<p>Evolution Championship Series co-founder Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar <a href="http://shoryuken.com/2013/05/07/injustice-gods-among-us-added-to-official-evo-2013-lineup/">announced</a> that NetherRealm Studios' DC superhero brawler <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/injustice-gods-among-us"><i>Injustice: Gods Among Us</i></a> is now a featured game in EVO 2013's official tournament lineup, joining big-name favorites like <i>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</i> and <i>Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition</i>.<br />
<br />
More good news arrived for <em>Injustice</em> fans today, in the form of a release window for the Wii U version's downloadable content. <a href="https://twitter.com/InjusticeGame/status/332210873873600512">Responding</a> to fan questions, the game's official Twitter account revealed that Wii U users will see its first round of DLC for the superhero and villain brawler this summer.<br />
<br />
Wii U players were previously left out in the cold as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners tussled with newcomer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/07/lobo-rides-into-injustice-gods-among-us-today/">Lobo</a> earlier this week. NetherRealm did not detail if the Wii U plans include additional costumes currently exclusive to Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of <em>Injustice</em>.<br />
<br />
Batgirl is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/04/injustice-gods-among-us-second-dlc-character-is-batgirl/">next up</a> in NetherRealm's DLC release schedule. Two more as-of-yet unannounced characters will join <i>Injustice</i>'s roster at a later date.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/08/injustice-joins-evo-2013s-lineup-dlc-coming-to-wii-u-this-summ/">Injustice joins EVO 2013's lineup, DLC coming to Wii U this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 May 2013 23:00:00 EST. EVO is the Super Bowl of fighting games, but also a cultural mecca for those who share the genre as their life's passion.<br /><br />This year's proceedings were punctuated by surprises, upsets and incredible displays of skill and technical prowess, perhaps more so than any EVO in recent memory. Last year's <em>Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition</em> champion, Fuudo, tied with three others for <em>ninth place</em> at this year's tournament, for instance. Conversely, Perfect Legend successfully defended his throne as <em>Mortal Kombat</em> champion, becoming the first person to retain their title since Daigo Umehara's <em>SSF4</em> victory in 2010.<br /><br />Head on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/10/get-hype-evo-2012-results-and-grand-finals-videos/#continued">past the break</a> for results of the seven major tournaments that took place over the weekend, along with videos of the Grand Finals for each game, courtesy of IGN. If you're pressed for time, allow us to make some recommendations: Watch the first rounds of the <em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> and <em>SSF4:AE Ver. 2012</em> Grand Finals for two of the most exciting KOs of the weekend, and peep the <em>King of Fighters XIII</em> Grand Finals for the most excitable stream commentators in the entire world.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/10/get-hype-evo-2012-results-and-grand-finals-videos/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Get hype: EVO 2012 results and Grand Finals videos</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/10/get-hype-evo-2012-results-and-grand-finals-videos/">Get hype: EVO 2012 results and Grand Finals videos</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Jul 2012 16:30:00 EST. While the parts used in the stick are not explicitly broken down, the fact that it's part of the manufacturer's Fightstick Pro line implies heavy usage of Sanwa Denshi buttons and sticks.<br /><br />For all intents and purposes, the limited edition joint appears to be a translucent purple version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/25/mad-catz-street-fighter-x-tekken-sticks-up-for-pre-order-at-160/">Mad Catz's <em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em> stick</a>, and at $159.99 it costs about the same as well. Pre-orders are <a href="https://store.gameshark.com/secure/checkout/us/showCart.asp">now active</a> at Mad Catz's GameShark shop.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/06/madcatz-producing-limited-edition-evo-fightsticks/">MadCatz producing limited edition EVO fightsticks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 06 Jul 2012 20:15:00 EST. "<em>All-Stars</em> is also a total love-letter to Sony fans. From the characters, to their special moves, to the incredible level 3 supers, and the stages themselves, I'm not sure there's ever been such a giant dose of fan-service in Sony history."<br /><br />Did we mention Killian used to be in PR? He will be working with third-party studios such as Fun Bits Interactive, Queasy Games, thatgamecompany, Giant Sparrow, and of course <em>All-Stars</em>' SuperBot Entertainment. Killian will be bringing <em>All-Stars</em> to EVO this weekend, as part of PlayStation's first official presence at the tournament.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/02/street-fighters-seth-killian-is-now-lead-game-designer-at-sony/">Street Fighter's Seth Killian is now lead game designer at Sony Santa Monica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Jul 2012 12:25:00 EST. We assume it was the <em>other </em>half that allowed him to divulge the details behind how <em>SpyParty</em>, a one-on-one asymmetric Turing Test, snagged a featured spot at the year's largest fighting-game gathering:<br /><br />"It all started with Seth Killian," Hecker said. "Seth and I have talked about my goals for <em>SpyParty </em>to be a game that can eventually be counted among the most intensely competitive player-skill games we have, games like Counter-Strike, Starcraft, <em>LoL</em>, <em>Dota</em> and Street Fighter, and he's been really supportive of that goal.<br /><br />"Seth emailed me and asked if I'd be interested in bringing <em>SpyParty </em>to EVO. I knew a bit about EVO and was kind of blown away by the offer."<br /><br /><em>SpyParty </em>is<a href="http://evo.shoryuken.com/2012/06/25/announcing-the-evo-2012-indie-showcase-titles/"> one of</a> EVO 2012's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/21/spyparty-selected-as-the-indie-showcase-title-for-evo-2012/">Indie Showcase</a> titles, and will be available for anyone to try out on the expo floor, which is completely free and open to the public July 6-7 at Las Vegas' Caesars Palace.<br /><br />The game itself is based on subtlety, precision and practice, much like many fighting games, but it doesn't involve any twitch movements, bright, flashing colors or hadoukens - and it comes with a four-page manual that <em>must </em>be read before anyone attempts to play it. In terms of pacing for the American audience: if <em>Mortal Kombat</em> is football, <em>SpyParty </em>is soccer.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/25/crashing-evo-spypartys-chris-hecker-on-depth-and-fighting-game/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Crashing EVO: SpyParty's Chris Hecker on depth and fighting games</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/25/crashing-evo-spypartys-chris-hecker-on-depth-and-fighting-game/">Crashing EVO: SpyParty's Chris Hecker on depth and fighting games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jun 2012 19:00:00 EST. Well, you can blame yesterday's stealthy system update, which has wreaked havoc with some wireless controllers - specifically, the TurboFire 2, WildFire 2, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/29/watch-your-back-dreamcast-vmu-here-comes-the-turbofire-evo/">EVO</a> line and the Super Sports 3X steering wheel peripheral.<br /><br />Right now, there is a fix, but it's complicated. You'll have to download a software update made specifically for your hardware, which you can find <a href="http://www.codejunkies.com/update/">here</a>. The organizers of the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/evo-2012">Evo</a> fighting game tournament series have revealed this year's lineup of games, allowing you to start practicing now! Ideally, you'd have been playing a bunch of fighters already, but now you have a better idea of which ones you should be obsessively replaying. The roster includes <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken">Street Fighter X Tekken</a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/super-street-fighter-iv-arcade-edition-ver-2012">Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver. 2012</a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3">Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/soulcalibur-5">Soulcalibur 5</a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/king-of-fighters-xiii">King of Fighters 13</a></em>, and <em>Mortal Kombat.</em> Admittedly, you'll have a harder time getting practice in on a couple of those right now.<br />
<br />
The locations and dates for this year's events were also announced, with tournaments scheduled for all over the world. <a href="http://shoryuken.com/2012/01/03/introducing-the-evo-2012-game-linup-and-tournament-season/">Shoryuken</a> has the full list of locations for fightstick-toting pilgrims. This year, there are more tournaments, "which means more chances to earn seeding points." In addition, you can earn those points from any of those games, making it easier to move on if you're not a <em>Street Fighter</em> or <em>MvC3</em> player.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/04/heres-what-youll-be-fighting-over-at-evo-2012/">Here's what you'll be fighting over at Evo 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Jan 2012 13:04:00 EST. It only makes sense there'd be another EVO, right? Last year's tournament was watched by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/04/over-2-million-watched-evo-2011-tourney-online/">over two million people online</a>, and 2012's main event tournament is looking to blow it up even bigger. EVO 2012 has been scheduled for July 6 through 8, and will once again take place at Caesar's Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.<br />
<br />
No participating games have been revealed, though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/27/super-street-fighter-iv-arcade-edition-ver-2012-character-ch/"><em>Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver. 2012</em></a> are likely candidates.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/17/punchageddon-evo-2012-comes-back-to-vegas-july-6-8-2012/">Punchageddon: EVO 2012 comes back to Vegas July 6-8, 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Oct 2011 22:00:00 EST. Judging by readers' warm reception of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/31/watch-evo-2011-championship-series-live-on-joystiq-see-dudes-ge/">EVO 2011 Championship Series</a> livestream we published during the event last weekend, the number of pro fighting game spectators is rapidly expanding. According to a press release distributed by the event's organizers, a record-breaking two million-plus viewers tuned into the different brawls therein over the weekend.<br />
<br />
Perhaps more impressive is how these two million souls took to Twitter with their enthusiasm for the participants, making the names of top-tier fighters four out of ten worldwide trending topics on the social networking platform. This might be the tournament's most impressive feat of all: For one evening, EVO 2011 managed to confuse the living hell out of everyone else on Twitter.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/04/over-2-million-watched-evo-2011-tourney-online/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Over 2 million watched EVO 2011 tourney online</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/04/over-2-million-watched-evo-2011-tourney-online/">Over 2 million watched EVO 2011 tourney online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Aug 2011 20:30:00 EST. "Obviously, the <em>Street Fighter</em> characters will have to have their fireballs. Ryu without a fireball just wouldn't be ... right," Tekken game director Katsuhiro Harada told <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/08/02/evo-2k-harada-details-tekken-hybrid-tekken-tag-tournament-2-prologue/">PlayStation Blog</a> at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/evo-2011">EVO 2011</a> last weekend. "Obviously we'll need it."<br />
<br />
While <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-x-street-fighter"><em>Tekken X Street Fighter</em></a> development is still in the earliest stages, the confirmation that characters will still be able to toss projectiles is curious. The only thing we've seen of the game so far has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/19/what-ryu-looking-at-ryu-in-tekken-x-street-fighter-of-course/">a render of Ryu</a> (above).<br />
<br />
Harada doesn't know exactly how projectiles will make their way into the game yet, but it doesn't stop him from hypothesizing on how fireballs will be implemented. Additionally, he provides some details on a handful of the other upcoming <em>Tekken</em> games, including character list talk for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2-prologue"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue</em></a> and an "85%" confirmation of stereoscopic 3D in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tekken-tag-tournament-2"><em>Tekken Tag Tournament 2</em></a> -- all of which you can read about in the full interview through that Source link below!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/02/ryu-will-have-his-hadouken-in-tekken-x-street-fighter/">Ryu will have his hadouken in Tekken X Street Fighter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Aug 2011 22:30:00 EST. When we were 8, we spent our time playing <em>Street Fighter</em><em> </em>with friends, for fun, or for Pogs if we were feeling feisty. Eight-year-old <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4180q1_OgoA">Noah</a> spends his time viciously defeating grown men in professional <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 3 </em></a>tournaments, as shown in the above EVO 2011 video. This year, Noah made it into the top 48 playing Hulk, Sentinel and Wesker, before being <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS_3oy6boxo">knocked out</a> by a much taller and broader player, Chris G. You'll still lose at <em>Super Street Fighter IV</em> a bunch of times if you compete -- so it won't be <em>that</em> different. But the organizers have partnered with fighting game tournaments in the US and elsewhere to create a <a href="http://shoryuken.com/content/evo-2011-tournament-season-date-location-announced-3033/">series of Evo ranking events</a>. There are also <em>online</em> tournaments (the Xbox Live one has passed) for people who can't reach the event locations, including a <a href="http://evo2k.com/?p=755">PSN tournament</a> on Saturday, January 22.<br />
<br />
All of these <em>small-time</em> tourneys will lead up to the main event, the Evolution World Finals, at the Rio Casino in Vegas, from July 29 through July 31.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/06/evo-fighting-game-tournament-announces-2011-season/">Evo fighting game tournament announces 2011 season</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Jan 2011 00:00:00 EST. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/EVO-2010">EVO 2010</a> concluding this past week, you're likely jonesing for <em>the grody juggles</em> and <em>those tech combos</em> -- it's only natural to go through withdrawal. We are, too, but we have something to tide you over just past the break: an expertly-crafted farewell video, courtesy of <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9037105">1UP's Richard Li</a>. It's like those tearful series finale end segments you've seen on TV, except it's full of a bunch of strangers you may have never seen.<br />

With "over 3,000 player signups," this year's Evolution Championship Series had the largest turnout in the tourney's history -- perhaps unsurprising given the recent resurgence in the popularity of fighting games. What's even less surprising? Daigo "The Beast" Umehara took the number one spot in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/super-street-fighter-iv">Super Street Fighter IV</a></em>, once again trouncing his competition. Meanwhile, Justin Wong headed up the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-2">Marvel vs Capcom 2</a></em> ladder and Yoichiro "Garu" Aruga topped the <em>Melty Blood</em> boards.<br />
<br />
Alongside the ballyhoo and smack talkery of EVO 2010's proceedings came the announcement of the first-ever EVO Japan, set for September 11 and 12 (just before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/26/tokyo-game-show-2010-slated-for-sept-16-19/">the Tokyo Game Show</a>). According to <a href="http://www.versuscity.net/2010/07/12/evolution-japan-announced/">Versus City</a>, the event will take place "somewhere in the Tokyo/Kawasaki area" and is being put together by the EVO staff with the folks from <a href="http://godsgarden.jp/pc/?ml_lang=en">Godsgarden</a>. We've listed all of the winners after the break, alongside a video of the <em>dramatic</em> final <em>SSFIV</em> round.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/12/daigo-umehara-wins-at-evo-2010-evo-japan-announced/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Daigo Umehara wins at EVO 2010; EVO Japan announced</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/12/daigo-umehara-wins-at-evo-2010-evo-japan-announced/">Daigo Umehara wins at EVO 2010; EVO Japan announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Jul 2010 17:00:00 EST. The annual <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/evo">EVO</a> fighting game tournament promises to be full of amazing comebacks, seemingly endless combos and furious Hadoken duels -- and you'll be able to watch it both online and on TV. Capcom announced that G4 will stream coverage of the event on its <a href="http://g4tv.com/EVO">website</a> through the whole July 9-11 tournament, and will also run a special EVO edition of X-play on July 20. If they have any sense, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZZUMjoxfZA">Pringles</a> will be sponsoring the broadcast.<br />

We have to hand it to Justin Wong -- he put up a good fight. Defeating all American contestants in a three-round, GameStop-sponsored <a href="http://www.kineda.com/justin-wong-wins-sfiv-national-tournament-and-daigo-wins-international-title/"><em>Street Fighter IV</em> tournament</a> over the course of the past two months, the NY-based <em>Street Fighter</em> enthusiast can walk tall knowing he took down the best of what America had to offer. What we didn't know <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/a-new-street-fighter-iv-national-tournament-appears/">when this tournament was announced</a>, however, was that a brief "international title championship" would take place immediately following the battle's end.<br /><br />After toppling Korea's Poongko, as well as Japan's Iyo, Wong (playing as Rufus) was left to compete with Japan's other entry, Daigo. Daigo apparently swept Wong using Ryu four to zero. Though Wong may not have walked away with the title of "international champion," he did likely need a truck for the <em>Street Fighter IV</em> arcade machine he won and, ya know, that enormous trophy he's holding.<br /><br />[Image Credit: <a href="http://www.kineda.com/justin-wong-wins-sfiv-national-tournament-and-daigo-wins-international-title/">kineda</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/19/justin-wong-wins-national-sfiv-tourney-daigo-remains-world-cham/">Justin Wong wins national SFIV tourney, Daigo remains world champ</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 19 Apr 2009 19:00:00 EST. It appears Capcom is getting used to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/04/capcom-hosts-blood-drive-at-re5-event-in-la/">tapping the veins</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/21/resident-evil-5-blood-drive-captured-on-video-lampooned/">semi-altruistic</a> gamers. Its latest idea: "Street Fighter Fights Hunger." In conjunction with GameStop, the publisher will hold a food drive at the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/evo-2009-championship-series-coming-to-las-vegas-in-july?icid=sphere_blogsmith_inpage_joystiqnintendo">EVO</a> <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/sf-iv"><em>Street Fighter IV</em></a> US National Championship Finals, to be held at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco on April 18 at 7 pm PT.<br /><br />Food items will be given to the Second Harvest Food Bank and donations should be made in the form of canned goods or "nominal donations." Oh, you want to know what'll actually go down at this public event beyond the charitable stuff? Check out the details after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/san-frans-sfiv-championships-to-host-food-drives/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>San Fran's SFIV championships to host food drive</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/san-frans-sfiv-championships-to-host-food-drives/">San Fran's SFIV championships to host food drive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Apr 2009 16:45:00 EST. We love art of all kinds, and we're glad to report that Gallery Nucleus and I am 8-bit are teaming up to present a <em>Street Fighter</em> art exhibition in Alhambra, California from April 25 - May 11. There you'll be able to check out some contributions from Udon, the wonderful folks behind <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/SSFIITHDR"><em>SSFIITHDR</em></a>, and enjoy some of the festivities going down outside of looking at art. These activities include:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Cosplay contest (show up in cosplay, get 15% off store purchases, excluding already discounted goods)</li>
    <li><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv">Street Fighter IV</a> </em>tournament hosted by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/evo-2009-championship-series-coming-to-las-vegas-in-july/">EVO</a> (first place wins a cool $500)</li>
    <li>Raffle (free ticket for first 100 guests, $1 each after that)</li>
    <li>Free refreshments</li>
    <li>Music by Ronikus</li>
</ul>
Sounds like a good time. We had fun at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/16/joystiq-at-the-street-fighter-iv-launch-party/">our last Capcom party</a>, so we're guessing this one will also be a hoot. <div align="left">Are you 'that guy' at the arcade? The guy calmly defeating challenger after challenger on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/16/street-fighter-iv-not-coming-to-u-s-arcades/">gray market <em>Street Fighter IV</em> cabinet</a>, milking your dollar bill for all it's worth? You know, the guy <em>stealing all our money</em>? Well how would you feel if we told you that Capcom is partnering up with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamestop">GameStop</a> and the <a href="http://evo2k.com/">EVO Championship Series</a> to bring you the very first <em>Street Fighter IV</em> National Tournament? Your head would explode?! Uh oh, maybe we should have kept this to ourselves...<br /><br />Anyway, starting on February 21st at "<a href="http://www.gamestop.com/gs/tournaments/sf4/SF4TournamentStoresRnd1.pdf">locations EVERYWHERE</a>" (warning: PDF link), GameStop will hold the first of three rounds determining the best of the best <em>SFIV</em> players in the country. Following that, the second round will take place on February 28th at "regional stores" and second-round victors will move on to the semi-finals on March 14th. Finally, the 16 winners of the semi-finals will be flown to San Francisco for the final competition, where they'll all receive the upcoming <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/01/08/mad-catz-announces-sfiv-controllers-accessories/"><em>SFIV</em> Mad Catz arcade sticks and fighting pads</a>, limited edition tournament belts and a place in the semi-final bracket at the <a href="http://evo2k.com/?p=169">EVO World Finals</a> in Las Vegas. But what, pray tell, does the winner of the final round get? How about an official <em>Street Fighter IV</em> arcade cabinet? If you haven't already burst out the door and run to a GameStop to sign up, you may want to do so posthaste.<br /></div>

Fighting game fanatics, wonderful news comes courtesy of our good friends at Capcom: <a href="http://evo2k.com/">EVO 2009 is on</a>! For those of you who aren't in the know, EVO is a huge fighting game tournament open to gamers from around the world. It's also <a href="http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&amp;search_query=evo+championship+series+capcom&amp;aq=f">an awesome search term on YouTube</a>. This year's tournament will go down in Las Vegas from July 17 to July 19 and will feature a variety of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/capcom">Capcom</a> games, as well as some other notable fighters like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soul-calibur-iv">Soulcalibur IV</a></em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/27/guilty-gear-xx-accent-core-plus-coming-to-ps2-psp-and-wii/"><em>Guilty Gear XX Accent Core</em></a>. The Capcom games to be featured include:<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv"><em>Street Fighter IV</em></a></li>
    <li><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/28/super-street-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix-patch-on-the-way/">Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix</a> </em>(single and teams)<br /></li>
    <li><em>Marvel Vs. Capcom 2</em></li>
    <li><em>Street Fighter III: Third Strike </em>(2 vs 2 teams)</li>
    <li><a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/tatsunoko-vs-capcom"><em>Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom</em></a></li>
</ul>
Sounds like quite the tournament, and we're very glad to see <em>Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom</em> getting some love. We're still holding out hope that it'll get localized some day, as unrealistic as that may be.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/s-kill/blog/2009/02/02/the_mother_of_all_fighting_game_competitions_is_back_evo_2009">Capcom Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/evo-2009-championship-series-coming-to-las-vegas-in-july/">EVO 2009 Championship Series coming to Las Vegas in July</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Feb 2009 12:21:00 EST.
