Microsoft is looking to chip in for charity through a new initiative on October 1 called Gaming and Giving for Good. All you have to do to get involved is register and get to gaming online. Basically, family and friends pledge money for each hour you game online. Don't have Gold? Don't sweat it -- by registering, you'll get a free weekend of Gold so you can fulfill your end of the bargain.

All proceeds benefit Extra Life, a fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals which supports over 170 hospitals across North America. GameStop has partnered with Microsoft to host in-store events promoting the Gaming for Good event.
You can game and give for good on Xbox 360 October 1 originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 13 Sep 2011 17:00:00 EST. Is there anything worse than succumbing to the grenade launcher -- AKA the dreaded noob tube -- in Modern Warfare 2? Several scientific studies (not really) have shown that there is not. And yet, Infinity Ward's Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling has agreed to do just that. As part of an Extra Life charity gaming marathon supporting Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, Bowling has agreed to a match of Modern Warfare 2 with Pixel Enemy's BrassMonkeigh. Furthermore, Bowling will actually allow himself to be noob tubed during said match.

Bowling is hoping to raise $5,000 with his marathon, with users contributing $1 for each of the 24 hours he will be playing various games. With a degrading noob tubing on the table, we can only hope he reaches his goal. If you're interested in setting up your own charity marathon (with or without celebrity pwning), head over to the Extra Life charity website.
Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling to be noob tubed for charity originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 20 Sep 2010 22:00:00 EST. Wow, talk about milking a franchise. Just a year after they and 1300 other gamers helped raise $120,000 to fund pediatric cancer research and treatment, Sarcastic Gamer is gearing up to hold the Extra Life charity gaming marathon again. (Really guys? Annualizing? Maybe they should get Madden as a spokesperson, AMIRITE?)

If you, for some reason, want to support a sequel instead of an original IP, you can sign up to take part right here. Then, find a few people to sponsor you to play games all day Oct. 17. Here's hoping that next time Sarcastic Gamer can find a cure for sequelitis.
Extra Life helping sick kids ... again originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 14 Aug 2009 10:00:00 EST. This is just a friendly reminder that the Extra Life charity gaming marathon is up and running today. Gamers around the world are currently hard at play earning money to benefit the Texas Children's Cancer Center. If you've registered to be a part of the marathon, we salute you and hope you've brought some caffeine and snacks to the party.

If you weren't able to sign up in time, a rain date is being setup for next Saturday, October 25. Also, don't forget that you don't have to participate in the marathon to contribute. Extra Life will be accepting direct donations until October 28.
Reminder: Extra Life charity marathon is today originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 18 Oct 2008 16:00:00 EST. We've all had gaming sessions so lengthy that a thin layer of film formed between our posteriors and our furniture -- but rarely have we ever had a worthwhile reason for doing so. However, as of 9 a.m. today, gaggles of stick-to-it-ive gamers set off on a 24-hour gaming marathon to raise money for the Texas Children's Cancer Center, as part of Sarcastic Gamer's Extra Life charity event.

While it's too late to join in today's festivities, a "Rain Date", scheduled for next Saturday, will allow latecomers to garner donations and participate in the marathon. Not interested in developing bedsores? You could always donate directly to the cause -- or offer participants in your area a tall cup of coffee (or a much appreciated hand massage).
Reminder: Extra Life charity marathon taking place today originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 18 Oct 2008 13:30:00 EST. It's another 24-hour gaming event for charity. This one features our friends at the PS Nation podcast, and will begin tomorrow. The team is asking for donations of any kind.

"Extra Life is about getting a new group of people involved in helping fight pediatric cancer. There are plenty of "walk-a-thons" and "run-a-thons" and honestly many who consider themselves "gamers" might not participate in that because it doesn't interest them. Extra Life is about going to a completely different group of people and asking them to help out and do what they enjoy at the same time."

To find out more and to donate, click here. Our friends at Sarcastic Gamer are putting together a very special gaming marathon to benefit the Texas Children's Cancer Center. Set to begin October 18, 2008, Extra Life asks gamers to help raise money during a mass 24 hour gaming marathon. The concept is simple, sign up on the Extra Life website, find four sponsors willing to pay one dollar per every hour played, and start playing on October 18. All of the money earned during the marathon will go to the Texas Children's Cancer Center at Texas Children's Hospital. To find out how you can become part of Extra Life, head over to the official website.
Sign up for Extra Life, help fight cancer originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 12 Sep 2008 16:45:00 EST. With billions of loyal fans visiting our site each hour, we have a considerable, almost daunting amount of power. It's a power we occasionally use for evil or just for stupid, but we decided this morning that we'd do something good with it for a change and direct your attention to Extra Life.

Fresh from the victory of their non-boycott, Sarcastic Gamer is once again rallying the troops, this time asking them to set aside Oct. 18 for an all-day gaming marathon. All you have to do is get friends and loved ones to sponsor your decadence with money that goes straight to the Texas Children's Cancer Center. It's like a charity fun run, but for fat people.

It's a great effort, but do us a favor and take at least a couple of breaks, will you? The last thing you want to do is fight cancer while you die of dehydration.
Extra Life charity lets gamers battle cancer originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 12 Sep 2008 10:00:00 EST. Does he look familiar to you? That face ... it must be Half-Life's G-man. We should probably ask Scott Johnson about it.
