Los Angeles gallery iam8bit is hosting an art exhibit in celebration of 1980s games, called "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/23/iam8bit-entertainment-system-show-features-art-inspired-by-198/">iam8bit Entertainment System</a>." Here's where it gets a tad confusing: It also has a physical console designed specifically for retro gaming, called "iam8bit Entertainment System." So, the iam8bit Entertainment System will be at iam8bit Entertainment System from June 7 to June 20, and the console will be available to order online at <a href="http://iam8bit.com/">iam8bit</a>.<br />
<br />
Sometimes we just don't understand art.<br />
<br />
Iam8bit Entertainment System - the exhibit - hosts a ton of work from prominent artists around the globe, including the ones whose installments are shown in the gallery below: Olly Moss, Dadu Shin, DKNG Studios, Hine Mizushima, JC Richard, Jophen Stein, Mark Englert and Steve Courtney.<br />
<br />
The show will include a treat for <em>DuckTales: Remastered</em> fans, with a 10 foot x 10 foot recreation of Uncle Scrooge McDuck's money bin, complete with giant gold coins and gems, and the Green Cheese of Longevity. It's like a ball pit for kids that's really for adults. Now <em>that</em> we understand.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-artwork/">iam8bit Entertainment System Artwork</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-artwork/#5940987"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/dadu-shin---mega-man-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-artwork/#5940988"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/dkng-studios---arcade_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-artwork/#5940989"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/hinee-mizushima-nintendo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-artwork/#5940990"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/jc-richard-pitfall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-artwork/#5940991"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/jophen-stein-contra_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-0/">iam8bit Entertainment System</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-0/#5940975"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/iam8bit-entertainment-system-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-0/#5940976"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/iam8bit-entertainment-system-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-0/#5940977"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/iam8bit-entertainment-system-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-0/#5940978"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/iam8bit-entertainment-system-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-entertainment-system-0/#5940979"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/iam8bit-entertainment-system-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/06/iam8bits-entertainment-system-to-feature-in-retro-art-exhibit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>iam8bit's Entertainment System to feature in retro art exhibit</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/06/iam8bits-entertainment-system-to-feature-in-retro-art-exhibit/">iam8bit's Entertainment System to feature in retro art exhibit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Jun 2013 22:30:00 EST. It wasn't necessarily flashier, prettier or more famous than any of the other titles, but it was a game made for public exhibitions - literally.<br /><br />"<em>Hokra </em>was originally created with the public space in mind, but it was also developed to be the kind of game that I'd like to play with my friends," Corbetta told Joystiq.<br /><br /><em>Hokra </em>premiered on May 12, 2011 at the NYU Game Center's <a href="http://gamecenter.nyu.edu/2011/02/announcing-2nd-annual-no-quarter-exhibition-of-games">No Quarter</a> exhibition, and Corbetta developed it with that venue specifically in mind.<br /><br />"I developed <em>Hokra </em>to be a multiplayer game, and to be honest when I was first developing it I wasn't thinking about how to sell it," he said. "I was only thinking about how to make the best possible game, and since it was going to be displayed in a gallery space, I knew there would always be multiple people around to play it."<br /><br /><em>Hokra </em>is a simplistic, competitive digital sports game for four local players, and only four local players. Not online, not three, two or one, but four physical people ideally using Xbox 360 controllers, always. This design choice stems from <em>Hokra</em>'s gallery goal, but also from Corbetta's passion for local multiplayer titles.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/12/indiecade-at-e3-hokra-a-minimalist-sports-game-with-huge-appea/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>IndieCade at E3: Hokra, a minimalist sports game with huge appeal, equal barriers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/12/indiecade-at-e3-hokra-a-minimalist-sports-game-with-huge-appea/">IndieCade at E3: Hokra, a minimalist sports game with huge appeal, equal barriers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Jun 2012 06:30:00 EST. Jason Brockert is traditionally a landscape painter, but one day he noticed a Star Wars Stormtrooper figurine sitting on his shelf, and decided to try painting it. "The first one came out terrible," he says. "A week later, I was like I'll try again. The second one, I was like oh, that's kind of cool. And it was a lot of fun, too. I had more fun doing that then I'd had in six months."<br />
	<br />
	He <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/american-icons-at-iam8bit/#/17">finished the Stormtrooper painting</a> a little while after that, and then decided to do more figures, and then old game consoles and cartridges, collecting them on eBay and then painting them in his elaborate, almost idealistic way. "Those were the two things I loved as a kid," says Brockert, "and the things I wanted to recollect, that my mother had thrown away I don't know how long ago."<br />
	<br />
	Brockert's work is currently on display in <a href="http://iam8bit.com/the-gallery/">a show called "American Icons"</a> at the iam8bit gallery in Los Angeles' Echo Park. All of his works and prints are available for purchase, and the Exhibition (most of which you can see below) runs through December 18.<br />

	If you don't already feel completely unhip for not yet attending the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-iam8bit/">SUPER iam8bit</a> exhibition in Los Angeles, this video will help depress you to the appropriate levels of self-loathing. The new SUPER iam8bit gallery in Echo Park looks like a little slice of gamer heaven on the West Coast, and if those lines are anything to judge by, <em>los angeles</em> can't wait to get in.<br />
	<br />
	The show runs until September 10, so if you like what you see in the video above and additional artwork below, head down to Cali and check out founder Jon Gibson's gaming gallery. Gibson plans on hosting a myriad of events in his new space, and we'll be on the lookout for news about chiptune concerts and screenings of <em>Super Mario Bros.</em> in the near future.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/13/watch-super-iam8bit-host-more-than-1-000-gamers-on-opening-night/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch SUPER iam8bit host more than 1,000 gamers on opening night, be jealous</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/13/watch-super-iam8bit-host-more-than-1-000-gamers-on-opening-night/">Watch SUPER iam8bit host more than 1,000 gamers on opening night, be jealous</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 13 Aug 2011 18:30:00 EST. I am 8-bit is an annual art exhibition that celebrates classic videogame culture and iconography, with an emphasis on Nintendo and their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nes">NES</a>-era <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/konami">third</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/capcom">parties</a>. It's also the source of some amazing game-related art, like the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/donkeykong"><em>Donkey Kong</em></a>-inspired painting shown above, "Mario's Lament" by Reuben Rude. We'd be proud to display any of these paintings, sculptures, or crafts in our own Fancaves.<br /><br />Just like every year, we'll be gazing wistfully at these previews and cursing our luck for not being Californian or California-adjacent.
