The latest dev diary for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fight-night-champion">Fight Night Champion</a></em> details the title's biggest, newest feature: Online Gyms. Create a fighter and join the ranks of a player-made gym, brawling up tournament ladders and taking on other teams. Just make sure your gym has a clever name, first. (For instance: "Boxers.")<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/20/hit-the-gyms-with-fight-night-champions-new-online-features/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hit the gyms with Fight Night Champion's new online features</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/20/hit-the-gyms-with-fight-night-champions-new-online-features/">Hit the gyms with Fight Night Champion's new online features</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 20 Feb 2011 12:00:00 EST. How could not want to hear all about <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fight-night-champion">Fight Night Champion</a></em> from a man named "Jazz?" Okay, okay -- he's also an assistant producer on the title and he goes into detail about the game's much improved Legacy Mode. That might be more important ... <em>we guess</em>.<br />
<br />
In other <em>Fight Night Champion</em> news, the game's entire roster has been <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-12-09-the-54-boxers-of-fight-night-champion">revealed</a> by EA. And yes, before you start asking, Marvelous Marvin Hagler is <em>totally</em> in there. We've dropped the entire list after the break, aka "the only place you'll find Joe Frazier hanging out next to George Foreman."<br type="_moz" /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/10/ea-producer-talks-fight-night-legacy-mode-full-roster-revealed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EA producer talks Fight Night Legacy Mode, full roster revealed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/10/ea-producer-talks-fight-night-legacy-mode-full-roster-revealed/">EA producer talks Fight Night Legacy Mode, full roster revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Dec 2010 23:15:00 EST. EA has just revealed the next round in its <em>Fight Night</em> boxing series: <em>Fight Night Champion</em>. <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/110/1107055p1.html">IGN</a> has the first details on the game, which offers a new focus on single-player content and claims to be more accessible to new players.<br />
<br />
EA Sports stresses that the game isn't an expansion to the fourth round <em>Fight Night</em> game from last year, with gameplay producer Brian Hayes suggesting that <em>Champion</em> will be "The full meal deal with desert and a toy. The whole enchilada. All that and a bag..." Somewhere between 60 and 65 pugilists (we had to fit that word in here somewhere) will grace <em>Champion</em>'s rings, though only Manny Pacquaio can be parsed from the two shots revealed thus far. We'll jab EA for more details well before the title debuts in 2011.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/20/fight-night-champion-to-pummel-ps3-and-xbox-360-in-2011/">Fight Night Champion to pummel PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Jul 2010 10:15:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/flower"><em><strong>Flower</strong></em></a><br />
This year had a number of terrific downloadable games (this list is a testament to that), however no game -- retail or digital -- connected with me like <em>Flower</em>. Jenova Chen's <em>flOw</em> was an interesting experiment, but Flower is an <em>actual</em> game. In fact, <em>Flower</em> is one of the few experiences I can think of that show the true potential of games as a unique storytelling medium. No other non-interactive art form will ever be able to replicate what thatgamecompany has managed to create.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-andrews-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Andrew's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-andrews-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Andrew's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 02 Jan 2010 21:00:00 EST. Boxing fans who were hoping to enhance their sweet, sweet scientific exploits in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fight-night-round-4"><em>Fight Night Round 4</em></a> for the Xbox 360 were recently stricken with disappointment -- the game's latest DLC, the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/24/fight-night-round-4-gets-new-fighters-modes-major-update-dec/">Champions Pack 2,</a>" hit the Xbox Live Marketplace with a fairly problematic issue which caused the system to freeze up while downloading the content. This is doubly troubling, because as we understand it, <em>downloading</em> is actually a pretty important step in the DLC process.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/346692.page">EA Sports commented on the error</a> on its official forums, stating that the DLC has been pulled from the Marketplace until a non-glitched version can be rolled out, hopefully "before the Christmas holidays." People who managed to download the DLC without freezing can still play the game, but won't be able to access the pack's locked content until the revised DLC is released. People who managed to download <em>half</em> of the DLC pack before freezing can play as Evander Holyfield's torso.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/06/fight-night-round-4-dlc-pulled-due-to-freezing-issues/">Fight Night Round 4 DLC pulled due to freezing issues</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 06 Dec 2009 16:30:00 EST. For those of you wishing to recreate the <a href="http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4636589883868559869#">ear-biting banality</a> that is a boxing match between Mike Tyson (please don't hurt us!) and Evander Holyfield (the poor guy!), EA Sports is enabling just such a possibility with this week's DLC for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fight-night-round-4"><em>Fight Night Round 4</em></a>. Titled "Rivalries," it'll be adding three new fighters as well as some new game modes. <br />
<br />
The DLC's trailer (found after the break) details all the new additions, as well as giving us our first in-action look at the new fighters. We'll be re-imagining Holyfield's fateful fight with Tyson getting pummeled into the ground when the DLC arrives on December 3 - call it <em>virtual retribution</em>. <br />

Pugilists looking to beef up their stable of brawlers in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fight-night-round-4"><em>Fight Night Round 4</em></a> will be able to do just that when EA offers up three new fighters in a DLC pack for 360 and PS3 on December 3. For the price of 160<span class="album_title"><img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /></span> ($2) and $1.99, respectively, you'll be able to add boxing greats Evander Holyfield, Sonny Liston and Bernard Hopkins to your virtual lineup of potential pulverizers. In addition to the new DLC, EA will also bring in the cut man to fix a few issues fighters are having with the game -- you can find the full list of fixes after the break -- and will add Old School Rules and Ring Rivalry mode. Here's the fight card:<br />
<br />
<strong>Full bundle (Xbox 360/PS3) </strong> - 800<span class="album_title"><img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /></span> ($10) / $9.99
<ul>
    <li>Evander Holyfield, Sonny Liston and Bernard Hopkins</li>
    <li>Ring Rivalry game mode (allows players to choose from over 20 different match options recreating boxing's most famous matchups)</li>
    <li>Old School Rules game mode (simulates the common rules of boxing prior to the establishment of the Marquis of Queensbury Rules)</li>
</ul>

First thing's first: EA's <a href="http://blog.fightnight.easports.com/archive/2009/08/25/boxer-pack-ii-and-title-update.aspx">official blog</a> informs us that the new DLC we reported on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/12/not-in-the-box-ers-fight-night-round-4-dlc-updates-announced/">a few weeks back</a> is available for download, which <a href="http://blog.fightnight.easports.com/archive/2009/08/25/boxer-pack-ii-and-title-update.aspx">adds</a> a bunch of new faces to pummel. There's also a title update that flips the switch on the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/08/fight-night-round-4-getting-free-control-scheme-update-dlc/">button-based control scheme</a>. Okay, now onto the juicy stuff.<br /><br />EA also sent us a press release about the new content in <strike>ad server</strike> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fight-night-round-4/"><em>Fight Night Round 4</em></a>, but took care to point out that the game had "sold over a million units in its first month," according to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/npd">NPD</a> data. Our more observant readers may remember the game sold <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/16/june-npd-prototype-rips-apart-the-sales-charts/">471.1K on Xbox 360 and PS3 in June</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/13/july-npd-hardware-sales-slide-wii-sports-resort-soars/">116K on Xbox 360 in July</a> and, considering the PS3 version wasn't even on the July list, you can see it just doesn't add up. Even if we assume <em>FNR4</em> on PS3 sold 96K -- lower than the last title on July's list -- it <em>still </em>doesn't add up. We're not mathologists (well, okay, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/ludwig-kietzmann">one</a> of us is), but Denmark is stinkin' something <em>fierce</em> right now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/28/ea-releases-fight-night-round-4-dlc-dubious-sales-data/">EA releases Fight Night Round 4 DLC, dubious sales data</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Aug 2009 23:59:00 EST. We know what you're thinking. "Hey, aren't there <em>already</em> <em>Fight Night Round 4</em> and <em>FEAR 2</em> demos?" The answer to that question is ... yes. However, these are <em>new</em> <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/fight-night-round-4"><em>Fight Night Round 4</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fear-2"><em>FEAR 2</em></a> demos. The new <em>Fight Night </em>demo adds the ability to punch using the face buttons instead of the right stick, so it might be worth a look for those who were turned off before. It also features a "body spamming fix." We're not sure what that is, but it sounds gross.<br />
<br />
The <em>FEAR 2</em> demo is actually pretty interesting, as it's a demo for the upcoming single-player DLC pack, "Reborn." It's not very common to see demos for an add-on, but it seems like a pretty good idea. If you're hankering to see what "Reborn" has in store, download the demo and give it a try. The DLC itself was originally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/new-f-e-a-r-2-dlc-flips-the-script-in-august/">scheduled to release this month</a>, so it <em>should</em> be available any day now.<br />

According to <a href="http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/20054/Freeze-Bug-Has-Fight-Night-Round-4-Against-the-Ropes/">Team Xbox</a>, there's a nasty glitch bogging down players in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fight-night-round-4"><em>Fight Night Round 4</em></a>. This glitch causes the game to suddenly freeze, forcing players to <em>actually get up</em> and turn off their Xbox consoles. Wait, get up? That's crazy talk!<br /><br />Supposedly, this is an issue tied to certain files and the HDD, though there isn't any explanation beyond that. And what makes this so surprising is that the game's demo <a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&amp;q=fight+night+round+4+glitch+xbox&amp;aq=f&amp;oq=&amp;aqi=">had a few</a> glitches, including a freezing glitch just like this one. We've put in word to EA to get to the bottom of this issue and will be sure to get back to you with what we find.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/25/down-for-the-count-players-report-fight-night-round-4-glitch/">Down for the count: Players report Fight Night Round 4 glitch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Jun 2009 15:30:00 EST. <div align="left">EA's fourth iteration of the <em>Fight Night</em> series not only <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-5-22-09/">looks better than it ever has</a>, but it's coming very soon to a store near you. EA tells us at their press conference in LA that the game will drop June 25th on the 360 and PS3 -- five days sooner than we expected it.<br /><br />So get the gloves on and taped up and make sure that mouthpiece is in nice and secure. You've got about three weeks to get down to fighting weight.</div>

We honestly can't decide which is uglier: Ricky Hatton's mangled face in real life, or his rearranged digital visage after a few pummels. See, that's Hatton's incredibly life-like render in EA's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fight-night-round-4">Fight Night Round 4</a> </em>right there, pictured to the left getting his jaw jammed out like a typewriter carriage. <br /><br />Although you can't see the swift movement that went into that jab, <em>Fight Night's</em> dev team says you'll certainly <em>feel it</em> once you've finally got the controller in your hands. As revealed on <a href="http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/229707.page">the EA Sports forums</a>, the latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine spills the <strike>beans</strike> er, whatever's in a punching bag on the complete roster of fighters that will be featured in <em>Fight Night Round 4</em>. The list is comprised of 50 pugilists in total, with the magazine commenting that more could <em>potentially </em>be added via DLC. <br /><br />Wait a second ... <em>no <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2006/02/27/fnr3-lets-get-rrrready-to-rrrretail/">Burger King</a>?</em> As much as it saddens us, he's not on the complete roster, which you'll find conveniently situated after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xboxinsider.net/fight-night-round-4-full-roster-leaked/">XboxInsider</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/04/fight-night-round-4-roster-features-50-faces-to-rearrange/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fight Night Round 4 roster features 50 faces to rearrange</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/04/fight-night-round-4-roster-features-50-faces-to-rearrange/">Fight Night Round 4 roster features 50 faces to rearrange</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 May 2009 18:05:00 EST. Some fresh screens from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fight-night-round-4"><em>Fight Night Round 4</em></a> have made their way into the ring and, as one might expect, they're chock full of punching dudes (and a few <em>dudes getting punched</em>). Based on everything we've seen so far, we'd say <em>Fight Night Round 4</em> has a real shot at the title, through a combination of some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/06/fight-night-round-4-physics-trailer-full-of-sweaty-dudes/">solid physics</a> and the controls established in previous entries (though, there's always room for improvement). We'll find out if it's the real deal this summer, when it releases on the Xbox 360 and PS3. <br /><br />In the meanwhile, bob and weave your way into our gallery below to check out the new shots.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-27-09/">Fight Night Round 4 (4/27/09)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-27-09/#2003022"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/fightnight4eala07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-27-09/#2003023"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/fightnight4eala06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-27-09/#2003024"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/fightnight4eala08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-27-09/#2003025"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/fightnight4eala09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-27-09/#2003026"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/fightnight4eala10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/27/ricky-hatton-puts-his-dukes-up-in-new-fight-night-round-4-screen/">Ricky Hatton puts his dukes up in new Fight Night Round 4 screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Apr 2009 16:30:00 EST. In it, producer Brian Hayes talks about what changes players can expect from <em>Round 3 </em>to <em>Round 4</em> with respect to the game's physics. He explains that in the first game, there was an invisible wall keeping the two boxers separated, which is not the case in <em>Round 4</em>. The next installment will feature improved collision detection and less clipping, which is something Hayes hopes allows for more realistic <em>punching people in the face and/or body</em>.<br /><br />If you're not content with the video, punch your way into our gallery below, which is full of new screens. <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-13-09/">Fight Night Round 4 (4/13/09)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-13-09/#1489751"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/jones_01-fnr4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-13-09/#1489752"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/paz_action01-fnr4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-13-09/#1489753"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/paz_action02-fnr4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-13-09/#1489754"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pavlik01-fnr4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4-4-13-09/#1489755"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/pavlik02-fnr4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/13/video-physics-at-work-in-fight-night-round-4/">Video: Physics at work in Fight Night Round 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Apr 2009 18:00:00 EST. First things first: Mike Tyson, where's your face tattoo?! Second: We've got a load of new screens from semi-perennial pugilist <em>Fight Night Round 4</em>, presented in a gallery just a few inches down. Do the shots look good? Just as good as when we saw <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/joystiq-impressions-fight-night-round-4/">the game in action</a> earlier this month. <br /><br />With <em>Fight Night Round 4 </em>still months away from any formal release (the game's slated to come out swinging "this summer"), we suggest you check out the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/12/ali-and-tyson-throw-down-in-fight-night-round-4-trailer/">trailer</a> in the meantime. Hopefully we'll have some hands-on impressions for you sometime in the near future.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4/">Fight Night Round 4</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4/#1462593"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/toney_action03_layered_jen_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4/#1462594"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/toney_pose01_layered_jen_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4/#2030675"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/2009-05-22_15-32-33_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4/#1489751"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/jones_01-fnr4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fight-night-round-4/#1429228"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/blocking-3132009-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/new-fight-night-round-4-screens-look-great-face-tattoos-absent/">New Fight Night Round 4 screens look great, face tattoos absent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Mar 2009 13:22:00 EST. IGN has uploaded <a href="http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/142/14235163/imgs_1.html">a new gameplay trailer</a> for t<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/09/muhammad-ali-mike-tyson-cover-fight-night-round-4/">he recently announced</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fight-night-round-4"><em>Fight Night Round 4</em></a> and it's pretty much full of what you'd expect: <em>sweaty men getting their punch on</em>. The cover's boxers, Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson, are featured in the video past the break and, well, we won't spoil who wins. Actually, we're lying: we couldn't if we wanted to. This one's a <em>cliffhanger</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/12/ali-and-tyson-throw-down-in-fight-night-round-4-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ali and Tyson throw down in Fight Night: Round 4 trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/12/ali-and-tyson-throw-down-in-fight-night-round-4-trailer/">Ali and Tyson throw down in Fight Night: Round 4 trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Mar 2009 19:40:00 EST. There will be plenty of butterfly floating and bee stinging in the ring this summer, as EA announced that Muhammad Ali will be one of two cover athletes for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fight-night-round-4"><em>Fight Night Round 4</em></a>. The boxing legend will share the space with powerhouse and controversy magnet Mike Tyson. We just hope Ali knows to duck out of the way should <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYR_acwm0VQ">Tyson's eyes flash red</a> before schooling "Iron Mike" in a lesson of sweet science. <br /><br />Both will be playable in the upcoming title, which is currently in development at EA Canada. Also, eager players who lay down a pre-order for <em>Fight Night Round 4</em> at GameStop will net early access to the game's demo, giving them some extra time to live out pugilistic dreams before the rest of the world laces up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/09/muhammad-ali-mike-tyson-cover-fight-night-round-4/">Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson cover Fight Night Round 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Mar 2009 09:00:00 EST. Hey you! Yes, you, the fashionable gamer over there. Would you like to learn about <em>Fight Night Round 4 </em>(which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/06/ea-shuts-down-chicago-studio/">won't be made by the studio that made <span style="font-style: italic;">Round 3</span></a>, incidentally)? Would you like to see the very first glimpse of the game (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/fight-night-round-4-announced-mike-tyson-included/">possibly including Mike Tyson</a>)? Well, according to a <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/43029.html">new teaser trailer </a>(embedded after the break), you can see exactly that during the Spike Video Game Awards on December 14 at 9:00pm Eastern. Looks like you'd better clear your calendar right now. Or, you know, you could just wait until the next day when the footage will be all over the internet. It's your call, really.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/21/fight-night-round-4-debuts-at-2008-vgas/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fight Night Round 4 debuts at 2008 VGAs</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/21/fight-night-round-4-debuts-at-2008-vgas/">Fight Night Round 4 debuts at 2008 VGAs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 15:00:00 EST. Quick, before someone makes them pull it down, check out the shaky-cam footage of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Fight-Night-Round-4/">Fight Night Round 4</a></em> some adventurous GameStop employee captured at the company's recent expo. Go ahead, it's right after the jump. We can wait, we've got a few other things we needed to do anyway.<br /><br />... Finished? Honestly, after a string of disappointing boxing titles, we think that taking a more physics-based approach sounds pretty intriguing, but we're worried that the realism might start to bog down the fun. What do you think?<br /><br />[Thanks, MOT]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/18/see-fight-night-4-in-shaky-cam-action/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>See Fight Night Round 4 in shaky-cam action</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/18/see-fight-night-4-in-shaky-cam-action/">See Fight Night Round 4 in shaky-cam action</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Sep 2008 11:45:00 EST. Of course this could translate to a number of ideas so before we get bent out of shape we should consider it doesn't have to be a bad thing.<br /><br />Consider a subscription based model that would drop by-the-minute roster updates for your favorite sports games over multiple seasons rather than having to plunk down another full retail chunk of change. While we can't guess what might, if anything at all does, come of this idea we can at least credit EA for being one of the publishers that keeps trying to innovate. Whether some like it or not.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/30/ea-sports-looking-into-possible-subscription-program-future/">EA Sports looking into possible subscription program future</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jul 2008 11:00:00 EST. But EA announced this afternoon that fans need wait no longer as <em>Fight Night </em>will return for "Round 4" at some point next year on Xbox 360 and PS3.<br /><br />There are few details at this point, other than what you'd expect (new gameplay engine, new physics, etc.). Perhaps most exciting is that Mike Tyson will appear in the game, more than a decade after both his last video game appearance and his last brush with relevance.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/ea-annouces-fight-night-round-4-with-mike-tyson/">EA announces Fight Night Round 4 (with Mike Tyson!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 May 2008 13:33:00 EST. Are you <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ready_2_Rumble"><em>Ready 2 Rumble</em></a>? "No," says EA's newly announced boxing game, <em>Facebreaker</em>. "But I do feature real-time facial deformation and a lighthearted approach to pugilistic pummeling! So really, I'm more like a <em>Fight Night</em> cel-out." According to the folks at <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165752">1UP</a>, <em>Facebreaker</em> is being developed by EA Canada for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii. Says <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/17/peter-moore-resigns-from-microsoft-replaced-by-don-mattrick/">EA's Peter Moore</a>: "Arcade boxing takes me back to my roots in this industry, and this game signals our shift to adding more approachable fun to our product lineup."<br /><br />Those approaching the fun will find an inevitably "colorful" cast of playable caricatures to choose from, including "Latin lover" Romeo and "an oversized Russian demolitions expert" called Molotov. If you'd prefer to have your <em>own</em> face broken, you can either integrate a personal photo via Game Face technology or simply wear your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Tingle/">Tingle</a> costume when buying the game from the store.<br /><br />More <em>Facebreaker</em> details can be found in the March 2008 issue of <em>EGM</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/31/ea-reveals-facebreaker-a-cartoonish-boxing-game/">EA reveals 'Facebreaker,' a tooned-up Fight Night</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Jan 2008 05:30:00 EST. Speaking to Gabriel Montoya of <a href="http://www.doghouseboxing.com//Gabriel/Montoya_020907.htm">Doghouseboxing.com</a>, the producer of <em>Fight Night Round 3</em> explains that a Wii entry into the fisticuff franchise is currently being discussed within the towering offices of EA. "We're contemplating and we definitely feel there are some exciting things we can do with the Fight Night franchise and the Wii," says Michael Blank. <br />
<br />
"When you play <em>Wii Boxing</em> it is a very simple experience and I think that is what they designed it to be just to let you know that you can throw punches. With <em>Fight Night</em> we have an amazing simulation of Boxing and so we need to take those Wii controls and tailor it to what the <em>Fight Night</em> consumer might want to experience." Though nothing definitive has been announced, <em>Fight Night Round Wii</em> seems like an inevitability. <br />
<br />
With <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/19/joystiq-hands-on-ssx-blur-wii/">SSX Blur</a> </em>showing EA's willingness to embrace an alternative control set and <em>Wii Boxing</em> providing a solid, albeit simplistic boxing example, the way is paved. Even if it is with bloody teeth.<br />

Some advertisements are becoming more overt, while other forms of product placement are more subtly placed in games.<br />
<br />
Adidas uses the product-placement route with frequent branding in <em>NBA Live 07</em>. Burger King takes the obvious, if comical approch in <em>Fight Night Round 3</em>, with an unlockable King mascot character who joins your ringside entourage.<br />
<br />
Acclaim plans a different approach with free, ad-supported MMO games; pop-up ads from corporate sponsors would let you know which real-world company just paid for your in-game sword. We're interested in seeing how gamers view that tradeoff, but clearly there's a line where too many ads will scare players away.<br />

Let it be known that we don't ignore <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6156786.html?q=fight%20night%20round%203">positive Sony news</a> at 360Fanboy: Recall last week's announcement that EA will grace the PS3 with an upgraded version of <em>Fight Night: Round 3</em> including a first-person mode, ESPN integration, and some minor graphical polish. When I first heard this, I was annoyed that there are no plans to release this stuff as downloadable content on XBLM. Then I realized, by the time Joe Average gets his hands on PS3, we'll likely be enjoying <em>Fight Night Round 4</em>. Still, it's nice that PS3 fanboys have something to cling to in their hour of need. Maybe EA should throw in some 1080p Burger King ads to really spread the cheer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/08/ps3-gets-upgraded-fnr3/">PS3 gets upgraded FNR3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Sep 2006 02:15:00 EST. It was <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3153310">announced</a> today that the successful next-gen boxing sim <em>Fight Night Round 3</em> will hop from the 360 ring and into the PlayStation 3 squared-circle. However, for this round EA Chicago is handing off the port duties to EA Canada. And, instead of just a straight transition, a first-person mode called "Get in the Ring" will be added.<br />
<br />
Also included in the PS3 version will be EA's ESPN ticker integration that has updated news and sports info. The game is scheduled to be released this holiday season. This all makes us wonder when <em>Fight Night Round 4</em> will be released for both consoles. Is EA going to hold that back until <em>Round 3</em> has collected enough prize money?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/30/fight-night-round-3-to-punch-ps3-gamers-in-the-face/">Fight Night Round 3 to punch PS3 gamers in the face</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Aug 2006 17:55:00 EST. Team Xbox forum member Xpoc decided to make the <a href="http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=422138">most mismatched fight</a> he could in <em>Fight Night Round 3</em>. Using the character creation tool, he managed to create the scene pictured to the left; a sort of next-gen variation of <em>Punch Out</em>'s diminutive Little Mac going mano a mano with King Hippo. <br />

<span style="font-style: italic;">Fight Night Round 3</span> (<span style="font-style: italic;">FNR3</span>) for the Xbox 360 is the truth. Is it perfect? No. But a lethal combination of arresting visuals and fine-tuned gameplay make <span style="font-style: italic;">FNR3</span> an early contender for Xbox 360 game of the year. And while it's difficult to imagine EA's boxing sim holding the crown throughout the course of 2006, it's certainly no stretch to herald <span style="font-style: italic;">FNR3</span><span style="font-style: italic;"> </span>as a critical leap forward in the next-gen era.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/01/joystiq-review-fight-night-round-3-xbox-360/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Review: Fight Night Round 3 (Xbox 360)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/01/joystiq-review-fight-night-round-3-xbox-360/">Joystiq Review: Fight Night Round 3 (Xbox 360)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Mar 2006 12:00:00 EST. <p class="MsoNormal">Boxing fans looking to re-enact Shane Mosley's Saturday night <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=2345304">beat down</a> of formerly "Ferocious" Fernando Vargas were likely disappointed to learn (or at least be reminded) that Sugar Shane failed to make the <em>Fight Night Round 3 </em> roster after lacing up virtual leather in the two previous games. Then again, Vargas hasn't shown his battered mug in any of the Fight Nights, leading one to wonder: just how badly does a man's face have to get pummeled before the video game gods throw him a bone? (For those who didn't shell out for the pay-per-view, Mosley won a hard-fought TKO that left Fernando looking like the <a href="http://espn-att.starwave.com/media/box/2006/0225/photo/a_vargas_195.jpg">Mexican Elephant Man</a>). </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Granted, create-a-boxer can go a long away in patient hands, as evidenced by this <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sports/fightnightround3/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26542029&amp;pid=930863">home-brew ear-chewer</a>. Sure, the financially shady nature of the sport makes licensing difficult and numerous omissions inevitable. <span style=""> </span>Mosley could be missing due to his own greed and fading marquee. That said, when an otherwise quality title's "coolest" <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sports/fightnightround3/hints.html">unlockable</a> is a...Burger King ad, every unrendered tomato-can grates on the nerves. Hey EA, Don King belongs in a boxing game. The Burger King does not. Oh, and if you suddenly felt the urge to "Grab Life By The Horns" while pitting Hagler against Hearns, credit the smooth 30 DLPS (That's Dodge Logos Per Second) for delivering a subliminal knock-out. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I understand the economics at play here. Maybe we could have had George Foreman if they stuck a Meineke muffler up his ass to off-set costs. But boxing is one of my favorite sports and <em>Fight Night Round 3</em> is thus far my favorite 360 game. Here's to the irrational dream that the next $60 installment includes more pugilists and less plastic-head product placements.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/27/fnr3-lets-get-rrrready-to-rrrretail/">FNR3: Let's Get Rrrready To Rrrretail!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Feb 2006 14:40:00 EST. <br />
Following Bill Gates' <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/billgates/speeches/2006/01-04CES.asp">speech</a> at CES last week, famed boxing announcer Al Bernstein introduced Microsoft's top brass before they duked it out in EA's <span style="font-style: italic;">Fight Night Round 3</span> on the Xbox 360. It's a cute enough video but, though the game does look great, the gushing grates on you after a while. Who wins? <strike>Gates</strike> Ali of course!<br />

<p>It looks like Fight Night Round 2 will deliver. The two reviews out there say that it improves on the original in almost every way. The Game Informer writer even admits he's not a big boxing fan, and he still walked away impressed. As a boxing fan that gives me pause, but if the title is anything like the first one it's going to get my 50.</p>

<p>Since I've been in the mood to kick some fanny recently (but, predictably, don't have the guts to pick a fight with anyone) I've been waiting for Fight Night Round 2. Hey, some people get out their aggression in blog comments, and some need a good boxing game. The screenies show off the improved graphics engine and the toned-down sweat sheen. The last game in the series went a little overboard with the oil look. Now the guys look like fighters, not massage victims.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/01/17/new-fight-night-round-2-shots/">New Fight Night Round 2 shots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Jan 2005 11:43:00 EST.
