Yes, video games, of course. The IndieCade Red Carpet Awards Ceremony honors noteworthy achievements in the field of indie gaming over the course of the previous year - past winners include Fez and Limbo, for example. This year's ceremony takes place on October 4, kicks off the 2012 IndieCade Conference and Festival proper, and will of course be hosted by Felicia Day.

Best known for creating The Guild and co-starring in Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Day is just about as endeared to the global gaming/nerd community as a person can get. She was even on an episode of House once.
Continue reading Felicia Day to host the 2012 IndieCade Red Carpet Awards Ceremony

Felicia Day to host the 2012 IndieCade Red Carpet Awards Ceremony originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 19 Apr 2012 17:30:00 EST. No, not buy something for her, but purchase Felicia Day herself. And no, not in any illegal or gross sense of the word -- Dragon Age: Redemption, the six-part webseries available on Machinima's YouTube channel since October, is coming out in DVD form on February 14, complete with behind-the-scenes extras, a commentary track and blooper reel.

Dragon Age: Redemption parallels the story in Dragon Age 2's digital add-on, Mark of the Assassin, which features Day as an elf who assassinates things. Or, as Flatiron Film Company describes both forms of media, Felicia Day cosplaying!
Continue reading Dragon Age: Redemption hits DVD on Felicia Day; er, Valentine's Day

Dragon Age: Redemption hits DVD on Felicia Day; er, Valentine's Day originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 06 Feb 2012 19:00:00 EST.
If you can't bear to watch LARP-ing unless it's wrapped in professional production and synergistic, transmedia-compatible fiction, you'll want to tune in to Dragon Age: Redemption, a six-episode web series starting on October 11. Actually, ignore the "tune in" anachronism: Redemption will debut exclusively on Machinima's Youtube channel.

The show has an interactive companion in Dragon Age 2: Mark of the Assassin, a new downloadable expansion that also launches on October 11. Both stories are propelled by the star power of Felicia Day, who plays a sarcastic elf assassin. It must be a tough life, always being on the verge of assassinating yourself.
Continue reading Dragon Age: Redemption series debuts on Machinima next week

Dragon Age: Redemption series debuts on Machinima next week originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 05 Oct 2011 11:00:00 EST. Felicia Day likes Dragon Age 2 so much she almost got me killed.

In Dragon Age 2, I mean.

Last week I hung out with the actress as she showed me Dragon Age 2's new DLC, Mark of the Assassin, starring ... well, her. The Felicia Day-fronted live-action web series based in the Dragon Age 2 universe has been delayed until October. Fortunately, it'll be paired with a companion piece that'll be infinitely more playable. BioWare recently announced a DLC pack for the Kirkwallian RPG titled "Mark of the Assassin," which sees you teaming up with Day's "Tallis" character from Dragon Age: Redemption, and diving through a trap-riddled dungeon in search of a precious gem.

The expansion will be available on October 11 for an undisclosed price. Really, though, how much is too much to ask for being able to hang out with Felicia Day without waiting in a week-long line at Comic-Con?
Dragon Age Redemption is bringing big-screen talent to an online miniseries, including Independence Day producer Peter Winther as director, Lost's John Bartley as executive producer and Hellboy's Doug Jones acting alongside Felicia Day (who, to this crowd, needs no introduction). At the Redemption Comic-Con panel, Day revealed that each episode will run six to 10 minutes, or an hour in total. Day, who wrote the script, said she modeled Redemption after The Guild, where each episode has a beginning, middle and end.

Redemption was also confirmed as canonical within the Dragon Age universe. The series doesn't have an official host site or release date yet, although Day did say, "It should be out early this fall. Don't tweet that." Luckily for us, this isn't Twitter.
Dragon Age Redemption teases a tentative release date and details originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 23 Jul 2011 03:00:00 EST. Felicia Day appeared on yesterday's episode of "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" to promote Dragon Age: Redemption, a six-episode web series in which she plays Tallis, a sarcastic elf assassin. Uh, that is to say, she's a sarcastic elf and an assassin -- otherwise she'd have to stab herself immediately.

Day reveals that there's no danger of that happening by accident, as she spent several months training with daggers before filming. The enthusiastic star didn't share much in the way of plot or how it connects with Dragon Age 2, but the first trailer (embedded after break) reveals that it won't be all dialogue trees. Based on the brief bit of footage, we can deduce that Tallis' main activities include sprinting through forests, ducking beneath axes and smoldering directly into the camera.
Continue reading Dragon Age: Redemption web series starting in summer

Dragon Age: Redemption web series starting in summer originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 17 Feb 2011 07:00:00 EST. Set to debut later this year, the "Dragon Age: Redemption" plot follows Tallis, an elvish assassin in search of a rogue mage -- presumably one that's run afoul of Ferelden's controlling religious group, the Chantry.

"Tallis is headstrong, she fights dirty, and she has a really sarcastic sense of humor," Day says of her character. "I wanted to bring a modern sensibility to a fantasy character in a fantasy world." According to USA Today, the premeditated LARP-ing was filmed near Los Angeles in January, with Peter Winther (co-producer on Godzilla and The Patriot) as director and John Bartley, who worked on Wrong Turn and Lost, as cinematographer.

The show is also co-produced by Felicia Day, who says that her appreciation of gaming and of the Dragon Age franchise has empowered her efforts. "I put every single effort into making this something that gamers will be proud of. Even though we were constrained a lot as a Web series, none of the people who were involved took that as a constraint. They took that as a challenge."

Dragon Age isn't the only game to receive a promotional web series in recent memory -- the excellent "Bright Falls" series led into 2010's Alan Wake, and the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot will be accompanied by a series of high-profile character vignettes later this year.
Felicia Day to star in 'Dragon Age: Redemption' web series originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 15 Feb 2011 08:25:00 EST. Narrators. Narrators never change. Yes, of course Ron Perlman will be featured in Fallout: New Vegas, but you might be interested in hearing about the cadre of other famous folks lending their voices to the forthcoming Obsidian-developed RPG. Wayne Newton will play radio DJ "Mr. New Vegas," while Matthew Perry will voice "Benny, the head of the Geckos family." Felicia Day is handling the voice of "Veronica, a sarcastic Brotherhood of Steel scribe."

In addition, From Dusk 'Til Dawn favorite Danny Trejo will give his gravitas to "a third playable companion," hilariously named "Raul the Ghoul." Kris Kristofferson, Michael Dorn, William Sadler, John Doman, and Rene Auberjonois make up the rest of the star-studded list. We're not quite sure which one is the biggest celebrity -- and thus can't predict which character will disappear after the first ten minutes. It was so much easier when we were dealing with Liam Neeson and Patrick Stewart!
Wayne Newton, Felicia Day lending voices to Fallout: New Vegas originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Aug 2010 10:20:00 EST. Felicia Day was one of the biggest gamer stars at this year's Comic-Con -- she premiered the trailer for her Syfy movie Red, sat on a panel about "Girls Gone Geek" and made two announcements to the packed room during The Guild panel on Saturday afternoon: First, the gang has put together its second music video, dubbed "Game On" (which you can watch online or on Xbox Live); and second, Microsoft (which posts The Guild videos in HD on Xbox Live every Tuesday) will be releasing Guild-related Avatar skins this fall, so you can dress up your Xbox Live Avatar as your favorite Guild member.

In between her busy schedule of panels and signings, I caught up with Day to chat about what she's been playing, the new music video and about whether or not The Guild webseries, currently in its fourth season, has outgrown its gamer roots. Find our conversation posted after the break.
This past Saturday brought us the Spike TV Video Game Awards and - before experiencing the litany of world exclusives that awaited us inside - we spent some time outside cruising the red carpet and talking (briefly!) to many of the game developers and talent. We squeezed them for information as fast as we could while simultaneously wishing them holiday cheer and good tidings. Yes, it was as awkward as it sounds. Here's what we learned from Felicia Day about, well ... Felicia Day.

How's the show going?

We just, a couple of weeks ago, the last episode of Season Three came out so we're between seasons right now. We're waiting for an update from Microsoft ... or Xbox. And I'm writing a comic book for Dark Horse before we start Season Four. Jim Rugg is the artist, but we have some amazing cover artists ... I can't say who yet, but when I get the art back I'm just blown away.

We talked with Blizzard about the 5 & 15 year anniversaries for Warcraft, and we asked them why there are no girls in the "What's Your Game" commercials and they asked us for suggestions. Why haven't you done one?

I know! You know, that would be a good call for me ... I'm one of those people who are recognized in certain circles, and not in others, and I like to keep it that way. But it would be great, I mean ... I'm a WoW girl, I love it!

So you think you could see yourself in one of those wacky commercials?

I would hope that they wouldn't be able to put my head on their character, like with the Mr. T one. Because that would just be too creepy. It already was creepy! I was trying to do like my "Thanksgiving" quest and I'm all "Stop with the Mr. T!" They were all over the place!

Are you working on anything now?

I'm filming the last episode of Dollhouse. The way that they wrap everything up is amazing, they really did it. I think I still have some apocalyptic dirt on my neck still. Also, I'm on an episode of Lie to Me ... I've been working for Fox a lot and I don't know why!

Are you playing anything else besides WoW right now?

Well, I play everything ... except I haven't played Uncharted 2 yet. I don't have a PS3. You know ... those are tax-deductible. Maybe I need to pick one up.
VGA 2009: Felicia Day on Felicia Day originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 17 Dec 2009 01:30:00 EST. Men wore suits and fedoras and had three-martini lunches, and women wore dresses and enough underwear to construct an entire parachute. Don Draper has replaced James Bond as the cool man every guy wants to be ... and he's a freaking ad executive. Highly recommended.

World's Greatest Dad (840 HD, 560 SD to rent)
This movie ran the festival circuit and had a lot of good buzz, which is rare for a Robin Williams movie these days. I missed this when I was at Sundance, but enough of my movie-going critic friends loved it that I feel comfortable recommending it. It's a black comedy starring Williams, is directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, and had a small theatrical opening on August 21. Now you can already watch it on Xbox Live. Not too shabby. Maybe we're not too far away from theater and at-home release dates being the same day all the time.

Read for the full list on a system-by-system basis just after the break. As usual, we'll see you at the popcorn st ... well, actually we won't see you at all. But you catch our drift. Plus, be sure to tell us what you'll be watching, or what you've seen recently that bowled you over.

The first season of the Xbox Live game show sensation that's sweeping the nation is drawing to a close -- if you've yet to check out 1 vs. 100, Microsoft is pulling out all the stops during its last week on the air (August 22 - 29) to try and suck you in. Among the attractions is a free chance for Silver subscribers to try the game out during its last weekend run, and guest appearances by Shadow Complex creative director Donald Mustard, GamerchiX, Major Nelson and internet nerd darling Felicia Day.

Microsoft also released a number of statistics regarding the game's success -- more than 2.5 million people across the globe have downloaded 1 vs. 100, and more than one million Microsoft Points have been handed out to the game's participants. None went to us, though. We tend to crack under interrogative pressure.
1 vs. 100 statistics, upcoming events detailed originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 17 Aug 2009 15:30:00 EST. As if there was any doubt, the Hollywood Reporter writes that Felicia Day's hit online sitcom, The Guild, has been renewed for a third season, courtesy of Microsoft. The third season will contain twelve episodes and will begin in "late summer," with a sneak peek available at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. As part of the agreement with Microsoft, episodes will once again be made available on Xbox Live and Microsoft's online video portal.

Felicia Day is currently in the process of writing the episodes, with plans to begin production in June. With regards to the plot, cards are being kept very close to Day's chest, though she has said that "the cliffhanger in Season 2 is pretty dramatic, and the repercussions of that will be felt by the guild [in season 3]. Expect a lot of real-life distractions for the characters and some hurt feelings from the last season."

We'll be there with bells on. In the meantime, The Guild fans can pre-order the season 2 DVD at Amazon in preparation for its May 19 release.

[Via @Feliciaday]
The Guild renewed for third season, beginning late summer originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 05 May 2009 02:00:00 EST. This Monday, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" begins and Conan O'Brien ascends the ranks of late nightdom into the much-vaunted "Tonight Show" position. Why is this exciting news for you, you ask? Because Fallon loves Felicia Day! Wait, no, that's not it. It's because Fallon, like Engadget's Josh Topolsky, is a big fan of comically oversized iPhones. Wait, that's not it either.

No friends, it's because, speaking with Canada.com, Fallon said, "We're going to treat a video game premiere as if it was a movie premiere. My generation grew up with the computer. We grew up with the Internet. We live in a video game type of world - video games are second nature to us. Games make more money, as an industry, than the film industry." He's certainly got a point. We'll be on the lookout for Mr. Fallon's promises on March 2nd, when his show premieres. And ya know, Jimmy, if you're ever looking for experts in the gaming field ... your friends at the 'Stiq are always available.
Fallon promises game premieres 'movie premiere' status originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 27 Feb 2009 20:20:00 EST.
During PAX 2008 we had a chance to sit down (on very comfortable bean bags, mind you) and talk with Felicia Day, producer and star of The Guild and star of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Day also sang "Still Alive" with Jonathan Coulton the first night of the convention. Some notes from the interview:

Filming for Season 2 will begin next month. HD cameras will be used, not so much for web streaming but for potential download and the Season 2 DVD. The 13- to 15-episode season will be "a little bit longer," approximately 5 to 6 minutes apiece.

Day has a level 66 Warlock and level 63 Priest. As an example of life imitating art, Day explains that her fans from the show and the actors who play Zaboo, Vork and Bladezz all play in a guild together.

She signed the chest of one Dr. Horrible cosplayer and saw another with "actual Wonderflonium." (Warning: Interview contains spoilers.)

Day guest stars as the patient in episode 2 of the upcoming season of House, but she does not have Lupus.

Not mentioned: Her demand that Tycho groom her.
