Double Fine discounts: Psychonauts, Iron Brigade, Stacking and more

No matter where you like to purchase your games, odds are you'll find a Double Fine game on discount right now. The developer has announced its entire catalogue is on sale across Steam, Xbox 360, Amazon and its own shop.

Discounts include Stacking and its DLC on Xbox Live Arcade, and both signed and stock copies of Brutal Legend on PS3 and Xbox 360 through the Double Fine Shop. Iron Brigade (formerly Trenched) is cheap on Steam and Xbox Live Arcade right now, and even Psychonauts is half-off through Steam and the Mac App store, and the soundtrack too.

We'd never tell you how to spend those hard-earned duckets you covet so much, but at least we can rest easy knowing you're not spending as much as you normally would.

Double Fine's Happy Action Theater getting a sequel, playable at PAX

We've known that Double Fine was working on a sequel to the Kinect showcase Happy Action Theater since this SF Weekly piece on Tim Schafer and company back in May. But it looks like the curtain is about to pull back on the game, which Double Fine reportedly expects to have out later on this year.

Giant Bomb's Ryan Davis said in a tweet that Double Fine would be sharing more details on the title this Friday. And a mention in Double Fine's latest update on its Kickstarter-backed adventure game says that "Happy Action TV" will be playable at PAX at the end of the month. The first game in the series was a magical bit of Kinect-enabled fun, and so we'll look forward to seeing what other crazy ideas for Kinect's camera are coming out of Tim Schafer's playground.

PSA: Double Fine's Happy Action Theater available now

Given the joyous nature of Double Fine's latest, we figured a friendly reminder was in order. Happy Action Theater is now available on Xbox Live, reining in 18 different Kinect mini-games and supporting up to six simultaneous players. You can pick up your ticket (it's a theater, get it?) for $10.

Double Fine Happy Action Theater pulls back the curtain Feb. 1

When a Double Fine rep told us to expect Double Fine Happy Action Theater in February, we didn't really expect it to be the first day of the month, but here we are. Imagine our surprise when Tim Schafer announced the Feb. 1 launch date on Twitter earlier today.

Double Fine head honcho Schafer neglected to include pricing in the Tweet. A rep at CES did tell us it would cost a "reasonable" price. Sadly, that's more of a concept and less of a real, actual price.

We've contacted Double Fine and will update this post accordingly.

Double Fine's Happy Action Theater conjures up Kinect magic

Double Fine's next project, Happy Action Theater, just appeared on the floor of CES, right on time according to Tim Schafer's Twitter account. The game, available in February for what a Microsoft rep called a "reasonable" price, is basically a collection of 18 different minigames, featuring sandbox-style fun for the younger audience.

But don't let that tame description fool you: Happy Action Theater isn't just a standard minigame collection made for kids. Instead, it appears to be one of the best experiences on Kinect yet, and a perfect marriage of Double Fine's expertise at finding almost instant fun, and its skill at wringing some impressive feats out of that Kinect camera.

Double Fine Happy Action Theater premieres in February

To say we were taken aback when Double Fine unveiled its Kinect-exclusive Xbox Live Arcade game, Double Fine Happy Action Theater, is an understatement. It was due in 2011 but saw a delay, and now it's gearing up to launch next month.

Our man on the ground at CES 2012, Mike Schramm, confirmed the news with a Double Fine representative. Yet, with a February launch planned, why wasn't the game part of next month's House Party promotion? "I would've loved to see it in House Party," the rep told Joystiq. Seems like a perfect fit to us, though the representative went on to say that the target audience for Double Fine Happy Action Theater is between ages 2 and 12, and the target demographic for the House Party promotion is a bit older. We should hope so -- best not to let your kids play Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

Double Fine Happy Action Theater features 18 different mini-games, including some clones of classic titles Space Invaders and Breakout. Mike was able to spend some time with the game and will be posting a preview soon, so keep your eye out for that. In the meanwhile, we suggest watching the debut trailer about a hundred more times.

Pixar's 'Rush,' new Sesame Street game coming to Kinect (for kids)

Microsoft's latest batch of kid-friendly Kinect games includes projects developed in collaboration with Disney Pixar, Sesame Workshop, National Geographic and the Games for Learning Institute. Wow. Back in our day, we had to make do with The Castle of Dr. Brain.

Disney Pixar's game, codenamed "Rush," will scan and deposit you and your diminutive kin into the wonderful worlds seen in five Pixar movies: The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, Toy Story 3 and Cars 2. It sounds like you can expect some minigames while you're in there, though Microsoft prefers to call them "exciting challenges." (One of them is pictured above.)

Kinect Sesame Street TV purveys basic education in the best way possible: via adorable muppets, with Sesame Street footage filmed specifically for Xbox 360. Kinect will also host Kinect Nat Geo TV, which lets you interact with the natural world as an animal (in case you've grown tired of being a hedgehog all the time), and a game tentatively called "Project Columbia." It's proposed as a way to immerse young gamers in books, pairing storytelling with interactive music and illustrations.

We'll see more of these projects before they start arriving in Spring 2012. Another game, Double Fine's Happy Action Theater, is due this holiday. You'll just have to see the trailer to understand its insane exuberance.

You heard that correctly, though that's obviously not the only thing happening in this trailer for Double Fine's newest cavalcade of Kinect funtimes. There's also ball kicking, and fireworks, and dancing, and hot lava! Pretty much everything you need to know about Happy Action Theater is here, although you haven't really seen the game sold until you see someone pull a Terminator 2.

Double Fine Happy Action Theater will release ~~next year~~ this holiday on Xbox Live, courtesy of Microsoft Studios.
