Fieldrunners 2 sprinting to Android next week

Subatomic Studios has announced that Fieldrunners 2, having already hit iOS and Steam, is hoofing it to Android next week. The release won't have any Android-only content, but it does have the original's twenty-plus hour campaign, colorful hand-painted graphics, and Time Trial, Sudden Death, and Puzzle modes.

The Android version of Fieldrunners 2 will be available on April 24 on the Google Play store. Subatomic says its next focus will be on releasing an update for the iOS version.

Uplink and SpaceChem require tablets, but you can play the rest on your phone.

You're not out of luck if you lack a tablet, or even if you're without an Android phone. Even though it's an Android bundle, you'll also get the games on Windows, Mac, and Linux as well, along with all their soundtracks.

Fieldrunners HD runs to Android Market for $2.99, no longer Amazon exclusive

Previously confined to the Amazon Appstore, Fieldrunners HD is now available via the Android Market. The title launched on the Amazon Appstore with promotional pricing, an offer that evidently required it be exclusive to the service for two weeks.

Those two weeks are up so, if you've yet to experience the popular tower defense title, it can be had for $2.99.

Fieldrunners HD storms Android June 30, $.99 for first 24 hours

Just in time for the Fourth of July fireworks, Subatomic Studios is bringing its hit iOS tower defense title Fieldrunners to Android -- and it'll be a buck on day one. The Cambridge, Mass. based developer has announced that the $2.99 price for its game will be cut to $.99 on Thursday, June 30, which is when it arrives on the Android Market. From July 1 on, it's full price. (Note: The press release, which says the game is free during the first 24 hours, is incorrect.)

As its title suggests, Fieldrunners HD has undergone a visual upgrade for Android devices, with all its art assets getting a fresh coat of 950x540 resolution paint. Other than that, the game looks to be a facsimile of its previous iterations on iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad -- all of which were great. You don't need to be a West Point graduate to realize that grabbing this gem on day one is the winning strategy.

Fieldrunners dashes onto Euro PSN Oct. 1

The European PlayStation Blog has announced that iPhone mega-hit Fieldrunners will be a PSP Minis launch title on October 1. The tower defense game went straight to the top of the App Store charts (and won an IGF mobile award) for its intuitive design and beautiful visual style, which appears to have made the trip over to PSP -- along with new maps and towers.

No word from Sony America on whether the game will make it onto the next PSN update in the States or not. We've been told the next update will be gigantic because of the PSP Go's launch, so keep an eye out for an earlier-than-usual PSN Thursday and the mega update.

Nintendo's DS holiday lineup reveals Fieldrunners, Art Style, and more

As usual, Nintendo's lineup announcement contains stuff that has never been announced before, no doubt sending publishers scrambling to get their own press releases ready -- including Nintendo!

We now have dates for exciting third-party games like Space Invaders Extreme 2 (October 20) and A Witch's Tale (October 6), and Phantasy Star Zero (November 10). But Nintendo also revealed several DSiWare titles for the first time!

The company will follow this week's Art Academy with Art Academy: Second Semester on September 28, followed in Q4 by a DSiWare version of the bit Generations title Digidrive. We're interested in seeing whether Skip takes over or whether Pixeljunk developer Q-Games remakes its GBA game.

In other DSiWare news, the Electroplankton titles are due out in Q4, as is Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon, which we don't know anything about, Sparkle Snapshots, Picturebook Games: The Royal Bluff, and -- this is going to freak iPhone gamers out -- Fieldrunners!

With PAX 2009 just under two months away, the folks organizing the Penny Arcade Expo have begun gearing up for the show. How do we know, you ask? Simple: The PAX 10 was announced today, featuring a list of games we'd sorta/kinda heard of before.

Since we're so cool and totally knew about all these games before anyone else did (yeah right), we're a bit nonplussed by this year's PAX 10 winners. Hell, we even have Fieldrunners running on our giant, collective iPhone right now. Seriously! Okay, fine, we only knew that one ...

Report: Sony changing PSP dev pricing, pipeline to attract more creators

Sony's European head of developer relations, Zeno Colaço, has explained the company's strategy for courting companies to make products for its digital distribution-focused PSP line (more specifically, the new, expensive PSP Go). The executive tells Develop that the new development pipeline involves getting rid of concept approval, shortening quality assurance process, slashing the SDK price (and implementing cheaper development kits), and pushing for a low price point for games.

Colaço boasts that over 50 studios are already making the new generation of PSP titles. He mentions Subatomic Studios is already working on a PSP version of Fieldrunners, its tower-defense iPhone hit. Basically, Sony wants to bring App Store-esque titles to the PSP. We expect about four or five fart-based titles by holiday '09.

GDC09: IGF Mobile Award winners announced

Several games took home honors at this morning's Independent Games Festival's Mobile awards ceremony, but the event's true winner was apparent: the iPhone. While the awards were geared towards -- and open to -- titles for all wireless / mobile devices, every game that won is available exclusively on Apple's telephonic wunderkind (and, of course, the iPod touch).

Subatomic Studios' tower defense favorite, Fieldrunners, won for Best Art and Best Mobile Game (overall). Sergei Gourski and Jamie Gotch (above), the two developers responsible for the game, have been viewed as rising stars in the indie mobile gaming scene since Fieldrunners' release; today's wins cemented their star status. We spoke with the duo about their award-winning creation -- look for the full interview soon on the 'Stiq.

Two awards also went to Secret Exit for its sublime Zen Bound. The part game, part relaxation exercise was named Best iPhone Game and earned a Mobile Audio Achievement award. The Best Innovation award went to the simplistic, yet infinitely replayable 4x4 space strategy title, Galcon. The only unreleased game to win was Firemint's Real Racing, which earned Best Technical honors. We'll have a hands-on with the impressive looking (hey, it won the tech award for a reason) racer soon.
