Available today for 1440 Microsoft points (or a CD purchase) is new Metallica "Death Magnetic" DLC for Guitar Hero III which we're being told is both "deadly" and "magnetic". Who knew? For your 1440 points you'll get the entire album which is comprised of eleven tracks including two versions of the song"Suicide & Redemption".

Make your way to the Xbox Live Marketplace to grab the musical DLC goods or wait for it to release as Rock Band DLC. Wait a sec ... that probably isn't going to happen. Metallica fans, you'll just have to settle with GHIII.

The new Dragonforce three pack will be comprised of "Revolution Deathsquad" and "Operation Ground and Pound" which come from their Inhuman Rampage album as well as the song "Heroes of Our Time". The debut single from Dragonforce's upcoming Ultra Beatdown album. Now go begin your strumming finger exercises immediately, because you'll need all the strength you can muster up. Good old Acti just announced brand newish downloadable content for Guitar Hero III that's scheduled to hit the XBLM sometime tomorrow. The new DLC is called the "Interscope Track Pack" which we're labeling as "newish" DLC only because the three tracks were previously made available to those who purchased the Guitar Hero III album. Now, come this Thursday, the three GHIII tracks by Flyleaf, AFI and Marilyn Manson can be purchased for presumably 500 Microsoft points. Presumably, because that's what all the other GHIII track packs sell for and no pricing details have been announced for this latest track pack. Press release after the break, enjoy.

According to a post over Roadrunner Records' official website, the label which Dragonforce is currently signed under, there's brand new Dragonforce downloadable content planned for release to Guitar Hero III that will be making its way to the XBLM on Thursday, August 21st. The Dragonforce tracks to be included in the DLC track pack will be two classic songs from their Inhuman Rampage album "Operation Ground and Pound" and "Revolution Deathsquad" as well as "Heroes Of Our Time" which is the first single from their new Ultra Beatdown album. Get ready kids. You have less than a month to build up your strumming muscles for the torturous strumming onslaught that is Dragonforce.

Available for a 500 Microsoft point purchase off the Xbox Live Marketplace is a brand new and oh so challenging Guitar Hero III Virtuoso Track Pack comprised of three songs. The three tracks included are "Surfing with the Alien" by Joe Satriani, "For the Love of God" by Steve Vai and "Soothsayer" by Buckethead. Whether you don't yet own Guitar Hero III or just want to pick up another Les Paul guitar, you might find yourself shopping at Circuit City this week. The retailer is selling bundles of the game for the low price of $59.99, which is the same price (and even cheaper, depending on where you find it) as a standalone guitar.

If interested, you can either drive yourself over to a brick and mortar store or check out this deal online. It might be worth it to have an extra guitar for when Guitar Hero: World Tour rolls around, after all.

Continuing their downloadable content release frenzy, Guitar Hero III will be releasing another free download this Thursday, July 3rd, just in time to celebrate the Fourth of July.

This Thursday, available as free download off the Xbox Live Marketplace will be the "Top Gun Anthem" as GHIII downloadable content. An iconic 1980's anthem that single handily changed the world. No really, it changed the world! Though, we'll be the first to admit it is a bit repetitive and long, but we can't help but be uber excited to celebrate our Fourth of July festivities with a tribute to our Tom Cruise Maverick. Just as Entertainment Weekly promised, Activision recently sent word that music from Coldplay, including a track from their latest album Viva la Vida, will be making its way to the XBLM as Guitar Hero III downloadable content next Thursday, June 19th. The Coldplay DLC pack will consist of three tracks including their latest single "Violet Hill", their first ever hit "Yellow" and the single "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face". Even though Acti didn't make any mention of pricing, we expect you'll be able to grab this three pack for the standard GHIII DLC going rate of 500 Microsoft points. As previously reported, this month will see a flood of new Guitar Hero III DLC made available worldwide. We've already had the Isle of Wight pack and the Motorhead pack so far. Activision has now announced that the next collection of tracks to be made available will be the Coldplay pack. This will include a song from their new album and will be made available on June 19th.

The songs included in the Coldplay pack will be "Violet Hill," from the new album "Viva la Vida," along with earlier songs "Yellow" and "God Put A Smile Upon Your Face." This marks the third of five announced DLC packs for the month of June, with two more yet to be announced. We have to say, the Guitar Hero III DLC is definitely gathering steam. Shame it couldn't have been this good back in November, when the game first released.

The second of five sets of June's promised Guitar Hero III DLC just released today, bringing with it music from the Isle of Wight to a living room (or den) near you. Available for 500 Microsoft points off the XBLM is the new GHIII Isle of Wight Track Pack featuring the musical tracks "Problems" by The Sex Pistols, "Shoot the Runner" by Kasabian and "I Predict a Riot" by Kaiser Chiefs. And because we loved it so much last time, embedded above is an encore presentation of Kasabian's "Shoot the Runner" video. It's almost like a violent gun filled iPod commercial, no?

It's not often that we find great deals on big-name titles, especially two on the same day, but perhaps you were feeling lucky, punk, and the fickle game deal gods decided to reign their glory upon you.

Behind door number one, we have Super Smash Bros. Brawl for $48.99! Okay, we're just joshing you (not about the price, since it is marked down a dollar, but that's not what we're excited about). Here it is! It really happened! One accomplishment that we never thought we'd see get accomplished has been, well ... accomplished. Guitar Hero III's overly long "Through the Fire and Flames" track by Dragonforce has recently been played 100% perfect on expert difficulty with video proof to boot. Youtube account holder iamchris4life uploaded his nearly cyborg-like GHIII strumming performance and, what more can be said? It's "Through the Fire and Flames" played perfectly on expert. Just watch and be amazed.

Also, towards the end of this eight minute video there is some NSFW celebratory "holy sh*t" remarks and f-bombs, but really, can you blame him? Celebrate however you want iamchris4life, you crazy good GHIII expert you.

Big fat update this week. For starters, it's time for PS3 owners to jump in the pool and try out the Civilization Revolution demo. So far, our thoughts are positive, but conflicted. PC Civilization players will jump right in and notice some major changes, but will console gamers find joy in the methodical (yet incredibly streamlined) Civ gameplay?

Enough thinking, what about some twitch action? The free God of War theme for GH III is available today, along with the PSN's first game self-published by a developer, Novastrike. Also, storming out of left field is Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3. There's also a couple other nice additions in this week's update, so check it out after the break.

Piggybacking today's announcement of the new Guitar Hero III Motorhead DLC, Activision just sent word that they're planning to release five sets of GHIII DLC during the month of June with today's Motorhead Track Pack being the first.

They're keeping the lid firmly sealed regarding three of the five track packs, but did reveal that the second set of DLC will release next Thursday, June 12th and include music inspired by the Isle of Wight festival including "Shoot the Runner" by Kasabian (amazing video above), "I Predict a Riot" by Kaiser Chief and a freshly recorded version of "Anarchy in the U.K." "Problems" by The Sex Pistols. We expect to hear more about June's other three GHIII track packs in the weeks to come, but for now you can enjoy Motorhead and look forward to Isle of Wight inspired music next Thursday. Activision has announced today that Guitar Hero III will be receiving five downloadable track packs during the month of June. All of these will contain master tracks, but only two have been detailed, with the other three shrouded in mystery. The first song pack, which has been released today on the EU PSN Store and will no doubt be made available later today in America, is the Motorhead pack. This contains the songs "We Are the Road Crew," "Stay Clean" and "Motörhead."

The second pack will be made available on June 12th and will combine performances from the Isle of Wight 2007 and 2008 festivals into an aptly named "Isle of Wight" pack. This contains Kasabian's "Shoot The Runner," The Kaiser Chiefs' "I Predict A Riot" and The Sex Pistols' "Problems." A one-off free God of War II pack is also available today for free. With this, Activision is clearly really putting a lot of effort into downloadable content and, dare we say, giving Rock Band a run for its money. Well, not really, but it's pretty impressive nonetheless.

Continuing the flow of news about fresh XBLM content, we bring word that British heavy metal band Motorhead has just made its musical DLC debut, releasing three new Guitar Hero III tracks to the XBLM.

For 500 Microsoft points you can score GHIII's three song Motorhead Track Pack, featuring master recordings of "(We are) The Road Crew", "Stay Clean" and the one and only "Motorhead". Viva the 1970s! Now, if we could only figure out Motorhead's current band lineup we'd be all good to go. After all, we have to know which guitarist we're supposed to be imitating if we're expected to play their GHIII DLC ... right?

No new Wii games debuted last week; at least, none that ended up in the top thirty. There was one teensy weensy title that was introduced into the Japanese market, though. You may have heard of it: Guitar Hero III.

To put it bluntly, sales for the game were low. In fact, it didn't even make the top fifty in Media Create's charts, and Famitsu reports that the title only sold 1,300 copies. Compared to sales in other regions (like North America and Europe, for example), where Guitar Hero III performed fiercely, you can see that tastes often differ between western and eastern gamers.

Other than that, there's not to much to report about the software charts. Battalion Wars 2 managed to hang in the top ten, while Mario Kart Wii slipped into third place. Meanwhile, Smash Bros. Brawl might be in danger of falling out of the top thirty soon.

In hardware, the gap between the Wii and the PSP lessened as sales for Nintendo's console rose, while sales for Sony's handheld fell. Still, the PSP had a lead of about 15,000 units last week, keeping the Wii locked in its second place spot:

Guitar Hero III Mobile has sold over a million units according to publisher Hands-On Mobile, which had previously announced that the game had also seen over 7.5 million song downloads in under six months. Mobile phones are one thing, but we still have to wonder whether we'll see people playing Guitar Hero DS on the train in the morning.

As there's obviously a market for this title, we might as well mention that the June song pack for the game will feature "Stricken" by Disturbed, along with covers of "Talk Dirty to Me" by Poison and "Rock and Roll All Nite" by KISS. We want to try and understand why people download GH Mobile, but we just hope Phase is doing as well.

And here we thought getting a handful of people to watch you play Guitar Hero III was a pretty big feat. Turns out, in Earls Court, London, over 9,000 people turned out to watch two teenagers tear it up in the game. The two young lads introduced band 30 Seconds to Mars by laying down some hot licks on their fake guitars in Guitar Hero III.

This makes them Guiness Record holders now, something that we're quite jealous of, to be honest. Why? Well, because we've got ten years on them and have zero world records. Basically, it feels like we have wasted our lives.

You may have missed out on Amazon's Gold Box deals, but the online retailer is still selling Guitar Hero III for cheap. Sure, it's not as cheap, but it's $15 off the MSRP, nonetheless.

Since the Les Paul guitar will cost you $59.99 alone, buying the set for $74.99 isn't too bad of a deal. Also, it seems that Amazon is selling the fixed edition of the game, so you won't have to worry about mono sound issues or future disc swapping with your purchase.

It's been a while since we've heard any big Guitar Hero III news. The assault of Rock Band and its variety and scope of DLC shoved GHIII out of the limelight for many. Whether this new development is any sort of attempt to bring back the game's popularity or not, we can't help but think that this would do better in Rock Band. Basically, Def Leppard is going to be releasing its new single "Nine Lives" via GHIII before any retail or online release. The song will be available in a three song pack that will be online for download April 24th in the US and May 8th in the UK. The other two songs in the pack include "Rock of Ages" and "Photograph".

Those replacement discs and free guitar faceplates that Activision has been sending to jilted, mono-version buyers of Wii's Guitar Hero III are now enshrined in law. Gamespot is reporting that the publisher has officially settled the class-action lawsuit brought late last year by gamers who were angry over getting fewer sound channels than they were promised by the game's marketing and packaging.

The settlement stipulates that wronged parties will be able to get a replacement disc and a free faceplate through Aug. 31. It might not quite be the full profit stripping that the original suit sought, but we suppose it is something to have the replacement program enshrined in the law.

Activision has been dealing with the anger of Guitar Hero III owners, which culminated four months ago in a class action lawsuit. The plaintiff, Sam Livingston, filed the suit against Activision because of the company's "deceptive" conduct regarding the lack of Dolby Pro Logic II.

Instead of letting the case get to court, though, Activision decided to offer a settlement. The amount of cash that exchanged hands in the deal was not made public, but we bet a check will be more satisfying than a complimentary faceplate. Oh, and speaking of those? They were actually less of an act of kindness on Activision's part, and more of a required legal stipulation from the settlement.

Even though Activision probably lost a whole lot of pennies in order to settle, we're sure the company is happy that there's now one less lawsuit to worry about this year.

Nyko is now shipping to retailers its Rock Band/Guitar Hero III compatible Front Man wireless guitar for PS3. The third party controller is $60, which is the same price some retailers charge for first party controllers.

The Front Man guitar works up to 25 ft and allegedly gets 80 hours of play time, it also uses a "stomp box" to switch between the two rival rhythm games. It's great that the guitar is compatible with both games unlike the first party controllers, but isn't the whole point of a third party peripheral to be much less expensive than first party? Oh well, we had no complaints about the controller when we got some hands-on time with it at GDC. The Front Man seems like an alternative for those who need another ax quick and a first party controller isn't at the store .

Activision has made some mistakes with the Wii edition of Guitar Hero III, and it probably wasn't all too much fun for game owners to send in their discs and await fixed copies. The company, along with RedOctane, are trying to get back into people's good graces, though, by sending a free guitar faceplate to people who've replaced their discs.

We think this is a great move on Activision's part, especially since they didn't announce their good will publicly. It's nice that they're trying to compensate gamers for the inconvenience they've caused, considering they could have done nothing but fix the problem at hand -- that's what we call good customer service. From what we understand, the faceplates will arrive a few weeks after customers get their fixed editions.

So, what do you say, Guitar Hero owners? Will you forgive Activision, or will the company still be sleeping on the couch tonight?

Chris Chike, currently the Guinness world record holder for points in Guitar Hero III, won the Play N Trade GHIII tournament last weekend and bested his record-setting score. Chike's Guinness score was 870,647 (seen in video above) before he won the tournament, along with $2000 of in-store credit, with 889,256 points.

The best part of this story is that Chike actually drove two hours to compete at the Play N Trade store in Bloomington, Minnesota. Guess when you're the world record holder the trip seems worth it, considering you've probably got the win in the bag. Chike says he still hasn't done as well at any tournament event than he's done at home. The good thing about tournaments and competition is you only have to be better than second place.

That was quick. Only a week after Activision announced a Dropkick Murphys downloadable content pack for Guitar Hero III, it's already here. Then again, it's not like there was much time left before St. Patrick's Day (which is relevant because the Dropkick Murphys is a Celtic punk band, you see. Best of all, the content is absolutely free. Here's a reminder of what you'll find in the new DLC pack (all the tracks are master tracks):
Just remember, if anyone plays one of these songs without wearing any green, it is your legal right to pinch them. You should also remember that anyone playing Guitar Hero is automatically carrying a blunt weapon, so pinch at your own risk.

It looks like the rhythm game battle between Activision and Harmonix extends beyond the sales gap between Guitar Hero III and Rock Band, as Harmonix sued Activision on Monday. The suit was withdrawn on Tuesday as the threat of a legal battle was apparently enough to make Activision talk with the company. According to the lawsuit, Harmonix asserts that it is owed $14.5 million in unpaid royalties for the use of its technology in Guitar Hero III and further asserts that the company has not received any money for song downloads, in-game ads, and related products. Variety reports that the lawsuit was "clearly intended" to lay down a precedent for future iterations of the Guitar Hero series (of which there are many, many planned). Activision, for its part, claims that it has paid Harmonix "sufficient" royalties.
