Redditor morphinapg has cut together the cinematic cutscenes from all three Uncharted titles to create three separate feature-length films.

Morphinapg used a minimal amount of gameplay to connect the cutscenes, and voila, we have a movie series that anyone - at least 180,000 on YouTube - can enjoy.

"With these projects I was trying to make movies that would be viewable whether or not you had played the game, or even care about playing video games, so I wanted to make them as close to a real movie as possible," Morphinapg wrote. In the end Microsoft wanted too much, and it didn't know how to ask for it - it only knew how to demand. The industry differences between Microsoft and the film's two production studios, Fox and Universal, eventually led to the project's implosion, Jamie Russell explains in his book, Generation Xbox: How Video Games Invaded Hollywood.

Microsoft's terms included $10 million against 15 percent of the box office gross, a budget of at least $75 million and fast-tracked production, as well as creative approval over the director, regular flights from Seattle to L.A. to review post-production footage and 60 first-class plane tickets for Microsoft personnel and guests to attend the premiere, all at the expense of whichever studio picked up the script. Not even Harry Potter was getting this level of concessions, Larry Shapiro of Hollywood talent agency CAA says.
Continue reading Book: Halo film failed because Microsoft doesn't 'get' Hollywood

Book: Halo film failed because Microsoft doesn't 'get' Hollywood originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 19 Apr 2012 18:00:00 EST. Described as a "relative newcomer" to script writing, Ryan Engle will be boiling the game down into a screenplay, while John Rickard of Nightmare on Elm Street and Final Destination 5 fame produces.

Look, we're glad Mr. Engle is getting a paycheck out of this and everything, but we can't help but feel a little slighted. If you needed someone to write your Rampage movie, New Line, all you had to do was ask. That doesn't mean he isn't working on anything, however: "I'm working on something, and I hope in the near future I'll have something to announce."

Well then! Avi and Ari Arad (who formerly worked with Marvel on the Spider-Man series, among other projects) are said to be producing the movie, should it come to fruition.

If the deal pans out, the screenplay would follow the story of the games, pitting a series of vehicular combatants, including the iconic Doll Face and Sweet Tooth, against each other in a tournament to win a wish from the devilish Calypso. We don't have a lot of attachment to the game's "story," so we already expect Taylor to take all of the liberties he wants. Can't make it out to the Sundance film festival to check out the world premiere of the crowdsource-funded documentary Indie Game: The Movie? There's no need to worry, assuming you can score passes to SXSW instead; the film will have a showing at the SXSW ScreenBurn Arcade (March 9 - 11) and SXSW Film (March 9 - 17) next year (clap, clap, clap, clap) deep in the heart of Austin, Texas.

The conference will also host a panel presented by IG:TM creators James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot, along with Phil Fish, the creator of Fez, one of the titular indie games. The whole thing is so full-circular, we might just faint.
Indie Game: The Movie showing at SXSW, creators hosting panel originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 16 Dec 2011 16:20:00 EST. Good news, everyone! Indie Game: The Movie -- which you may have helped fund at some point or another during the last year and a half -- will finally make its debut in late January 2012. We know, we know; you're worried about how that's going to conflict with your scheduled attendance of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. There's no need to worry, silly goose: That's exactly where it's making its debut. Crazy, right?

The crowdsource-funded film's official blog announced that the movie had earned an official selection in the World Documentary Category of the festival. If you can't make the trip to Utah, don't worry: You can also request a screening of the film in your hometown, or wait until the movie hits DVDs following its initial screening tour. Us? We don't have to see it, Dottie. We lived it.
Indie Game: The Movie making its debut at the Sundance Film Festival originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 30 Nov 2011 23:00:00 EST. "Scripts are late. Writers are two years late. I was two weeks late," Bloodrayne film screenwriter Guinevere Turner passionately explains in an interview pulled from "Tales From the Script," a documentary showcasing stories from across the world of screenwriting. "Uwe Boll calls me [on the phone], 'This is fucking disgusting! You lied to me! Where is my script?!'," she continues, demonstrating how she held the phone away from her head as he yelled.

Unsurprisingly, Turner wasn't a fan of being yelled at, and instructed her manager to make sure she never heard from Boll again. When she turned in the script, however, Turner still expected to work with Boll on future drafts. That wasn't to be, as she recalls that Boll accepted the very first "nasty, little scrappy draft"and went right into production (though she notes that only about 20 percent of what she wrote made it into the film's final cut). When Bloodrayne finally debuted at Los Angeles' famous "Mann's Chinese Theater," Turner says she was the only one in the room of production staff "laughing out loud."

Adding insult to injury, Turner closes the interview by saying, "It's like a 25 million dollar movie, and it blows! I mean, it's like the worst movie ever made." But then, maybe she hasn't seen Far Cry?
Bloodrayne screenwriter explains the perils of working with Uwe Boll originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 26 Oct 2011 11:30:00 EST. Never before have our hearts received news with such confusion: In a recent interview with IGN, Toy Story writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen hinted at their next project: A movie adaptation of Zynga's Farmville franchise. "We're in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands," they teased. "Can't really say too much on that front yet, but 'Old MacDonald' didn't have a factory, if you get our drift." We do not get your drift. Your drift makes us sad.

We trust the two to craft a compelling story, but we worry there's not enough rich source material for them to base it on. All we know is we're not looking forward to receiving a hundred daily invitations to go to the movie from our distant, distant cousins and fourth grade math teachers.
Oh god, they're probably making a Farmville movie originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 08 Oct 2011 03:00:00 EST. Though reports from February of a planned film adaptation of Techland's then yet-to-be-released zombie title Dead Island were struck down by the studio, legitimate plans for the movie were revealed earlier today. Lionsgate announced in a press release that it's currently in the early development stage of a Dead Island feature, with producers Sean Daniel (Tombstone, Dazed and Confused) and Stefan Sonnenfeld attached.

The press release mentions the game's first, Cannes-winning trailer will serve as the film's "primary creative inspiration," adding that the movie will adopt the commercial's "focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling." Also, it's a horror movie from Lionsgate, so we're betting you'll get to see the insides of hastily removed human body parts.
Continue reading Dead Island film optioned by Lionsgate, based on the trailer

Dead Island film optioned by Lionsgate, based on the trailer originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 27 Sep 2011 12:30:00 EST. If you're anxiously awaiting the next Paul W.S. Anderson Resident Evil joint, we've got to ask: "Why?" We can't imagine anyone is dying to see another one of these trainwrecks (in 3D again, no less!), but if you are, some new details on Bloody Disgusting may interest you. Milla Jovovich will reprise her role as Alice in the next film, which now has an official title: Resident Evil: Retribution. Her husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, will once again direct.

Resident Evil: Retribution currently has a tentative release date of September 14, 2012. Sienna Guillory, who played Jill Valentine in the second film (and made an appearance in the last movie), will return, she has said on Twitter -- though BD says that role is being recast. Also, according to BD, Barry Burton and Leon S. Kennedy will both make appearances in Retribution.

Not be confused with the ABC television series about a certain sword of truth, "Dawn of the Seeker" is the name of Funimation's upcoming Dragon Age anime. The company also unveiled the first artwork for the film, featuring the probable protagonist and a good supply of swords. She might even have a third arm to go with that.

Unfortunately, said swords are being drawn slower than expected, as the animated film has been moved from a 2011 release window to sometime in 2012. For now you can take a peek at what's already in progress via two trailers below.
Continue reading Dragon Age anime called 'Dawn of the Seeker,' pushed to 2012

Dragon Age anime called 'Dawn of the Seeker,' pushed to 2012 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 27 Jul 2011 12:30:00 EST. Director Neil Burger just so happened to be promoting the DVD release of his movie Limitless at Comic-Con last weekend, and though most of the folks who spoke with him were from movie media, Joystiq sneaked in to grill Burger about his next project: the in-development Uncharted film.

"I'm rewriting the script from scratch, starting like right now -- like we are just starting now," he said. "I love the game, it's great, and I think it's a great start for a movie, because the game is so cinematic," Burger added, before zeroing in on one object of cinematic admiration. "The character Nate in particular I like because he's this ballsy guy that lives by his wits, and who's capable of kind of anything and everything. He's fearless and he doesn't give a damn and he'll go after the thing. I dig that kind of character and it's a great character for a movie."

Mark Wahlberg was rumored to be playing Drake under previous director David O. Russell's oversight. Burger suggested that while both Wahlberg and Limitless star Bradley Cooper could probably both pull the role off in their own ways, the decision of who will wear the half-tuck and jeans is still distant. "Once you get to the end of the screenplay," he said, "you see who's available, who seems right, who's a new actor that's just breaking on that's not even on your radar right now."

Burger agreed there are plenty of good choices to go around, however: "There's a lot of actors who even look like Nathan Drake from the video game who could do it and who would be great for it, so we'll see." Burger wasn't aware of Nathan Fillion's run at the part, but we'll consider him officially back in the mix anyway.
Neil Burger hits restart on the Uncharted film originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 14:00:00 EST. The trailer for Assassin's Creed: Embers above sees returning protagonist Ezio pontificating on how he's run out of time to conduct his fatherly affairs. We're not sure why he's complaining, though -- he's got until the film (and Revelations!) drops on November 15 to do what needs to be done.
Assassins Creed: Embers trailer is out of time originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 25 Jul 2011 14:45:00 EST. We always knew there was more to Bomberman than his round, antennaed visage could possibly show. The Game Station -- the minds behind the equally revealing Brothers Mario machinima -- have lovingly crafted a live-action take on Hudson Soft's age-old franchise. Director Seth Gordon launched his first major film back in 2007, King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, and has since gone on to a successful career in directing several feature films and major television shows. He's even pinned to the forthcoming remake of '80s hacking classic, WarGames. His next move, however, could be a return to the documentary that launched his career, with Gordon telling The Playlist that he's still hard at work on a New Line Cinema-backed remake.

Bizarrely, said remake may actually take on a mockumentary feel. Gordon credits his recent television work as inspiration: "There's a few different avenues. I've done some work on 'Modern Family' and 'The Office' and have worked in this doc style, and so that inspired me to say, instead of doing a traditional narrative feature script, what if we did the remake in the doc style?"

Black List contestant Melissa Stack penned the most recent draft of the script, which Gordon takes as confirmation that the project is still "quite real." We can't imagine Billy Mitchell being too responsive to direction in Gordon's remake, but then again that tumultuous interaction could turn out to be a hilarious documentary unto itself.
King of Kong remake has a new script, penned as a mockumentary originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 11 Jul 2011 14:40:00 EST. Guys, we're just gonna be honest -- we kinda really love the MGM hacking classic, WarGames. Alongside Sneakers, it's right up there at the top of our list of best films about computers. And apparently it's getting a reboot from King of Kong director Seth Gordon.

Gordon took a break from documentaries since his 2010 adaptation of NYT bestseller Freakonomics, most recently directing a handful of NBC sitcoms (The Office, Community) and a feature film, Horrible Bosses. He's currently working on two other films, and his IMDB page has yet to even note the supposed reboot in his list of work.

Deadline claims to have gotten exclusive news about said reboot, though unfortunately few details are provided beyond the director and production studio. Lacking details aside, we're taking a wild guess that there'll be at least one joke referencing thermonuclear war.
Report: King of Kong director bringing back WarGames originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 24 Jun 2011 19:50:00 EST. The two-person team behind Indie Game: The Movie just released a new trailer for the increasingly epic project, featuring developers Team Meat, Phil Fish, and Jonathan Blow as they pour their lives into their games. If you want to see how a film can draw genuinely interesting visuals out of "people talking about making games," look no further than the trailer after the break.
Those visuals will also be accompanied by interesting sounds: filmmakers James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot announced today that Sword & Sworcery EP composer Jim Guthrie is creating the music for the film.

Now, in order to finish that movie, the duo has initiated a second Kickstarter campaign. Basically, they need to bring more people in: "We're looking for help with the finishing costs of the feature film (audio, colour, and mastering) in order to make this movie the best possible version of itself." Available rewards for helping them reach the $35,000 goal include digital, DVD, or extended Special Edition copies of Indie Game: The Movie, t-shirts, and credits in the film. Go help out! We want to see this movie!
Continue reading Indie Game: The Movie has new trailer, new music, and new Kickstarter

Indie Game: The Movie has new trailer, new music, and new Kickstarter originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 21 Jun 2011 13:00:00 EST. In a recent interview with Guardian, legendary actor Bob Hoskins went on record about the highlights of his prestigious cinematic career. In one section of the quickfire Q&A, Hoskins talked about one of his greatest film achievements to date:

"What is the worst job you've done?
Super Mario Brothers.

What has been your biggest disappointment?
Super Mario Brothers.

If you could edit your past, what would you change?
I wouldn't do Super Mario Brothers."

We're having trouble comprehending why Hoskins is so hostile towards Cinergi Pictures' 1993 blockbuster -- we think it set the bar for video game-to-movie adaptations. It just set that bar very, very low. Like, low enough for Street Fighter to hurdle over with grace and ease, which is saying something.
We knew it would only be a matter of time before one of Penny Arcade's imaginative one-offs got noticed by the cinematic powers that be. We might have placed our bets on The Lookouts or Automata -- as it so happens, though, the gaming comic's strip which caught the eye of Paramount Studios was "The New Kid," a one-page tale about a boy who's settling into his adolescent life on an orbiting starcraft.

Paramount, which was met with success with its utterly wonderful animated film Rango, has enlisted the help of Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta to adapt the strip to a full-length animated feature. We're excited to see what he comes up with -- and ever-hopeful that somebody somewhere gives some similar attention to Automata. Three photographs have surfaced of what appear to be a set from Takashi Miike's Ace Attorney film. According to Hachimaki, the sets are in Kyoto, where Miike was already reported to be shooting a movie.

If the sets are real, they point to an adaptation of the first Phoenix Wright game, as they are a perfect representation of the Gourd Lake location where that game's fourth case, "Turnabout Goodbyes," takes place -- which means we'll get to see a live-action representation of paranormal photographer Lotta Hart. That's exciting, right? It probably is to the amateur shutterbugs who captured these images.

Gallery: Ace Attorney film set

Rumor: Ace Attorney film set photographed originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 24 May 2011 15:55:00 EST. Speaking to reporters during the Cannes film festival, director Takashi Miike (Audition, Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai, and a million other things) announced his next film: "It is a very light comedy that I am filming now," as the Huffington Post quotes him, "a court drama, based on a video game, the Nintendo game DS." Warning: that Huffington Post interview is pretty much entirely about ritual suicide except for that brief quote.

HOLD IT! If we're reading this correctly, that means a high-profile, acclaimed film director is adapting the Ace Attorney series from the dual screens to the big screen. This is the best news ever for fans of overblown, overdressed arguments.

This isn't Miike's first game adaptation about people in brightly colored suits. In 2007, Miike directed a live-action film based on Yakuza.
Audition director Takashi Miike making Ace Attorney movie originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 23 May 2011 20:10:00 EST. Perhaps all that "playing" of your favorite Ubisoft games was getting tiresome? The French game publisher's film arm, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, told Variety this week that it's working to adapt three of Ubisoft's biggest properties -- Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon -- into "3D features," confirming speculative plans that appeared in a consumer survey last month. UMP head Jean-Julien Baronnet explained that his division "has been working with the games' producers and Ubisoft's marketing team to identify the DNA of each game and come up with storylines that are consistent." He also noted that the group's plans have garnered plenty of interest "from US studios and screenwriters."

Further, senior VP of international marketing and distribution Jean de Rivieres promises a script for at least one of the projects "by the end of the year." He and two other UMP execs will be taking a trip to Los Angeles next month in order to broker deals with studios and agents, Rivieres added.

In addition to the trio of feature projects, the studio is reportedly developing a 3D, CGI animated series based on the Rabbids property and named after the Raving Rabbids game series. It's said to comprise 78 episodes, at seven minutes apiece, and negotiations are apparently underway to distribute the series in France and the US.
The writing duo behind such films as Iron Man and the forthcoming Cowboys & Aliens have signed on to help pen the next Tomb Raider film, reports Deadline. Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are the two gentlemen who allegedly will be helping refresh Lara's life on the silver screen, with the piece noting that "a new adventure storyline" will be created for the film.

As previously reported, the rebooted film franchise is expected to launch in 2013, though no details have been provided as to the film's content, or whether franchise star Angelina Jolie will be reprising the role of Lara Croft. Fergus and Ostby's talent agency, CAA, had yet to respond to request for comment as of publishing.
Report: Writers hired for big-screen Tomb Raider reboot originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 05 May 2011 20:40:00 EST. So, the very first trailer for SyFy's upcoming original film, Red Faction: Origins is posted right after the jump. It seems like it might present a fairly true-to-its-source story to bridge the canonical gap between Red Faction: Guerrilla and Red Faction: Armageddon -- of course, we knew that before watching the following video.

What we didn't know was that the trailer would surpass the quality bar we set for the film in our mind's eye when the Volition/Syfy collaboration was first announced. However, seeing as how this is a SyFy Original movie which is also a video game adaptation, our expectations were that upon watching the film, our eyeballs would be instantly incinerated. We might -- might -- just be safe from that fate.
Continue reading Red Faction: Origins trailer defies our expectations

Red Faction: Origins trailer defies our expectations originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 02 May 2011 20:30:00 EST. Ubisoft's got its finger in a number of cinematic pies, including the founding of its own CGI studio and the acquisition of special effects company Hybride -- now, the publisher can add its very own film studio to its ... pie safe, we guess. Variety reports the company opened up a division named Ubisoft Motion Pictures in Paris, which will be headed by former EuropaCorp CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet, and will focus on adapting Ubisoft's franchises into films and TV shows.

You guys realize what this means, right? We mean, it's pretty obvious. Given the success of last year's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie, they're going to follow it up with a television miniseries based on Smurfs Dance Party. Like, duh.
Ubisoft launching film studio focused on game adaptations originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 02 May 2011 14:30:00 EST. The SyFy press site recently added a handful of production stills for its upcoming original film adaptation of the Red Faction franchise, posted in the gallery below. Did you know that, in addition to being composed of red rocks, Mars is also made out of frowns?
Continue reading Red Faction production stills look very, very surly

Red Faction production stills look very, very surly originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 25 Apr 2011 14:00:00 EST. After watching The Rock, who is also named Dwayne Johnson, fulfill his hosting duties during last night's Wrestlemania event by totally slamming dudes in the face, we were all probably possessed by the same thought: When's Doom 2 coming out?

Speaking to MTV, Mr. Rock explained he's not averse to doing another game-based movie "if the right one came along." "I thought we had an opportunity with Doom," he added. "Didn't work out the way we wanted it to, creatively." Let's look on the bright side: Spy Hunter didn't work out the way you wanted it to completely and entirely.

When asked what game he'd like to film-ify, in a perfect world, Mr. Rock replied, "Black Ops -- that'd be bad ass. Let's make it happen. Let's do it." He added, "That and Black Swan 2." Wait, wait -- what if we combined the two? Oh, man. Do you smell what The Rock is cooking? Cinematic gold.
The Rock talks Doom again, would do another game movie (like Black Ops) originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 04 Apr 2011 20:10:00 EST. It might seem strange to pair Silent Hill and Dragon Age fan film trailers in one post, but they just happen to share the same director, Leo Kei Angelos. Both projects are planned for release as complete short films later this year, and they already look impressive.

In fact, if the super, super creepy trailer is any indication, the Silent Hill inspired film, The Confined, just might turn out better than its full-length cinematic counterpart. Check out both trailers after the break.
Continue reading Watch these impressive Silent Hill and Dragon Age fan film trailers

Watch these impressive Silent Hill and Dragon Age fan film trailers originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 29 Mar 2011 22:30:00 EST. The countdown on FindMakarov.com has ended to reveal ... a fan film?

Self-funded "for fun," according to creative director Jeff Chan, of Toronto-based viral marketing company We Can Pretend, this live-action trailer is meant as an example of how Activision's Call of Duty game franchise could be expanded to film. "We definitely wouldn't wanna just call ourselves fans," said Chan, who would not say whether the filmmakers had talked to Activision about their project yet.

"We gave a statement on Friday," an Activision representative said in response to the trailer going live. "No further comment."

The "Find Makarov" trailer, which Chan compared to the live-action ODST short in spirit, was scripted by We Can Pretend design director Patrick Lo, who also created the website. David Fradkin produced the film, and Nir Zahavi directed the extensive viral marketing campaign. Visual effects were handled by Junction VFX, also based out of Toronto.

Chan declined to elaborate on the company's long-term intention. Watch the so-called "Live Action Modern Warfare" trailer after the break.
Continue reading FindMakarov.com is an unofficial Call of Duty film project

FindMakarov.com is an unofficial Call of Duty film project originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 02 Mar 2011 10:00:00 EST. Though there are plenty of jollies to be had from the uber-gory Dead Space Aftermath animated feature, we've got a powerful desire in our heart-of-hearts to lay eyes upon a live-action film set in the Dead Space universe. We're not the only ones. In a recent interview with BBC News, Visceral Games art director Ian Milham explained, "We would love to have a live action film and we've had a lot of discussion. But one of the reasons Dead Space still exists and is popular is because we've made sure to do everything right. So we're doing the same with the film, not just a cheap cash-in but to do something really worthwhile, so we'll see."

We appreciate how much thought you're putting into this -- an unprecedented amount of thought, you might say -- though, really, we can't think of an easier game to adapt to film. Here's our simple plan for how we're gonna make this work:

Give the rights to adapt the game over to the guys who make the Saw movies.

Book two tickets on the 10 o' clock money train to Cashtown.

Visceral: 'A lot of discussion' over live-action Dead Space film originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 28 Jan 2011 16:40:00 EST. Remember that super violent, Michael Jai White-fronted trailer for a Mortal Kombat film reboot that magically appeared on the internet last summer? Well, sadly, it failed to sell Warner Bros. on the prospect of turning the trailer into a full, proper film -- but that doesn't mean the project is totally dead. According to horror fan site Bloody Disgusting, director Kevin Tancharoen will begin filming a 10-part Mortal Kombat webisode series next month, following in the same gritty vein as last year's pilot.

Other than Jai White's continued involvement as Jax, Bloody Disgusting didn't mention many other details about the series' storyline. We'd usually like a little more reassurance than that; fortunately for these webisodes, the bar for Mortal Kombat-based pieces of cinema is unimaginably low. Like, low. We're talking subterranean, people.
Man, if you thought Dead Space was gory, wait until you see its next cartoon adaptation. Wanna hear something crazy? Guillermo del Toro's inSane game project is gonna be a trilogy. Of course, that lengthy proposal, as documented by THQ, will still be bound by reason -- at least, by the reasonable success of the "first chapter in the series," due in 2013. (Remember how that Too Human "trilogy" started ... and stalled?)

"With this new series of video games, I want to take players to a place they have never seen before, where every single action makes them question their own senses of morality and reality," said a confident del Toro as if narrating atop the mysterious and positively creepy teaser (embedded after the break). "THQ and Volition, Inc. are equally excited to make this vision of a completely new game universe into a reality."

Not only excited, THQ is heavily invested in what it's dubbed "an original trilogy of triple-A games." The publisher will retain the intellectual property rights to the inSane games, while del Toro holds the rights to any associated "filmed entertainment" projects. It sounds like our sanity could be tested. A lot.
Continue reading inSane trilogy game rights held by THQ, del Toro keeps movie rights

inSane trilogy game rights held by THQ, del Toro keeps movie rights originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 13 Dec 2010 11:55:00 EST. We're gonna deliver this news quickly, like the hasty removal of a Band-Aid: David O. Russell's Mark Wahlberg-fronted Uncharted film adaptation isn't off to an awesome start. After Wahlberg confirmed his involvement last week, Russell spoke to the LA Times about his vision for the film, saying:
"This idea really turns me on that there's a family that's a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities ... [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice ... We'll have the family dynamic, which we've done in a couple of movies now. And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That's a really cool idea to me."
Russell added that the pace at which the film's development is moving along is "a locomotive," and that he's already penned about half of the script -- meaning there's plenty of time to just like, sit back, spend some time with the two already very movie-like Uncharted games, and just like, reevaluate some stuff. Specifically, all of that stuff you said right there, about a family that doles out justice to museum owners. That whole ... part. Everything. All of it.

As a fun experiment, we added some other, totally made-up quotes about other film projects Mr. Russell (O'Russell?) might be interested in. We've frequently been addled with this thought: Why hasn't anyone made a movie starring Keith David and a dude dressed up like a hot dog, who wander around large metropolitan areas indiscriminately shooting vehicles, buildings and people with rocket launchers? That is a movie we'd pay well over the standard ticket price to see ... and we might soon have our chance! In a recent interview with Gamasutra, THQ CEO Brian Farrell revealed that the company will announce a Saint's Row movie sometime next month.

Though no details about the film were revealed, Farrell said the plan is to make sure the film and the next installment in the over-the-top crime series will release at the same time, saying "this builds our brand at no cost to us." Sure, it does -- unless the film is like, wicked bad. Like, Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever bad. Like, Alone in the Dark bad.
THQ: Saint's Row movie coming, will be announced next month originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 12 Nov 2010 18:40:00 EST. When Twisted Metal co-creator David Jaffe tweeted back in June about his interest in a "low-budget slasher movie" starring TM character Sweet Tooth, Blue Goggles Films took the idea and ran with it. The studio recently cut its first trailer for Twisted Metal: Home Sweet Home, and we checked in with both Jaffe and Blue Goggles to gauge the reception. "Fucking fantastic -- and yes, please quote me on that," was Jaffe's initial response. "Just great and totally the kind of thing I want to see happen with the character."

Blue Goggles, of course, had no idea what kind of response to expect upon the trailer's release. "We've lived in a bubble for the past month while we were making it and, while we thought the project was going to be cool, we didn't know if other people would," director Ben Moody told us. He confirmed the genesis of the idea, saying, "The whole concept for the trailer was directly inspired by Jaffe's quote/tweet about wanting a Sweet Tooth slasher movie for the PSN."

As for the project's future, both Jaffe and Blue Goggles would like to see Sony pick up the would-be feature (the film is currently planned as a free release since Blue Googles does not have the rights to commercially distribute it.). "This is what needs to happen: a straight-to-PSN Sweet Tooth slasher flick! Will it happen? I dunno -- but man I hope so!" Jaffe urged. "Either way, this fan film is really, really cool. What a neat thing to see. Whoever made it -- thank you! Great job that captures the low budget slasher flicks of the '80s that I hold so near and dear to my heart. Now let's just hope Sony jumps on board and we can get a whole feature out of it!"

Moody is equally enthusiastic, saying, "Since we've seen such a great response in just one day, we plan to get in touch with Jaffe and Sony to see if they are interested in making a full-on slasher movie starring Sweet Tooth for the PSN."

As of publishing, Sony had yet to respond to our request for comment.
Jaffe loves fan-made Twisted Metal movie, wants one on PSN originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 29 Oct 2010 18:00:00 EST.
