Almost two years after it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/11/nes-ghosts-n-goblins-removed-from-virtual-console/">disappeared off the Virtual Console</a>, the NES version of <em>Ghosts 'n Goblins</em> will pop out of the grave again on the 3DS eShop. Capcom announced today the classic will return next Thursday, October 25.<br /><br />Although the NES version of <em>Ghosts 'n Goblins</em> isn't available on the Virtual Console, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/10/nintendoware-weekly-jelly-car-2-ghosts-n-goblins-exed-exes/">arcade version</a> of the game is for 800 Wii points. Placing your controller or 3DS in a soft shell to prevent breakage after being thrown is recommended in either case.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/17/nes-ghosts-n-goblins-on-3ds-eshop-next-week/">NES Ghosts 'n Goblins on 3DS eShop next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Oct 2012 21:00:00 EST. Arthur has bested demons, specters and all manner of otherworldly monsters, but now he's finally found an unbeatable foe: Erasure. No, we're not speaking about the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XH0SoZNdozs">greatest band of all time</a> -- we're speaking about actual, literal erasure. The NES version of <em>Ghosts 'N Goblins</em> has <a href="http://www.extraguy.com/2011/01/nes-version-of-ghostsn-goblins-removed-from-virtual-console/">mysteriously vanished</a> off of the Wii Virtual Console platform, leaving only the slightly more expensive, 800 Nintendo Point arcade version in its wake.<br />
<br />
Capcom hasn't formally explained why the NES version of the game disappeared, but it certainly <a href="http://www.nintendolife.com/forums/dsiware/missing_dsiware_catalog">isn't the first title</a> to vanish off of Nintendo's downloadable games services without warning or cause. Ironically enough, our best guess for the reason behind these disappearances involve both ghosts and goblins. We'll see if we can get something a little more official than that.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/11/nes-ghosts-n-goblins-removed-from-virtual-console/">NES Ghosts 'N Goblins removed from Virtual Console</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Jan 2011 14:10:00 EST. Bask in it, because even a single Virtual Console release is a rare event. This time, it's two of Capcom's announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/08/capcom-arcade-classics-confirmed-for-north-american-release-in-2/">arcade releases</a>, <em>Ghosts 'n Goblins</em> and the shmup <em>Exed Exes</em>. <br />
<br />
Additionally, WiiWare is host to Disney's <em>Jelly Car 2</em>, a build-it-yourself racing game with realistic physics and weird, jiggly cars.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/jelly-car-2-wiiware/">Jelly Car 2 (WiiWare)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/jelly-car-2-wiiware/#3767582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/i27210_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/jelly-car-2-wiiware/#3767585"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/i27211_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/jelly-car-2-wiiware/#3767588"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/i27212_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/jelly-car-2-wiiware/#3767591"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/i27213_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/jelly-car-2-wiiware/#3767594"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/i27214_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/10/nintendoware-weekly-jelly-car-2-ghosts-n-goblins-exed-exes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NintendoWare Weekly: Jelly Car 2, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Exed Exes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/10/nintendoware-weekly-jelly-car-2-ghosts-n-goblins-exed-exes/">NintendoWare Weekly: Jelly Car 2, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Exed Exes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Jan 2011 10:00:00 EST. Nintendo's small collection of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/virtual-console-arcade">Virtual Console Arcade</a> titles is about to get ... slightly less small. Capcom has this poster in their New York Comic-Con booth confirming the addition of six new arcade games to the North American Wii Shop in 2011.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/08/capcom-arcade-classics-confirmed-for-north-american-release-in-2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Capcom Arcade Classics confirmed for North American release in 2011</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/08/capcom-arcade-classics-confirmed-for-north-american-release-in-2/">Capcom Arcade Classics confirmed for North American release in 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Oct 2010 16:20:00 EST. <br />
<em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Tiger_(video_game)">Black Tiger</a> </em>(an early <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/12/final-fight-double-impact-almost-included-black-tiger-or-forgot/">candidate</a> for <em>Final Fight: Double Impact</em> inclusion), <em>Ghosts 'n Goblins</em> (which is already available on Virtual Console in its NES form) and <em>1942</em> will be released in Japan in the near future. Though no announcements have been made about these titles' releases outside of Japan, recent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/21/oflc-rates-capcoms-commando-and-exed-exes-likely-for-vc/">Australian ratings</a> show that Capcom is likely planning to launch some of its other Virtual Console Arcade games in additional territories.<br />

The lifebar from the PSP game will help, but even so we expect Arthur to spend most of the game in his boxers, as usual.<br /> <br /> One aspect that is definitely tuned to the iPhone: paid DLC. For 99 cents a pop, you can power up Arthur or Lancelot, get unlimited lives or unlimited access to magic, or even reduce the strength of enemies and eliminate magicians from the game.<br /> <br /> If you're feeling brave enough to take on the armies of Satan with just a touchscreen, Capcom is offering the game for $2.99 -- a discount of $2 -- until November 23.<br /> <br /> Ghosts 'n Goblins: Gold Knights ($2.99): <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ghostsn-goblins-gold-knights/id335708419?mt=8&amp;uo=6"><img width="61" height="15" border="0" src="http://ax.itunes.apple.com/images/badgeitunes61x15dark.gif" alt="GHOSTS'N GOBLINS GOLD KNIGHTS" /></a> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghosts-n-goblins-gold-knights-iphone/">Ghosts 'n Goblins: Gold Knights (iPhone)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghosts-n-goblins-gold-knights-iphone/#2443580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/icon_large_gng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghosts-n-goblins-gold-knights-iphone/#2443581"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/img1_gng_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghosts-n-goblins-gold-knights-iphone/#2443582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/img2_gng_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghosts-n-goblins-gold-knights-iphone/#2443583"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/img3_gng_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghosts-n-goblins-gold-knights-iphone/#2443584"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/img4_gng_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/11/ghosts-n-goblins-now-punishing-iphone-players/">Ghosts 'n Goblins now punishing iPhone players</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Nov 2009 11:50:00 EST. Capcom has revealed that its resident ghost and goblin slayer (and suspected <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Arrested_Development_characters#Tobias_F.C3.BCnke">never-nude</a>) Arthur is coming to the iPhone. During a presentation at TGS (via <a href="http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20090927_317938.html">GameWatch</a>) the company revealed a new <em>Ghosts 'n Goblins</em> -- which uses a touch-based control scheme not all that different from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/27/resident-evil-4-now-available-for-iphone/">the iPhone port of <em>Resident Evil 4</em></a> and overlays 3D models on top of the series' 2D gameplay. GameWatch also reports the title will allow players to choose between two different heroes: Arthur and Lancelot.<br /><br />The game is highly reminiscent of <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/Ultimate-Ghosts-And-Goblins/"><em>Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins</em></a>, a PSP game that also employed 3D models while retaining the classic 2D gameplay of the originals. There's no word on price or launch date, but we'll be sure to let you know as soon as it's announced.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://toucharcade.com/2009/09/28/tgs-2009-capcom-reveals-version-of-ghouls-n-ghosts-ghosts-n-goblins-for-iphone/">Touch Arcade</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/29/capcom-summoning-ghouls-n-ghosts-ghosts-n-goblins-for-iphone/">Capcom summoning Ghouls 'n Ghosts/Ghosts 'n Goblins for iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Sep 2009 13:24:00 EST. Nintendo restricting itself in this way could have gone tragically wrong -- they could have given us something terrible like <a href="http://www.nesplayer.com/reviews/fridaythe13thr.htm"><em>Friday the 13th</em></a>, for example -- but instead the results are ... really, really good.<br />

Normally we'd whoop unashamedly for <em>Ghosts 'N Goblins</em> alone, but <em>Castlevania III</em>, which is yet to be released on the U.S. <em>or</em> Japanese Virtual Consoles? And <em>Devil World</em>, which North America has also been waiting on (for almost a quarter of a century)? Yeah, we'll take those. Watch bone-chilling footage of all three past the break.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/castlevania-iii-draculas-curse/">Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/castlevania-iii-draculas-curse/#782305"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/c3vo013ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/castlevania-iii-draculas-curse/#782304"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/c3vo008ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/castlevania-iii-draculas-curse/#782303"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/c3vo009ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/castlevania-iii-draculas-curse/#782302"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/c3vo007ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/castlevania-iii-draculas-curse/#782301"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/c3vo014ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/vc-friday-a-huddle-of-halloween-horrors/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VC Friday: A huddle of Halloween horrors</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/vc-friday-a-huddle-of-halloween-horrors/">VC Friday: A huddle of Halloween horrors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 31 Oct 2008 11:45:00 EST. As predicted, the arrival of December the 10th on your calendar <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/02/december-10th-american-pokemans-get-shown/">coincides</a> with the release of <em>Pokemon Snap</em> on the Virtual Console. Of course, you all know about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/30/japan-oh-snap/">added feature</a> to the Virtual Console edition of the N64 game by now. Well, hopefully this opens up a whole new world of possible improvements to other Virtual Console games in the future.<br /><br />Today's Virtual Console releases are:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Pok&eacute;mon Snap</em> (Nintendo 64, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)</li>
    <li><em>Baseball Stars 2</em> (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points)</li>

And, as usual, be sure to stop back here later for our video wrap-up of the week's releases.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/10/vc-monday-madness-pokemon-snap-ghosts-n-goblins-and-baseball/">VC Monday Madness: Pokemon Snap, Ghosts 'n Goblins and Baseball Stars 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Dec 2007 09:45:00 EST. It's another week of high quantity on Japan's Virtual Console -- but that doesn't necessarily mean that, when employing their shovel, Nintendo didn't pick up some <em>good</em> stuff. In fact, overall, this is a very solid Virtual Console week, featuring five games new to the VC in any region. We're pretty likely to at least get <em>Ghosts 'n' Goblins </em>soon in the U.S., and <em>Eternal Champions'</em>s Japanese release makes an upcoming release pretty likely. We're hoping for <em>Nuts &amp; Milk</em> ourselves, just because the name makes us laugh every time we see it. Not because of any prurient reason -- we just think it looks like a shopping list.<br /><br />
