Further integrating your All-4-One MP3s, Song Summoner will boost the "groove level" of your Tune Troopers every time you listen to the songs that birthed the units. Now you actually have an excuse for listening to "<a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=SnYESenjoGY">I Swear</a>" several dozen times a day!<br /><br />So, why are we talking about this iPod game on DS Fanboy? We thought it would be interesting to compare this new title against the other portable strategy RPG Square Enix recently released (in the U.S.), <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ffta2">Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</a></em>.<br /><br />As we're sure you'll let us know, there are some features that <em>Song Summoner</em> can't compete with, such as <em>FFTA2's</em> 400+ quests and other multitudinous offerings, but, for the purpose of outlining what publishers can learn from a game release such as this, let's look at the five points in which the iPod title outshines the DS epic.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/08/ipods-new-square-enix-srpg-better-than-ffta2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>iPod's new Square Enix SRPG better than FFTA2?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/08/ipods-new-square-enix-srpg-better-than-ffta2/">iPod's new Square Enix SRPG better than FFTA2?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Jul 2008 00:00:00 EST. If you have a taste for strategy gaming at all and are looking for a way to spend the entire summer, then Square Enix's latest, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/2008s-biggest-blips-final-fantasy-tactics-a2/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</span></a> is not only a game with a very long title, but it might just be the answer to all your handheld gaming needs.<br /><br />But length and depth aren't the only measure of a game. For some the latest <span style="font-style: italic;">Tactics</span> may be a great way to while away the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/20/train-for-next-weeks-release-with-ffta2-screens/">month(s)</a>, but others will find the paper-thin story and the hand-holding approach a turn-off. In a field of excellent Square Enix titles, <span style="font-style: italic;">Grimoire of the Rift</span> isn't exactly a stand-out, but mediocre Square Enix still tends to be <span style="font-style: italic;">pretty good</span> in the long run.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/ds-fanboy-review-final-fantasy-tactics-a2-grimoire-of-the-rift/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DS Fanboy Review: Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/ds-fanboy-review-final-fantasy-tactics-a2-grimoire-of-the-rift/">DS Fanboy Review: Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Jul 2008 10:15:00 EST. <br />Did you forget that <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ffta2">Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</a> ships in North America this week? We wouldn't be surprised if you did, as, aside from two magazine advertisements, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/square-enix">Square Enix</a> hasn't done much to promote the SRPG sequel.<br /><br />In fact, unless we've missed something, the only two handheld game commercials Square Enix has aired in the U.S. since the GBA were for the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=final+fantasy+3&amp;searchsubmit=">Final Fantasy III</a></em> remake and <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dqmj">Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker</a> -- <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mariohoops">Mario Hoops 3-on-3</a> doesn't count. That's a shame considering how creative the original <span style="font-style: italic;">Final Fantasy Tactics Advance</span> commercial was!<br /><br />Bring your mages, ninjas, and gunners past the break for the GBA clip and the two <span style="font-style: italic;">FFTA2</span> magazine pieces we mentioned above!<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/22/promotional-consideration-tactical-advertisements/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Promotional Consideration: Tactical advertisements</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/22/promotional-consideration-tactical-advertisements/">Promotional Consideration: Tactical advertisements</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 22 Jun 2008 20:00:00 EST. We've seen so much of <em>Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</em>, from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/snippets-of-ffta2-gameplay-show-some-tactics/">videos</a> to screens, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/13/friday-video-professions-of-the-rift/">previews of jobs</a> to boot, and none of that is even a <em>patch</em> on the hours of gameplay that awaits. For once, we're not even upset about the Square Enix "tax" that elevates the price of their games; here, we'll know where those extra dollars went. Sometime next year, we might have finally finished everything there is to finish.<br /><br />Maybe.<br /><br />If we're <em>lucky</em>.<br /><br />
<br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/20/train-for-next-weeks-release-with-ffta2-screens/">Train for next week's release with FFTA2 screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Jun 2008 10:15:00 EST. Between now and June 17th, he'll be answering as many of your <em>Etrian</em>-related queries as he can <a href="http://www.intothelabyrinth.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=139">here</a>. Maragos is accepting questions about either of the two DS games, perhaps to accommodate for PAL region players, who only just received the first game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/european-dates-for-etrian-odyssey-lol-pokemon-explorers/">last Friday</a>. Ask him why Europe had to wait so long, if you like. Go on, do it.<br /><br />Next in line is the <em>entire development team</em> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/snippets-of-ffta2-gameplay-show-some-tactics/"><em>Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</em></a>, who are clearly pretty confident that they'll be receiving an absolute avalanche of questions, as they're doing this as a group. You'll have to be a signed-up Square Enix member, though, which will mean having to fill in <a href="http://member.square-enix.com/na/login/login.php?r=/na/features/ffta2/01/index.php">this form</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.intothelabyrinth.net/updates/EkEFpVFFyuwUgVpFFH.php">Ask Atlus</a>!<br /><a href="http://member.square-enix.com/na/blog/2008/06/send-messages-to-ffta2-develop.php">Ask Square Enix</a>!<br /><br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=45737">Go Nintendo</a> and <a href="http://ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=309962">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/etrian-odyssey-ffta2-developers-want-to-speak-with-you/">Etrian Odyssey, FFTA2 developers want to speak with you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Jun 2008 10:15:00 EST. <br />While we're waiting for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ffta2/"><em>Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</em></a> to release (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/summer-strategy-ffta2-due-june-24th/">very</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/19/ff-tactics-advances-on-europe-this-june/">soon</a>), we're pretty much powerless to do much but look at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ff-tactics-a2/">screens</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/official-ffta2-website-advances/">websites</a>. Now, though, we can at least immerse ourselves in some videos of the upcoming game. Unfortunately, most of them are only short (and tiny) clips teasing the battle system, but it's still nice to get a sense of what the gameplay will entail.<br /><br />Above, the video delves into a part of the story, although put out of context it's not very telling. After the break, you can watch a few forty-second battle clips, showing three different characters using their attacks, skills, or summons. <br /><br />

That doesn't make the wait any easier, though, so we're glad Square Enix recently updated the official North American website with <em>actual stuff</em> to keep us busy.<br /> <br /> Assuming you can make it past the site's <em>annoyingly slow</em> load time, you might enjoy some of the things it has to offer. So far, multimedia and information on the battle system is listed as "coming soon," but there's still plenty to keep you occupied. Mainly, you can look at a few character profiles, and also some of the different races and classes that will be available in the game. <br /><br />We can already see our summer evaporating right in front of our very eyes.<br /><br />

But, in all seriousness, isn't it? When looking back at the game and its coverage in Japan, we've all pretty much seen the boxart. Once it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-gets-confirmed-for-north-america/">confirmed for release in North America</a> (and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/summer-strategy-ffta2-due-june-24th/">dated</a>), we were fairly certain that the U.S. boxart would just be some rearrangement of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/ffta2_cs_0411.jpg">the Japanese logo</a> for the game. And, here we are.<br /><br />That's not to say we're any less excited about the whole thing, however. We're still dying to get our play on, one turn at a time.<br /><br />
<br />

The next few months will be filled with a lot a great releases -- perhaps <span style="font-style: italic;">too</span> many. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-dodgeball-braw.../">Super Dodgeball Brawlers</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bangai-o-spirits/">Bangai-O Spirits</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ffta2/">Final Fantasy Tactics A2</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/etrian-odyssey-2/">Etrian Odyssey II</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/space-invaders-extreme/">Space Invaders Extreme</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/arkanoid/">Arkanoid DS</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rondo-of-swords/">Rondo of Swords</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jake-hunter/">Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/island-of-happiness/">Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness</a></em>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/world-ends-with-you/"><em>The World Ends With You</em></a> are just a few that we can name on the spot, and all of these will be out <em>before July starts</em>. <br />
<br />
Unless you have abundant amounts of currency, though, you probably can't afford to buy that many games in such a short period of time. Also, money isn't the only problem. Supposing that you <em>could</em> afford everything you wanted, you wouldn't even have the time to play them all.<br />
<br />
Narrowing down the field is tough, but necessary. What games that are coming out in the next three months do you consider must gets? And they don't have to be chosen from the games listed above, so go nuts.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/ds-daily-tough-choices/">DS Daily: Tough choices</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Apr 2008 09:00:00 EST. Two crushing disappointments awaited us in the latest Square Enix press release. The first, admittedly, was entirely due to our misreading of the subject line and consequent imagining of the many, many flavors Final Fantasy Tictacs could contain. Just think: You'd have the sour Squall-flavored ones, the spicy Red XIIIs, a couple of Cloud candies (indiscernible from Sephiroth flavor) , the Tidus fruit droplets and ... well, now you see why were <em>so</em> disappointed.<br /><br />Similarly, we didn't quite appreciate the North American release date for Final Fantasy <em>Tactics</em> A2: Grimoire of the Rift. You'll only be able to stick the third part of the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/13/square-enix-establishes-ivalice-alliance/">Ivalice Alliance</a>" into your DS on June 24th, which is quite a long way off if you're a Final Fan of strategic RPG-ery. Square Enix promises it'll be worth the wait though, as the grimoire comes packed with 400 quests, "polished game mechanics," stylus controls and new jobs and classes.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-ds/">Final Fantasy Tactics A2 (DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-ds/#709133"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-031908-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-ds/#709526"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/ffta2_battle-031908_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-ds/#709136"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-031908-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-ds/#709527"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/ffta2_dual-031908_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-ds/#709134"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-031908-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-not-released-b4-june-24/">Final Fantasy Tactics A2 not released B4 June 24</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Mar 2008 20:00:00 EST. <br />Finally! We were beginning to think that Square-Enix would <em>never</em> announce its stateside release date for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ffta2"><em>Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</em></a>, keeping localized copies of the SRPG out of our reach to punish us for poor <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/front-mission">Front Mission</a></em> sales. Surprisingly, <em>FFTA2</em> will hit stores as soon as June 24th, usually a slow period for video game releases.<br /><br />The North American version has been enhanced to improve its touchscreen controls, one of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/ffta2-preparing-ourselves-for-disappointment/">several complaints</a> we've listed about the game. Players should be able to now command their characters and navigate <em>FFTA2's</em> menus using only the stylus, as should be the standard for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/srpg">SRPGs</a> on the DS. This comes in addition to the sequel's new classes, jobs, and clan system. Hit the gallery below for four new screenshots from the English-translated game.<br /><br />
<br /><strong>See also:</strong> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-gets-confirmed-for-north-america/">Final Fantasy Tactics A2 gets confirmed for North America</a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/2008s-biggest-blips-final-fantasy-tactics-a2/"></a><br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/19/summer-strategy-ffta2-due-june-24th/">Summer strategy: FFTA2 due June 24th</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Mar 2008 15:00:00 EST. Well, what do you know. We were only <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/square-enix-aiming-for-simultaneous-game-releases/">just writing about</a> Square Enix localizations, and now the news has spread that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/2008s-biggest-blips-final-fantasy-tactics-a2/"><em>Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</em></a> is headed to North America. According to <em>Game Informer</em>, the projected release date isn't too far off, and the strategy game will be coming to American shores this summer.<br /><br />We knew this game would get here eventually, but we can relax now that we <em>really</em> know. In case you thought you might actually get outdoors and be active this summer, though, this announcement might have just caused a rift in your plans. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=37561">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-gets-confirmed-for-north-america/">Final Fantasy Tactics A2 gets confirmed for North America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Mar 2008 19:00:00 EST. For cell phones. <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/k_tai/news/1213231_1350.html"><em>Crystal Guardians W1</em></a> is the first in an episodic series of mobile <em>FFTA2</em>-related games released for Japanese i-mode phones. In what we think is an inspired choice of genre, <em>Crystal Guardians</em> is a tower defense game that features all of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/2008s-biggest-blips-final-fantasy-tactics-a2/">jobs</a> in <em>Tactics A2.</em> Except instead of a tower, your team defends a crystal against monsters. Because, you know, <em>Final Fantasy.<br /><br /></em>This announcement puts an end to the speculation about the "Crystal Guardians" trademark registered last week. DS fans would probably say that an inaccessible cell phone game is the <em>worst</em> possible result. But at least it's not a CG movie.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-cast-already-appearing-in-another-game/">Final Fantasy Tactics A2 cast already appearing in another game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jan 2008 17:00:00 EST. <br /><strong>Developer:</strong> Square Enix<br /><strong>Publisher:</strong> Square Enix<br /><strong>Release:</strong> TBA<br /><br />What separates <em>Final Fantasy Tactics Advance</em> from most other handheld SRPGS? Its level of polish. As with the original <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> game for the PlayStation, Square Enix put its talents and resources behind <em>FFTA's</em> soundtrack, character designs, and solid mechanics. Even today, five years later, the GBA title's presentation outclasses releases like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hoshigamiremix">Hoshigami Remix</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/luminousarc">Luminous Arc</a></em>. <br /><br /><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ffta2">Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</a></em> continues that high-budget, high-quality tradition. While Square Enix hasn't yet announced a US release date, and we're disappointed about the the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/ffta2-preparing-ourselves-for-disappointment/">lack of both online and offline multiplayer features</a>, we're excited about all the sequel's additions -- 400 missions, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/revenantwings"><em>Revenant Wings</em>-esque</a> item synthesis, a reworked law system, bigger enemies, an expanded map with distributed "area maps," and a ton of new job classes.<br /><br /><em>FFTA2</em> now boasts over 45+ different professions, ranging from Chocobo Knights (Chocobo-riding Moogles) to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/10/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-to-feature-bastards/">Bastards</a> (a surly lot). Just as interesting as the vocations included are the ones that were cut from the final release due to time constraints or continuity issues. We came across their design documents while sifting through Square Enix's dumpster for discarded <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/16/mini-ffiv-figures-are-super-teeny-super-cute/">figurines</a>, and we've posted the never-seen-before job classes right here for you!<br /><br /><strong>Chimney Sweep</strong><br />

<br />Translating <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ffta2">Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</a></em> just became serious business, as the GBAtemp community has actually built an application around the project to streamline its script-editing process. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/ffta2-fan-translation-project-underway/">this sort of dedication</a> and this new specialized editor, it won't be long before the team releases an English translation patch for, uh, people with pirated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rom">ROMs</a>.<br /><br />Though an official <em>FFTA2</em> localization seems certain, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/square-enix">Square Enix</a> has yet to announce any plans to bring the SRPG stateside. Why not settle for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/front-mission">Front Mission DS</a></em> in the meantime?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/fans-equip-ffta2-editor-for-translation-project/">Fans equip FFTA2 editor for translation project</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Nov 2007 14:00:00 EST. "Nintendo ... Nintendo ... <span style="font-style: italic;">another </span>Nintendo." In North America., <span style="font-style: italic;">all five</span> of the top five DS games sold this week are first-party; only one in the UK comes from another publisher. If we had an impish sense of humor (check) and access to near-unlimited funds (dang) we'd go buy 50,000 copies or so of something like <span style="font-style: italic;">Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations</span> just to mess with the charts. As it stands, in NA and the UK, the big winners are both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/29/ds-fanboy-review-brain-age-2/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Brain Ages</span></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/croal-and-totilo-goe-toe-to-toe-about-zelda/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Phantom Hourglass</span></a>. And, we suppose, the people who <span style="font-style: italic;">bought those</span> and can feel like they're on the victorious team.<br /><br />In Japan, a detective game from Tecmo sits at the top spot, followed by <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/live-a-lie-with-horis-ffta2-accessory-set/">Final Fantasy Tactics A2</a>.</span> This report conflicts with the report <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/ffta2-maneuvers-to-the-top-of-the-japanese-charts/">yesterday</a> that had <span style="font-style: italic;">FFTA2</span> at the top-- maybe <span style="font-style: italic;">DS Nishimura Kyotaro Suspense </span>sells better on Amazon (from whence the results for this study are tallied) than other retailers. Check after the break for the full top-five lists!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/03/game-sales-by-region-who-printed-which-demonimation-of-money/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Game sales by region: who printed which demonimation of money?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/03/game-sales-by-region-who-printed-which-demonimation-of-money/">Game sales by region: who printed which demonimation of money?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 Nov 2007 13:00:00 EST. The title took the top spot this week among Japanese games, with nearly as many sales as the original <em>Tactics Advance</em> in the first week, despite a bevy of games on the shelves. FFTA2 moved 142,000 copies, nearly twice as many as the number two title, <em>Ar Tonelico II</em> for the PS2.<br /><br />Will you be picking up <em>FFTA2</em> when it heads to your local retailer? Or are you firmly in the other fanbase and refusing to cross over? Of course, if you're a rabid fan, you might not have to wait long, even if you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/ffta2-fan-translation-project-underway/#comments">can't read Japanese</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/ffta2-maneuvers-to-the-top-of-the-japanese-charts/">FFTA2 maneuvers to the top of the Japanese charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Nov 2007 14:00:00 EST. <br />Though <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ffta2">Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift</a></em> doesn't officially hit Japanese stores until tomorrow, forumers at the GBAtemp community have already managed to procure a copy and are working on translating its squiggly words. The motivated group has deciphered an impressive amount of cutscene conversations and menu items, overlaying shots from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/SRPG/">SRPG</a> with English text.<br /> <br />Even in its early state, this picture guide will be a huge boon to interested importers without any Japanese reading skills. Considering that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/squareenix">Square Enix</a> has yet to announce its plans for bringing <em>Final Fantasy Tactics A2</em> to the states, this fan-backed effort may be the best way to play the game for a while.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/ffta2-fan-translation-project-underway/">FFTA2 fan translation project underway</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Oct 2007 18:40:00 EST. Both tribes also have a Bastard class which we assume to comprise of one of the following:
<ol>
    <li>Children born out of wedlock </li>
    <li>Jerks of the highest degree </li>
    <li>Warriors who wield oversized medieval swords </li>
</ol>
You can check out some concept art for the Seeq and Gria past the post break, where we always hide the goodies. It has yet to be confirmed whether or not the two tribes, similar to Wu-Tang Clansman Ol' Dirty Bastard (R.I.P.), <em>like it raw</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/10/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-to-feature-bastards/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Final Fantasy Tactics A2 to feature bastards</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/10/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-to-feature-bastards/">Final Fantasy Tactics A2 to feature bastards</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Sep 2007 19:00:00 EST. A NeoGAFfer called king zell was apparently trying to level up his "Scan Posting" skill, because he created a thread packed densely with all kinds of new images of DS role playing games. There are multiple <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/17/more-comparisons-between-ffiv-3d-and-the-original-game/">Final</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/01/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-hits-japan-on-oct-25/">Fantasies</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/30/tales-site-offers-up-some-assets/">Tales of Innocence</a>,</em> <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/13/archaic-rounded-up-heat/">Archaic Sealed Heat</a>, </em>and even an extended preview of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/keep-criminals-at-bay-with-summon-night-twin-age/"><em>Summon Night: Twin Age</em></a>, which we haven't heard from in quite some time.<br /><br />Be sure to pace yourself and enjoy every thumbnail-sized halftone screenshot, because this is a lot of RPG news to take in at once. There's bound to be something here for you, unless you hate RPGs, at which point you should stop clicking all those image links. We've mirrored the scans after the break, just in case the originals get stricken with a status ailment.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/20/jrpg-scan-splosion-from-v-jump-magazine/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>JRPG scan-splosion from V-Jump magazine</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/20/jrpg-scan-splosion-from-v-jump-magazine/">JRPG scan-splosion from V-Jump magazine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Aug 2007 11:30:00 EST. <p>While we may be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/ffta2-preparing-ourselves-for-disappointment/">a little disappointed</a> with some of what Square Enix is offering us with <em>Final Fantasy Tactics A2: The Sealed Grimoire</em>, that certainly doesn't mean we stop hoping. Of course, the first FFTA was no slouch, and a game building off that formula still makes us take notice, even if it's not going as far as we (or any touchscreen-enabled, Wi-Fi connected DS owner) might like.</p>
<p>In preparation for the game's October 25th Japanese release, Square Enix has continued to shed light on some of the additions to the races and jobs that will be available. As we've <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/opening-ffta2s-sealed-grimoire/">mentioned previously</a>, we know about the Hume, Moogle, Viera, Bangaa and Nu Moh races, with two more yet to be revealed. On the job front, they have recently added Yojimbo for the Humes, Chocobo Knight and Magic Gunner for the Moogles, Green Mage and Magic Fencer for the Viera, Master Monk and Cannoneer for the Bangaa, and Arcane Mage for the Nu Moh. This brings the total number of jobs announced for all races to 49, with another three still a mystery.</p>
<p>Squeenix has also released a handful of new images with the new classes in action, so check 'em out! What do you think, does it look good, or does its younger target demographics and lack of touchscreen use damage its appeal?</p>

Sound familiar? They should, if you played <em>Final Fantasy Tactics Advance</em>. Hey, it's a sequel -- did you expect <em>other</em> <strike>furry</strike> animal-based races?<br /><br />We know some of you are looking forward to the title (and others, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/ffta2-preparing-ourselves-for-disappointment/">not so much</a>), and though the details are starting to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/14/final-fantasy-tactics-a2-trailer-revealed/">shape up</a>, we're as yet undecided on how we feel about this game. In the end, since it's <em>Final Fantasy</em>, and we're shameless addicts, we'll probably give it a go, despite the question of <em>Tactics</em> vs. <em>Tactics Advance</em> being just as polarizing, if not more so, than the idea of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/ds-daily-do-you-get-a-little-tingly/">Tingle</a> starring in his own games.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/opening-ffta2s-sealed-grimoire/">Opening FFTA2's Sealed Grimoire</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jun 2007 18:40:00 EST. While the game -- or rather, its successor -- may be somewhat divisive among gamers who either loved or hated it, we hope you can all agree on at least one thing: these images look pretty sweet. We'll wait to pass judgment on the game itself, but there's no question about the screens -- they are filled with awesome. The color palette and the overall design is really easy on the eyes. We could easily stare at this one for hours, which is good, since, y'know, we probably <em>will.</em><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/take-a-peek-at-final-fantasy-tactics-a2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Take a peek at Final Fantasy Tactics A2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/take-a-peek-at-final-fantasy-tactics-a2/">Take a peek at Final Fantasy Tactics A2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Apr 2007 16:00:00 EST. This <em>FFTA2</em> scan shows off some of the first screens, as well as main characters Adel and Luso. <br /><br />So here it is. Let the <em>FFT</em> vs <em>FFTA</em> wars begin, though we're not sure there's much fodder just yet. No matter which you prefer, we'll say one thing: these Ivalice Alliance games threaten to dominate <span style="font-style: italic;">all</span> of our handheld time.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/get-a-load-of-final-fantasy-tactics-a2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Get a load of Final Fantasy Tactics A2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/get-a-load-of-final-fantasy-tactics-a2/">Get a load of Final Fantasy Tactics A2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Mar 2007 17:15:00 EST.
