legal_consequences">restrictive category</a> as porn.<br />
<br />
"We are obviously very pleased with their decision," Bethesda Softworks VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines told us this morning. "Can't give you details yet on when they will be available in Germany. We'll let everyone know as soon as we know."<br />
<br />
Hines explained that an appeal of the indexing is allowed after 10 years, with <em>DOOM</em> and <em>DOOM 2</em> having been released in 1993 and 1994, respectively. Publisher Bethesda Softworks, whose parent company <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/bethesda-parent-company-buys-id-software/">acquired</a> original developer id Software in 2009, figured it would take the shot.<br />
<br />
This is the latest classification surprise from Germany, which recently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/14/gears-of-war-3-classified-in-germany-without-edits/">rated <em>Gears of War 3</em></a>, after both the previous installments were indexed. Microsoft is currently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/16/microsoft-looking-into-gears-of-war-1-and-2-in-germany/">looking into</a> getting the first two games available in the country.<br />

So, you're disappointed that there wasn't any hot <em>Doom 4</em> news in yesterday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quakecon-2010">QuakeCon 2010</a> keynote. Buck up, bronco -- Steam recently knocked the price of <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sub/426/">every <em>Doom</em> game</a> in the store down by 66 percent, making it that much easier to drown your sorrows in pure, gib-filled nostalgia.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/13/quakecon-steam-sale-discounts-doom-titles-by-66-percent/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>QuakeCon Steam sale discounts Doom titles by 66 percent</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/13/quakecon-steam-sale-discounts-doom-titles-by-66-percent/">QuakeCon Steam sale discounts Doom titles by 66 percent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Aug 2010 19:40:00 EST. If your gut response to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/30/mega-man-goes-to-8-bit-hell-in-doom-2-mod/">Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch mod</a> for <em>Doom 2</em> revealed last November was one of overwhelming desire, prepare to be <em>satisfied</em>. A demo for MM8BDM was <a href="http://cutstuff.net/blog/?p=2218">recently released</a> by its creator, Mike Hill, and is now downloadable for free through the mod's official website. <br />
<br />
The download comes with four pixelated maps, five character skins and over 10 different weapon attachments based on actual powers from the <em>Mega Man</em> series. Unfortunately, these weapons can be picked up from set locations on each map -- we're not sure we'll appreciate them as much as we did when we were forced to pry them from the cold, dead hands of a bested Robot Master.<br />

With World Cup fever spreading absolutely everywhere -- not even <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B2LPxggvqY">Gandalf</a> is immune, it seems -- it's not surprising that it has bled into the world of video games. And no, we're not talking about the actual <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/2010-FIFA-World-Cup">World Cup video game</a>. We're talking, of course, about the vuvuzela, the <a href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hSeRAkAK4cXisfsJfGUIlPVLA5FAD9GIC3VG0">bane of ears worldwide</a>. If you thought the rocket launcher, or even the mighty BFG, were the best weapons in <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/doom-ii"><em>Doom 2</em></a>, think again. They don't hold a candle to the mighty vuvuzela.<br />
<br />
Okay, so it's probably just a re-skinned chaingun, but it's pretty funny. Check it out after the break. Just be sure to turn the volume down first.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/26/forget-the-bfg-the-vuvuzela-is-dooms-ultimate-weapon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Forget the BFG, the vuvuzela is Doom's ultimate weapon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/26/forget-the-bfg-the-vuvuzela-is-dooms-ultimate-weapon/">Forget the BFG, the vuvuzela is Doom's ultimate weapon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Jun 2010 04:00:00 EST. Three utterly disparate games on XBLA this Week. Whether you prefer blasting demons, transforming into aliens or ... rolling dice, there's something here for you. This week on <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xbla-in-brief">XBLA in Brief</a>, we try out <em>Voodoo Dice</em>, <em>Ben 10</em> and <em>Doom 2</em> -- a puzzle game, platformer and FPS, respectively. One important note: <em>Doom 2</em> is the only one with a chainsaw (as far as we know).<br />

Normally, voodoo isn't something to be taken lightly. As dear old pa liked to say, "Just because you don't believe in voodoo, it don't mean you laugh in the witch doctor's face." Wise words indeed, but then pappy didn't know about <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/v/voodoodicexbla/"><em>Voodoo Dice</em></a>, this week's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xbla">Xbox Live Arcade</a> release -- a puzzle game of sorts from Ubisoft and Exkee. All we really know is that it involves dice, includes single-player and multiplayer and will cost 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10). Thus far, it <em>appears</em> to be free of vengeful witch doctors itching for an excuse to zombify us, so <em>that's</em> a relief.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> This week's XBLA update will also include id's classic first-person shooter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/doom-2">Doom II</a></em>, as well as <em>Ben 10 Alien Force: The Rise of Hex</em> -- for 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" />  ($10) each.<br />

Professional level designer J.P. LeBreton's creativity can't just be contained by the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bioshock"><em>BioShock</em></a> franchise which his work has appeared in for the last three years. So, he recently exercised his craft in a fairly peculiar way -- by <a href="http://vectorpoem.com/news/?p=68">designing a <em>Doom 2</em> map </a>modeled after the two areas on which he served as lead designer for 2K's underseas adventure: Arcadia and the Farmer's Market.<br />
<br />
You can <a href="http://vectorpoem.com/arcadia/">download the map</a> directly from LeBreton's site. It comes bundled in a handy little .ZIP file which includes instructions on how to get it up and running on your modern gaming rig. If you're having trouble, just put the original <em>BioShock</em> in, and smear a thick sheen of petroleum jelly on your monitor.<br />

<em>Doom's</em> main character always seemed to be lacking that little extra something. Sure, he had a BFG 9000 and could battle demons with the best of 'em, but did he have a gun arm? How about a body covered by <em>totally sweet</em> blue metal armor? Didn't think so. And that makes all the difference in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man"><em>Mega Man</em></a> mod for <em>Doom 2</em>, created by Mike Hill of the UK. "I've been modding for <em>Doom</em> ever since I first got a hold of the PC version ... some may find it hard to believe that the <em>Doom</em> modding scene is still live and kicking after all these years," Hill told Joystiq.<br />
<br />
The 22-year-old built the mod (still in alpha) as an homage to "the time when I feel <em>Mega Man</em> was in full fruition: on the NES," harnessing not just 8-bit sprites for characters but for entire levels. Mike Hill's hope is that someday the mod will contain "all the levels and weapons from <em>Mega Man 1-6</em> (and maybe even <em>9</em>)," though, as of right now, he's still got a long way to go. "Right now the gameplay is a bit slow paced and unbalanced, and the maps are extremely difficult to navigate ... expect a more stable release some time next year." He promises more levels and more weapons in 2010, but we're hoping the power of Joystiq BioMass[TM] can spur Mike on to get us more <em>Mega Man</em> deathmatch asap. <a href="http://cutstuff.net/blog/?p=1677">Go forth and comment</a>, BioMass!<br />

<strong>Update:</strong> We've added a video of the mod in action just after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/30/mega-man-goes-to-8-bit-hell-in-doom-2-mod/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mega Man goes to 8-bit Hell in Doom 2 mod [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/30/mega-man-goes-to-8-bit-hell-in-doom-2-mod/">Mega Man goes to 8-bit Hell in Doom 2 mod [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Nov 2009 21:00:00 EST. Whilst roaming the halls of Quakecon and shooting everything in sight (with a camera), our friends at <a href="http://www.bigdownload.com">BigDownload</a> spotted a heretofore unannounced Xbox Live Arcade version of id Software's FPS classic, <em>Doom 2</em>. According to <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59971">Shacknews</a>, the downloadable title is set feature all of <em>Doom II</em>'s content, in addition to a new episode, 4-player local multiplayer and the usual online shootery. You can also expect an exciting doubling of barrels over the original <em>Doom</em> -- both of the exploding and shotgun varieties.<br /></div>
<br />Also spotted at Quakecon: a further proof of life from our long-anticipated friend, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Quake-Arena-Arcade/"><em>Quake Arena Arcade</em></a>!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/13/spotted-at-quakecon-doom-2-for-xbla/">Spotted at Quakecon: Doom II for XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Aug 2009 13:00:00 EST. We bet when you woke up this morning, "Playing a mod of <em>Doom 2</em>" was probably pretty low on the list of things you thought you'd be doing. But believe us when we tell you that you absolutely shouldn't miss out on <a href="http://action.mancubus.net/ad2free.htm"><em>Action DooM 2: Urban Brawl</em></a>. It's free, it doesn't require <em>Doom 2 </em>to run and it's really, really good. We swear.<br /><br />You play a washed up cop who's forced by tragedy to take to the streets and fight through an army of thugs. The story is related to you through <em>Sin City</em>-inspired cut scenes that have some of the best writing you'll see in a game this year. Yeah, we know, we found it pretty hard to believe too.<br /><br />As for the actual action, it's a beat 'em up/FPS hybrid, somewhere between <em>Double Dragon</em> and <em>Condemned</em>, with a colorful visual style that really pops despite the graphical limitations.<br /><br />We should say up front that it's pretty hard and doesn't make a lot of allowances for modern FPS conventions (you will, for example, have to press a button to enable mouse looking) but the whole package is so shockingly good we hope you won't let those hurdles keep you from the goodness within.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://ihavetheprincess.wordpress.com/2008/09/15/action-doom-2-released-honestly-fucking-amazing/">IHTP</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/15/the-joystiq-free-game-club-urban-brawl/">The Joystiq Free Game Club: Urban Brawl</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Sep 2008 20:00:00 EST. Recently <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/index.php/2007/01/04/more-doom-coming-to-the-xbox-360/">spotted</a> on the ESRB's <a href="http://www.esrb.org/index-js.jsp">website</a> were ratings for Xbox 360 versions of <em>Ultimate DOOM </em>and <em>Final DOOM</em> (they're both rated M by the way). <em>Ultimate Doom</em> is technically already available on Xbox Live Arcade, as it is merely <em>DOOM</em> with an added fourth episode, "Thy Flesh Consumed." Even though the Arcade rendition is known only as <em>DOOM</em>, it does contain the fourth episode. <em>Final DOOM</em>, on the other hand, would be a new entry on the Xbox 360. Containing 2 new 32 level episodes, "Evilution" and "The Plutonia Experiment," <em>Final DOOM</em> is an expansion of <em>DOOM II</em>.<br />
<br />
We like us some <em>DOOM</em>, and a new expansion -- especially with some good multiplayer maps -- would be welcome, but we'd rather see some other FPS action first. And since you asked, we'd like to put in our vote for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heretic_%28computer_game%29#Artifacts"><em>Heretic</em></a>. There's nothing quite like turning your opponent into a chicken, is there?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/04/rumor-xbla-is-doomed-again/">Rumor: XBLA is Doomed again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Jan 2007 17:30:00 EST.
