Ubisoft has released its financial information for the 12 month period ending March 31, 2013, which by all accounts seems to have been a pretty legit fiscal year for the publisher/developer conglomerate. The company crossed the finish line with &euro;1.256 billion ($1.615 billion) in revenue and &euro;64.8 million ($83.3 million) in profit, an 18.3 and 73.7-percent year-over-year increase, respectively, when compared to the &euro;1.061 billion ($1.364 billion) in revenue and &euro;37.3 million ($47.9 million) in profit recorded at the end of 2012.<br />
<br />
Ubisoft contributes its stellar year to the continued success of its main three franchises, Assassin's Creed, Just Dance and Far Cry, the latest entries in which have all sold between <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/far-cry-3-up-to-6-million-shipped-and-digital-sales/">six and 12 million copies</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/ubisoft-ends-fiscal-2013-with-64-8-million-in-profit/">Ubisoft ends fiscal 2013 with €64.8 million in profit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 May 2013 12:15:00 EST. We thought <em>Far Cry 3</em> had "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/04/far-cry-3-review/#review">excellent, explicit design</a>" and it taught us the dangers of trusting in goats, which is probably the most important lesson we've ever gleaned from a game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/14/ultimate-far-cry-splinter-cell-bundles-spotted-on-uk-retail-s/">'Ultimate' Far Cry, Splinter Cell bundles spotted on UK retail site</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Jan 2013 13:30:00 EST. Okay, okay, we've had a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/event/e3-2011">pretty exciting day</a>. But <em>Far Cry 3</em>? That's pretty damn exciting. The game was revealed during Ubisoft's E3 press conference this afternoon, featuring a thrilling few minutes of murderous gameplay, and confirming a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-3">mess of hints</a> that the game is in development.<br />
<br />
The gameplay demo kicked off with the game's main character being thrown down a murder well, attached to a rock, and presumed dead. Rather than simply giving in, he struggles free, only to fight through a couple dozen more lackeys on his way to hijacking a helicopter. On the way, he sneaks up and shanks a handful of bad dudes, as well as taking cover behind various bullet sponges. Frankly, it looks like <em>fantastic madness</em>. Beyond an amorphous 2012 release date, no other details were provided, unfortunately.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Ubisoft sent over the official press release on <em>Far Cry 3</em>, which outs the game as an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC title. It also details the game's main character, Jason Brody, and his desperate struggle for survival on a desert island gone crazy. <em>FC3</em> is being developed again by Ubisoft Montreal, though this time around the studio will get some extra help from Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Massive. Head past the break for all the official details.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-3-e3-2011/">Far Cry 3 (E3 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-3-e3-2011/#4197540"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/farcry3e32011-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-3-e3-2011/#4197541"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/farcry3e32011-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-3-e3-2011/#4197542"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/farcry3e32011-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-3-e3-2011/#4197543"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/farcry3e32011-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-3-e3-2011/#4197544"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/farcry3e32011-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/far-cry-3-revealed-sneaks-up-and-murders-our-boring-day/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Far Cry 3 revealed, sneaks up and murders our boring day</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/far-cry-3-revealed-sneaks-up-and-murders-our-boring-day/">Far Cry 3 revealed, sneaks up and murders our boring day</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Jun 2011 17:57:00 EST. These tears in our eyes? They're tears of joy, friends. The latest batch of <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sale/ubisoft_week">Ubisoft titles</a> to be savagely cut down on Steam's digital distribution platform includes <em>Far Cry</em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/far-cry-2"><em>Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition</em></a>, available for today only for $2.50 and $5, respectively! Now, let's go blow up the jungle.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/26/ubisoft-steam-sale-tears-75-percent-off-far-cry-games/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ubisoft Steam sale tears 75 percent off Far Cry games</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/26/ubisoft-steam-sale-tears-75-percent-off-far-cry-games/">Ubisoft Steam sale tears 75 percent off Far Cry games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 May 2011 22:30:00 EST. Here's a brain-teaser for you: What do <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shrek-the-third"><em>Shrek the Third</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-2"><em>Far Cry 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em></a> all have in common? If you said "they all feature cartoon donkeys voiced by the stars of the <em>Beverly Hills Cop</em> series," you'd be correct. It's a little known fact that all three games contain flippant burros voiced by Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold and Bronson Pinchot, respectively.<br />
<br />
Oh, also? They're all <a href="http://gamerscoreblog.com/press/archive/2010/04/20/ws952.aspx">coming to the Xbox Live Games on Demand</a> storefront on April 27. The price of each game hasn't been announced -- we've contacted Microsoft to see if we can figure out how much each game will cost. Also, we'll double-check about the donkeys, although we're <em>pretty</em> certain we're right about that one.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/21/shrek-the-third-far-cry-2-and-kane-and-lynch-coming-to-games-on-d/">Shrek the Third, Far Cry 2 and Kane &amp; Lynch coming to Games on Demand</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Apr 2010 17:45:00 EST. The first <em>Far Cry</em> may seem a bit ancient if you've never played it before, but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-2"><em>Far Cry 2</em></a> is still a very viable source for securing your quota of fun. Each are 50 percent off <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/news/3414/">on Steam</a> this weekend -- <em>Far Cry </em>for $5 and <em>Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition</em> for $10. <br />
<br />

<span class="text_article_body">Kevin Shortt, master wordsmith at Ubisoft Montreal, has allegedly confirmed to Official PlayStation Magazine UK (via <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=228138">CVG</a>) that <em>Far Cry 3</em> is in development at the Canadian super-studio. Most of you know that we had no problem heaping copious amounts of praise upon <em>Far Cry 2</em>, one of our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/01/joystiqs-top-10-of-2008-far-cry-2/">Top 10 games of 2008</a>, so a third installment is most certainly welcome in these parts. Sadly, Shortt didn't say whether Ubisoft has decided to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/far-cry-3-probably-sticking-with-african-setting/">go with Africa again</a> for the setting, but offered that what he's seen of the game looks "pretty exciting."<br />
<br />
So ... that's pretty exciting, right?<br />

Over the next five weeks, Direct2Drive is offering a special discount on a host of different titles in celebration of its <a href="http://www.direct2drive.com/d2dturns5">five-year anniversary</a>. Every Monday, Direct2Drive will feature a new set of titles, reducing them to $5 (or &pound;5 UK), with the first week of the promotion focusing on "Ubisoft and Strategy titles." While the upcoming week's titles have yet to be revealed, Direct2Drive has teased us with utterly vague descriptions of what to expect:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Week Two: Action Games</li>
    <li>Week Three: RPGs &amp; MMOs</li>
    <li>Week Four: Indie Games</li>
    <li>Week Five: War Games</li>
</ul>
The first week of the promotion ends on September 14. Games differ slightly based on your geographical region -- for instance, Ubisoft is strangely omitted from the <a href="http://www.direct2drive.co.uk/d2dturns5">European promotion</a>. Check out a full list of this week's games for both regions after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/10/direct2drive-celebrates-5-year-anniversary-with-50-games-for-5/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Direct2Drive celebrates 5-year anniversary with 50 games for $5 each</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/10/direct2drive-celebrates-5-year-anniversary-with-50-games-for-5/">Direct2Drive celebrates 5-year anniversary with 50 games for $5 each</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Sep 2009 14:00:00 EST. Now <em>this</em> is the Xbox Live Deal of the Week that we know and don't love. After a month of decent deals (plus one week of <em>The Force Unleashed </em>marketing), the Deal of the Week has returned to its roots: <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/07/27/deal-of-the-week-far-cry-2-fortunes-pack.aspx">DLC for a game that came out last year</a>. The game in question is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-2"><em>Far Cry 2</em></a>. The DLC in question is the <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/0ccf0001-0000-4000-8000-000055530810?cid=SLink">Fortunes Pack</a>, which includes three weapons, two vehicles and four multiplayer maps. Usually 400<span class="album_title"><img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5), Deal of the Week status knocks it down to only 240</span><span class="album_title"><img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($3). We suppose it might be a good deal if you're still playing <em>Far Cry 2</em>. Then again, if you're still playing <em>Far Cry 2</em>, you probably have the Fortunes Pack already.<br /><br />Thank goodness, we'd almost forgotten the empty, tepid feeling that the Deal of the Week can inspire. Steam's week-long celebration of French gaming industry juggernaut Ubisoft (which kicked off with a <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/19900/">50 percent discount for <em>Far Cry 2</em></a>) is coming to a close, but not before the digital distribution leader performs a <em>coup de gr&acirc;ce</em> on wallet-wary consumers -- this weekend, <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/news/2385/">the service is offering the Ubisoft Classic Pack</a>, which includes <em>Far Cry</em>, <em>IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946</em>, <em>Dark Messiah of Might and Magic</em> and <em>Beyond Good &amp; Evil</em>, for just $10.<br /><br />We highly suggest checking it out -- the four-pack seems to cater to all sorts of gaming interests, whether they be horrendously gaudy hawaiian shirts, World War II-era dogfighting, demonic fantasy combat or <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyond_Good_&amp;_Evil_(video_game)">titles that got <em>royally shafted</em></a> by the game consuming populous during their initial release.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/28/steam-offering-ubisoft-quadruple-pack-for-10/">Steam offering Ubisoft quadruple-pack for $10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 28 Mar 2009 16:15:00 EST. The fine purveyors of DRM-free classics at <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/frontpage/">GoG.com</a> have announced an agreement with Ubisoft, which sees good old(ish) games like <em>Beyond Good &amp; Evil</em> and <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time</em> added to the downloadable lineup. Joining action journalist Jade and the time-swindling prince are ... the aeroplanes of <em>IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946</em>! We guess they weren't really going for much of a theme outside of all three costing $9.99 each.<br /><br />Other Ubisoft titles slated to hit the PC service "in the coming weeks" include <em>Heroes of Might and Magic</em>, <em>Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon</em>, <em>Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six</em> and <em>Not Tom Clancy's</em> <em>Far Cry</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/26/beyond-good-and-evil-pop-sands-of-time-added-to-gogs-lineup/">Beyond Good &amp; Evil, PoP: Sands of Time added to GOG's lineup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Mar 2009 21:25:00 EST. As part of its fiscal earnings report for the quarter ending December 2008, Ubisoft has <a href="http://www.ubisoftgroup.com/index.php?p=59&amp;art_id=60&amp;vars=Y29tX2lkPTYxMSZzZW5kZXI9TVAwMSZzZW5kZXJfdXJsPWluZGV4LnBocCUzRnAlM0QxNjQmZmlsdGVyX3R5cGU9JmZpbHRlcl9tb250aD0mZmlsdGVyX3llYXI9&amp;PHPSESSID=5a5d8c25bf02306285b44d5c8e8b5e7f">revealed the "sell-in sales"</a> (that's to retailers, not consumers) for a handful of key titles. <em>Far Cry 2</em>, launched in late October, shipped 2.9 million, while <em>Raving Rabbids TV Party</em> has tallied up 1.5 million since its mid-November unveiling. <br /><br />Unfortunately, a certain wisecracking acrobat didn't seem to meet expectations. According to the report, the above figures helped to "offset the impact of a slower take-off" for <em>Prince of Persia</em> and its 2.2 million shipped units for December. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/21/npd-mgs4-sells-over-1-million-in-us-tomb-raider-left-undiscove/">Yesterday's NPD stats</a> put <em>PoP's</em> US sales at around 483K. Ubisoft has also confirmed a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/22/assassins-creed-2-coming-march-2010/">fiscal 2009 release window</a> for <em>Assassin's Creed 2</em>, <em>Splinter Cell Conviction </em>and a new <em>Ghost Recon</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/22/ubisoft-prince-of-persia-had-slower-take-off-far-cry-2-nets/">Ubisoft: Prince of Persia had 'slower take-off', Far Cry 2 ships 2.9m</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Jan 2009 13:45:00 EST. <div align="left">Ubisoft has disclosed its sales numbers for <em>Far Cry 2</em> -- in less than three weeks, the game has sold an impressive one million copies all across all platforms worldwide. The FPS has received <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/farcry2?q=far%20cry%202">a fair amount of praise</a> from gamers and the press alike, so this doesn't come as a complete surprise. We are also glad to see a title with developers who have voiced support for the PS3 have such success -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-2"><em>Far Cry 2</em></a>'s technical director Dominic Guay has praised the Blu-ray format and its hard drive as ideal for their game. <div align="left">Thanks in part to its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/far-cry-2s-map-editor-is-flipping-amazing/">much hyped</a> map editor, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-2"><em>Far Cry 2</em></a> has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/11/far-cry-2-sells-a-million-copies-worldwide/">sold one million copies</a> worldwide across all platform since its release a few weeks back. Congrats!<br /></div>

<br />One million copies is nothing to take lightly, seeing that Ubisoft's <em>Far Cry 2</em> has been (for the most part) under the gaming radar thanks to this Fall's blockbuster gaming lineup that is a bit crowded. We raise our glass to Ubisoft in hopes of seeing another <em>Far Cry </em>grace the 360 with even more explosive goodness and maybe an even more advanced map editor. Maybe ...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/11/far-cry-2-becomes-a-million-copy-selling-member/">Far Cry 2 becomes a million copy selling member</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Nov 2008 16:30:00 EST. We've been told that attending a premiere for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/17/theres-a-new-trailer-for-postal/">a Uwe Boll movie</a> is like visiting Disneyland in the middle of a category five hurricane -- it's a disaster, certainly, but it's a <em>fun </em>disaster. That's why we were so dismayed to learn that Boll's latest <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL0WayC7jW0&amp;feature=related">dose of box office poison</a> won't be making its maiden voyage in the States -- but rather, in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/25/uwe-boll-does-something-awful-to-another-critic/">pugilistic director's</a> homeland of Germany.<br /><br />If you're truly dedicated to your pursuit of attending the debut of a Boll-sterpiece, you'd better make your travel arrangements now, as <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2008/09/18/far-cry-movie-premieres-october-2-in-germany/">the film will rear its ugly head October 2</a>. We probably won't be in attendance, so make sure you tell us how it was, and what it was like meeting all those <strike>movie stars</strike> <strike>people who were in the movie</strike> former <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wienerwald_(restaurant)">Wienerwald employees</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/20/far-cry-a-uwe-boll-joint-premiering-in-germany-oct-2/">Far Cry, a Uwe Boll joint, premiering in Germany Oct. 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 20 Sep 2008 13:30:00 EST. <div align="left">Achievement lovers gather 'round, we have some freshly new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/achievements">achievements</a> to share that are solely related to <a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/far-cry-2/achievements/"><em>Far Cry 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.360sync.com/2008/09/16/spiderman-web-of-shadow-achievements"><em>Spider-man: Web of Shadows</em></a>. The <em>Spider-man </em>achievements are yawn inducing and <em>Far Cry 2</em>'s are, well, aren't all that bad. The Mapper achievement and its mention of "validation" makes us raise an eyebrow or two.<br /></div>

It's not every day that a development team -- in this case Ubisoft Montreal -- travels to Kenya for research. The first in a series of developer diaries about the trip, this video covers the events leading up to departure. Even <em>preparing</em> for the trip sounds like it was quite an ordeal. In addition to briefings about what to expect (wild animals, corruption, etc.), each member was given over a dozen shots to prepare them for the possibility of disease. In the video above, <em>Far Cry 2</em> creative director Clint Hocking explains that the player avatar in <em>Far Cry 2</em> does everything. In other words, the player avatar physically performs every action in the game. There is no magic healing when you pass over a med kit. The camera doesn't simply teleport into a car when you enter it. Every action is accompanied by an animation, whether it be fixing a jammed weapon or (sickeningly) fixing a dislocated joint (seriously, it's gross). Speaking of jammed weapons, Hocking notes that all of the game's weapons and vehicles degrade over time. As guns are used they begin to accumulate dirt and rust and eventually they will simply break in a player's hands. Likewise, vehicles will break down, requiring players to hop out and work on the engine before continuing.<br /><br />The only question we have now is whether or not players will have to hunt down an in-game Porta-Potty every few hours.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/29/far-cry-2-trailer-talks-player-immersion/">Far Cry 2 trailer talks player immersion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Aug 2008 14:00:00 EST. <em>Far Cry 2</em>'s Narrative Designer Patrick Redding informs <a href="http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/08/27/third-far-cry-game-confirmed-dev-team-has-commitment-to-the-african-setting/">VG247</a> that Ubisoft Montreal has started work on the next <em>Far Cry</em> game. He tells the site that Africa still has a "huge amount of promise" and there are still things they'd like to do with the setting, but he hedges it all by saying that the team is still in "preliminary stages" of development.<br /><br />Redding expresses that the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-2"><em>Far Cry 2</em></a> engine could be used to make other locales, but that to save time the team will probably build on the sequel's African setting. He wants to stick with the series' exotic settings, but feels that jungle islands aren't as exciting as when the original <em>Far Cry</em> released four years ago.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/far-cry-3-probably-sticking-with-african-setting/">Far Cry 3 probably sticking with African setting</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Aug 2008 14:00:00 EST. Ubisoft has released <span style="font-style: italic;">beaucoup d'images</span> as part of the media overflow we call <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/leipzig-08">Leipzig Games Convention 2008</a>. Below and after the break, check out new galleries of screenshots for <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/raving-rabbids-tv-party">Raving Rabbids TV Party</a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia">Prince of Persia</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/EndWar/">EndWar</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/HAWX/">HAWX</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-2">Far Cry 2</a> </em>and more. It's just like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/ubidays-2008-screenshot-roundup/">Ubidays</a>, only with no <em>Beyond Good &amp; Evil</em> in sight. <em>Oh, mon Dieu!<br /></em><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-leipzig-2008/">Prince of Persia (Leipzig 2008)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-leipzig-2008/#990681"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/pop_s_049_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-leipzig-2008/#990680"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/pop_s_048_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-leipzig-2008/#990679"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/pop_s_032_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-leipzig-2008/#990678"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/pop_s_047_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prince-of-persia-leipzig-2008/#990677"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/pop_s_034_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/gc-2008-ubisoft-screenshot-roundup/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GC 2008: Ubisoft screenshot roundup</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/gc-2008-ubisoft-screenshot-roundup/">GC 2008: Ubisoft screenshot roundup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Aug 2008 18:44:00 EST. After the break (or jump, if you're all about BIG videos) you can view a demo of <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14226061/far-cry-2-/videos/FC2_MapEditor_081808.html"><em>Far Cry 2</em>'s map editor</a> in action with commentary by a seductive narrator (not that we're complaining or anything). And it's a guarantee that you'll be impressed. Seriously, we had no clue <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-2"><em>Far Cry 2</em></a>'s map editor would be so vast, so customizable and so epic in scale. There are over 1000 objects, you can change the weather, the landscape AND even alter the environment's textures. It's hard to admit, but <em>Far Cry 2'</em>s map editor puts <em>Halo 3</em>'s Forge to shame. Hell, there is no comparison. We're flipping impressed with what the <em>Far Cry 2</em> dev team has accomplished. A big round of applause to them.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/far-cry-2s-map-editor-is-flipping-amazing/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Far Cry 2's map editor is flipping amazing</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/far-cry-2s-map-editor-is-flipping-amazing/">Far Cry 2's map editor is flipping amazing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 13:15:00 EST. There's also a <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/farcry2/media.html?sid=6193598&amp;autoplay=6193598">lot of different ways to approach the game</a>: there's a night and day system in place and depending on your actions during the day or night, the game will play out differently. Of course, the time of day will have coinciding strategies that will work to your advantage, whether you want to sneak <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> style or run in with guns blazing. It sounds interesting and we hope to hear more as the game nears completion.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/far-cry-2-video-interview-discusses-day-night-system/">Far Cry 2 video interview discusses day/night system</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jul 2008 18:30:00 EST. <em>Far Cry 2</em> will not have a pre-release demo according to Clint Hocking, the game's creative director. Hocking explains to <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=176368">Eurogamer</a> that given the open-world nature of the game, that even if they put walls around a certain section, there could still potentially be hours worth of game in that space -- defeating the whole point of a demo being a teaser.<br /><br />Hocking went on to say that <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-2">Far Cry 2</a></em>'s features are all locked and now "100 guys" are sitting around picking out the bugs. We should certainly get some hands-on time with the game next week at E3 and we'll report back what we find from our jaunt through the savanna.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/11/dont-be-sad-but-a-far-cry-2-demo-isnt-happening/">Don't be sad, but a Far Cry 2 demo isn't happening</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jul 2008 14:58:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/crytek">Crytek</a> is known for cramming high-end graphics into titles that are just as capable to give your PC a hernia as they are to entertain. However, with the <em>Crysis </em>developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/crytek-turns-back-on-pc-exclusivity-cites-piracy/">now done with PC exclusives</a>, the company has adopted <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/crytek-no-more-pc-exclusives-after-this-one-last-pc-exclusi/">a new strategy</a>, one that apparently includes the PSP. <br /><br />A new job posting on the developer's official website notes that the company is currently seeking a PSP programmer with multiplatform experience to work out of its Budapest office, suggesting that Crytek's next project following the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/crysis-warhead-dropping-exclusively-on-pc-this-fall/">recently announced</a> <em>Crysis Warhead</em> will target Sony's handheld. Of course, nothing is known about the developer's PSP agenda or whether that includes plans to somehow squeeze its CryEngine technology into a more bite-sized format. That leaves us wondering if we'll someday be playing <em>Crysis </em>on the go, or if Crytek has something entirely different up its high-def sleeves.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/crytek-shows-interest-in-psp-development/">Crytek shows interest in PSP development</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jun 2008 09:31:00 EST. Players looking forward to shooting their way through <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/farcry2"><em>Far Cry 2</em></a>'s 50-square kilometers of African wilderness best set aside the better part of a few weeks (at least!) to do so. Varying reports suggest it could take as long as 100 hours (for compass-be-damned wanderers, no doubt) to complete the game's single player campaign alone.<br /><br />Ubisoft Montreal creative workhorse Clint Hocking <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/joystiq-hands-on-far-cry-2/">offered</a> us an apparently inadequate estimate when he guessed that the campaign could be completed in <em>as little as</em> 25 hours, before adding that to see it all "you're looking at a 100-hour play experience." And, speaking to <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=189752">CVG</a>, producer Louis-Pierre Pharand landed his estimate somewhere in the middle, suggesting 50 hours of play time to completion. Regardless of the varying possibilities, it's reasonable to expect that the shooter's single player experience will be <em>long</em>, evidence that not all devs are drinking from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/harrison-elaborates-on-the-future-of-single-player-games/">same fountain as Phil Harrison</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-2/">Far Cry 2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-2/#990637"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/mapeditor_13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-2/#829497"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/ubidays-08-blaze_final_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-2/#990638"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/farcry2_screen19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-2/#829500"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/ubidays-08-fc2_blast_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/far-cry-2/#990639"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/marty_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/30/far-cry-2-single-player-could-last-25-hours-no-50-no-100/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Far Cry 2 single player could last 25 hours! The video shows off lots of nifty aspects of the engine, such as dynamic weather, dynamic light and shadow, day and night cycles, and (beautiful) procedural sky. Oh, and did we mention that it's frickin' <em>gorgeous</em>? Well, it totally is. Lest we forget, the video also shows off the engine's fire propagation. In other words, if you set something on fire, it will, in turn, set other things on fire. In this introductory video, you'll be treated to visual bliss as the dev team showcases <em>Far Cry 2</em>'s Dunia engine, how combat will take place and where the story is headed this time around. Fun fact: the dev team actually took a trip out to Africa to gather some 7GB of pictures and video to aid in developing <em>Fary Cry 2</em>'s look. Fun fact number two: We love producer LP Pharand's accent. We feel kind of dirty giving any sort of attention to the cancerous boil on film directing that is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/uweboll">Uwe Boll</a>, but when the guy is acting this freaking weird we just can't help ourselves. Boll has followed up his offer to<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/06/one-million-signatures-to-end-uwe-bolls-directing-career/"> stop directing if an online petition against him reached 1,000,000 signatures</a> with a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWqCNmfJ1hY">heavily-accented YouTube video</a> that manages to insult Eli Roth, Michael Bay, George Clooney and practically all of Hollywood as "fucking retards" that don't understand that Boll is "the only genius in the whole fucking business."<br /><br />While Tinseltown insults are all well and good, what really interested us was Boll's call for a "pro Boll petition" to counteract the anti-Boll forces. Boll said he "expect[s] a million votes, Pro Boll," and he's already well on his way, with a whopping 72 signatures so far on the <a href="http://www.petitiononline.com/ub221965/petition.html">Pro-Boll petition</a> set up by <a href="http://filmdrunk.com/post.phtml?pk=1505">FilmDrunk.com</a>. That's a far cry from the <a href="http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?RRH53888">137,644 that have signed the anti-Boll petition</a> as of this writing, but maybe it takes "the only genius in the whole fucking business" to understand the vagaries of the math involved.<br /><br />Watch the video and read a transcript of Boll's rant after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/one-million-signatures-to-keep-uwe-boll-directing/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>One million signatures to keep Uwe Boll directing</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/one-million-signatures-to-keep-uwe-boll-directing/">One million signatures to keep Uwe Boll directing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Apr 2008 16:00:00 EST. Valve announced today that Ubisoft will be using the company's Steam digital distribution service and plans to add over 40 other titles from its repertoire soon. Games <a href="http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?publisher=ubisoft&amp;cc=US">currently available</a> are jungle shooter <em>Far Cry</em> ($9) and sneaky-sneak stealth game <em>Splinter Cell</em> ($18); meanwhile, <em>Assassin's Creed</em> can be pre-purchased for $50 before its April 9 launch, which will include four bonus missions unique to the PC release.<br /><br />In the coming weeks Ubisoft will add many more games from the Tom Clancy and <em>Heroes of Might &amp; Magic</em> series. Valve says that the Ubisoft line-up on Steam will be the largest of any publisher using the service.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/01/steam-adding-assassins-creed-over-40-other-titles-from-ubisoft/">Steam adding Assassin's Creed, over 40 other titles from Ubisoft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Apr 2008 19:00:00 EST. Previously, Ubisoft gave us a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/03/far-cry-2-announced-for-360/">general release</a> window from April '08 to March '09, so it's comforting to know that we'll see the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/21/gdc08-far-cry-2-tech-demo/">visually impressive</a> <em>Far Cry 2</em> before year's end. Ubi also told Eurogamer that they have plans to release a demo, but specifics regarding it have yet to be released.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/far-cry-2-release-date-narrowed-down-to-fall-08/">Far Cry 2 release date narrowed down to Fall 08'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 15:15:00 EST. With any <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/15/no-more-big-budget-bombs-for-boll/">luck</a>, we won't be writing too many more posts announcing trailers for Uwe Boll's game-to-movie crapfests but, until that time comes, we feel it's our <span style="font-style: italic;">duty</span> to bring this excrement to your attention (if only to be summarily panned in the comments). Here you are, cin&eacute;astes: <span style="font-style: italic;">Far Cry, An Uwe Boll Joint</span>. Now look what you've done Ubisoft. Just when we were ready to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/far-cry-2">excited about this franchise</a> again, you've licensed the property to the one man capable of making the name enough to turn our stomachs. Find out for yourself after the break.<br /><br />[Thanks, EternityInBlack]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/far-cry-movie-trailer-is-predictably-terrible/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Far Cry movie trailer is predictably terrible</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/far-cry-movie-trailer-is-predictably-terrible/">Far Cry movie trailer is predictably terrible</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Feb 2008 20:29:00 EST.
