<br />Nintendo plans to confront the ailing economy head-on ... by making <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/28/ds-novel-coming-to-europe-as-100-classic-book-collection/"><em>100 Classic Book Collection</em></a> really cheap! As with many of its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/patrick-stewart-to-star-in-new-ds-ads-make-it-so/">Touch! Generations</a> titles, Nintendo has confirmed a budget price point of &pound;19.99 for the game, and a UK release date of December 26.<br /><br />If, like us, you've been keeping one eye on the game's <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/100-Classic-Book-Collection-Nintendo/dp/B001LK6XKE">Amazon listing</a> (which has had that date for a while, but it's nice to get official confirmation, right?), you'll know you can get it <em>even cheaper</em>: just &pound;14.99 (just over $22). That's under fifteen pence a book! Fifteen pence for portable copies of <em>Sense and Sensibility</em>, <em>Treasure Island</em>, <em>Moby Dick</em>, and a wealth of Shakespeare and Dickens (there's a full list after the break) sounds like a bargain to us.* The pound is currently <a href="http://www.xe.com/">weak</a>, so anybody thinking of importing?<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/100-classic-books-for-under-20-british-pounds/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>100 Classic Books for under 20 British Pounds</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/100-classic-books-for-under-20-british-pounds/">100 Classic Books for under 20 British Pounds</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Dec 2008 12:30:00 EST. It seemed likely that the title would be a localized version of the hit literature collection <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2007/10/24/books-on-your-ds-hands-on-ds-bungaku-zenshuu/"><em>DS Bungaku Zenshuu</em></a> -- and it is!<br /><br />Rather than translating 100 Japanese novels, which would have been pretty dang cool, the UK release of <em>100 Classic Book Collection</em> (as it is now known) features works from writers like Jane Austen, all three Brontes, Charles Dickens, Shakespeare, and other favorites whose works happen to be in the public domain. The full list of novels is available at the cart's <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/100-Classic-Book-Collection-Nintendo/dp/B001LK6XKE">Amazon listing</a>. <span style="font-style: italic;"></span>10 more books will be made available over Wi-Fi.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">100 Classic Book Collection</span> also features book search, custom recommendations, and a bookmarking feature. It should be interesting to see if Nintendo polish (implemented by developer Genius Sonority) can make this competitive with the free <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/moonbooks">Moon Books Project</a> (a project which, by the way, has had a pretty rough time <a href="http://moonbooks.net/">lately</a>).<br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=64460">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/28/ds-novel-coming-to-europe-as-100-classic-book-collection/">DS Novel coming to UK as 100 Classic Book Collection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Nov 2008 11:00:00 EST. <br />A new batch of European release dates has suddenly materialized from Nintendo, and is packed with all sorts of exciting confirmations. The most thrilling, for us at least, is the news that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/04/2008s-biggest-blips-flower-sun-and-rain-the-silver-case/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Flower, Sun, and Rain</span></a> will be getting that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/flower-sun-and-rain-rumored-for-europe/">rumored</a> European release this October, followed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/rumor-rising-star-bringing-the-pain/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Lux Pain</span></a> in November. If you want to know where to send your effusive "thank you" letters, Rising Star are the ones in charge of localizing both titles. Other items of interest include a specific launch date for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/european-dates-for-etrian-odyssey-lol-pokemon-explorers/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Bakushow</span></a>, and Euro versions of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/13/a-better-look-at-corocoro-comics-pokemon-platinum-reveal/">Pok&eacute;mon Platinum</a></em> (big surprise, right?) and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dungeonmaker/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Dungeon Maker</span></a>.<br /><br />But here's a question: what's with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/rumor-europe-to-get-books-on-its-dses/"><span style="font-style: italic;">DS Novel</span></a>? It's been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/26/updated-multi-region-release-lists-software-sales/">hanging around</a> on these lists for the best part of eight months now, and we're still no nearer to learning a release date or <span style="font-style: italic;">what it even is</span>. Check out the full list for yourselves past the break!<br /><br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/21/flowers-dungeons-and-pain-confirmed-for-europe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Flowers, Dungeons, and Pain confirmed for Europe</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/21/flowers-dungeons-and-pain-confirmed-for-europe/">Flowers, Dungeons, and Pain confirmed for Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 May 2008 15:00:00 EST. Regular readers of our sister site, <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com">Wii Fanboy</a>, will probably already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/nintendo-says-kirby-animal-crossing-super-mario-stadium-this-y/">know</a> how an investor report revealed that Kirby and Animal Crossing games for the Wii were still on for a 2008 release in Japan.<br /><br />Fortunately, Siliconera's hawk-eyed Spencer Yip spotted something for DS owners, tucked away near the bottom of the list: <em>DS Novel</em>. It's only listed for Europe currently, but could this be an English language localization of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/kjshjd_093.jpg"><em>DS Bungaku Zenshuu</em></a>, the non-game that crammed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/20/i-read-the-classics-of-japanese-literature-and-all-i-got-was-thi/">100 Japanese literary classics</a> onto a single DS cart? Spencer certainly thinks so, and we're struggling to imagine what else it could be.<br /><br />If this guess turns out to be correct, would you embrace this as a revolution in reading, or stick to traditional, more dog-eared methods? More to the point, which books would you want to read on your DS?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/rumor-europe-to-get-books-on-its-dses/">Rumor: Europe to get books on its DSes?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Jan 2008 22:30:00 EST. For a lot of us, this updated list of current and forthcoming "primary" Nintendo releases doesn't offer much, but for European gamers, there's a lot to speculate on. We keep seeing this <span style="font-style: italic;">DS Novel</span> pop up, but what exactly is it? When it's shown up before on lists, there was also a "temporary title" tag attached, but no longer, though other titles on the list are tagged as such. Is it settled? Is it just the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/e-books-get-massive-subway-ads-in-tokyo/">e-book reader</a>? <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/15/never-coming-to-the-us-japanese-literature-on-the-ds/">Literature-themed</a> nongame? Sounds like it might be worth importing for litgeeks in the rest of the world. If you know something we poor Americans don't, please clue us in!<br /><br />In other news, <span style="font-style: italic;">Nintendogs</span> continues to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/ninty_sales_reports_1026.jpg">lead the pack</a> among DS titles in sales, with <span style="font-style: italic;">Pok&eacute;mon</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">New Super Mario Bros.</span> lagging a little behind. Unsurprisingly, the phenomenal <span style="font-style: italic;">Brain Age</span> duo keeps churning out the dollars as well.<br /><br />To see the full list of releases, check after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/26/updated-multi-region-release-lists-software-sales/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Updated multi-region release lists, software sales</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/26/updated-multi-region-release-lists-software-sales/">Updated multi-region release lists, software sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Oct 2007 15:40:00 EST.
