Square Enix had previously announced plans to release the port on iOS in March, but only in Japan, so the localized release comes as something of a surprise.<br /><br /><em>Final Fantasy 5</em> retails for $19.99 NZD, which is equivalent to $16.69 USD. Yeah, that seems a bit high, but Square Enix <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/26/square-enix-president-wada-to-step-down-106m-restructuring-l/">could use the money</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/27/final-fantasy-v-out-on-ios-in-new-zealand-today/">Final Fantasy V out on iOS in New Zealand today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Mar 2013 12:00:00 EST. Well, it's not news that should surprise given the previous four main FFs' appearance on smartphones, and especially given <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/21/final-fantasy-iv-ios-trailer-reveals-final-fantasy-v-plan/">this blatant tease</a> late last year, but hey.<br /><br />As <a href="http://app.famitsu.com/20130321_143479/">Famitsu</a> reports, a remake based on the GameBoy Advance version of the 1992 JRPG, with redesigned sprites, comes to iOS by the end of this month, with an Android release around the summertime. It's priced &yen;1,800, which is around $19. There's no word yet regards outside of Japan, but previous entries have had same-day worldwide releases. It's not unlikely we'll see <em>FFV</em> hit the App Store by the end of the month.<br /><br />When approached about a western release, a Square Enix representative told Joystiq, "We don't comment on rumor or speculation."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/20/final-fantasy-v-coming-to-ios-in-japan-this-month/">Final Fantasy V coming to iOS in Japan this month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Mar 2013 12:30:00 EST. If you, like us, have felt jilted as other territories received a glut of Square Enix RPGs while the U.S. got table scraps, it's time to relieve yourself of your worries. <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/11/03/announcing-square-enix%E2%80%99s-winter-of-rpgs-campaign/#utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PSBlog+%28PlayStation.Blog%29">PlayStation Blog</a> has just announced the "Winter of RPGs" campaign, which will see the release of three much-desired PSOne Classics on the PSN: <em>Chrono Cross</em>, <em>Final Fantasy 5</em> and <em>Final Fantasy 6</em>.<br />
<br />
You'll be able to grab the character-rich <em>Chrono Cross</em> next Tuesday, November 8, the career-oriented <em>Final Fantasy 5</em> on November 22, and the positively operatic <em>Final Fantasy 6</em> on December 6. It's nice that they'll finally be on there -- though forcing them to compete for our free time with <em>Skyrim</em>, <em>Batman: Arkham City</em>,<em> Uncharted 3</em> and <em>Assassin's Creed: Revelations</em> seems, well, kind of mean.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/chrono-cross-final-fantasy-5-and-6-all-coming-to-psn-in-coming/">Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy 5 and 6 all coming to PSN in coming weeks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Nov 2011 17:00:00 EST. After brutally taunting us by releasing the job-centric RPG in Japan and announcing it for Europe, an ESRB rating has revealed that Square Enix is bringing <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-v">Final Fantasy V</a></em> to the North American PSN. The game is something of an oddity for the series, having never made it to the U.S. in its native SNES format -- it only came stateside as part of the <em>Final Fantasy Anthology</em>, and as the expanded GBA title <em>Final Fantasy V Advance</em>.<br />
<br />
Between this, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/23/final-fantasy-6-rated-by-esrb-for-psp-and-ps3/"><em>Final Fantasy VI</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/22/chrono-trigger-rated-for-psp-and-ps3/"><em>Chrono Trigger</em></a>, we've got a lot of Square Enix PSOne Classics to look forward to -- now we just have to wait for the PlayStation Store to fling open its long-shuttered doors.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/28/final-fantasy-v-rated-by-esrb-for-north-american-psn-release/">Final Fantasy V rated by ESRB for North American PSN release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 28 May 2011 14:30:00 EST. PSN will see a re-release of a re-release of <em>Final Fantasy V</em> in Japan this week. Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/15/final-fantasy-v-announced-for-psone-classics-in-japan-of-cours/">announced</a> the PSOne Classics release -- compatible with PS3 and PSP -- of the PlayStation port of the Super Famicom RPG a couple of months ago, and revealed the April 6 release date today on <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/SQEX_MEMBERS_JP/status/54803919213305856">Twitter</a>.<br />
<br />
Square Enix Members then <a href="https://member.eu.square-enix.com/en/blogs/final-fantasy-v-coming-playstation-network">confirmed</a> that the downloadable RPG will be released in Europe as well, though the release date for Europe's battle against Exdeath is much less definite. Just when the U.S. was starting to approach parity with Japan in the arena of <em>Final Fantasy</em> titles on the PSOne Classics platform, we go and hear this: According to Andriasang, <em>Final Fantasy V</em> has been announced for PSN in Japan. The title is slated to launch this spring as a promotion for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dissidia-duodecim-final-fantasy"><em>DISSIDIA 012[duodecim] FINAL FANTASY</em></a>, which has a Japanese release date of March 3.<br />
<br />
The game will be the upgraded PSOne version of the SNES RPG, which received a standalone release in Japan but came to North America as part of the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-anthology">Final Fantasy Anthology</a></em>. Of course, it probably won't make the trip stateside this time around -- though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/01/sony-explains-the-discrepancy-in-ps1-content-between-regions/">Sony has explained</a> the reasons why PSOne Classics releases differ from country to country, it's clear that they <em>straight cold hate us</em>.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/15/final-fantasy-v-announced-for-psone-classics-in-japan-of-cours/">Final Fantasy V announced for PSOne Classics (in Japan, of course)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Feb 2011 23:00:00 EST. <em>Final Fantasy V</em> may not have the most recognizable soundtrack from the series, but we trust that OCRemix's five-part ... <em>remix</em> of the fifth game's score should wedge itself quite nicely in our brainpan. <a href="http://ff5.ocremix.org/">Click here</a> to download the first part of the <em>FFV</em> soundtrack compilation for free.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/10/ocremix-releases-first-part-of-five-part-final-fantasy-v-compila/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>OCRemix releases first part of five-part Final Fantasy V compilation</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/10/ocremix-releases-first-part-of-five-part-final-fantasy-v-compila/">OCRemix releases first part of five-part Final Fantasy V compilation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Sep 2010 18:40:00 EST. Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto was in the question-answering mood yesterday, <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/04/28/ffv_and_vi_technical_issues/">responding to a handful of queries</a> thrown his way via the <a href="http://twitter.com/SQEX_MEMBERS_JP">Square Enix Partners Twitter</a> account. After explaining to his curious followers that the company is "undecided" about downloadable ports of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seiken_Densetsu_3"><em>Seiken Densetsu 3</em></a> and mobile RPG <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/03/25/square_enix_ever_heart_odyssey/"><em>Ever Heart Odyssey</em></a>, Hashimoto addressed the possibility of DS remakes for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/final-fantasy-v"><em>Final Fantasy V</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/final-fantasy-vi"><em>VI</em></a>, stating (according to <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/04/28/ffv_and_vi_technical_issues/">Andriasang's translation</a>), "for <em>FF5</em> and <em>6</em>, there are technical issues as well, so at present these are also undecided." <br />
<br />
We're not quite sure what that means. The only technical issue we can see in this situation is that Square Enix could put the original versions of both games on a single DS cart, and we would still pay $40 for it, making us <em>technically</em> insane.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/28/square-enix-undecided-about-ff5-and-ff6-ds-remakes/">Square Enix undecided about FF5 and FF6 DS remakes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Apr 2010 12:30:00 EST. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_of_Final_Fantasy_V#Bartz">Bartz Klauser</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_of_Final_Fantasy_V#Exdeath">Exdeath</a> of <em>Final Fantasy V</em> are the latest characters confirmed for the Square Enix ensemble title <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dissdia"><em>Dissidia: Final Fantasy</em></a>, according to the latest edition of Shonen Jump Magazine. Like the other older <em>Final Fantasy</em> characters which were originally illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano, they have been reimagined by Tetsuya Nomura for the PSP-exclusive title. Now all we have left to wonder are the heroes of <em>Final Fantasy VI </em>and<em> VII</em> (most likely Terra and Cloud). Hopefully more is revealed at TGS -- needless to say, we'll keep you updated.<br /><br />[Thanks, Darryl!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/bartz-and-exdeath-of-final-fantasy-v-join-dissidia/">Bartz and Exdeath of Final Fantasy V join Dissidia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 09:00:00 EST.
