<a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rawbots"><em>Rawbots</em></a> is a multiplayer game in which you build and program robots to battle other players in a sandbox arena. Designer Alex Rozgo and the <em>Rawbots</em> team is pitching <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rozgo/rawbots-multiplayer-sandbox">the game on Kickstarter</a>, where they're trying for $300,000 to deliver the product on the PC, Mac, Linux, Wii U, and <a href="https://twitter.com/rozgo/status/320311412192866304">possibly</a> the PS4.<br />
<br />
 <em>Rawbots</em> intends to have various parts available for the making of your mechanical minions, which can then be traded with others using contracts and blueprints. The structure of the world is meant to combine different types of gameplay, enabling you to put together various levels designed for FPS or RTS-style interaction.<br />
<br />
So far, <em>Rawbots</em> has only picked up a few thousand dollars, but the project has over a month to go. It won't only give your tired body a moment of rest, but the tactics demonstrated could save your life in Big Robot's tweedpunk, procedural stealth game, <em>Sir, You Are Being Hunted</em>. It's a win-win, as far as "being hunted" goes.<br /><br />This is the first video in a new series, and it demonstrates strategies behind fleeing, healing, hiding and, occasionally, shooting at the enemy AI. EA Tiburon is calling the engine the "Infinity Engine 2" specifically, which certainly drives the point home about its expected improvements. The developer told <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/4/3/4177270/ncaa-football-14-preview-gameplay">Polygon</a> that the engine will be tuned to the same level as its upcoming pro football game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/madden-nfl-25"><em>Madden 25</em></a>.<br /><br /><em>NCAA 14</em> will also include "ball carrier avoidance," which improves the AI of runners so they raise their arms to push off linemen instead of taking an awkward tackle in the backfield due to incidental contact, as seen quite often with the current iteration of the Infinity Engine in <em>Madden 13</em>. EA Tiburon says other physics-based movements will see marked improvement with <em>NCAA 14</em>'s Force Impact system. The Force Impact system is expected to lend more realism to the process of moves such as stiff arms, which will now be targeted to specific parts of a defender and carry out all the way to the ground.<br /><br />Other changes to the game include the removal of the sprint button, which is now replaced with a more realistic speed burst when runners hit the hole in the defensive line. Additionally, ball-carriers will be able to use the right stick to regain any balance lost when breaking tackles. The changes to the running game start with better block targeting for offensive line AI, which EA says is a priority for the <em>NCAA 14</em> team this year. An inside source who asked to remain anonymous told RPS the online servers are "not <a href="http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/03/12/simcity-server-not-necessary/">handling any of the computation</a> done to simulate the city you are playing."<br /><br />According to the source, the servers are coordinating social messages between cities in a region, as well as "cloud storage of save games, interfacing with Origin, and all of that. But for the game itself? No, they're not doing anything."<br /><br />Even when the servers go down, certain <a href="https://twitter.com/notch/status/311535572596432896">cities have stayed online and playable</a> for a period of time, suggesting off-site computation is not entangled in the main gameplay loop. The RPS source claims servers are also being used to repeatedly check for instances of hacking and cheating - and the game's verification messages to servers are creating queues and hampering responsiveness.<br /><br />Finally, the source casts doubt on EA's claims that a single-player version of this <em>SimCity</em> would be impossible to produce. "It wouldn't take very much engineering to give you a limited single-player game without all the nifty region stuff." In one encounter, a robot is dispatched by <em>a bear trap</em>. Izzy Sinclair, the hacking and healing main character, has a brand new look to her clothing, something that's a little more casual than the tactical gear she was wearing on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/12/meet-the-new-familiar-faces-of-fuses-overstrike-9-team/">the previous preview footage</a>.<br /><br />That's a change that came directly from player feedback, Insomniac's Ted Price told Joystiq yesterday, and he says there may be more coming. "We're continuing to tweak the game's look and colors," he suggested. Insomniac's fans have been very <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/12/ted-price-on-how-insomniacs-overstrike-became-fuse/">vocal about the change</a> from the game's original concept back <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/insomniac-unveils-overstrike-for-xbox-360-and-ps3/">when it was called <em>Overstrike</em></a>, and Price admits that "there are always going to be questions about our tone shift and that's just something we accept."<br /><br />But Price also says that despite the back and forth about the game's tone, the development team is also getting clear input about the gameplay itself. "The most gratifying feedback we have gotten recently, he says, "has been from our playtests, where we see both the press here and overseas and then occasionally consumers play the game. "<em>Luftrausers</em> is set to release on PC and Mac in late 2012," says newly announced publisher Devolver Digital. Devolver previously worked with Vlambeer on the <em>Serious Sam 3</em> spinoff game, "The Random Encounter."<br /><br />"But what's a Luftrauser?" you ask? Well, it's a fictional warplane created by the Vlambeer dudes, and it comes in a bunch of different varieties ("125 deadly combinations," says the PR). In practice, this means you spawn with a trio of settings for your plane and you've gotta survive as long as possible (while destroying enemy ships, planes, etc.). Mastering each combination and learning your favorite should help add plenty of depth to the basic spawn/shoot/die/respawn loop.<br /><br />In a few rounds I played during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gdc-europe-2012">GDC Europe</a>, it was quick to pick up and hard to put down. The concept of playing it with an actual gamepad makes <em>Luftrausers</em>' core gameplay all the more thrilling - I was playing on a laptop keyboard with WASD, which worked surprisingly well, but I'd prefer a pad. Moreover, the soundtrack is delightfully retro-sounding with modern influence - think 16-bit era midi with dubstep influence.<br /><br /><em>Luftrausers</em> arrives later this year on both PC and Mac, "with a price point set at $5,000." This morning, developer Cliffhanger Productions announced the game as coming to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ouya">Ouya</a>, as well as Linux-based systems. Cliffhanger co-founder Michael Paeck is all about the news, saying, "Adding these platforms will make Shadowrun an even better cross-platform experience!"<br /><br />Beyond allowing more players to get their Shadowrunning on, Paeck explains the cloud-based functionality that'll allow players to "play the game on your tablet, switch to your desktop PC, and then later enjoy it on your Ouya-connected TV - without ever having to switch your account or characters or suffer from restrictions based on your device!"<br /><br />Of course, <em>Shadowrun Online</em> is still well behind in its targeted <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1964352341/shadowrun-online">Kickstarter funding goal</a> wth less than two weeks remaining. Capcom (finally) confirmed as much to Famitsu, and released the video you see above of Ms. Wong in action. It seems her portion is only playable once all three other campaigns are finished.<br /><br />In addition to Wong's big reveal, a new mode dubbed "Agent Hunt" was announced, wherein players control either one of the game's four protagonists or one of two enemy characters (a B.O.W. or a J'avo, according to <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2012/08/01/resident-evil-6-video-shows-off-playable-ada-wong/">Siliconera</a>). We expect we'll see more Western-geared variants of these trailers in the not too distant future. Apparently it wasn't quite ready for prime time, as it was quickly taken down - but not quickly enough to keep it off YouTube.
