Because he <em>totally is. </em>He recently <a href="http://www.drphil.com/slideshows/slideshow/4149/?id=4149&amp;isTip=&amp;slide=1&amp;null=null">used his acumen</a> with the genre to help 13-year-old Lexie break her addiction to <a href="http://www.there.com/"><em>There</em></a>. (Hey, is it an MMO if you're the only one still playing it?)<br /><br />Watch here as the doctor explains online microtransactions in the game. "You pay this money with a credit card, and then you get credit, and then you can use that to buy things to furnish your house," Dr. Phil observes. "The stuff that you're buying, you don't really have anything. You just have a picture or something on your computer." Do you see? Do you see how he cuts to the quick of it? We're totally enjoying CBS' coverage of <em>Manhunt 2</em>. After Katie Couric's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/mainstream-tv-news-covers-manhunt-2/">eye-roll inducing <em>Notebook</em> entry</a> two days ago, the odiously designed CBS.com site bubbles up a clip of Dr. Phil with <em>Early Show</em> host Harry Smith and journalist Scott Steinberg. We're sorry, but just try not to laugh as Smith introduces Dr. Phil to the show and Steinberg starts flailing the Wiimote trying to execute the guy on screen. Of course, you'll have to <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/i_video/main500251.shtml?id=3435310n">go to CBS.com to watch it</a>. We're sorry, but the networks haven't discovered the basics of embeddable code.<br /><br />Dr. Phil is far more careful here then the last time he talked about <a href="http://gamepolitics.com/2007/04/17/dr-phil-blames-video-games-for-virginia-tech-massacre/">video game violence's effect on children</a> during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/VirginiaTech/">Virginia Tech massacre</a> -- probably because his hypothesis was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/no-video-games-found-in-vt-shooters-dorm/">dead wrong</a> last time and he <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/30/virginia-finds-no-link-between-violent-games-and-v-tech-mu/">looked like a total (insult of choice goes here)</a>. Dr. Phil says about <em>Manhunt 2</em>, "Now the truth is, if somebody plays this game and then they go and do this in their life, there was something seriously wrong with them before they got the game. But it's modeling." We'd prefer if the mainstream media did a simple PSA and told parents not to let their children play M-rated games instead of all this fear mongering.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gamepolitics.com/2007/11/01/dr-phil-weighs-in-on-manhunt-2/">GamePolitics</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/dr-phil-talks-manhunt-but-steinberg-steals-the-show/">Dr. Phil talks Manhunt, but Steinberg steals the show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Nov 2007 16:20:00 EST. Dr. Phil and a certain <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/04/jack-thompsons-further-florida-bar-issues/">Floridiot lawyer</a> were two of the loudest voices, while an article in the online version of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/18/wapo-writer-talks-vt-shooter-counter-strike-connection-removal/"><em>Washing Post</em> briefly mentioned</a> Cho was a <em>Counter-Strike</em> player in high school. Not a big deal in our eyes, but to the general public if Cho even <em>looked</em> at a video game, it's case-closed.<br /><br />After police searched Cho's dorm room, however, it seems he didn't own any video games at all. No <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/10/manhunt-2-on-wii-a-true-murder-simulator/">murder simulators</a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/14/columbine-game-scapegoated-for-montreal-shootings/">gun training programs</a>, not even a copy of <em>Tetris</em>. If <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/18/limbaugh-dont-scapegoat-games-for-vt-massacre/">video games didn't teach him these skills</a>, where did they come from?! Oh noes!<br /><br />We've posted <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/18/what-i-know-about-violent-games/">our feelings about violent video games</a>. Hopefully this lack of evidence will silence the anti-gaming pundits for a while.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/19/no-video-games-found-in-vt-shooters-dorm/">No video games found in VT shooter's dorm</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Apr 2007 08:59:00 EST.
