We guess Duke's ride wasn't <em>too</em> shot up, as he's making his way over to Android. Tapjoy and MachineWorks NorthWest have teamed up to bring the original classic, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-3d/"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em></a>, to the Android Marketplace starting "very soon."<br />
<br />
It's all part of the Tapjoy Android Fund, an initiative started to bring "top-quality mobile games and applications" to the Android platform.<span style="font-style: italic;"> Duke Nukem 3D</span> on Android is a port of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/11/duke-nukem-3d-on-iphone-forever/">the iOS version</a>, and will be compatible with Android phones and tablet devices running version 2.1 and up.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/12/duke-nukem-3d-gets-some-on-android/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Duke Nukem 3D gets some on Android</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/12/duke-nukem-3d-gets-some-on-android/">Duke Nukem 3D gets some on Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Oct 2011 02:45:00 EST. <br />
It's difficult to imagine <em>The Shining</em> being any more terrifying than its original release, but<i> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-3d">Duke Nukem</a></i> has never cared much about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/13/metareview-duke-nukem-forever/">impossible odds</a>, and it's taken on the challenge like a champ. Film fanatic and analyst Rob Ager has compiled a video dissecting the spatial anomalies in <em>The Shining</em>'s Overlook Hotel, as discovered through a <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> mod attempting to recreate the building. Ager describes the impossible hallways, windows, apartments and stairways littering the Overlook that lend Kubrick's movie a subconsciously eerie, <em>something's not quite right</em> vibe.<br />
<br />
Ager's detailed analysis borders on crazed obsession, but it provides thrilling insight into a classic film -- we just think he should take a vacation after this one. After all, all work and no play...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/24/duke-nukem-finally-figures-out-whats-wrong-in-the-shinings-ove/">Duke Nukem finally figures out what's wrong in The Shining's Overlook Hotel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 24 Jul 2011 18:30:00 EST. Shareware pioneer Apogee Software has announced the launch of a <a href="http://store.digitalriver.com/store/apogee/list/CategoryID.55166100">new online store</a>, offering a handful of Apogee's most well-known games, specifically <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-3d"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em></a>, <em>Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project</em>, <em>Rise of the Triad</em> and both <em>Blake Stone</em> titles, all of which can be had for $5.99 each. Savvy readers may recognize that the same lineup has been available via GoG.com for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/27/gog-in-the-machine-duke-nukem-3d-more-apogee-on-the-way/">some time now</a>.<br />
<br />
The Apogee store manages to offer a better deal though, thanks to its "Legacy Pack" which bundles all five games for $20. The bundle also includes the "<em>Extreme Rise of the Triad</em>" expansion and ... the <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-critical-mass"><em>Duke Nukem: Critical Mass</em></a> soundtrack. Also, until June 20, the store is running a Father's Day promotion, offering the Legacy Pack for only $15. Just use the promo code "Father" during checkout.<br />
<br />
The current slate of available games is apparently just the beginning, as Apogee plans to revisit its beginnings as a digital distributor by "providing a platform for new developers to access a global market."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/17/apogee-opens-online-store-peddling-its-classics/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Apogee opens online store, peddling its classics</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/17/apogee-opens-online-store-peddling-its-classics/">Apogee opens online store, peddling its classics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Jun 2011 02:15:00 EST. Hankerin' to clobber pig cops and jetpack-toting snake dudes, but just can't find that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/duke-nukem-3d">Duke Nukem 3D</a></em> disc? Save yourself some time and snap up the Atomic Edition of <em>Duke 3D</em> for just $2.99 on GOG.com this weekend. If that weren't enough of a deal, GOG's offering its entire Apogee catalog for 50 percent off ($15) -- if you're just interested in a couple of games, a 20 percent discount still applies to individual titles.<br />
<br />
You might wanna hurry, though, as the discounts disappear on Monday, February 7 at 11:59PM EST. But then, we suppose you could just go back to looking for that disc, right?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/05/gog-discounts-apogee-games-this-weekend/">GOG discounts Apogee games this weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 Feb 2011 11:15:00 EST. Project lead Frederik "Fresch" Schreiber has <a href="http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=112564">received</a> a non-commercial license to proceed with <em>Duke Nukem: Next-Gen,</em> his Unreal Engine 3-powered <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> remake. Fresch secured the license in just under three weeks after his <a href="http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=111335">first announcement</a> -- a credit to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/05/we-bought-duke-nukem-franchise-rights-transferred-from-3d-rea/">rights holder</a> Gearbox's openness to share the franchise with the community -- and has aleady assembled a team of nine other contributors (though he is still "hiring" for a number of positions).<br />
<br />
Fresch, who abandoned similar "next-gen" remakes of <em>Daikatana</em> (too unpopular) and <em>SIN</em> (shut down by MumboJumbo), has plans to release a public multiplayer demo of <em>Duke Nukem: Next-Gen</em> "sooner than you think." Of course, the full version will be released "when it's done" -- and he notes that <em>"Duke Nukem: Next-Gen"</em> is, wisely, just a codename.<br />
<br />
Check out the freeware project's first test video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/14/fan-made-duke-nukem-3d-remake-green-lighted-by-gearbox/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fan-made Duke Nukem 3D remake green-lighted by Gearbox</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/14/fan-made-duke-nukem-3d-remake-green-lighted-by-gearbox/">Fan-made Duke Nukem 3D remake green-lighted by Gearbox</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Oct 2010 17:20:00 EST. Assuming you're still buying games from GOG.com after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/27/gog-coms-guillaume-rambourg-explains-what-happened-last-week/">last week's shutdown stunt</a>, there are some excellent deals to be had this week on the site's <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/promo/community_favourites">"Community Favorites" list</a>. All of the games on the list are half off, which means you can pick up <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/duke_nukem_3d_atomic_edition"><em>Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition</em></a> or <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/myst_masterpiece_edition"><em>Myst: Masterpiece Edition</em></a> for just three bucks, and <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/psychonauts"><em>Psychonauts</em></a> or <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/syberia"><em>Syberia</em></a> for just five.<br />
<br />
Sure, the site may have played a little too hard on your heartstrings with its fake story of shutting down for good just to promote a site revamp, but everybody appreciates cheap, classic PC games, right? And even if not, you can always go <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/30/peggle-for-a-buck-many-top-ios-games-on-sale-for-crazy-low-pric/">grab one of those iPhone games</a> instead -- that's a great sale, too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/02/gog-offers-community-favorites-for-half-off-this-weekend/">GOG offers community favorites for half off this weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 02 Oct 2010 15:00:00 EST. If Xbox Live were a used car lot, it would be positively <em>festooned</em> with colorful flags and packed to the brim with giant, inflatable animals this week. Six XBLA games have reduced prices this week and, what's more, each one is actually worth your attention. <em>Worms 2: Armageddon</em>, <em>Peggle</em> and <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> have all seen their prices knocked from 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10) to a pittance: 400<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5). Meanwhile, <em>Serious Sam HD</em>, <em>Battlefield 1943</em> and <em>Call of Duty Classic</em> have dropped from 1200<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($15) to 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10). Add all those up and you've got six nutritious, filling games for $45 (through Sunday).<br />
<br />
Seriously though, <em>Peggle?</em> For $5? And <em>Worms 2?</em> You'd have to have heart of stone (or a wallet filled with moths) to turn that down.<br />

</a></div>
With a lengthy campaign, multiplayer mode and a new rewind feature, the XBLA iteration of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-3d"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em></a> is arguably the best installment in the franchise, and <em>easily</em> the most ... well, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-forever">released</a>. Fortunately, the pig-mutant massacring simulator is the current <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/02/24/deal-of-the-week-duke-nukem-3d.aspx">Xbox Live Deal of the Week</a>, and has its price temporarily reduced from 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10) to 400<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5). <br />
<br />
We'd suggest checking the game out <em>right now</em>, as whatever player base it might still possess is probably going to get stolen away when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/perfect-dark">that other revamped shooter</a> comes out on XBLA next month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/22/xbox-live-deal-of-the-week-duke-nukem-3d-for-5/">Xbox Live Deal of the Week: Duke Nukem 3D for $5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Feb 2010 17:43:00 EST. According to a recent <a href="http://twitter.com/georgeb3dr">tweet</a> from 3D Realms' George Broussard, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/x3f-tv-xbla-in-brief-duke-nukem-3d/"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em></a> will be next week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week. Already pretty cheap at 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10), Broussard says the game will be reduced to a mere 400<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5). That's 39 levels, online multiplayer and the nifty rewind feature, which lets you rewind to a safe point in the level upon death,for just $5. Not bad. <br />
<br />
Oh, as an added bonus, if you can manage to snag all the Achievements, you can even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/27/duke-nukem-forever-screens-hidden-in-xbla-duke-nukem-3d/">unlock some images</a> of the "upcoming" <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a>. That's pretty exciting, right?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/16/3d-realms-xbla-duke-nukem-3d-only-5-next-week/">3D Realms: XBLA Duke Nukem 3D only $5 next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Feb 2010 17:15:00 EST. <a href="http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/12/fail_duke_nukem/all/1">Wired</a>'s piece on the events leading up to the end of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke Nukem Forever</em></a>'s 12 year development cycle may not give the full story, thanks to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/18/3d-realms-still-alive-claims-take-two-accusations-without-meri/">continuing legal issues</a> between publisher Take-Two and developer 3D Realms, but it does a solid job of putting together the fragmented anecdotes of anonymous employees and people close to the events.<br />
<br />
The feature is a cautionary tale of ego, ambition and failure. <em>DNF</em>'s drama is a yarn that publishers, developers and the press will turn to for years (decades?) to come as the quintessential example of game development gone terribly wrong, terribly publicly. Definitely check it out if you've never gone down the rabbit hole of <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em>'s distracted development.<br />

<em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> has found another revenue stream, this time on the iPhone as the seminal FPS shoots onto the App Store for $2.99 -- as part of a "one day special launch sale." We're not sure what the normal price would be, but with <em>Civilization Revolution</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/10/impressions-civilization-revolution-on-iphone/">launching yesterday at $4.99</a>, Duke's adventure from 13 years ago had better not ask for much more.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://appgamer.net/news/2009/aug/11/duke-nukem-3d-out-and-cheap-24-hours/">AppGamer</a> notes that initial feedback on the title has been positive, though there's no "lite" version to test out. The game has the "thumb-stick style controls," but also comes with "slider-style controls." If you've already played this on your morning commute, be sure to share your opinion in the comments below!<br />

That's right, everyone's favorite ass kicker and bubble gum enthusiast is making a new home on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/@iphone">iPhone</a>, as <a href="http://uk.wireless.ign.com/articles/100/1001274p1.html">IGN</a> reports 3D Realms' superb FPS, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-3d"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em></a>, will be available on the iPhone App store soon. Ported by Machineworks Northwest, this direct PC port will feature the entire original game, so you'll be able to tip those working girls and relieve yourself in the game's many bathrooms soon enough. <br /><br />After spending some time with a preview build, IGN had nothing but good things to say, especially about the improved graphics. IGN didn't knock the controls, either, and said there will be two options: tap-to-shoot and a classic scheme. There's no word on when the game will be available on the App store, but we'll be sure to let you know as soon as it is.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/07/duke-nukem-to-make-those-aliens-pay-for-shooting-up-his-ride-on/">Duke Nukem to make those aliens pay for shooting up his ride on iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 10:30:00 EST. Week after week, <a href="http://www.gog.com/">Good Old Games</a> bring us a bountiful list of memories from our childhood. This week the company's bringing not just <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> for $5.99, but the announcement that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/apogee">Apogee Software</a> has agreed to distribute through GOG's digital distribution platform. (Wait, does that mean <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/commander-keen/"><em>Commander Keen</em></a> as well?!)<br /><br />From what GOG has confirmed with us, <em>Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project,</em> <em>Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold</em>, <em>Blake Stone: Planet Strike</em>, and <em>Rise of the Triad: Dark War</em> are all in the queue for "the upcoming weeks." (So, no <em>Commander Keen</em> then, eh?) If you'd like a refresher on how <strike>hilarious and ridiculous</strike> <em>hilarculous </em>the Duke can be, check out the modern-classic <em>Duke Nukem Trilogy</em> trailer from last year's E3 after the break.<br /><br />[Thanks, Brent]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/27/gog-in-the-machine-duke-nukem-3d-more-apogee-on-the-way/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GOG in the Machine: Duke Nukem 3D, more Apogee on the way</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/27/gog-in-the-machine-duke-nukem-3d-more-apogee-on-the-way/">GOG in the Machine: Duke Nukem 3D, more Apogee on the way</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Feb 2009 00:00:00 EST. Apparently when <em>Duke</em> told gamers to "come get some," they took him up on the offer. According to <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/09/30/live-activity-for-week-of-september-22nd.aspx">Major Nelson</a>, after a four week stranglehold as the most played Xbox Live Arcade title available for the popular downloadable service <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Castle-Crashers/">Castle Crashers</a></em> has dropped to second place following the release of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Duke-Nukem-3D/">Duke Nukem 3D</a></em>, last week. Is it possible the clich&eacute;d 90's hero has a place in the industry again? Maybe <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> is more important that we initially thought. Maybe <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Duke-Nukem-Forever/">Duke Nukem Forever</a></em> will actually be released! Okay, let's not go crazy now.<br />
<br />
<em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XBLA/">Xbox Live Arcade</a> transports gamers through the way-back machine to a simpler time of first-person action with nipple tassels and pigs dressed as police officers. Originally released on the PC in January 1996, <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> follows the title character as he battles an evil horde of enemies through movie theatres, strip clubs and fast food restaurants (to name a few). Rated M for Mature, the Xbox Live Arcade release of the title includes the ability to rewind sections of gameplay, create saved films and boasts numerous multiplayer options.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/01/duke-nukem-3d-takes-most-played-xbla-title-of-the-week/">Duke Nukem 3D takes most played XBLA title of the week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Oct 2008 12:15:00 EST. Nabbed all of the achievements in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Duke-Nukem-3D/">Duke Nukem 3D</a></em> for the Xbox Live Arcade? Congratulations, you've just unlocked two images for a game that was announced around the time some of you were born! <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Duke-Nukem-Forever/">Duke Nukem Forever</a></em>, which was first announced in 1997, has been the long awaited return of 90's shooter "icon" and CIA gun-for-hire <em>Duke Nukem</em>. Obtaining all 12 achievements in the recently released Xbox Live Arcade release of <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> unlocked two images for the upcoming (heh) sequel. Don't want to go through all the trouble? Big Download has you covered with a short gallery of the images below.<br />

You've soldiered through the entirety of the recent XBLA re-release of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Duke%20Nukem%203D">Duke Nukem 3D</a></em>, taking special care to fulfill the game's <em>unique</em> achievement requirements. You receive the standard reward for your hard work and dedication, a 200 point boost to your already impressive Gamerscore -- though you quickly realize with glee that 3D Realms has provided an additional prize for your feat: <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2008/09/26/new-duke-nukem-forever-screenshots-in-duke-nukem-3d-xbla-game/">Two new screenshots</a> for a game that is never, ever, <em>ever</em> coming out.<br />

Yes, unlocking every achievement in <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> reveals <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/54940">two new screenshots</a> for the title's oft-delayed follow-up in the art gallery. Though some may consider it a stretch to call screenshots from the Duke's supposedly upcoming title "art", we find any sign of life for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/22/this-wednesday-hail-to-the-king-duke-nukem-3d-is-back/">highly-quotable</a> shooter utterly refreshing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/27/duke-nukem-forever-screens-hidden-in-xbla-duke-nukem-3d/">Duke Nukem Forever screens hidden in XBLA Duke Nukem 3D</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 27 Sep 2008 17:30:00 EST. So, we might be a teeny bit biased, but that doesn't keep <em>Duke</em> from being one of the best FPS games on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XBLA/">XBLA</a>. In fact, we'd say it is the best, with no disrespect to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/marathon"><em>Marathon</em></a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/doom"><em>Doom</em></a>. For 800 Microsoft Points, you get a substantial campaign and 8 player online multiplayer and co-op. Not too shabby. Check out the latest <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbla-in-brief">XBLA in Brief</a> to see all the reasons why <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> is worth it. (Warning: the video is mildly NSFW.)<br />

It seems like it took <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-forever"><em>forever</em></a>, but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-3d"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em></a> is now finally available on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-3d">Xbox Live Arcade</a>. Take on the role of Duke Nukem, badass with a heart of gold, whose mission is to save the planet earth (and its chicks) from a horde of alien scum. The Xbox Live Arcade version sports saved films, a new rewind feature (no more constant saving!), and online multiplayer and co-op for up to 8 players. If you've never played <em>Duke</em>, we suggest you give it a try. It really is a great shooter, and introduced many previously unseen features in the first person shooter genre (like payable strippers, for example). The full version can be yours for 800 Microsoft Points.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/the-duke-hits-xbla-needs-more-bubble-gum/">The Duke hits XBLA, needs more bubble gum</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Sep 2008 11:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Thanks to some <a href="http://www.3drealms.com/news/2008/09/a_couple_of_late_night_du.html">new screenshots</a> making their way onto the interwebs, we have learned that multiplayer in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-3d"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em></a> will utilize the ever so convenient lobby system. A multiplayer system we fully endorse. So, thumbs up to that.</div>
</div>
<br />
Also, even though the official <em>Duke 3D</em> <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/d/dukenukem3dxboxlivearcade/default.htm">Xbox.com page</a> has gone live, 3D Realms still hasn't announced the official pricing. But rumor has it that OXM's <strike>August</strike> November issue has a review of <em>Duke 3D</em> and in it they mention that the game costs 800 Microsoft points. Remember, <em>Duke </em>will grace the XBLA <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/14/duke-nukem-kicks-the-xblas-a-and-chews-bubble-gum-on-sept-24t/">next Wednesday</a>, so be sure to stock up on plenty of bubble gum. We recommend <a href="http://www.5gum.com/five/index_rfc.do">5 gum</a>, because it's yummy.<br />

A <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/40005.html">new trailer</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-3d"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em></a> was released earlier this week, and let's just say that it got our nostalgia zones all tingly. Sure, Duke brings back some good, good memories, but the trailer also reminds us that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-live-arcade">Xbox Live Arcade</a> version of <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> is packed with new features. At the top of the list is 8 player online co-op and deathmatch (the original only supported 4 players). Let's not forget the ability to save and share gameplay videos either, or the ability to rewind the game when you die (no more saving every 5 seconds, hooray). Now, we might be a little biased, but we'd say that <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> looks to be the best frakking Xbox Live Arcade game ever and you should buy it when it releases <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/14/duke-nukem-kicks-the-xblas-a-and-chews-bubble-gum-on-sept-24t/">next week</a>.<br />
<br />
Or, you could, you know, wait to hear how the game actually plays over Xbox Live.<br />

The "highly anticipated" re-release of 3D Realms' <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Duke%20Nukem%203D">Duke Nukem 3D</a></em> received a release date on <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/gametrailerstv_player.php?ep=38&amp;ch=1&amp;sd=1">last night's exclusive-rich episode of GameTrailers TV</a>. The revamped 1996 shooter will be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/duke-nukem-forever-teaser-perpetuates-cycle-of-non-delivery/">parking its bricks</a> in the XBLA toilet on Sept. 24, complete with eight-player co-op and <strike><em>Blinx</em>-esque</strike> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/x08-xbla-duke-adds-saved-films-rewind-feature/"><em>Braid</em>-esque rewind capabilities</a>. Also, it apparently has the ability to <em>actually be released</em>, giving it a leg up on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/wheres-duke-nukem-been-the-last-decade/">the other <em>Nukem</em> title that's currently in production</a>. No word yet on how many Micro-bucks it'll run the discerning, alien-hating 360 owner.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/13/duke-nukem-3d-ready-for-xbla-action-sept-24/">Duke Nukem 3D ready for XBLA action Sept. 24</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 13 Sep 2008 16:30:00 EST. All we can say is that those who suffered from <em>Marathon </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/06/marathon-motion-sickness-gets-cured/">motion sickness</a> will probably become woozy after playing <em>Duke </em>on the XBLA. <br />
According to a Microsoft representative at X08, <em>Duke 3D</em> will include both gameplay rewind and saved film video features. The rewind option will allow players to "undo" mistakes (like dying) or go back to a point earlier in the game, whereas the saved film feature will (expectedly) allow players to record and share <em>Duke 3D </em>multiplayer videos with gamers. Two interesting game additions that we totally didn't see coming, but are welcomed none the less. Two features we'd also like another <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-forever"><em>Duke</em> game</a> to incorporate, somehow.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/duke-nukem-3d-now-with-saved-films-and-rewind/">Duke Nukem 3D, now with saved films and rewind</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Aug 2008 12:00:00 EST. As explained by the rep, the rewind function allows players to rewind a portion of the game if they had a particularly enthralling firefight with LARD troops or to undo any major mistakes (e.g. including death). The saved film feature works as you would imagine: Players are able to take saved clips from multiplayer and share them online with friends. With this much new content added for an Arcade release <em>Duke Nukem</em> might just become popular again. Someone should really look into releasing a new game in that series ... oh, wait.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/x08-xbla-duke-adds-saved-films-rewind-feature/">X08: XBLA Duke adds saved films, rewind feature</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Aug 2008 08:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/x08-duke-nukem-3d-coming-to-xbla-sometime-in-september/">Speaking to Joystiq</a>, Xbox representative Jason Ing has revealed that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-3d"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em></a> should hit the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-live-arcade">Xbox Live Arcade</a> service "sometime in September." For those keeping score, September starts in just over a week. Ing reconfirmed that the game has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/3d-realms-finally-confirms-dukes-xbla-adventures/">passed certification</a> and also revealed that the game will be published by Microsoft. <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> is set to include minimal graphical enhancements akin to what was seen with the XBLA port of <em>Doom</em>. Frankly, we don't care what it looks like as long as it has shrink rays and deathmatch.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/duke-nukem-3d-lands-on-xbla-next-month/">Duke Nukem 3D lands on XBLA next month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Aug 2008 16:00:00 EST. In an interview with Xbox representative Jason Ing, it was revealed to Joystiq that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Duke-Nukem-3D/">Duke Nukem 3D</a></em>, developed by 3D Realms, has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/18/xblas-duke-nukem-3d-passed-certification-coming-soon/">passed certification</a> and is expected to release "sometime in September." The Xbox Live Arcade revival, which sports the same minimal graphical enhancements as <em>Doom</em> did on the service, is being published by Microsoft and is an exclusive release for the platform.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/x08-duke-nukem-3d-coming-to-xbla-sometime-in-september/">X08: Duke Nukem 3D coming to XBLA 'sometime in September'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Aug 2008 14:56:00 EST. Celebratory high five! Though, they're keeping their release date, pricing and game feature cards close to their chest. But 3D Realms promises us that <em>Duke 3D </em>previews should be making their way onto the internets sometime next week and also mentions that OXM's October issue has plenty of juicy <em>Duke </em>bits. <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> ... it's really real!<br />

Cigar-chomping testosterone factory foiling alien invasion news now, with word that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem">Duke Nukem</a> game you've all been waiting for -- again -- may be arriving imminently. Speaking to <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/54232">Shacknews</a>, 3D Realms' George Broussard has confirmed that the Xbox Live Arcade version of <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> has defeated the development galaxy's most dreaded scourge, the Microsoft certification process. <br />
<br />
"We officially passed final cert on our first try Friday, August 15th," said Broussard, also revealing that the game is due for release "soon." Though we've yet to see convincing evidence that 3D Realms employees are familiar with that last word's meaning, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to a game they've at least managed to complete once before. <br />
<br />
No price has been announced yet, but Broussard noted that it would be "about what you'd expect." Meanwhile, be sure to check out the list of <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em>'s <a href="http://www.achieve360points.com/game/dukenukem3d/">Xbox 360 Achievements</a>, which reward players for tipping strippers and stepping in poo.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/18/xblas-duke-nukem-3d-passed-certification-coming-soon/">XBLA's Duke Nukem 3D passed certification, coming 'soon'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Aug 2008 20:45:00 EST. Long rumored to be heading to the Xbox Live Arcade when, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/rumor-xbla-to-come-get-some-duke-nukem-3d/">back in January</a>, rumor-word told us that Duke would be gracing the XBLA in a "few months". A few months passed, then a few more and even a few more and still we have no <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> (cough, vaporware, cough). But wait, what's this? Two new screenshots sent to Joystiq by a tipster showcasing the <em>Duke </em>gracing the Arcade. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/duke361mc7.jpg">co-op mentioned</a> in an achievement description too? Yummy yum! It's rumor for now, but we have a hunch that the XBLA <em>Duke </em>will steer clear of the vaporware bin. Though, the same cannot be said for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-forever">the other <em>Duke</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/rumor-pics-show-duke-nukem-3d-on-xbla/">Rumor: Pics show Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jul 2008 10:15:00 EST. <font size="1">click to embiggen</font></div>
The last we heard from <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem-3d">Duke Nukem 3D</a> </em>on Xbox Live, it was "several months away" as of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/rumorang-duke-nukem-on-xbla-in-next-several-months/">January</a> ... well that time has come and passed with nothing to show for it. Now comes two new pictures from "SV" that purportedly reveal his Dukeness in the Xbox Live Arcade system, with some achievement icons and, in the second picture, 25 points for completing L.A. Meltdown on any difficult in co-op. <br />
<br />
So <span style="font-style: italic;">Duke Nukem 3D</span> is gunning for XBLA with co-op? We're not convinced by these pictures, but our imaginations are running wild. We've placed the second picture after the break; consider this a rumor.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/rumor-leaked-pics-of-duke-nukem-3d-on-xbla/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rumor: Leaked pics of Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/rumor-leaked-pics-of-duke-nukem-3d-on-xbla/">Rumor: Leaked pics of Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jul 2008 01:00:00 EST. "<em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> confirmed for 2008," heralds an unlikely source in <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2008/02/04/daily17.html">Dallas Business Journal</a></em>. What the modest, Texas newspaper actually seems to suggest is that 3D Realms is "on target" to release the mythical sequel sometime this year, though company co-owner Scott Miller adds, "we may miss the mark by a month or two" (<em>wink, wink</em>). Miller also hinted that "hitting the big three" (in this case, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3) is the obvious development strategy, but he continued to stress that 3D Realms has not "formally announced any platforms for <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dukenukemforever/"><em>DNF</em></a>."<br />
<br />
3D Realms informed <a target="_blank" href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51163">Shacknews</a> that any suggestion by <em>Dallas Business Journal</em> that <em>DNF's</em> release date and platforms have been confirmed is erroneous. <strike>Expect an official statement from 3D Realms later today.</strike> <strong>Update:</strong> 3D Realms president George Broussard lays it out loud and clear in the <a href="http://www.3drealms.com/news/2008/02/duke_nukem_forever.html" target="_blank">follow-up statement</a> issued today. "The release date is still 'when it's done,' and will be until the appropriate moment. Platforms have not been finalized or announced. You can rest assured that we are moving toward a goal and that the recently released <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/duke-nukem-forever-teaser-perpetuates-cycle-of-non-delivery/">teaser trailer</a> is the start of that process and seeing more of the game, sooner than later."<br />
<br />
We should also note that <em>Dallas Business Journal</em> seemingly confirms <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/rumorang-duke-nukem-on-xbla-in-next-several-months/">ongoing rumor</a> that <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> is bound for Xbox Live Arcade and will include online multiplayer and co-op support. "We're really excited about bringing classic<em> Duke</em> to the 360," Miller allegedly told the paper, "We're talking to Microsoft about getting a release slot sometime this year."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/3d-realms-disputes-confirmation-of-duke-nukem-forever-in-2008/">3D Realms disputes confirmation of Duke Nukem Forever in 2008</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Feb 2008 13:30:00 EST. <font size="2"><font face="Arial"><strong>Update 2: </strong>The original interview in the Dallas Business Journal has been edited with many corrections regarding all things <em>Duke</em>. Primarily it now reads <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> is internally projected for a 2008 release by 3D Realms and will likely come to the Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC. Basically, we're back to square one.<br />
<strong><br />
Update:</strong> 3D Realms has informed <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51163">Shacknews</a> that the release date and platform availability for <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> were not confirmed in the Dallas Business Journal interview, though the company apparently did not deny the information regarding the XBLA release of <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em>.</font></font><br />
<br />
<strong>Original article: </strong>Hot off the <strike>presses</strike> internets comes word from 3D Realms that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/duke-nukem">Duke Nukem Forever</a> </em> is confirmed for late 2008 release. Hitting Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC it was announced for in 1996, <em>Duke </em>is the daddy of everything vaporware. In an email exchange with the <a href="http://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2008/02/04/daily17.html">Dallas Business Journal</a>, 3D Realms president Scott Miller confirmed that the long 12-year wait for Duke's return will be over by the end of the calendar year. Miller went on to reiterate, "we may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we're on target this time." Miller also confirmed the existence of the rumored <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbla">Xbox Live Arcade</a> version of the <em>classic </em>PC title <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/rumor-xbla-to-come-get-some-duke-nukem-3d/"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em></a>, which will feature online multiplayer support, leaderboards, and a co-op mode. When asked about a possible release date for the XBLA title Miller said, "we're talking to Microsoft about getting a release slot sometime this year." We're holding our collective breaths.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/duke-nukem-forever-xbla-duke-confirmed-for-08-update/">Duke Nukem Forever, XBLA Duke confirmed for 08 [Update 2]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Feb 2008 13:18:00 EST. Though we're all well aware <em>DNF</em> isn't close to being released, rumor has it (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/04/duke-nukem-on-xbla-has-already-been-discussed/">again</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/13/duke-nukem-could-be-on-his-way-to-xbla/">again</a>) that <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> will resurrect the franchise on Xbox Live Arcade so the title's core audience, who were <em>parking their bricks</em> in a pair of Pull-Ons ten years ago, can learn what The Duke is all about.<br />
<br />
Here's the details: sources close to developer 3D Realms told IGN that DN3D is scheduled to appear on Xbox Live Arcade "within the next several months" featuring four-player online co-op and eight-player online deathmatch. If true, this would be the first 3D Realms-developed game to ship since ... well, the original Duke Nukem 3D in 1996. Okay, there was also the strangely offensive <em>Shadow Warrior</em> in 1997, but we'd just as soon like to forget about that ...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/rumorang-duke-nukem-on-xbla-in-next-several-months/">Rumorang: Duke Nukem on XBLA in 'next several months'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 13:28:00 EST. But, it's another day and that means we have to accept the fact that we've got another XBLA rumor. So, let's get to it ... <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/845/845449p1.html"><em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> to the Xbox Live Arcade</a>!<br />
<br />
Yes sir, word on the street is that 3D Realms is cooking up an XBLA version of <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> that'll not only kick ass and chew bubblegum, but will also be Xbox Live enabled. Live functionality including four player co-op and eight player versus deathmatch to boot. The rumor comes from a 3D Realms employee who confirmed with IGN that the game is in full development and that it should make a release to the Arcade within' the next few months. Believe what you want, but even if 3D Realms were to confirm <em>Duke Nukem 3D</em> for the XBLA we'd have to see it before we 100% believed it. Because, you know, there's always the possibility that we could have another generation of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/duke-nukem-forever-teaser-it-exists/">vaporware</a> on our hands.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/rumor-xbla-to-come-get-some-duke-nukem-3d/">Rumor: XBLA to come get some Duke Nukem 3D</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 11:00:00 EST.
