Rumor: Hudson working on New Duck Hunt for Wii?

Could Hudson Soft be working on an update to the classic Duck Hunt for Nintendo Wii? That all depends on how much faith you put into shaky cam footage, and loosely-woven stories of dad's carelessness with company property.

The story goes that the boy's father works at Hudson Soft, and that the father left an unmarked disc on his desk, which the son soon discovered was an early build of New Duck Hunt for the Wii. The footage up on GameTrailers shows what looks like a 2.5D version of the original game, complete with NES sound effects, the original music, and that damn dog.

We have a hard time believing this to be true, especially since the video's off-camera star could have basically guaranteed his father's termination the moment he uploaded this to the internets. Check out the blurry, shaky, job-threatening footage after the break.

Update: Apparently the video's not DestinRL's, but rather one he found somewhere else on the internet. News updated accordingly.

Wii Blaster coming June 27th

It's classy.
You've gotta admire it ... this thing is a gun. A real sawed-off shotgun feel to it, isn't there? As you might expect, such a beast of firepower is not a first-party product, but nevertheless, it's the first Zapper-like Wiimote attachment to hit shelves come June 27th. Not just any shelves, mind you ... it's a Gamestop exclusive.

An interesting note is the Nintendo Duck Hunt comment. We've seen ESRB confirmation of the NES classic, but as of yet, there has been absolutely no additional functionality in any Virtual Console game thus far. Hmmm ... it's enough to get those rumor-wheels a-spinnin' ....

GameStop: Wii Blaster due on June 27

The argument that there's no link between video games and violence may be a little harder to convince parents of later this month. Just try telling mom and dad that every thing's cool on June 27 when their toddler points the Wii sawed-off shotgun in their face and asks them (with an adorable speech impediment) if they feel "wucky."

Joking aside, we're interested to see how the attachment, advertised in the latest GameStop online newsletter, actually works. The $20 blaster's not actually made by Nintendo, so we're hopeful that the answer, if not "really well," will at least be "not horribly." But don't worry, you can use it to play Duck Hunt! ... You know, when it comes out.

A playhouse that would put Pee-wee to shame

We can't say where this above fun house is located, but we can say that upon finding out we'll move to said house, take it over by force and die there. It's just about the best Nintendo tribute piece we've ever seen, complete with sniveling Duck Hunt dog and collection of cartridges in the back. Sadly, flickr user gnychis' photos don't have any captions letting us know who made this or where it is to be found.

We've posted more pictures, of both the building's outside and inside, past the post break.

Nintendogs beware: Ultimate Duck Hunting coming to Wii

Hang on! This isn't some modern Wii version of the NES classic, Duck Hunt. You see, this is Ultimate Duck Hunt-ing, which despite featuring ducks in the process of being hunted, is not to be confused with Nintendo's own and entirely dissimilar Duck Hunt. Right, so Ultimate Duck Hunting is a game in which the player presumably hunts ducks, possibly in the presence of an adorable dog that every so often gets in the way of your deadly rifle shotgun. Just so we're clear on that.

Pro-G reports that Ultimate Duck Hunting will be the first foray into gaming for new publisher Detn8 (oh, as in detonate!). It's not entirely certain what has prompted the release of the game -- it's either based on a dubious attempt to cash in on a similar, popular brand (is it really?), or the misguided belief that there's an untapped desire among gamers to hunt ducks on their consoles. We'll find out which one it is when the game releases in the US this June and in Europe towards the end of the year.

Ultimate Duck Hunting quacks its way onto the Wii

While most of you have probably been enjoying the Duck Hunt minigame in Wii Play, Detn8 Games is seeking to bring you a more fleshed-out and authentic experience when they release Ultimate Duck Hunting on the Wii. We assume the Ultimate comes from the inclusion of some kind of Xtreme beverage (or perhaps you ride on a snowboard while hunting these ducks?).

Co-founder Jeff Hill reveals that players will be able to virtually hunt digital ducks come June this year in the US, with the ducks finally migrating to the UK during Q4 of this year. Nothing more is revealed on this title, but we hope, nay pray, there is a sniveling, giggling dog in the game that we get to shoot in the face.

Hot Nintendo cross-stitching action

We have no idea how we missed this, but better late than never. See, the above was loving cross-stitched by flickr user CrystalPowell and presents just what we look for here at Wii Fanboy: a rabid love of Nintendo. Proudly displaying such games as Tetris, Duck Hunt, Donkey Kong, and the Mario Bros. from Super Mario Bros. 3, with the icing on the cake being a bold red Nintendo logo dead center at the top, we find ourselves wishing that we could envelope our body in warm Nintendo love every night when we go to bed.

Happy ducks on the NES music day

After putting together 15 game music Fridays over the past 5 months or so, you might think that we're beginning to run out of ideas for mostly regular feature. Well, you'd be wrong. Our imagination for this kind of thing knows no limits. You give us three random video game music videos from YouTube and we will manage to connect them in some semi-coherent way to make a passable music day theme because that's what we get paid for, dammit!

With that in mind, please enjoy some YouTube videos featuring music from NES games that featured ducks. Including:
  • A suitably digital-sounding version of the Duck Tales theme
  • A surprisingly competent, jazzy tune from Darkwing Duck
  • A death metal anthem based around Duck Hunt. Yes, Duck Hunt.

NES Zapper tats

tats
Ooh, the orange model. Looks like we got ourselves a Captain N fan.

Duck Hunt, others get ESRB's thumbs-up, zapper imminent

ZapperThe ESRB has approved and rated another pile of Nintendo's Virtual Console throwbacks, including:
  • Duck Hunt (E)
  • Hogan's Alley (E)
  • Kid Icarus (E)
  • Kirby's Adventure (E)
  • PilotWings (E)
  • Pro Wrestling (E)
  • Punch-Out (E)
  • Wild Gunman (E)
With Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, and Wild Gunman making appearances, the Zapper can't be far behind. Think the E3 prototype fits the bill?

Halo 3 has a happy ending, or how I learned to love YTMND

The animated .gif addicts over at YTMND have been very busy lately revealing the truthiness behind recent video game rumors. Here are some of those OMIGOD NEWS FLASH! announcements from YTMND's gaming posse:
YTMND's formula is never going to get old, simply because there will never be a shortage of fanboy ideas and rumors to make fun of.

For sale: oil paintings inspired by games

Jeremiah Palacek is a painter living in Prague in the Czech Republic. Over the last year he's created 154 paintings, many of which are inspired by, as he calls it "imagery from digital mediums" (read: games). You can see three examples of his work in the image above: from left to right you have an 8 foot by 4 foot monster inspired by Counter-Strike complete with abstract blood spatters, a straight up Duck Hunt imitation and last but not least, a sweeping (at least for those days) digital landscape from Road Rash. Who says games aren't art?

Nintendo-themed Goldberg contraption

A college kid created this animation for a class project and submitted it to Professor Joystiq. We give the young man a gentleman's C for incomplete physics modeling, but an A for conceptual development. Very clever opening and closing sounds, especially.

First response to list all of the games in this video wins glory for the duration of this post's existence on the internet.

(While we're on the subject of Goldbergian machinima, be sure to check out this oldie but goodie.)
