The heralded 2001 board game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/carcassonne"><em>Carcassonne</em></a>, designed by Klaus-J&uuml;rgen Wrede of Germany, has already been quite excellently adapted for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/carcassonne-tiles-onto-arcade/">XBLA</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/05/get-some-carcassonne-on-your-iphone-and-ipod-touch/">iOS</a>, by two different developers no less. Now a third, German studio exozet, is working on a version for Android, BlackBerry and Java-based mobile platforms.<br />
<br />
Teased on an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xperia-play/">Xperia Play</a> handset, exozet's adaptation looks to crisply capture the popular game -- which centers on building cities and deploying followers called "meeple" -- on the little screen. It's due out by <strike>year's end</strike> the end of Q2.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/18/carcassonne-coming-in-android-blackberry-flavors/">Carcassonne coming in Android, BlackBerry flavors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Mar 2011 19:26:00 EST. The official <em>Settlers of Catan</em> <a href="http://catan.com/gamenews.html">website</a> announced that a version of the game is currently building a road to iPhone. The new version will be developed by Exozet, which previously made <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/18/settlers-of-catan-expanding-empire-coming-to-ds/">Catan: The First Island</a></em>. This will <em>not</em> be a port of XBLA's <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/catan">Catan</a></em> by Big Huge Games.<br /><br />The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/iPhone/">iPhone</a> version currently has a release date of "summer" and is being created in collaboration with designer Klaus Teuber. Hopefully Exozet will take its time and update the graphics instead of doing a straight port of the mobile version it previously released.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.whattheyplay.com/blog/2009/07/23/official-settlers-of-catan-game-coming-to-iphone/">What They Play</a>]<br />

<div align="center"><strong><em>video from the mobile version</em></strong><br /></div>
Listen, we're appreciative of all versions of <em>Settlers of Catan</em> (except the <a href="http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/278">card game</a>, mostly), but this is the version we've been waiting for: the DS-bound <em>Catan: The First Island</em>. Really, it could have been called <em>Catan: A Crappy Version</em> and we'd still be chest-bumping and high-fiving; on this one, we're easy to please. Got numbers? Resources? We can make jokes about sheep? Done.<br /><br />There are no details available right now beyond the fact that there will be a DS version of the mobile <em>Catan: The First Island</em> released sometime, and it'll be similar to the game in the video above, but this is definitely one to keep an eye on.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/18/it-just-makes-sense-settlers-of-catan-lands-on-the-ds-at-last/">It just makes sense: Settlers of Catan lands on the DS at last</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 Oct 2008 13:43:00 EST.
