The official Bethesda blog has posted an in-depth FAQ detailing exactly how the PC version of the upcoming Brink will make use of dedicated servers. Interested players will be able to download the free standalone server on Steam prior to the game's release (the game itself will also pre-load on Steam, according to Bethesda), then configure and run it right through the Steam client.

The setup will come with a few standard settings, but players will be able to customize their games as much as they'd like, setting up certain game modes, and customizing things like time limits, team sizes, passwords, and even the availability of certain buffs and friendly fire.

In short, Splash Damage is going old-school, and allowing players (as well as third-party server providers) to run whatever games they'd like on their own. That's much more generous than the less open options some high-profile multiplayer games have offered recently, so PC gamers should appreciate it.
Bethesda details how Brink's dedicated servers will work on PC originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 29 Apr 2011 04:00:00 EST. The debut trailer for LittleBigPlanet 2 created more questions than it answered, most of them relating to the sequel's compatibility with DLC for the first game, and how the new features promised in said trailer would function. A handful of these queries have been put to rest by a FAQ post published on the PlayStation.Blog.

For instance, the post confirms that all objects, costumes and decorations collected in the original game should carry over, except for objects using a graphical glitch or exploit. More importantly, QI host and wildlife enthusiast Stephen Fry will reprise his role as the game's omniscient narrator. However, the FAQ also references "custom Voice Acting," a feature with a capacity for hilarity that we've yet to be able to comprehend. It's a big system, and kind of a big mystery, given that the only advance notice we had of the thing was a Nikkei blurb two days prior. While we can't answer the big questions, like how long this idea has been in the works, and whether a bigger handheld is a good idea as an alternative to the DS's continual miniaturization, we can round up what we know and can reasonably speculate about the DSi XL -- right after the jump.
Killzone 2 is a remarkably divisive game, as noted in the fierce comments to our last hands-on post. Killzone 2 is one of the few games that can get overzealous PS3 fans, insecure 360 fanboys, and downright-confused Wii owners in one place and start a verbal riot. With so much fervor surrounding the title, we decided to simply break down the game and answer some of your more burning questions.

When is it coming out?
Killzone 2 will be available in North America on February 27, 2009. Expect a "similar timeframe" for European countries.

What are the controls like?
The controls are much slower than most other FPS games on the market. Instead of running and gunning, you'll be taking cover and aiming down your sights. When behind a wall or object, you'll have to hold the cover button. Releasing it will allow you to peek out and fire your gun. It takes some time to get used to fully first person cover, but it's meant to keep the experience immersive. If you play like the guys at G4, you will die. A lot. Funny thing about huge updates: They come with lots of potential niggles and details that need to be clarified. Eric Lempel over at the PlayStation.Blog has done his best to address a number of the most frequently asked questions about firmware 2.40. In particular, there's clarification that the web browser will not work during gameplay. Nor will voice chat, changing display settings and the PlayStation Store.

The FAQ also reveals that Sony is working with publishers to "ensure that trophies are supported across the board in the future," which is a great sign. We have a feeling we're going to want to get our hands on as many trophies as we can once the update hits. Trophy stat info is held server-side, so you will be able to view the trophies of your friends even if they're offline (as Eric did in the second video). Sadly, unlocking a trophy does not "currently" make a noise (we're crossing our fingers for 2.41!) and Eric's favorite cheese is Mozzarella. An interesting choice.

Check out the post over at the PlayStation Blog for the full FAQ. We think that pretty much covers everything, unless you can think of something else that's still uncertain?
Eric Lempel answers your frequently asked 2.40 questions originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 30 Jun 2008 19:00:00 EST. Sure, Phantom Hourglass is probably going to be the hottest game of the year -- or at least one of them, considering the Pokémon invasion we've experienced -- but do you know everything about it? IGN has put together a helpful FAQ for the highly-anticipated DS title that's just chock full of information. Some of it is pretty basic, like "Who developed this one?" (Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development! Interesting tidbit: this is the team's first handheld Zelda), but there are more complicated and subjective questions as well, such as, "I never played Wind Waker, will I be totally lost?" IGN says no, and hopefully relieves some tension for some of you in the process.

They also get into the complex matter of the Zelda timeline, and the many delays this latest entry suffered prior to release. It's a nice recap for those of you dying for more scraps about next month's release. We recommend taking it in with a video or two.

Everything you wanted to know about Phantom Hourglass but were afraid to ask originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 14 Sep 2007 14:55:00 EST. It was written for an audience that doesn't obsessively check video game news sites every day (nerds!...we love you guys), and as such, it's an extremely comprehensive database on pretty much everything about the Wii, updated with all the new information from the September 14th event. If you need a little refresher course, or just want to link one of your living-under-a-rock friends and do a little grassroots marketing, head on over to IGN (and try not to get buried in advertisements).
