"I can't comment on our project, but all I can say is that the projects we've been working on for the last two years and the one we recently started up in NY are sailing along like never before," said Avalanche Studios founder Christofer Sundberg in <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-03-02-ex-god-of-war-director-joins-tomb-raider-developer">a statement to Eurogamer</a>.<br /><br />This either means that <em>Mad Max</em> is continuing without Barlog at Avalanche Studios, or that it was never there to begin with. Either way, we're looking forward to seeing what kind of vengeful, face-painting influence Barlog has on Lara Croft's future, and whether his presence at Crystal Dynamics could finally lead to <em>Gex of War</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/02/god-of-war-2-director-cory-barlog-joins-crystal-dynamics/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>God of War 2 director Cory Barlog joins Crystal Dynamics</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/02/god-of-war-2-director-cory-barlog-joins-crystal-dynamics/">God of War 2 director Cory Barlog joins Crystal Dynamics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Mar 2012 14:30:00 EST. It looks like <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/crystal-dynamics">Crystal Dynamics</a> is up to more than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tomb-raider-2012">Lara Croft's latest reboot</a>. Posting on the <a href="https://member.eu.square-enix.com/en/blogs/2012">Square Enix Members blog</a>, Crystal Dynamics community manager Meagan Marie revealed that, in addition to <em>Tomb Raider</em>, the company is also "hard at work preparing to reveal exciting new intellectual property to the world." Exactly what that property is remains a mystery, though studio head Darrell Gallagher promised that 2012 will be "the biggest year in Crystal's history" and that there are "amazing things" in store.<br />
<br />
The obvious question: Is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gex_(series)"><em>Gex</em></a> old enough to be considered new again?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/04/crystal-dynamics-has-new-ip-in-the-works/">Crystal Dynamics has new IP in the works</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Jan 2012 21:00:00 EST. PS3 owners don't have much to download, with <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/numblast"><em>Numblast</em></a> (pictured above) and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/military-madness"><em>Military Madness</em></a> the sole new games on PSN this week. For your retro thrills, <em>Gex</em> crawls out of the Not-Very-Popular-PS1-Mascots Archive. Make sure you get the free <em>LBP</em> birthday costume, and don't miss out on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trine"><em>Trine</em></a> demo (especially if you're on the fence!). PSP owners have a lot more to choose from with the addition of <em>Numblast</em>, <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/dissidia"><em>Dissidia</em></a>, <em>Ghostbusters</em> and a free <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/motorstorm-arctic-edge"><em>MotorStorm: Arctic Edge</em></a> demo.<br /> <br />

However, a <a href="http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobseekerx/viewjobrss.asp?cjid=18850&amp;accountno=61772#Details">job listing</a> posted on Gamasutra's job search site reveals that the company is still at work, bringing in at least one new hire for something big.<br /><br /><span style="font-size: 10pt;">"Crystal Dynamics has a rare opening for a Senior Art Director on one of the most prestigious AAA franchises in the industry," the listing <em>opens</em>. The obvious, exciting conclusion to be inferred from the fact that Crystal Dynamics is working on a new big-budget franchise game: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gex_(video_game_series)"><em>Gex</em></a> is coming back. We suppose there's also the remote possibility that it could be<em>Tomb Raider</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.developmag.com/news/32190/Downsized-Crystal-Dynamics-brought-back-to-life-with-AAA-project">Develop</a>]</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/16/crystal-dynamics-hiring-for-an-aaa-game/">Crystal Dynamics hiring for an 'AAA' game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Jun 2009 09:40:00 EST. There are not many developers who can boast having given rise to both a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legacy_Of_Kain">vampiric anti-hero</a> and an <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gex_%28series%29">anthropomorphic lizard</a>, but over the last three years San Francisco-based developer Crystal Dynamics has become more well known as the studio that single-handedly breathed new life into the dying franchise that was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tombraider"><span style="font-style: italic;">Tomb Raider</span></a> and its top-heavy icon <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/laracroft">Lara Croft</a>. <br />
<br />
2006's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/27/joystiq-review-tomb-raider-legend-xbox-360/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Tomb Raider: Legend</span></a> took the series that Core Design had unceremoniously driven into the ground and reminded us all why we fell in love with the franchise a decade prior. And for those still left unconvinced, Crystal Dynamics revisited the 1996 original a year later with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tombraideranniversary"><span style="font-style: italic;">Tomb Raider: Anniversary</span></a>, demonstrating that anything Core could do, they could do <span style="font-style: italic;">better</span>.<br />
<br />
Now the studio is at it again, this time taking Lara Croft on a new adventure in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tomb-raider-underworld/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Tomb Raider: Underworld</span></a>. Currently in development for multiple platforms, the game marks the <span style="font-style: italic;">eighth </span>outing for the series, and while the game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/sci-pulls-out-of-buyout-talks-stock-plunges-following-tomb-raid/">recently pushed out</a> from its previously expected third quarter 2008 release until the following quarter, creative director Eric Lindstrom told us that when it comes to this project -- "quality" is the team's ultimate deadline. We recently spoke with Lindstrom on the game, and he opened up to us about the project, how he feels it measures up to Naughty Dog's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/uncharted"><span style="font-style: italic;">Uncharted</span></a>, and why he finds next-gen development troubling.<br />
