Xbox Support said the team would investigate the issue and release a fix soon. It appears that issue has been remedied.

The Xbox Live Status page has been updated, removing a mention of the issue and Microsoft has told Joystiq that, while there was a little issue, it has now been completely fixed. Still having issues? Let us know in the comments below.

[Thanks, Anthony!]
PSA: Microsoft says freezing issues associated with latest dash update have been fixed originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 28 Nov 2012 22:00:00 EST. The 1.8.2 Bug Fix Title Update doesn't have a release date yet, but it contains dozens of fixes and adds recipes for Golden Apples and Golden Pumpkin Seeds. Fixes include chest lids not working correctly, glass panes and iron fence hitbox problems, tools taking damage in creative mode, and many more. Hit the break for the complete list.

4J Studios provides more insight on its Twitter feed, adding that the Golden Apples and Pumpkin Seeds are crafted with gold ingot for now, but gold nuggets are on their way and the recipe will use those once they're in-game. Additionally, players will eventually be able to climb vines, and the next update will add villagers.

In other mining news, sales of Minecraft XBLA's Halloween Skin Pack (again, that sounds pretty gross) raised more than $500,000 in under two weeks for the four charities chosen by Mojang, 4J Studios and Microsoft Studios: Block by Block, SANDS Lothians, Child's Play and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Continue reading Minecraft XBLA bug extermination adds Golden Apples, Pumpkin Seeds

Minecraft XBLA bug extermination adds Golden Apples, Pumpkin Seeds originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 11 Nov 2012 12:00:00 EST. The exceedingly laggy network play pervasive in the Xbox 360 version of Persona 4 Arena has been corrected in record time. The corrective patch is currently live and players will be prompted to update the game as soon as they load P4A up on a Live-enabled Xbox.

Joystiq's preliminary testing indicates that the issue has indeed been solved, as all matches played synchronized quickly and were virtually indistinguishable from the game's offline framerate and performance. Unfortunately, this also means that we can no longer blame our devastating losses on performance issues.
Persona 4 Arena patched on 360, XBL problems eradicated originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 09 Aug 2012 14:00:00 EST. But now Polytron has posted that the patch is coming back, and it will not, repeat not, be fixing the issue where players may lose their save.

Why's that? It's a numbers game, says Polytron. The patch fixes multiple issues with the game (including framerating and loading problems, death loops, and more), and the save corruption issue affects less than one percent of players overall. Because sending out another patch to fix the first patch would cost Polytron "tens of thousands of dollars" to get the game re-certified by Microsoft, the patch is coming back, and any players thus affected by the save issue will just have to deal with it.

Polytron points to this as a major drawback with Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade service, in that the company charges exorbitant fees to developers to release even free updates and content. "Had Fez been released on Steam instead of XBLA," posts Polytron, "the game would have been fixed two weeks after release, at no cost to us." Does that mean a Steam version is in progress? "Only a few months left to our XBLA exclusivity!" says the company on Twitter.
Polytron bringing back Fez patch, won't fix save issues originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 18 Jul 2012 21:00:00 EST. Big Sandwich Games already promised us a patch was coming to fix Hoard's text size issue, but over on the official site, it's revealed even more goodies coming in the same update. In addition to the text size fix, there will be a new option to restart the game both on the pause menu and the game over screen, allowing players to more quickly replay a map rather than having to go back through the options. There will also be a persistent multiplayer lobby (so you won't have to invite friends after every match), and there's a brand new Hoard mode map included in the patch for free.

Big Sandwich also promises that DLC is forthcoming, but we don't get much more than a hint as to what it might be, or when either it or the patch might be out. Hoard is a good game hidden in an unfortunate UI (as we said in the review) and these fixes will definitely make some of the frustrations a little easier to deal with.
Hoard patch to include text fixes and free map, DLC on the way originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 17 Nov 2010 09:00:00 EST. With a regular software update framework in place, Nintendo would have no problem patching out a recently discovered, game-breaking bug in Metroid: Other M. Unfortunately, such a system doesn't really exist, leaving the company to adopt a more ... unique approach to solving the problem. Nintendo is asking people living in Japan who have experienced the bug to send the SD card or Wii console with their game save on it to its Kyoto-based service center.

We've contacted Nintendo of America to see if it's come up with a more practical -- or any -- approach to fixing the issue. As it stands right now, homebrewers had a fix ready to go about a week ago, and that's ... well, that's just silly.

Update: NoA has posted a detailed explanation of the issue on a support page where it describes how to both create and avoid the bug. If you mistakenly did the former (or were just plain curious), there are also instructions to "set up a repair" and send Nintendo your save file on an SD card. Hopefully, it won't have to travel all the way to Kyoto and back.
Nintendo offers impractical solution to Metroid: Other M bug in Japan originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 27 Sep 2010 13:15:00 EST. Are you sick and tired of all the freezing and crashing going on while you're freezing and smashing opponents in BioShock 2 multiplayer? We can't say that we blame you. Fortunately, 2K is rolling out patches for the all three -- Xbox 360, PS3 and PC -- versions of the game that should alleviate connectivity issues, as well as a few other miscellaneous snafus. The patches are currently "in the final stages of testing," meaning we should be seeing them fairly soon. Click past the jump to see the full list of changes for each platform.
We've apparently made it through the worst of the storm, friends. We've received a number of tips informing us that the internal clock bug that was affecting non-Slim PS3s for the past 24 hours has been fixed, rendering all games playable once more. We tempted fate shortly after receiving these reports by testing out a few of our PS3 Phat units and can confirm that they're running games just fine. Additionally, our "lost" Trophies appear to be properly re-synced to our PSN accounts.

The extent of the damage incurred during the bug-out is unknown, but will likely surface in the next few hours. No Joystiq staffers lost any of their hard-earned Trophy data, but we're an awfully small sample group for a problem that affected every living being on Earth.

Update: PlayStation Blog confirms that PSN service has been restored and all PS3 systems should be operating normally.
A new Modern Warfare 2 patch will be releasing tonight for the PS3 version. Once again, a number of exploits will be addressed, including:

Care Package, Emergency Airdrop, and Sentry Gun marker grenades sprint speed normalized

Fix for "infinite care package" exploit

Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry

Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s

Improved player collision removing cases of getting into geometry and "elevators"

Fixes to prevent various XP hacks

Unfortunately, the patch went live earlier in Europe, and broke a key feature of the game: being able to play online. Since then, the patch has been pulled, and is awaiting yet another fix. Once SCEA certification clears the patch, it will go live in both territories. An Xbox 360 version of the patch is also in the works, but there is currently "no ETA" on when it will go live.

We felt so bad for Borderlands' stealthy female protagonist, Lilith. While other characters' abilities were in perfect working order, her top-tier "Phase Strike" power was, well, broken. Enemies who experienced the attack began to make fun of Lilith, referring to the maligned ability as "Phase Wrist-Slap" or "Phase Hug," for which her cohorts constantly teased her.

Fret no more, dearest Lilith! Gearbox released a patch earlier today for the PS3 and 360 versions of Borderlands which, in addition to improving load times and fixing a number of small technical snafus (the full list of which are after the jump), also fixes your Phase Strike ability. Just make sure you savor the experience when you first use the renovated power -- the surprise on your combatant's face is going to be delectable.
Continue reading Borderlands console patches go live, Lilith gets some loving

Borderlands console patches go live, Lilith gets some loving originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 30 Oct 2009 11:45:00 EST. A recent Mass Effect forum thread has revealed that a sizable snafu has cropped up among the early adopters of the game's recently released (and still unannounced) Pinnacle Station DLC -- while players can download the intergalactic Fight Club scenario problem-free, the content isn't actually showing up in-game for some folks. Posters in this forum thread report that Pinnacle Station conflicts with the Bring Down The Sky DLC content that was bundled with the Platinum Hits version of Mass Effect.

Unfortunately, if you've played through Bring Down the Sky's added areas and missions, you can't load your game without having that DLC on the hard drive. This means that the only way for Platinum Hits players to reach Pinnacle Station is to delete their bundled Bring Down the Sky DLC, purchase it from the Marketplace for 400, and then reinstall it. As you can imagine, this has given rise to some unhappy feelings among afflicted players.

A BioWare rep responded to these complaints by saying the developer is working on a fix for the problem, but couldn't give an ETA as to when the fix would arrive. Royalty thieves living in North America have been enjoying relatively lag- and disconnection-free online multiplayer in Fat Princess for about a week now. If you were an early adopter of Fat Princess living in North America who was let down by the game's disconnection-prone online multiplayer, you may want to give it another shot -- Titan Studios recently released a patch for the title which is designed to improve server stability, reduce lag, and fix a few in-game bugs (such as broken hat machines and scoring exploits).

Fret not, European cake-feeders -- according to a recent blog post announcing the patch's release, the update will be coming to your fair continent next week. Until then, you can always spend your time playing the game's entertaining single-player offerings. Better yet, you can don a silly hat and start throwing cake at ladies in real life. We're sure they'd appreciate that.
Fat Princess online-fixing patch live in North America, coming to Europe next week originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 08 Aug 2009 14:00:00 EST. Have your days of extraterrestrial tower defending come to a screeching halt due to problems brought about by the latest patch for FluffyLogic's Savage Moon? The title's creators hear your cries -- producer Simon Livesey recently responded to complaints from players whose copies of the game have been rendered unplayable by the patch, and explained that the error is only hitting people who downloaded the trial version of the game, then later unlocked the full version.

FluffyLogic is hard at work to fix the game-wrecking bug -- fortunately, Livesey mentioned an easy workaround for the error: Simply delete the game, download the trial version again, and unlock it. There, see? That wasn't so bad. You can now return to your regularly scheduled insect-alien genocide.
Savage Moon producer responds to patching problems originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 07 Aug 2009 15:00:00 EST. WipEout HD has now been patched in order to fix the common game freezing problem among PSN users with over 50 friends. Currently this patch is available for the European version only, though we would expect it to go live in America very soon. The patch notes, which can be retrieved from within the game, state that your save file needs to be deleted after the patch has been installed for the fix to take affect. This means your lap times, team loyalties and other single-player stats and options will be lost.

Your trophies and leaderboard scores, however, won't be lost. If you've been sidestepping the issue by playing whilst signed out of the PSN, starting again is no doubt quite an annoyance. Don't get too upset, though, at least you can now play online with your friends. That's worth starting the campaign mode all over again, right?

[Thanks Stoo]
Euro WipEout HD patch fixes freezing for popular players originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 10 Oct 2008 12:00:00 EST. Unfortunately, a couple of NCAA Football 2009's newly implemented features (the EA Locker roster system and online dynasties) didn't work properly for a few unlucky players, occasionally erasing entire teams or failing to register online victories for a small percentage of gridiron gamers. Luckily, EA seems to be working diligently to recover from these costly fumbles.

According to EA spokesman Tyrone Miller, a patch to fix the EA Locker has been submitted to Microsoft and Sony for approval, and should be available to download during the first week of August. They've yet to announce any repairs to the online dynasties, though sports game blogger Pasta Padre reported that EA was able to fix his online dynasty after submitting his in-game issues to the company. Whether or not EA will make a similar fix downloadable for the rest of the bug-riddled masses remains to be seen.
EA Sports working on fixes for NCAA Football 2009 bugs originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 26 Jul 2008 18:30:00 EST. But that doesn't mean it's perfect, a fact that developer Criterion both admits and works to correct with a new patch that fixes many game-crashing and/or experience-altering bugs.

The problems fixed by the patch range from the urgent ("Some online race start points face the players in the wrong direction") to the goofy ("Surround sound fix - Centre speaker was 4dB louder") to the just plain weird ("Hammering the A (360) or X (PS3) after unlocking a car can cause the game to hang.") But only one listed bug truly made us sad: the one that caused "total time driven in player stats [to] stick at 145 hours." We can't help but feel sorry for those poor souls who spent over six whole days playing the game, only to have the game's statistics cruelly low-ball the amount of time they spent crashing virtual cars. Thankfully, because of this patch, their long national nightmare is over.

Burnout bugs begone! However, Wii owners can at least take some comfort in knowing that the problem will soon be fixed.

Activision's customer support has replied to many irate users with an email stating that re-mastered discs should be available by early 2008. This means that customers who buy the game after the re-mastered version is available should get the fixed copies, while those who already own the game can get replacement discs at no charge.

The last time we announced a disc swap for a glitched Wii game, many of you expressed your desires to have a simple downloadable patch instead. While we agree that a patch would be more convenient, we're still glad that there will be a fix available in the near future.

[Thanks, Langst!]
Activision to fix Guitar Hero sound issues with new disc originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 07 Dec 2007 17:00:00 EST. This will give some of your characters stat boosts, not to mention a few other nice perks.

For anyone who just rolled through PoR on easy mode in order to beat the game quickly and pump their characters full of bonus experience, however, Radiant Dawn will laugh at you and then slap you in the face for good measure. See, easy mode files don't transfer over to Radiant Dawn because (as you'll know if you've played the game), the word "easy" isn't in its vocabulary. Even if you try to transfer a normal or hard mode file while having any easy mode PoR files saved somewhere else on your card, Radiant Dawn will have none of that.

Christian from The Tanooki decided to contact Nintendo on the issue, and it seems that Nintendo will have a fix ready by mid-December. In order to get your disc repaired (or possibly get a completely new disc), you have to contact Nintendo about the issue, give them your name, address, and phone number, and then send your disc to them when prompted.

So, what lesson have we learned from all this? Well, that Fire Emblem is for badasses only, of course.
Fire Emblem transfer glitch to be fixed originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 23 Nov 2007 22:34:00 EST. It looks like Europeans (and Japanese PS3 owners) won't have to wait until November 22nd after all. A new post on the PlayStation.Blog by Naughty Dog's Christophe Balestra states that the Uncharted demo was never intended to be region locked. After discovering that it was, Balestra did his best to get it fixed for his fellow Europeans as quickly as possilble. The version available right now on the American PSN Store will now work on any PS3 in the world.

Frankly, we're delighted to see this issue fixed so quickly, even though there was no obligation for Naughty Dog to have the demo work on any PS3 - what with the EULA essentially restricting "false" accounts. Regardless, we're always happy to post good news and will be sending a huge "Thank you!" to Naughty Dog on belhalf of all of our non-American readers. So what are you waiting for? Go download the Uncharted demo!

[Thanks, elephant_stone & Kiddie!]
Uncharted demo now works worldwide originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 10 Nov 2007 08:45:00 EST. In all seriousness, Microsoft needs to publicly flog their hardware people. Microsoft now reports that they'll be offering a service to retrofit their official Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel following reports that the thing overheats and releases smoke. Unlike their refusal to say what's really wrong with the Xbox 360, Microsoft admits that a component in the wheel overheats when the AC/DC power adapter is used to power the wheel. Microsoft says you should contact them for the retrofit and not use the power adapter, but it's fine to just use the battery. They have also notified the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, no word yet on Microsoft Europe's plan.

"There have been no reported incidences of fire, personal injury or property damage resulting from the component failure in the wheel," Microsoft said in a statement. That's great, but it's definitely looking like the next iteration of the Xbox is going to have to scream engineering perfection for the sake of consumer confidence. Not only are the consoles going RRoD left and right, but now official peripherals are smoking. The next generation of Xbox is going to have to sell reliability above all else.
Microsoft fixing Xbox 360 smoking wheels originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 23 Aug 2007 09:58:00 EST. Let's say you're one of those who ended up with a bum 360 Guitar Hero II controller. Sure, you could return it like Red Octane suggested, but what's rock 'n' roll about letting the man care for you? Nothing, that's what. Luckily for those who rock on their own schedule, All About the Games has posted a purported fix that requires little more than opening your axe and loosening two uptight screws.

The site does state that the fix won't void your warranty, though we'll offer a reminder that you shouldn't operate on the guitar while it's plugged in. But come on, you rebels, isn't that exactly the sort of thing the man would want you to worry about? Are you going to wait for the man to pat your head and give you a lollipop or are you going to pull a Brian May and tear the fireplace out of the wall and get rocking?

[Thanks, Brigham]

[Update: Ruh roh. Still, no batch of hardware is without defect, and scattered reports from around the country bring several issues into the harsh light of reality.

The first issue, and perhaps most prevalent, is a recent WiiConnect24 update causing recurrent error codes for any and all online functionality. It only happens to a few, causing error codes 110213 and 32002 (how many errors can this thing have?). The solution? If you don't mind losing saved data (and most importantly, Virtual Console games, which are tied to a specific system), you can contact Nintendo and they'll send you a new unit within 3 to 4 business days. The other is a bit trickier; you'll have to contact Nintendo and have them send you a shipping label, with which you may send your Wii off to repair-land. This option will take at least two weeks, so it's best avoided.

Another problem seems to stem not from the Wii, but from the power supply and adapter. If you have a voltmeter handy (and you should!) you can check if the adapter if properly outputting power. If you believe this is the problem, there's a handy fix-it-yourself solution: while the Gamecube power supply doesn't quite fit into the Wii, you can make it fit. Here's some advice from reader Jay:

"I took a knife and bent out the plastic sides in order to get it to fit into the Wii. Make sure to put positive w/ positive and negative w/ negative, which is listed on the the back of the brick. But, if you're lazy, the flat (read: not round/circular) side goes in to side which has like and angled cut off piece. Well lo and behold, the red standby light turned on and the Wii worked! [By the way], the modded adapter sill works in the Gamecube, but you may have to tape it in to make sure it doesn't fall out."

Rock on, Jay. Are you guys having any other problems, and if so, do you have some possible solutions?

[Image courtesy of smashmywii.com, which, by the way, has their official video available for download.]

[Oh, and thanks Jay!]
Wii problems and solutions originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 21 Nov 2006 13:58:00 EST. Fortunately Carbonated Games tells us a fix is near. UNO Program Manager Richard Thames Rowan posted the following response to complaints on K1lla's Xbox Domain:

The UNO development team is aware of the problem that some people are having with matchmaking and has a fix going through certification right now. Hopefully, you'll see this roll out soon, so no need to email anyone.

Finally, ranked matches without a 20 minute wait. There can be only one.
Uno matchmaking fix on the way originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 10 Jun 2006 16:00:00 EST.
