Max has beaten a lot of personal demons, but last week he took on the Diablo at retail and won. According to Chart-Track, Max Payne 3 outperformed the previous sequel (from 2003) nearly 10 to 1.

Chart-Track also noted the third installment in the Payne series bested Diablo 3 by only about 8,000 sales. With Max Payne 3 only available through disc-based sales and Diablo 3 available through digital distribution, it would be fair to guess Diablo actually sold more. That is, if you believe Diablo 3 sold over 8,000 units online in the UK last week.

The rest of the top ten are the usual suspects. So, pop some pain killers and shoot past the break for the UK top ten.

Thanks to another week of minimal competition, Sniper Elite V2 maintains its vantage point atop the UK charts for a second week. The game may have seen sales drop 38 percent, but none of the new entries made any type of shakeup on the charts, with the regular motley crew holding the top ten.

The EA triplets of FIFA 12, FIFA Street and Mass Effect 3 find themselves in second, third and fifth place, respectively. Nudging in there for some cuddle time in fourth is Prototype 2.

Sony's Starhawk is the only new title to crack the top 40, flying in at spot 17 for its debut. March on past the break for the UK top ten.

Prototype 2 launched on Tuesday in the UK (instead of a Friday, per usual) last week and leapt to the top of the charts. Despite the strong premiere, Chart-Track notes the sequel couldn't match the first week sales success of the original game. Chart-Track doesn't share raw sales numbers, but it did point out that the game had stronger sales than previous chart-toppers Kinect Star Wars and The Witcher 2.

Speaking of Witcher 2, which held the crown last week, it slipped five spots into sixth place. EA continues to have a winning cluster with FIFA Street, FIFA 12 and Mass Effect 3 holding steady close to the top of the charts, with the group maintaining spots two through four, respectively.

Geralt of Rivia's got swagger, walkin' and witchin' to the top of the UK charts for his debut on Xbox 360. The console launch The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Enhanced Edition took the crown last week, with Chart-Track noting 98 percent of sales for the game were cast toward the console version.

The original PC version of The Witcher 2 reached the fifth spot on the UK charts when it premiered in May 2011, but that number didn't represent the full picture, since the chart doesn't count digitally distributed products.

Witcher 2 was the only new title to break the top 40, with the usual suspects in the top ten shifting around Geralt. FIFA Street and FIFA 12 both hold the silver and bronze, respectively. Kick on past the break for the UK top ten.

Chart-Track notes the title has now matched the rank history of the original FIFA Street, which also owned the hard charting streets for four weeks back in 2005.

It was a pretty quiet week in the battle for rankings otherwise, with the entirety of the top ten playing musical chairs. Last week's chart-topper, Kinect Star Wars, was not the game more people were looking for, and slipped down to fourth.

The only new release last week to break the top 40 was Pandora's Tower from Nintendo, which debuted in spot 38. Check out the UK top ten after the break.

Capcom's Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, once again, breaks EA's monopoly on the top five, inserting itself in fourth place, with EA's FIFA 12 running up in fifth.

New titles this week included Namco Bandai's (eye-roll inducing title) Narto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations, which debuted at number six. There was also a Silent Hill double-header, as Silent Hill HD Collection and Silent Hill: Downpour debuted at number 12 and 15, respectively. Find the UK top ten after the break... if you dare.

It's good to be EA in the UK right now, as the publisher holds the top four spots on the all formats sales chart. The company's latest addition, FIFA Street, debuted at the top of the charts, pushing Mass Effect 3 and SSX into second and third, respectively. Fourth is held by stalwart footster FIFA 12.

Chart-Track dug into the archives and unearthed the last time EA claimed the top four spots was in week 48 and 49 of... 2003. At that time -- a tumultuous period, because Madonna kissed both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera on TV and the world was going to end -- it was FIFA 2004, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun and Need for Speed: Underground.

The bottom half of the UK top ten is full of familiars, including the sweatastic return of Zumba Fitness. Another reboot, Sony's Twisted Metal, drove into 12th place for its launch. Check out the UK top ten after the break.

The latter takes to the conventional styles of soccer, where setting up plays and well-timed crosses are the keys to victory. The former focuses on "the beautiful game," where one player juggles a ball around with blinding grace, tricking an opponent into moving one direction while taking the ball in the other.

FIFA Street utilizes the Player Impact Engine found in FIFA 12, which relies more heavily on the physics of players and the ball instead of using only animations. It's a good starting point for a game that, compared to other FIFA titles, spotlights soccer tricks more than ever. The end result, however, turns into a "FIFA lite" of sorts, with shoddy action frighteningly reminiscent of the problematic FIFA 12 demo.

Especially when this is an alternative.

Messi has signed a multi-year endorsement contract with EA Sports, so there will be plenty of opportunities for more action-packed game covers, probably featuring him screaming at something.

In fact, it might possess more depth -- according to EA, it will feature "twice as many moves as FIFA 12."

The game will also feature the suite of EA Football Club features first announced at E3 this year, among other, unspecified social networking features. Fun under the sun. That's probably the sort of feeling that Electronic Arts aimed at bringing out with FIFA Street 3; however, the game unfortunately doesn't completely deliver that sort of experience. At first glance, FIFA Street 3 faithfully replicates the atmosphere of outdoor street soccer with its bright arenas and upbeat soundtrack, coupled with flashy fast-paced futsal. But underneath the highly stylized appearance, there's a lack of gameplay depth which ultimately cuts down the game's longevity.

This is not to say that the game isn't fun or the gameplay is horrible; in fact the controls are great and matches are refreshingly intense. However, FIFA Street 3 lacks certain elements and game modes that make other soccer games so much fun to play for extended periods of time. The game has got a few things going for itself, but ultimately, for all its pluses there are an equal number of minuses.

As we anxiously await the arrival of PGA Street, Electronic Arts has seen fit to release a demo of FIFA Street 3 on Xbox Live Marketplace. Clocking in at a diminutive 293MB, the game offers up a different kind of soccer experience, the kind that is apparently played in gloomy dockyards and under overpasses (presumably for hard cash and harder women). If soccer simulations have got you down, or your just hankering to pull off your own wall-running Matrix moves, then by all means go give it a try.

FIFA Street 3, EA's arcadey interpretation of soccer designed for people who like their sports games to come with a more (*cringe*) "urban" feel, is coming to the DS.

Previously slated for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, EA announced the DS version this morning, promising touch screen controls, the usual array of flicks, bicycle kicks, and tricks, and DS exclusive stages and mini-games.

Also making the transition to the handheld version are the unique character models that appear in the home console editions, which we totally love, by the way. Hopefully, the DS's screens will be big enough to sufficiently show these off.
