Futuremark Games was founded in 2008 and is based in Finland alongside Rovio, which may explain why Rovio chose to acquire this particular smaller studio over your own basement operation in Florida. Maybe.<br /><br />"They are an incredibly talented and experienced team, and we are thrilled to have them on board," Rovio Entertainment CEO Mikael Hed said. "Rovio's success is founded on the excellence of our team, and Futuremark Games Studio is going to be a superb addition."<br /><br />That might also be why Rovio chose Futuremark Games, but if it helps just keep telling yourself that this is a classic case of nationalism.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/27/rovio-buys-fellow-finn-futuremark-games-studio/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rovio buys fellow Finns Futuremark Games Studio</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/27/rovio-buys-fellow-finn-futuremark-games-studio/">Rovio buys fellow Finns Futuremark Games Studio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Mar 2012 16:30:00 EST. Independently-developed FPS <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shattered-horizon"><em>Shattered Horizon</em></a> isn't the most high profile action game <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/18110/">on the market</a> right now, but it's got two things going for it which we're betting will capture your attention. The first is that until 4 p.m. EST tomorrow, you can download and play the game <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/news/3469/">for free over Steam</a>. It requires DirectX10 and Windows Vista or 7 to play -- but if you've got the tech specs to run the game, you can give it a free trial run until tomorrow afternoon.<br />
<br />
Oh, the other thing? It's a first-person shooter that takes place in the zero-gravity environs <em>of the moon</em>. If a cooler premise for a game exists, we've yet to hear it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/20/shattered-horizon-is-free-to-play-this-weekend-on-steam/">Shattered Horizon is free to play this weekend on Steam</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 20 Feb 2010 11:30:00 EST. "The high-end mobile devices, especially those with hardware graphics association, are comparable in performance to maybe a DS, and the next generation are going to be comparable maybe to PSP."<br /><br />The upcoming generation of mobile phones will be amazing. At DigitalLife, nVidia showed off some impressive phone technology which can produce some amazing graphics, as pictured above in Futuremark's <a href="http://www.futuremark.com/products/3dmarkmobile06/screenshots/">mobile version</a> of 3DMark. With phones already being able to take photos, watch videos, and stream music, it won't be long before the PSP's amazing feature set can be completely replicated on a phone. No wonder Sony's working so hard on a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/05/calling-all-psps/">PlayStation phone</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=20578">GI.biz</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/27/next-gen-phones-to-be-like-psp/">Next-gen phones to be like PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Oct 2006 14:30:00 EST.
