Lodsys is well known for its patent battles, previously filing suits against a number of smaller iOS developers, which forced Apple to get involved to say that it had already licensed Lodsys' patents and any other claims were superfluous. That case is scheduled to go to trial later this year.<br /><br />The new lawsuits all name one specific title from each company: Gameloft is targeted for the in-app purchases in <em>Real Soccer 2012</em>, and Disney's suit mentions <em>Where's My Water?</em> [pictured]. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has also <a href="https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2013/04/app-developers-lodsys-back">posted about the lawsuits</a>, calling Lodsys a "patent troll" and asking for legal help to fight the company.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/08/patent-troll-lodsys-sues-gameloft-disney-and-more-for-using-in/">Patent troll Lodsys sues Gameloft, Disney and more for using in-app purchases</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Apr 2013 20:30:00 EST. Gameloft has formed a partnership with Hasbro to make <em>My Little Pony</em> games for mobile platforms including iOS and Android.<br /><br />Gameloft hasn't detailed the game, but Hasbro did provide some corporate boilerplate if that helps: "Creating highly inventive and accessible digital play experiences based on our world-class brands continues to be at the core of Hasbro's mission and we envision Gameloft to be a key player in the ongoing execution of that global strategy," said Hasbro SVP of Digital Media and Marketing Mark Blecher.<br /><br />Along with My Little Pony, Gameloft will be creating games based on <em>Littlest Pet Shop</em>, which is even <em>littler</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/22/gameloft-bringing-my-little-pony-game-to-mobile-platforms-this-y/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gameloft bringing My Little Pony game to mobile platforms this year</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/22/gameloft-bringing-my-little-pony-game-to-mobile-platforms-this-y/">Gameloft bringing My Little Pony game to mobile platforms this year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jun 2012 02:15:00 EST. The title is being developed by Ubisoft and GREE. In the same breath, GREE is teaming up with Gameloft on <em>Gang Domination,</em> which will be available on various smartphone devices this coming June.<br /><br />So, what's GREE? Beyond being a company <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/17/tour-grees-massive-tgs-booth/">with way too much money</a>, it's a mobile publisher/platform that's huge in Japan and is moving into the global marketplace, launching the GREE Platform in the second quarter of 2012. The company bought mobile social network OpenFeint last year and has offices in Tokyo, San Francisco, London, Beijing, Sao Paulo and Dubai. The company states: "GREE will continue to aggressively expand worldwide."<br /><br />"GREE will continue to focus on building relationships with third party game developers and publishers as it moves towards releasing its new platform."<br /><br />So, if GREE wasn't on your radar before, it appears to be a company you're going to be hearing about a lot in the near future.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/22/new-assassins-creed-game-gamelofts-gang-domination-coming-t/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Assassin's Creed game, Gameloft's 'Gang Domination' coming to GREE platform</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/22/new-assassins-creed-game-gamelofts-gang-domination-coming-t/">New Assassin's Creed game, Gameloft's 'Gang Domination' coming to GREE platform</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Feb 2012 15:15:00 EST. Former Gameloft Auckland head studio programmer Glenn Watson <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/former-gameloft-auckland-head-studio-programmer-calls-working-co/">alleged in July</a> that Gameloft pushed its employees to work 14-hour days, seven days a week, violating New Zealand's 2002 Health and Safety in Employment Act. The resulting investigation by the New Zealand Labour Department, covered by <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/39475/Gameloft-in-the-clear-after-120-hour-crunch-probe">Develop</a>, has now been closed after finding no substantial evidence of inappropriate crunch time or any breach of health and safety laws, and no legal action will be taken against Gameloft.<br />

This is good news for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Gameloft">mobile-game enthusiasts</a> -- and for Gameloft employees.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/14/gameloft-cleared-after-crunch-probe-ouch/">Gameloft cleared after 'crunch' probe (ouch)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 14 Jan 2012 03:00:00 EST. Most developers on the iOS and Android stores decided to put their titles on sale during the Christmas holiday, but not Gameloft. That rascally developer has announced it will have all of its Android catalog on sale <em>this</em> week instead, starting Thursday through January 5, for just 99 cents. From <a href="https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftM3HM&amp;feature=search_result"><em>Modern Combat 3</em></a> to <a href="https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftA6HP&amp;feature=search_result"><em>Asphalt 6: Adrenaline</em></a>, <em>Halo</em>-alike <a href="https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftN2HM&amp;feature=search_result"><em>N.O.V.A. 2 HD</em></a>, and <em>WoW</em>-alike <a href="https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftMMHM&amp;feature=search_result"><em>Order &amp; Chaos Online</em></a>, every Gameloft title for Android will be just a buck.<br />

High profile iOS developer (and, er, <em>taker of inspiration)</em> Gameloft probably thought players would be excited by its character action <em>homage</em> <em>Hero of Sparta 2</em> going free to play. And they were! They were very negatively excited.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, the iOS update to <em>Hero of Sparta 2</em> affected everyone who downloaded it, including those poor souls who had already paid for the game. That update introduced advertisements to support <em>Hero of Sparta 2</em>'s new free-to-play business model, which understandably annoyed paying players, and, by Gameloft's own admission, "deteriorated the gaming experience."<br />
<br />
Luckily for those paying players, Gameloft issued a formal apology <a href="http://www.facebook.com/gameloft?sk=wall" target="_blank">on their Facebook page</a>, blaming "the craziness of the Christmas period" and stating that "this game update didn't go through our usual quality assurance process." Gameloft also pushed out a new update removing all ads from the game, and has switched <em>Hero of Sparta 2</em> back to a paid app.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/22/gameloft-apologizes-over-unannounced-move-to-free-to-play-with-h/">Gameloft apologizes over unannounced move to free-to-play with Hero of Sparta 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Dec 2011 23:30:00 EST. Have you been using your single, otherwise useless dollar bills as handkerchiefs or dryer sheets? Cut that out. Not only is it illegal, it's pretty wasteful -- for instance, Gameloft will happily take those dollars in exchange for a few discounted iOS titles for a timely Halloween sale.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/26/gameloft-dresses-up-ios-titles-in-0-99-price-tags-for-halloween/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gameloft dresses up iOS titles in $0.99 price tags for Halloween sale</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/26/gameloft-dresses-up-ios-titles-in-0-99-price-tags-for-halloween/">Gameloft dresses up iOS titles in $0.99 price tags for Halloween sale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Oct 2011 02:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/25/gameloft-optimizing-titles-for-sony-tablets/" target="_self"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/sonytablets.jpg" style="width: 530px; height: 278px; " /></a></div>
Competition is healthy for a free-market economy, especially in the consumer electronics industry, and when a product quits being "the" product and becomes "a" product among many, it is ultimately the buyer who wins. At the moment, no consumer product is more the product than Apple's iPad, so much so that "iPad" is slowly becoming synonymous with "tablet," much in the way "iPod" became a synonym for "MP3 player."<br />
<br />
Countless Android tablets have failed to change the iPad's status from "the" thing to "a" thing, and while the majority of them suffer from a deadly combination of cheap construction and high prices, even incredibly well designed examples have failed to compete the wealth of tablet-optimized games available on the App Store.<br />
<br />
In an effort to circumvent this ecosystem-wide content drought, Sony has struck a deal with one of iOS' most prominent developers: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Gameloft">Gameloft</a>. The French development studio plans to release 5 titles for Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/31/sony-shares-price-and-details-on-playstation-certified-tablets-s/">Tablet P and Tablet S devices</a>: <em>Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD</em>, <em>NOVA 2: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance HD</em>, <em>Spider-Man: Total Mayhem HD</em>, <em>Real Soccer 2011 HD</em> and <em>Green Farm HD</em>.<br />
<br />
No word on pricing or availability, however Gameloft says that each game has been "optimized for, and will be directly accessible on Sony's upcoming tablets." The press release makes no mention of the Android Marketplace, however it also doesn't explicitly name the titles as Sony exclusives. Even so, people <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/02/gameloft-sales-up-15-in-first-half-of-2011/">love them</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/17/gameloft-surpasses-200-million-downloads-on-the-app-store/">some Gameloft games</a>, and tablet-optimized versions will only help intensify the competitive climate, regardless of whose tablets actually receive the titles. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/25/gameloft-optimizing-titles-for-sony-tablets/">Gameloft optimizing titles for Sony tablets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 25 Sep 2011 14:30:00 EST. <p>
	Gameloft is at it again, it seems. The copysmiths of the iOS world have come up with a western shooter much in the veign of Rockstar's incredibly successful <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/red-dead-redemption"><em>Read Dead Redemption</em></a>, titled <em>Bullet</em>. For those of you keeping score at home -- actually, how are you keeping score? Gameloft has "adapted" <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/wings-of-liberty-ripped-off-sewn-onto-gamelofts-starfront-col/">so</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/18/gameloft-brings-wow-like-order-and-chaos-online-to-ios/">many</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/gameloft-announces-nova-2-and-the-uncharted-inspired-shadow-guar/">games</a>!<br />
	<br />
	Regardless, its efforts have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/gameloft-boss-defends-company-clones/">proven successful</a> and we expect nothing less from <em>Bullet</em>. Apparently, Gameloft was uploading some trailers for the game, presumably for <em>Bullet</em>'s announcement, but had forgotten to turn on the "private video" function. A <a href="http://toucharcade.com/2011/08/26/gamelofts-upcoming-bullet-appears-to-be-their-take-on-red-dead-redemption/">Touch Arcade</a> reader caught the goof and the rest is, as they say, history.<br />
	<br />
	From the two thumbnails above, we can surmise that <em>Bullet</em> is a third-person shooter set in the old west. But until Gameloft officially announces the game, that's all we've got to go on. Well, that and the entirety of <em>Red Dead Redemption</em>. </p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/26/rumor-gamelofts-bullet-is-the-red-dead-redemption-your-phone/">Rumor: Gameloft's 'Bullet' is the Red Dead Redemption your phone's been waiting for</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Aug 2011 20:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gameloft/">Gameloft</a> believes all mobile platforms are created equally (as long as they work <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/former-gameloft-auckland-head-studio-programmer-calls-working-co/">14 hours a day, including weekends</a>) and is putting a stop to iOS release segregation, according to <a href="http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Multiformat/Gameloft+news/news.asp?c=32523">Pocket Gamer</a>. Gameloft plans to release all iOS titles universally, without special HD versions for iPad that can come out months after iPhone installments. In some cases Gameloft is bound by licensing to release a separate iPad version, but overall it will continue to release all games at the same time on both devices, a policy it began with April's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/order-and-chaos-online">Order and Chaos Online</a>.<br />
<br />
Gameloft's universal release policy could very well become the norm as developers tweak the finer aspects of iPad HD development, a prospect that makes our game-organization compulsions extremely pleased.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/21/gameloft-plans-to-make-all-ios-releases-universal/">Gameloft plans to make all iOS releases universal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 21 Aug 2011 20:30:00 EST. Gameloft is opening up a new studio in New Orleans, Louisiana, taking advantage of the state's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/12/louisiana-enhancing-its-tax-incentives-for-game-developers/">generous tax incentives</a>.<br />
<br />
"As it stands, we expect to employ an approximate 150 people in our New Orleans studio over the course of the next 10 years," Samir El Agili, general studio manager for the US and Latin America at Gameloft told Joystiq. "But with the fast pace and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/02/gameloft-sales-up-15-in-first-half-of-2011/">rapid expansion</a> of the handheld and downloadable market we will adjust that number accordingly should we find it necessary."<br />
<br />
The new studio will work on a diverse range of downloadable titles, across mobile, XBLA, PSN, Facebook and future connected consoles.<br />
<br />
Louisiana is doing its best to compete against states like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/29/report-ea-sports-opening-studio-in-austin-tx/">Texas</a> and countries like Canada (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/montreal">Montreal</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/toronto">Toronto</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Vancouver/">Vancouver</a>, et al) in attracting game talent. EA has already been wooed by the state, with a facility at Louisiana State University handling North American QA, which it will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/15/new-ea-facility-in-the-works-at-louisiana-state-university/">expand with a new building</a> that can accommodate over 600 employees in the near future.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/12/gameloft-opening-new-orleans-studio/">Gameloft opening New Orleans studio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Aug 2011 12:55:00 EST. Gameloft is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/17/gameloft-surpasses-200-million-downloads-on-the-app-store/">benefiting greatly</a> from the age of mobile gaming, with sales up significantly in the first half of 2011. The company's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/former-gameloft-auckland-head-studio-programmer-calls-working-co/">controversial working conditions</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/gameloft-boss-defends-company-clones/">ethically flexible game development</a> appear to be producing results, with sales up 15 percent to &euro;76.8 million ($108.8M).<br />
<br />
The publisher cited sales in emerging countries and the "massive success" of games on smartphones and tablets around the world for its prosperity. Gameloft's first-half sales on smartphones and tablets grew 55 percent year-over-year and represented 30 percent of sales; it plans to launch approximately 20 games for smartphones and tablets in the second half of the fiscal year. Gosh, we really need to crack the whip at Joystiq Publishing(R) China[TM] and get that <em>Angry Cocker Spaniel</em> catapult game out the door.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/02/gameloft-sales-up-15-in-first-half-of-2011/">Gameloft sales up 15% in first half of 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Aug 2011 19:40:00 EST. Encouraged by recent revelations regarding <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/25/former-team-bondi-employees-dish-on-l-a-noires-troubled-develo/">Team Bondi's working conditions</a> during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/LA-Noire"><em>L.A. Noire</em></a>'s production, former <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Gameloft">Gameloft</a> Auckland Head Studio Programmer Glenn Watson delivered his own testimonial during an <a href="http://games.on.net/article/13193/Trouble_at_Gameloft_Auckland_Developer_Blows_Whistle_on_120-Hour_Weeks_Dangerous_Conditions">interview with games.on.net</a>, claiming that the studio's work environment is "dangerous."<br />
<br />
According to Watson, Gameloft's senior management manufactured a constant sense of urgency among the studio's employees by creating false deadlines, which required employees to work 12- to 14-hour days, amassing hundreds of hours of unneeded overtime. Watson says he realized he needed to resign after "four consecutive weeks of fourteen-hour days - including weekends."<br />
<br />
The studio's employees are contractually required to work any "reasonable hours" requested of them, however the definition of "reasonable hours" can reportedly be changed by senior management at any time. Watson claims that these conditions constitute "fatigue working" under New Zealand's 2002 Health and Safety in Employment Act, and that Gameloft's employees are legally entitled to refuse the work, regardless of their contractual obligations. He also claims that the studio's poor performance has been the direct result of the staff's working conditions, and that the employees would be able to meet the same deadlines with fewer mistakes, if only given a chance to rest.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/former-gameloft-auckland-head-studio-programmer-calls-working-co/">Former Gameloft Auckland head studio programmer calls working conditions 'dangerous'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 00:30:00 EST. Since 2005, Louisiana has offered game developers and other software producers one of the most attractive deals in the US: the Digital Media Tax Credit, which affords applicable tech companies a 25 percent tax credit and 35 percent payroll tax credit. That deal is <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/35795/Louisiana_Enhances_Tax_Credits_For_Game_Developers.php?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+GamasutraNews+%28Gamasutra+News%29">getting even sweeter</a> in the coming months, as Governor Bobby Jindal has signed a bill which allows developers to take that credit in cold, hard cash, provided it's not all soaked up by their tax liability.<br />
<br />
Not many developers are taking advantage of the boot-shape state's hospitality, though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/15/new-ea-facility-in-the-works-at-louisiana-state-university/">EA's facility</a> on the LSU campus is sure to benefit from the expansion, as will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/gameloft-looking-to-open-new-orleans-studio/">Gameloft's</a> soon-to-be-opened New Orleans studio.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/12/louisiana-enhancing-its-tax-incentives-for-game-developers/">Louisiana enhancing its tax incentives for game developers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Jul 2011 01:30:00 EST. If you're a publisher of games for iOS devices and you've reached 200 million downloads, does Steve Jobs show up at your office and give you a hearty handshake? <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gameloft">Gameloft</a> would know.<br />
<br />
The publisher and developer of mobile games can openly celebrate that feat, having just sold its 200 millionth game on the App store -- and currently has 20 more iOS games in development for 2011. Titles such as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/gameloft-announces-nova-2-and-the-uncharted-inspired-shadow-guar/">the <em>N.O.V.A.</em> series</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/modern-combat-domination"><em>Modern Combat</em></a> and <em>Asphalt</em> are mentioned as having the greatest success in the App store in the release accompanying the news of this <em>lofty</em> achievement.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/17/gameloft-surpasses-200-million-downloads-on-the-app-store/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gameloft surpasses 200 million downloads on the App Store</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/17/gameloft-surpasses-200-million-downloads-on-the-app-store/">Gameloft surpasses 200 million downloads on the App Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Jun 2011 05:14:00 EST. Though much of the future of Sony's Xperia Play smartphone/gaming system still remains shrouded in mystery and indecision, the system's upcoming software catalog was announced by Sony Ericsson earlier today. The announcement was predictably <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/minecraft"><em>Minecraft</em></a>-centric (check out some new gameplay footage after the jump!), but there's a few notable newcomers in the list -- namely, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/battlefield-bad-company-2"><em>Battlefield Bad Company 2</em></a> from EA and <em>Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Shadow Vanguard</em> from Gameloft.<br />
<br />
Check out the full list of exclusive titles and Android ports that are headed to the Xperia Play after the jump! We'll try to get our hands on as many of them as we can at E3 next week, though, knowing us, we'll probably just start playing <em>Minecraft</em> the first day we get there, and then look up, and -- oops! -- E3's over.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/battlefield-bad-company-2-rainbow-six-and-more-announced-for-x/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Rainbow Six and more announced for Xperia Play</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/battlefield-bad-company-2-rainbow-six-and-more-announced-for-x/">Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Rainbow Six and more announced for Xperia Play</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Jun 2011 21:00:00 EST. Likely looking to leverage <a href="http://www.ldgi.biz/1/category/led/1.html">generous tax credits</a> offered by the state, mega-sized mobile developer/publisher <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Gameloft/">Gameloft</a> recently swamped a <a href="http://worknola.com/jobs/by/employer/803/Gameloft">New Orleans job board</a> with thirteen full-time positions.<br />
<br />
Contacted for comment, the company informed Joystiq: "Gameloft is currently recruiting in New Orleans for a variety of game development positions. We'll have more information about our exciting endeavors in New Orleans soon." Staffing site <a href="http://www.mary-margaret.com/playing-for-a-living/build-your-career-or-your-business-in-new-orleans/">Mary-Margaret.com</a> notes that Gameloft is the primary game company hiring for positions in New Orleans currently, "but there will be many more companies to come in the near future."<br />
<br />
Louisiana is definitely looking to get game developers and publishers down south. EA already has a presence at Louisiana State University handling North American QA, which it will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/15/new-ea-facility-in-the-works-at-louisiana-state-university/">expand with a new building</a> that can accommodate over 600 employees. Coupled with Gameloft's plans and the increased chatter Joystiq's hearing from other developers, it would seem that Louisiana is making a strong case to entice the gaming industry from going straight to Canada (read: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/montreal">Montreal</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/toronto">Toronto</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Vancouver/">Vancouver</a>, et al).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/gameloft-looking-to-open-new-orleans-studio/">Gameloft looking to open New Orleans studio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 May 2011 16:20:00 EST. Earlier this week, Gameloft revealed a new MMORPG intended for distribution on the iOS App Store -- a first for the French copycat developer. Not a first, however, is the game's concept and art style, which more or less directly ape Blizzard's behemoth, <a href="http://wow.joystiq.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>.<br />
<br />
As seen in the game's first trailer, <em>Order &amp; Chaos Online</em> pits the forces of Order against those of Chaos in a massive, multiplayer setting. The forces of both sides, it seems, are on vacation from Azeroth ... and they like vacationing somewhere very similar to home. Gameloft hasn't given its first mobile MMO a release date, but does say it's "coming soon" to the iPod Touch, iPad, and iPhone.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/18/gameloft-brings-wow-like-order-and-chaos-online-to-ios/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gameloft brings WoW-like 'Order and Chaos Online' to iOS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/18/gameloft-brings-wow-like-order-and-chaos-online-to-ios/">Gameloft brings WoW-like 'Order and Chaos Online' to iOS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Mar 2011 10:25:00 EST. An iOS version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=rainbow+six&amp;invocationType=wl-joystiq"><em>Rainbow Six</em></a> from Gameloft launched on the App store today, the first iOS entry in the series ever: <em>Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard</em>. The game is available to download for $6.99 and has a single-player campaign of 11 missions, online co-op support for up to three players, and a ten-player versus mode.<br />

In Gameloft's long-running series of ... <em>borrowed</em> game archetypes, we've yet to see a console dungeon crawler from the company. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dungeon-hunter"><em>Dungeon Hunter: Alliance</em></a>, however, the French developer is setting its <em>torch</em> to "<em>light</em>" and confronting the <em>diablos</em> of the darkness head on.<br />
<br />
The neverending search for loot begins this April on PSN, and features both online and offline co-op play -- Gameloft promises "30 levels with an immense world of dungeons, villages and forests to explore." Perhaps "Dungeon/Village/Forest Hunter: Alliance" would've been a more apt title. It's also got a certain <em>je ne sais quoi</em> to it, no? That one's <em>free</em>, Gameloft. The next one'll cost ya.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/10/dungeon-hunter-alliance-hacks-and-slashes-onto-psn-this-april/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dungeon Hunter: Alliance hacks and slashes onto PSN this April</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/10/dungeon-hunter-alliance-hacks-and-slashes-onto-psn-this-april/">Dungeon Hunter: Alliance hacks and slashes onto PSN this April</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Mar 2011 00:50:00 EST. Gameloft's getting cozy with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/unreal-engine-3">Unreal Engine 3</a>, as the company has <a href="http://www.gameloft.com/download-games/news/1489-gameloft-to-develop-four-new-games-using-unreal-engine-3---/">made known</a> its plans to develop four new, unannounced games (well, we guess they're kinda announced now) powered by Epic's development suite. It's all part of a "long-term" deal between Epic and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gameloft">Gameloft</a>, spanning multiple platforms. Two of these proposed titles will be available this year, while the other two are planned to drop in 2012.<br />
<br />
"Gameloft is very pleased to partner with Epic, especially with their ability to stay ahead of the curve and continually place the best game engine technology in developers' hands at any given point in time," said Julien Fournials, Gameloft VP of production, in what we could only assume was one long, <em>long</em> breath. "Using Unreal Engine 3 allows us to push game visuals with remarkable lighting and high-fidelity environments. We are confident that players will enjoy the games powered by Unreal Engine 3."<br />
<br />
Gameloft will release these games on "multiple mobile and downloadable" platforms, including iOS, Android, PlayStation Network and "set-top boxes."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/01/gameloft-developing-4-multiplatform-unreal-engine-games-for-ios/">Gameloft developing 4 multiplatform, Unreal Engine games for iOS, Android, PSN and set-top boxes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Mar 2011 02:00:00 EST. Need to load up your iPhone with fodder to occupy your dreary school days/work days/both? You should do so this weekend -- a ton of titles, including over 30 Gameloft titles and the super charming RPG <em>Battleheart</em> -- are discounted out the wazoo this weekend. We've heard plenty of numbers regarding Sony's Xperia Play launch games, but few details about what each of its 20 supporting publishers have planned. Gameloft has cleared the air and filled 10 of the potential <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/13/xperia-play-pre-loaded-with-legendary-ps1-game-will-launch-wi/">50 launch game spots</a>. Beyond <em>Asphalt 6: Adrenaline</em> and <em>Star Battalion</em>, you'll see <em>Assassin's Creed</em>, <em>UNO</em>, <em>Let's Golf! 2</em>, <em>Spider-Man: Total Mayhem</em>, <em>Modern Combat: Black Pegasus</em>, <em>Real Football 2011</em>, <em>Brothers in Arms 2</em> and <em>Splinter Cell: Conviction</em> at launch on March 29.<br />
<br />
Trailers for the two packed-in games, <em>Asphalt</em> and <em>Star Battalion</em> can be found after the break, both of which were briefly shown during Sony's (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-playstation-phone-now-has-a-commer/2">leaked</a>) Superbowl <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/06/xperia-play/">commercial</a>. Gameloft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/modern-combat-domination"><em>Modern Combat: Domination</em></a> draws some heavy inspiration from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/modern-warfare-2">another big FPS franchise</a>. And ironically, it's facing the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/17/ps3-hackers-make-modern-warfare-2-unplayable-infinity-ward-ca/">same problem</a> as its higher-profile counterpart. Available exclusively via the PSN, <em>Modern Combat</em> has been struggling against cheats and hacks almost immediately since its release -- "a result of the PS3 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ps3-hacking">jailbreak</a> situation," a Gameloft representative told us. A <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqHKx6u3jqs&amp;feature=player_embedded">YouTube video</a> demonstrates how the game "is going to get f***d hard," as the poster describes it.<br />
<br />
Cheaters are able to enable a few tricks, including smokeless smoke grenades, bullet tracing, the ability to walk through walls and even "God Mode."<br />
<br />
A new patch, coming in a few weeks, will attempt to rectify the situation by implementing "anti-hacking protection," in addition to other tweaks. "We are confident this fix will eliminate hacking and add to the player experience on <em>Modern Combat: Domination</em>," the rep added. "The anti-hacking pretty much means that people using a modified code (including cheaters) won't be able to access the game." A full list of changes can be found after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/09/gameloft-working-to-patch-hacked-modern-combat/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gameloft working to patch hacked Modern Combat</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/09/gameloft-working-to-patch-hacked-modern-combat/">Gameloft working to patch hacked Modern Combat</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Feb 2011 03:00:00 EST. We're all out of <em>flabbergast</em> over here. Sony Ericcson's still unannounced PlayStation-branded smartphone -- the "Xperia Play," or "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-phone">PlayStation Phone</a>" to us normal folks -- now appears in a commercial that found its way to YouTube. Beyond showing the (usually adorable) Android mascot having <em>human thumbs sewn onto its arms</em>, the advert depicts an unknown fighting game and two Gameloft titles.<br />
<br />
The two Gameloft titles -- a racing game and a space combat game -- look an awful lot like entries in the publisher's <em>Asphalt</em> and <em>Star Battalion</em> franchises. Check out the creepy commercial after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-playstation-phone-now-has-a-commer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sony Ericsson Xperia Play ('PlayStation Phone') now has a commercial</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-playstation-phone-now-has-a-commer/">Sony Ericsson Xperia Play ('PlayStation Phone') now has a commercial</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Feb 2011 10:39:00 EST. Is Gameloft's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2">Modern Warfare 2</a></em> clone for PSN any fun? We'll find out when it hits today; however, for now we can derive from this trailer that it costs $8, an amount Gameloft says is on par with bus tickets or a foot-long sandwich. It also supports <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move">PlayStation Move</a>.<br />
<br />
The game does, not the sandwich.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/18/modern-combat-domination-trailer-wants-you-to-know-the-game-cos/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Modern Combat: Domination trailer wants you to know the game costs $8</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/18/modern-combat-domination-trailer-wants-you-to-know-the-game-cos/">Modern Combat: Domination trailer wants you to know the game costs $8</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jan 2011 07:00:00 EST. Cloning is a hot-button topic, the ethics of which continue to be explored by legislatures, theologians and George Lucas. In the games world, one company is at the forefront of the science: Gameloft. Its experiments -- including the recent <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/06/shadow-guardian-preview/">Shadow Guardian</a></em>, a facsimile of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/uncharted-2-among-thieves">Uncharted 2</a> --</em> have been praised by some and reviled by others. Gameloft CEO Michel Guillemot says that's okay (and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/22/gameloft-sells-over-20-million-units-on-app-store/">sales numbers would agree</a>).<br />
<br />
"The video game industry has always played around a limited number of themes," Guillemot proposed in an interview with <a href="http://wireless.ign.com/articles/114/1143296p1.html">IGN</a>. "There is maybe one new idea a year." He further addressed Gameloft's detractors by saying, "The damaging thing is if you do a bad expression of a good idea." Hmmm ... We wonder if Guillemot was thinking about Capcom's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/11/capcom-mobile-rips-off-splosion-man-for-maxplosion/">MaXplosion</a></em> when he said that.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/gameloft-boss-defends-company-clones/">Gameloft boss defends company's clones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Jan 2011 21:40:00 EST. The App Store is in constant danger of new release bombardments, sure, but
<meta content="text/html;charset=UTF-8" http-equiv="Content-Type">many companies adhere to a regular, weekly bombing run beginning each Wednesday, through the wee hours of the night (UTC), dropping their new iPhone and iPad games on Apple's marketplace while many of us are snoozing. Last night was no exception -- actually, scratch that. It was <em>exceptional!</em><br />
<br />
Pending the start of the "iTunes Connect Holiday Shutdown" next Thursday -- a six-day lockout period when developers will be unable to release or update apps, including games -- an <em>army</em> of companies, armed with their big holiday releases (for little iDevices), launched a massive attack on the App Store last night. What began as a few <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/15/the-7th-guest-launches-on-app-store/">warning shots</a> yesterday grew into a full-on assault, led by Gameloft's crisp clones, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/nova-2"><em>NOVA 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/shadow-guardian/"><em>Shadow Guardian</em></a>, and Square Enix's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/15/lara-croft-and-the-guardian-of-light-exploring-idevices-tomorr/">surprise</a> (and <a href="http://toucharcade.com/2010/12/15/lara-croft-and-the-guardian-of-light-impressions/">apparently rushed</a>) port of <em>Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light</em>.<br />
<br />
Even Sega couldn't resist launching a few more classics in <em>Altered Beast</em> and <em>Sonic Spinball</em>. And what's this ... <em>Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3?</em> Hey, if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv,@iphone/"><em>Street Fighter IV</em> worked</a> ...<br />
<br />
Pursue our complete list of new release highlights after the break, and then make double-sure "Santa" knows you've been <em>good enough</em> for an iTunes gift card this year.</meta><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/16/new-games-flood-app-store-before-impending-holiday-release-freez/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New games flood App Store before impending holiday release freeze</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/16/new-games-flood-app-store-before-impending-holiday-release-freez/">New games flood App Store before impending holiday release freeze</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Dec 2010 15:00:00 EST. PlayStation Move owners looking to experience more motion-based gaming might want to consider <em>Modern Combat: Domination</em>, a new online multiplayer shooter -- with Move support -- coming to PSN in January. It's being developed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gameloft">Gameloft</a>, which probably explains the <em>unfortunately generic</em> name. <br />
<br />
There's a brief Gameloft-produced Q&amp;A about the game over on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/12/15/modern-combat-domination-producer-qa-playstation-move-support-confirmed/">PlayStation Blog</a>, discussing <em>Domination</em>'s map design and some of the other non-Move details. The developer is counting on a "far less expensive" price and a focus on realism to help push it above other first-person shooters on PS3.<br />

Things we learned this morning from GameLoft:<br />
<br />
<ol>
    <li><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/nova-2">NOVA 2</a></em>, a sequel to last year's iPhone FPS <em>NOVA</em>, will be released on the iTunes App Store on December 16 (that's this Thursday), in case you don't have your 2010 Halo Clones novelty calendar handy.</li>
    <li>"NOVA" is an acronym that stands for "Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance" (which is <em>totally different</em> from an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper or the First Encounter Assault Recon folks).</li>
</ol>
The game was also given a fully featured trailer (found after the break), with everything from vehicle combat to landspeeder chases. If it doesn't prove to you that these dudes are totally vanguards, we're not sure if anything will.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/14/nova-2-evolving-mobile-combat-on-dec-16/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NOVA 2 evolving mobile combat on Dec. 16</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/14/nova-2-evolving-mobile-combat-on-dec-16/">NOVA 2 evolving mobile combat on Dec. 16</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Dec 2010 16:40:00 EST. Ubisoft isn't quite done launching games in this, the year 2010 AD quite yet -- the publisher recently posted the iPad version of <em>Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles</em> to <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/app/assassins-creed-altairs-chronicles/id406153121">the App Store</a>. The game's description on the iTunes marketplace boasts an "iPad-optimized camera" and "impressive HD graphics," apparently remedying two of the biggest problems with the original, almost three-year-old DS version of the game. Man, it's practically a <em>retro throwback</em> at this point, isn't it?<br />
<br />
You can relive <em>Altair's Chronicles</em> for $9.99, which is much, much more cost efficient than exploring the dude's history using an Animus. We haven't checked the latest Sharper Image catalog, but we're pretty sure those things are <em>wicked</em> expensive.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/11/altairs-chronicles-leaps-through-the-air-stabs-ipad-app-store/">Altair's Chronicles leaps through the air, stabs iPad App Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 11 Dec 2010 16:00:00 EST. Welcome to <em>"Uncharted"</em> on iPhone. As with so many of Gameloft's games, <em>Shadow Guardian</em> sticks to the script of its inspiration. This is not a homage, but a clone, right down to the smart-mouthed protagonist, facing off against an army of mercenaries in a search for treasure.<br />
<br />
What <em>Shadow Guardian</em> lacks in originality, it makes up for in production values. This is one of the best looking games I've seen running on an iPhone 4, and it's undoubtedly one of the most complex as well. None of the fundamentals of <em>Uncharted's</em> gameplay has been sacrificed in the basic design's transition to a portable device: You'll be platforming, gunning and punching your way through some impressively large levels, with a fully-voiced story to boot.<br />
<br />
<em>Shadow Guardian's</em> platforming will be immediately recognizable to <em>Uncharted</em> players, offering the same skill-free approach to leaping and climbing around environments. Like Nathan Drake, the game's main character has super-human hand strength, and the virtual analog stick effectively guides his remarkable acrobatics, which "look" a lot more difficult to perform than in practice.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/shadow-guardian/">Shadow Guardian</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/shadow-guardian/#3637645"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/jsshadowguardianscreen1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/shadow-guardian/#3637646"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/jsshadowguardianscreen3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/shadow-guardian/#3637647"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/jsshadowguardianscreen4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/shadow-guardian/#3637648"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/jsshadowguardianscreen5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/06/shadow-guardian-preview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shadow Guardian preview: Among thieves</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/06/shadow-guardian-preview/">Shadow Guardian preview: Among thieves</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Dec 2010 16:18:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Gameloft/">Gameloft</a> is having a <a href="http://blog.gameloft.com/index.php/2010/11/29/twitter-advent-calendar/">Twitter Advent event</a>, with an e-chocolate based piece of information or free game every day up until December 24. The free games will be available globally (unless specified) for iOS and Android devices, with "a little bit more in the end."<br />
<br />
All you have to do is follow <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/gameloft">@Gameloft</a> on Twitter to partake in the goodies. Yesterday's treat was <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/app/driver/id343583887?mt=8"><em>Driver</em></a> for free, today was a sneak peek at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/wings-of-liberty-ripped-off-sewn-onto-gamelofts-starfront-col/"><em>StarFront: Collision</em></a>. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gameloft">Gameloft</a> has announced a "new" RTS for iOS. Entitled <em>StarFront: Collision</em>, the game bares a striking resemblance to <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/starcraft-ii-wings-of-liberty"><em>StarCraft</em></a>. For one, it features three races: A human mining group known as the Consortium, a bug-like alien race called the Myriad and a race of sentient robots referred to as the Wardens. And these three factions, you see, they're all embroiled in a battle to obtain a precious mineral known as (wait for it) Xenodium. There's also a gruff hero named Tim Gaynor and his elite psychic operative friend, Kara Serrigan. Okay, we made that last one up, but you get the picture.<br />
<br />
<em>StarFront: Collision</em> will feature online or local multiplayer for four players as well as a campaign with 20 missions. More details on the game, including its price, will be revealed "soon." Check out the first trailer after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/wings-of-liberty-ripped-off-sewn-onto-gamelofts-starfront-col/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wings of Liberty ripped off, sewn onto Gameloft's StarFront: Collision</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/wings-of-liberty-ripped-off-sewn-onto-gamelofts-starfront-col/">Wings of Liberty ripped off, sewn onto Gameloft's StarFront: Collision</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Dec 2010 16:05:00 EST. Mobile games publisher <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gameloft">Gameloft</a> is showing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/29/gameloft-q2-sales-up-15-thanks-apple/">no signs</a> of slowing down. The company announced its upcoming slate of iOS games at a press conference in Paris today, including sequels to some of the company's most successful properties, such as <em>Asphalt 6: Adrenaline</em> and <em>NOVA 2</em>, a follow-up to the company's <em>Halo</em>-inspired portable FPS. <em>NOVA 2</em> adds new weapons and new enemies (with jetpacks!) and will offer multiplayer. Not only does it continue the story of the first game, but will reward players of the original with bonus XP.<br />
<br />
Perhaps of most interesting title was Gameloft's new IP, <em>Shadow Guardian</em> (pictured above). In typical Gameloft fashion, <em>Shadow Guardian</em> bears more than a little resemblance to other popular console games, notably <em>Uncharted</em> and <em>Tomb Raider:</em> You travel through a variety of locations, from temples to cities, climbing and leaping through the environment in search of treasure. In addition to the requisite puzzle-solving, you'll also be able to shoot your way through waves of enemies, taking cover, blind-firing, and rushing in for melee kills. Yes, you've seen all of this before -- but have you seen it running on an iPhone?<br />

The App Store has been <em>good</em> for mobile publisher Gameloft, as the company announced it's sold over 20 million games through the digital distribution network. The company claims that of the 47 iPhone and iPad games it launched this year, 42 reached the top five grossing list on the store, with 25 hitting number one. The publisher has released 100 games since the App Store launched in July of 2008.<br />
<br />
Although Gameloft didn't translate those unit figures into dollars (or Euros, as would be the case with the French company), the company's financials have shown significant increases over the past couple years. In <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/29/gameloft-q2-sales-up-15-thanks-apple/">July</a>, it reported an 11 percent rise in sales during the first half of 2010 compared to the prior year, and a whopping 113 percent increase on the App Store in the second quarter. So, yeah, Apple's been <em>very good</em> to Gameloft.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/22/gameloft-sells-over-20-million-units-on-app-store/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gameloft sells over 20 million units on App Store</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/22/gameloft-sells-over-20-million-units-on-app-store/">Gameloft sells over 20 million units on App Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Sep 2010 18:30:00 EST. Gameloft is porting yet another one of its iOS games to the PS3 for release on PlayStation Network. <em>Dungeon Hunter</em>, a classic hack-and-slash adventure is getting an HD remake exclusively for Sony's console. According to <a href="http://www.gamerbytes.com/2010/09/gamelofts_dungeon_hunter_sees.php">GamerBytes</a>, the PS3 version features a "dramatic artistic makeover" over the iPhone original, inviting comparisons to <em>Torchlight</em>.<br />
<br />
In addition to new visuals, the PS3 version of <em>Dungeon Hunter</em> will boast four player cooperative multiplayer, both online and off, making it one of Gameloft's most ambitious PSN games yet. Gameloft announced via <a href="http://www.facebook.com/gameloft">Facebook</a> that the game -- currently available on iPhone, iPad, Android and Palm Pre -- will soon be released as a PSN download for PSP. <a href="http://www.gamerbytes.com/2010/08/gamelofts_nova_coming_to_minis.php">Gamerbytes</a> speculates that the title will be released as a Mini, which means that, like all Minis, it won't have any kind of multiplayer functionality. The mobile version supports both online and local wireless play.<br />

<em>N.O.V.A.</em> is the story of a once-retired member of a military group dedicated to protecting "near-orbital" Earth colonies from aliens called "Judgers."
