That's just fine, since a controller based on <em>that</em> game would probably be covered in fungus. <br />
Dancing Pixel Studios has heard the call of people looking for traditional control input on touch-based devices. The studio has released a new app for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/android">Android</a> devices called <em>Sixaxis Controller</em> -- guess what it does? Yup, it allows you to use your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sixaxis">Sixaxis</a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dualshock-3">DualShock 3</a> controller on Android phones and tablets. (Great guess!)<br />
<br />
Of course, it's not that simple: The app only works on <a href="http://lifehacker.com/5789397/the-always-up+to+date-guide-to-rooting-any-android-phone">rooted Android</a> devices and is largely incompatible with HTC and some newer Samsung hardware. Also, there are some other steps one must take prior to enjoying this tryst, like connecting the device to a Windows PC with a USB cable. But if you do get it up and running, you can connect up to four controllers to one device and custom configure your buttons.<br />
<br />
You can purchase <em>Sixaxis Controller</em> from the Android marketplace right now for $1.67, but we'd suggest trying Dancing Pixel's other free app first, <a href="https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscompatibilitychecker"><em>Sixaxis Compatibility Checker</em></a>, to see if your hardware is up to snuff.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/09/sixaxis-controller-app-lets-controllers-and-certain-android-devi/">Sixaxis Controller app lets controllers and certain Android devices play nice together</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 00:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/infamous-2"><em>Infamous 2</em></a> is coming out in the UK, Germany and Ireland on June 10, and the rest of Europe on June 8. Yes, we usually make a bigger deal out of release dates than just dropping them all plain-like in the first sentence like that, but we need as much space as we can get to explain the different bundles available to European shoppers. No joke, you guys: There are <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/05/17/infamous-2-pal-release-date-confirmed-8th-10th-june/">five different versions</a> of Sucker Punch's dichotomous action title available in Europe's shops.<br />
<br />
So, there's the basic, vanilla flavored standard edition, the Special Edition (which includes extra powers and an "Original Cole" character skin) and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/18/infamous-2-release-date/">Hero Edition</a> (which includes a lot of things, including a replica messenger bag). However, Europe also gets a bundle that includes the game and a "good" blue or "evil" red DualShock 3 controller, as well as a 320GB PS3 bundle. No prices have been announced for the bundles, but really, what price is too high for premium crimefighting? Or ... um, <em>crimemaking</em>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/17/infamous-2-hits-europe-june-8-coming-in-so-so-many-bundles/">Infamous 2 hits Europe June 8, coming in so, so many bundles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 May 2011 10:00:00 EST. Well, we'd like to see you get even, and today's announcement and (free) release of <em>Buzz!: Quiz Player</em>, previously <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/13/esrb-outs-buzz-quiz-player-for-ps3/">outed by the ESRB</a>, seems like a good start.<br />
<br />
<em>Quiz Player</em> features 90 sample questions in the free base app launching on PSN today, plus classic <em>Buzz!</em> staples like Point Builder, Fastest Finger, Point Stealer and Final Countdown. The game supports the traditional <em>Buzz! </em>controllers <em>and</em> DualShock 3s -- which is most welcome, since it allows <em>everyone</em> a chance at those those quiz night know-it-alls. Honestly, they have it coming. <br />
<br />
Vendettas aside, other question packs will be available through in-game purchase, covering such topics as Comedy, Rock Legends, Space and U.S. Sports, <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/12/21/buzz-quiz-player-delivers-free-fun-today-with-facebook-integration-dualshock-support/">according to</a> associate producer Jenny Barbour, who also confirmed Facebook integration. Though, the feature questionably involves publishing your game details online. You wouldn't want your Facebook friends to find out you had no idea which volcano leveled Pompeii in 74 AD, would you?<br />

Did you know that the PSP Go allows you to tether a PS3 controller to the handheld, effectively doing away with the portable nature of the device but arguably improving the <em>feel</em> of its controls? Maybe you didn't, largely because using a separate controller for a handheld device would be ... weird. Peripheral manufacturer <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/10/04/gametech-bear-has-an-accessory-that-tethers-a-ps3-controller-to-a-pspgo/">Gametech Bear has come up with</a> a way around this phenomenon -- it's created a device which physically adheres the PSP Go to a DualShock 3.<br />
<br />
Gametech plans to release the peripheral by the end of the year in Japan at a price point of 2,980 yen (or $36). Though it actually attaches the controller to the handheld, you still have to use a Bluetooth connection to tether the two devices. Here's hoping it doesn't interfere with your DualShock 3's Bluetooth connection to your top-of-the-line FutureToaster.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/05/new-gametech-bear-peripheral-sticks-your-dualshock-3-to-a-psp-go/">New Gametech Bear peripheral sticks your DualShock 3 to a PSP Go</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Oct 2010 03:00:00 EST. Fans of <em>lighter</em> shades of red will be pleased to hear that the typically no-nonsense black (or blue!) DualShock 3 controller will be getting a somewhat whimsical pink paint job later this month. According to a recent <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=78651">Gamestop listing</a>, the wireless controller will retail for the standard $55 and is expected to hit store shelves on September 21.<br />
<br />
The listing adds this model is "perfect for female gamers and households with kids," though that statement is rather narrow-minded -- don't you think? It's like, if we were to draw a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venn_diagram">Venn diagram</a> including "ladies" and "people who would want to play games with a pink controller," there'd probably be a surprisingly small amount of overlap, and then, slightly adjacent to that overlap, there'd be an even smaller circle <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLRLhV9U0kQ">representing Steven Tyler</a>.<br />
<br />

Don't feel like paying the $30 asking price for a PlayStation Move Navigation Controller? There is a cheaper (albeit less comfortable) solution: just use the DualShock controller. At an E3 presentation about the Move, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/playstation-move-bonus-round-move-party-hands-on-and-interview/">Anton Mikhailov</a> confirmed that the two controllers are interchangeable.<br />
<br />
This method of control was actually used at Tokyo Game Show last year, to demonstrate the newly implemented motion controls of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/25/tgs-2009-motion-controlled-resident-evil-5-caught-on-video/"><em>Resident Evil 5</em></a>. While using the DualShock may not be the most attractive way to play, it's certainly nice to know that you have an option to avoid the cost of entry.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/move-navigation-controller-can-be-replaced-by-dualshock/">Move Navigation Controller can be replaced by DualShock</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Jun 2010 20:20:00 EST. First-party PS3 controllers are still retailing at the relatively lofty price point of $45 (plus tax!) -- wouldn't you rather pay just a <em>little bit</em> more and get a game to go along with your peripheral? Amazon will give you the opportunity to do just that with a selection of $60 bundles, which include a DualShock 3 controller and your choice of "Greatest Hit" in <em><a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003I83VMU/ref=nosim/mmbevigaotst-20">LittleBigPlanet: GOTY Edition</a></em>, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003L4ZU7K/ref=nosim/mmbevigaotst-20"><em>Resistance 2</em></a>, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003L4WP32/ref=nosim/mmbevigaotst-20"><em>Killzone 2</em></a> or <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003L4ZU9I/ref=nosim/mmbevigaotst-20"><em>inFamous</em></a>.<br />
<br />
These pairings seem to be an extension of the <em>Uncharted</em>/DualShock bundle <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/01/amazon-lists-uncharted-dualshock-3-combo-pack/">offered</a> last December. Like the <em>Uncharted</em> deal, these bundles will likely be available at a number of other retailers -- but we've highlighted Amazon because it offers free shipping!<br />

Look, if for some crazy reason you've <em>still</em> not gotten yourself a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dualshock3">DualShock 3</a> and, even <em>crazier</em>, haven't played through <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/uncharted-drakes-fortune"><em>Uncharted: Drake's Fortune</em></a>, then you might want to check out <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002Y2WBCM?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B002Y2WBCM">this Amazon bundle</a> -- which is set to release December 15. <br /> <br /> For $60, you'll get a black DualShock 3 controller and experience every earth-shaking explosion in Nathan Drake's first adventure through glorious rumble or -- given the time of year -- gift your procrastinator friend or loved one with one sweet bundle, granted they haven't already acquired a new console in the last year or a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ps3-slim">PS3 Slim</a>. <br /> <br /> There's no word whether Sony will offer other bundles and together the two will only save you $7 right now (Amazon is pricing the game at $27 and the controller at $40), but we still wouldn't suggest playing <em>Uncharted</em> without a DualShock 3. <strong>Update:</strong> This contest is officially closed and the winners will be notified shortly. Please check your email inboxes, folks!<br />
<br />
With the holiday game release season officially upon us, it's quite possible that you'll find yourself (like us) jammed on a couch next to relatives who - at least passingly - show interest in the video games we know and love. Sometimes, these folks even ask to play alongside us, eschewing their morals for <em>entertainment</em> (for shame!). It's during these times that we reach for our second or third controller. But what if you only have one controller for your PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360? WHAT THEN?! Then you can turn to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/swag-saturday">Swag Saturday</a> for the possibility of winning one! <br />
<br />
We've got one <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/06/25/silver-dualshock-3-controllers-now-available-at-gamestop/">silver PS3 DualShock 3</a> and two <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/11/halo-3-odst-wireless-controller-is-gamestop-exclusive/"><em>Halo 3: ODST</em> limited edition controllers</a> to give away to three lucky readers. All you have to do is tell us a story about gaming with family during past holidays in the comments below. We get your crazy stories, you get our fancy controllers - talk about a win-win! Prize winners will be alerted by email early this week, so keep your ear to the internet, folks.<br />
<ul>
    <li>Leave a comment telling us a story about gaming with family during past holidays.</li>
    <li>You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec, based on the outcome of the War of 1812)</li>
    <li><strong>Limit 1 entry per person per day</strong></li>
    <li>This entry period ends at <strong>6:31PM ET on Sunday, November 15<br />
    </strong></li>
    <li>At that time, we'll randomly select three winners to receive one PS3 DualShock 3 (estimated $55 ARV) or one of two <em>Halo 3: ODST</em> limited edition Xbox 360 controllers (estimated $50 ARV each).</li>

With the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/white-dualshock-3-already-in-the-us-photo-says-yes-sony-says-n/">white DualShock 3</a> already available, it's time to show true American patriotism with the purchase (consumerism!) of the red and blue DualShock 3s <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/28/sonys-new-red-and-blue-dualshock-3-controllers-bleed-american/">being released this October</a>. The same show of pride also applies to the French, British, and Russians. Just want two controllers? Well, that's fine if you're Canadian or Argentinian. <div align="left">We first saw evidence that Sony might be planning to expand the selection of DualShock 3 colors in the US last month, when retailer GameStop <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/silver-dualshock-3-controller-spotted-at-gamestop/">listed a silver version of the controller</a> for release on June 24. Now we have a photo, via a tipster, of what's purportedly a US model of the white DualShock 3 already available in Japan -- purchased at a Wal-Mart in Florida. Henry, who sent in the photo, says it was the only one left at the store where he bought it. He also included additional pics showing the rest of the seemingly North American packaging, complete with bilingual English / French adorning the front and back. <br /><br />Naturally, we got in touch with Sony to ask about this find ... and were told it doesn't exist. Specifically, when we inquired whether this was some sort of "stealth" release, an SCEA hardware PR rep told us, "<font face="sans-serif" size="2">We have no plans to release a white Dualshock 3.</font>" No plans? Did someone not get the memo, or, as our tipster suggests, accidentally ship out something that's not due to be announced until E3?<br /><br />This is where you come in. If you spot a white, official first-party DualShock 3 in US packaging, send us a photo along with info on when and where you saw it. Better yet, if you find and <em>buy one</em>, send us a photo of the receipt, too. You know <a href="mailto:tips@joystiq.com?subject=White%20US%20DualShock%203%20sighting">how to reach us</a>.<br /><br />[Thanks, Henry!]<br /><br /></div>

Tired of your black DualShock 3 controller? Well, it looks like SCEA may finally start introducing new colors of the rumble-ready PS3 controller. Games retailer <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=74491&amp;affID=77777&amp;sourceID=aOUs5qjvzDc-fllkFPwhLC9QWr4yzC0KJA">GameStop</a> now features a listing for a silver DualShock 3 controller, with a MSRP of $54.99 and a June 24th release.<br /><br />A retail listing is far from official confirmation, but GameStop has been a rather reliable source of early product listings. We're all for controller color diversity, so we're hoping this one is real.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=358832">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/silver-dualshock-3-controller-spotted-at-gamestop/">Silver DualShock 3 controller spotted at GameStop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Apr 2009 15:00:00 EST. People have been using <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/09/quick-guide-on-how-to-use-your-sixaxis-on-the-pc/">Sixaxis controllers on PCs</a> for a long time now. But, what about DualShock 3s with rumble support? Apparently, it's now possible. A Japanese coder has released four drivers which allow Windows users to play games on PC with a DS3, tweak some of the controller parameters and subsequently employ rumble. It sounds like a fun experiment to play around with, though, from the looks of it, the driver menus are mostly in Japanese. <div align="left">Not liking the clutter of USB cables used to charge your controllers in front of your PS3? Psyclone has a more elegant solution for you -- their TouchCharge kit allows you to charge two DualShock 3/SIXAXIS controllers on a contact-based charge pad via one AC adapter. <br /><br />Unlike the version Psyclone offers for the Xbox 360 and the Wii, no third-party battery is required as the pad is able to charge the battery inside the official controllers. Those of you with only two USB ports can now rejoice -- Sony is releasing the above AC Adapter for the Japanese market on December 18th for 2,800 yen (about $28 USD). This peripheral will allow you to charge your DualShock 3/SIXAXIS controllers or any other accessories independent of your PS3, thereby freeing up those precious USB ports. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/wireless-keypad-attachment-revealed-for-ps3/">wireless keypad</a> will also debut in Japan on the same day for 5,500 yen (about $55 USD). Keep in mind prices in Japan tend to be higher, so when these products debut in the US, they will likely retail for less.<br /><br /> [Via <a href="http://japanese.engadget.com/2008/10/09/tgs-2008-ps3-ac/">Engadget Japanese</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/10/ps3-peripheral-charging-ac-adapter-announced/">PS3 peripheral charging AC adapter announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Oct 2008 11:00:00 EST. Famitsu reports (via <a href="http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/917/917301p1.html?RSSwhen2008-10-08_000600&amp;RSSid=917301">IGN</a>) that Sony will release the 80GB PS3 in Japan for the same price as the current 40GB model. For a limited time the company will also include <em>Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Spec III</em> with the system.<br /><br />Sony will also offer an 80GB PS3 <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/littlebigplanet"><em>LittleBigPlanet</em></a> bundle with extra <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/dualshock-3">DualShock 3</a> controller for about $50 more than the standard 80GB version. The company also plans to have a <em>LittleBigPlanet</em> and DualShock 3 bundle for about $80. All the new 80GB models, including the <em>LBP</em> controller bundle, will be offered in black, white and silver color varieties (already available for the 40GB as well). Remember, all this information applies only to Japan, so don't go thinking it's going to be a white 80GB PS3 Christmas.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/80gb-ps3-releasing-in-japan-with-bundles-various-colors/">80GB PS3 releasing in Japan with bundles, various colors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 09:30:00 EST. It was a sad day indeed when the rumor that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/eternal-sonata"><span style="font-style: italic;">Eternal Sonata</span></a> might not see the light of day outside of Japan. Thankfully, that rumor may be just another one to stick on the "Not Gonna Happen" pile, as the game has been spotted on the official UK DualShock 3 compatibility list. The list itself was updated on July 8th, only two days ago, along with a whole host of games including some which are due to come out in the next year or so, such as <span style="font-style: italic;">Edge Of Twilight</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Brutal Legend</span>.<br /><br />Does this mean it's headed West at some point in the future? Our guess is yes, which really makes our day (as if the iPhone launch wasn't enough). Hopefully an official announcement will be made by Namco Bandai soon. Wait, what's that just around the corner? E3? Fingers crossed.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?p=3068205">PS3Forums</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/eternal-sonata-added-to-uk-ds3-compatibility-list/">Eternal Sonata added to UK DS3 compatibility list</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jul 2008 22:30:00 EST. We've just received word from Sony that the long-awaited European release of the DualShock 3 is coming soon. We'll have our hands clasped around the buzzing wonders from Friday the 4th of July and they will cost &pound;39.99 (we've requested a price in Euros too, because we know how much you love those). <br /><br />There's no word on whether any different colours will be available, so we're going to assumed that you'll have a choice between black and black. You can count on SCEE to announce something so long-awaited without a modicum of pomp or ceremony. Despite the lack of a fanfare, we're happy to see DualShock 3s finally becoming standard everywhere in the world. All that's left is to phase out the SIXAXIS models and start bundling DS3s with all PS3s. Here's hoping.<br /><br /><strong>[UPDATE] </strong>To clarify: DualShock 3s will be made available on the 2nd of July on the Continent and on the 4th of July in the UK.<br /><br />[Via Press Release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/dualshock-3s-available-this-friday-in-europe/">DualShock 3's available this Friday in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Jun 2008 05:30:00 EST. Apparently, rumble does matter to a lot of Americans. <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/sony-dualshock-3-rakes-in-109-million-in-april/?biz=1">According to SCEA</a>, the feedback-giving DualShock 3 had $10.9 million in sales during the month of April, meaning that about 200,000 Americans were ready to put down $55 for some vibration from their PS3 controller.<br /><br />As we learned from our initial <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/joystiq-impressions-dualshock-3/">impression</a> of the DualShock 3: Yes, it's worth it. We do know that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/sony-pulling-plug-on-sixaxis/">Sixaxis is on its way out</a>, but at this point only the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/02/save-the-sixaxis-new-mgs4-welcome-box-bundles-announced/">MGS bundles</a> come with the DS3. We're still waiting for the "official" changeover to occur with regular PS3 consoles.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/">DualShock 3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/#664257"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dualshock-3-controller-01a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/#664258"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dualshock-3-controller-02a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/#664259"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dualshock-3-controller-03a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/#664260"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dualshock-3-controller-04a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/#664261"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dualshock-3-controller-05a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/dualshock-3-shakes-down-us-for-10-9-million-in-april/">DualShock 3 shakes down US for $10.9 million in April</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 May 2008 09:10:00 EST. Not one to sit back and let the Sixaxis suffer into extinction, Sony Japan will carefully package the feathery gamepad into a trifecta of new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mgs4/"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em></a> bundles. Dubbed the "Welcome Box," the new limited edition bundle will be offered in three standard flavors (Clear Black, Ceramic White and Satin Silver) and will include a 40GB console, rumblin' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dualshock-3">DualShock 3</a> and copy of <em>MGS4</em> -- oh, and yes, one's very own Sixaxis. The Welcome Box (shouldn't it be "<em>Goodriddance Box</em>?") will be made available in concurrence with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/metal-gear-solid-4-coming-june-12-confirms-konami/">worldwide release</a> of <em>MGS4</em> on June 12 for a reasonable &yen;49,800 (roughly $470). Comparatively, the "Hagane" Grey <em>MGS4</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/steel-a-proper-glance-at-mgs4-ps3-bundle/">bundle</a> will retail for &yen;51,800; and so essentially, Sony's offering a savings of &yen;2,000 (about $20) to folks who adopt a Sixaxis. Too bad no Welcome Box's been announced for North America. We'd so love to join the cause: <em>Save the Sixaxis!</em><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mgs4-welcome-box-japan/">MGS4 Welcome Box (Japan)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mgs4-welcome-box-japan/#784744"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/mgs4-welcome-box-003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mgs4-welcome-box-japan/#784743"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/mgs4-welcome-box-002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mgs4-welcome-box-japan/#784742"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/mgs4-welcome-box-001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/02/save-the-sixaxis-new-mgs4-welcome-box-bundles-announced/">Save the Sixaxis: New MGS4 'Welcome Box' bundles announced for Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 May 2008 11:00:00 EST. Short version of our DualShock 3 impression: It's like a Sixaxis. Oh yeah, but it has sweet, sweet, rumbles. <br /><br />More poetically speaking, Joni Mitchell's words that "you don't know what you've got till it's gone" were never truer than in describing what happened when we went from the PS2's DualShock 2 to the PS3's rumble-less Sixaxis. When you get your hands on a DualShock 3 for the first time, your general expectations of controller feedback from a PS3 game are fulfilled. After giving the heftier controller (193g vs. Sixaxis' 138g, even though it "feels" heavier) a little charge time with the USB cable, it was time to test some games. <br /><br />PlayStation 2 titles (for those who have backwards compatibility) control and give feedback just like you remember -- minus a pesky cord. <em>Uncharted: Drake's Fortune</em> feels like a totally new experience with every gunshot, punch and explosion letting your hands know something is happening on-screen. We had a little hiccup updating <em>MotorStorm</em>, one of the <a href="http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/About/Controller/Controller_games.html">few titles that requires a rumble patch</a> (make sure to go to the online option -- it doesn't auto update), but other than that, the DualShock 3 performs like one would expect. For those who don't want the rumble functionality on, there's always the option of turning it off by hitting the PS button ... but, why would you do that? The DualShock 3's suggested price is $55 and should be available as soon as the box from Sony <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/dualshock-3-available-next-week-compatibility-list-released/">arrives at your local store</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/">DualShock 3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/#664257"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dualshock-3-controller-01a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/#664258"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dualshock-3-controller-02a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/#664259"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dualshock-3-controller-03a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/#664260"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dualshock-3-controller-04a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dual-shock-3/#664261"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/dualshock-3-controller-05a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/joystiq-impressions-dualshock-3/">Joystiq impressions: DualShock 3 (PS3)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Apr 2008 19:30:00 EST. Let's get ready to rumble! Sony's <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/04/02/feel-the-shock-next-week/">PlayStation Blog</a> announced today that DualShock 3 controllers are currently shipping to North American stores and should be available next week. The controller originally had an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/destination-playstation-dualshock-3-to-debut-april-15th/">April 15 release date attached</a> to it, but can now be sold as soon as retailers receive them.<br /><br />We've placed the full list of DualShock 3 compatible titles after the break; games with an asterisk require a patch (which will automatically download if you're connected online). Sony has also added a page to its <a href="http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/About/Controller/Controller_games.html">official PlayStation site</a> dedicated to listing titles with rumble. DualShock 3 compatible titles will have an icon on the box and the controller's suggested retail price is $55. For those who truly don't care about rumble, keep an eye out for <a href="http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-Wireless-Sixaxis-Controller/dp/B000K1CS5Y/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1207145990&amp;sr=8-1">falling Sixaxis prices</a>.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: Edited piece after Sony let us know that the DualShock 3 compatibility page is live and confirmed the controllers can be sold as soon as retailers receive them.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/dualshock-3-available-next-week-compatibility-list-released/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DualShock 3 available next week, compatibility list released</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/dualshock-3-available-next-week-compatibility-list-released/">DualShock 3 available next week, compatibility list released</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Apr 2008 11:00:00 EST. Dutch site <a href="http://www.psonly.nl/nieuws/14757/Dual_Shock_3_op_2_mei_in_Europa?/">PlayStation Only</a> has heard from a "reliable source" that Dualshock 3 controllers will finally be made available in Europe on the 2nd of May this year. There's no word on pricing and the date hasn't been confirmed by Sony, so this is firmly a rumor for now. With America's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/dualshock-3-dated-april-15th/">April release date</a> fast approaching, Europeans are itchy to find out when they'll finally be able to get their hands on them. Most games (certainly, all high profile and first party titles) all support rumble out of the box, or via a mandatory patch so the earlier the controllers are released, the better.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/rumor-dualshock-3s-available-in-europe-on-may-2nd/">Rumor: Dualshock 3s available in Europe on May 2nd</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Mar 2008 16:10:00 EST. That <em>Famitsu</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/18/japans-metal-gear-solid-4-ps3-bundle-a-real-steel/">scan</a> failed to capture the true aesthetic of the gun-metal grey finish lathered atop Japan's limited edition <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mgs4">Metal Gear Solid 4</a></em> PlayStation 3, so we're posting some proper porn here. Officially, the color is 'Hagane,' steel used for making Japanese blades and other <em>tools</em>. The bundle, which includes the 40GB console, a like-minded DualShock 3, and a special edition of <em>MGS4</em>, is scheduled to arrive June 12th for &yen;51,800 ($520). A similar bundle has also been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/499-80gb-ps3-bundle-includes-mgs-4-dualshock-3/">announced</a> for the US market, though it will include an 80GB PS3, which we hereby dub the 'Pittsburgh.'<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/21/limited-edition-metal-gear-solid-4-ps3-heads-to-japans-outer-ha/">Engadget</a>]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-4-ps3-bundle-japan/">Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle (Japan)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-4-ps3-bundle-japan/#713095"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/mgs4-ps3-bundle-001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-4-ps3-bundle-japan/#713098"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/mgs4-ps3-bundle-004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-4-ps3-bundle-japan/#713097"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/mgs4-ps3-bundle-002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-4-ps3-bundle-japan/#713099"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/mgs4-ps3-bundle-003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/metal-gear-solid-4-ps3-bundle-japan/#713096"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/mgs4-ps3-bundle-005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/steel-a-proper-glance-at-mgs4-ps3-bundle/">'Steel' a proper glance at MGS4 PS3 bundle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Mar 2008 12:30:00 EST. <br />Sony once <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/26/sonys-phil-harrison-no-pressure-to-drop-ps3-price">called</a> rumble a "last generation feature," but secretly, somewhere, someone was designing DualShock 3 (and waiting for legal matters to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/01/sony-and-immersion-reach-settlement-feel-good-vibrations/">settle</a>). The race was on! (And quietly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/logitechs-ps3-controller-no-motion-but-yes-to-rumble/">won</a> by Logitech last June.) Still, someone had yet to release the 'ultimate' PS3 gamepad, which would combine the awesome powers of six-degree motion and palm-numbing vibration. (Actually, Sony did that last November -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/19/sonys-dualshock-3-is-finally-official-ps3-gets-rumble/">in Japan</a>.) Yet still, US PS3 owners where without such wizardry until today, when Nyko's Zero Wireless Controller -- packing hex-directional gesturetech(R) <em>and</em> rumble -- hit retail for $60. Too bad this hard-featured controller has a mere 40 days before it becomes <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/destination-playstation-dualshock-3-to-debut-april-15th/">irrelevant</a>.<br />

Before we even get our hands on a first party controller (besides importing), no less. So, if you really want to, you can purchase the wireless monstrosity pictured above. It retails for $59.99, which is $5 more than the DualShock 3 will retail at. (<u>Note:</u> It's currently $50 on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000LD3S5K/002-3710466-6703219?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B000LD3S5K">amazon.com</a>.) More news from the Destination PlayStation retailer conference: last-gen rumble is reportedly coming to North American PS3 controllers this April with the release of the DualShock 3. The unit should go on sale on April 15th for $54.99 (a $5 premium over the rumble-less Sixaxis), timed to coincide with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/gran-turismo-5-prologue-arrives-stateside-april-17/">April 17th launch</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/22/dualshock-3-rumbles-with-gt5-prologue-japanese-gaming-mag-claim/">rumble-capable</a> <em>GT5: Prologue</em>. The rumble-ready DualShock 3 controller should be ready for US audiences on April 15th, according to a report by Kotaku. This release would coincide with the release of the upcoming <em>Gran Turismo 5 Prologue</em>. Retailers have supposedly just received this date from the Destination PlayStation meeting. The controller will cost a rather hefty $55.<br /><br />We're getting in touch with Sony right now. Let's see if they can confirm this announcement.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/dualshock-3-dated-april-15th/">DualShock 3 dated: April 15th for $55</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Feb 2008 13:00:00 EST.
