The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/27/activision-registers-domains-for-goldeneye-007-reloaded/">rumors</a> of an enhanced port of the Wii's <em>Goldeneye 007</em> got a shot in the arm today with a batch of supposed screens for the game. Pulled from <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=435358&amp;page=5">NeoGAF</a>, the screens certainly look an improvement relative to the Wii predecessor -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/screenshots/goldeneye-7-16-2010/3179296/#/0">see for yourself</a> -- showing off improved textures and models.<br />
<br />
In addition to <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/activision-reveals-spider-man-edge-of-time-and-x-men-destiny-voice-talent-at-san-diego-comic-con-125802943.html">showing off its Marvel properties</a>, Activision is supposed to reveal a new 007 game at Comic-Con later this week. Whether that's this rumored <em>Goldeneye</em> remake or another game entirely, we should know in a few days. Quit fidgeting. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/rumor-goldeneye-reloaded-screens-infiltrate-the-web/">Rumor: GoldenEye Reloaded screens infiltrate the web</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 19:20:00 EST. Internet sleuth <a href="http://twitter.com/#%21/supererogatory/status/85354210455072768">@supererogatory</a> discovered some recent domain name registrations made by Activision, which point at a potential re-release of 2010's Wii exclusive, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>GoldenEye 007</em></a>. "GoldenEyeReloadedGame.com," "GoldenEye007GameReloaded.com," "GoldenEyeReloaded007.com" and "GoldenEye007Reloaded.com" were the four URLs the Santa Monica-based publisher snagged.<br />
<br />
Now, while the possibility of a new and improved Wii game isn't out of the question, we're inclined to think that Activision is thinking about consoles other than the Wii -- specifically, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move">PlayStation Move</a> functionality. Of course,
<meta charset="utf-8" />
fans have been clamoring for a remake of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/09/goldeneye-n64-wii-comparison/">the original <em>GoldenEye 007</em> on N64</a> since they looked up the word clamor and realized it was what they were doing; unfortunately, with original developer Rare now owned by Microsoft, that path is legally perilous.<br />
<br />
Activision has not made any announcements concerning these domain names.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/27/activision-registers-domains-for-goldeneye-007-reloaded/">Activision registers domains for 'GoldenEye 007 Reloaded'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Jun 2011 17:00:00 EST. If there were any question about how much the recently released <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007">Goldeneye</a></em> title for Nintendo Wii closely resembles its N64 predecessor -- regardless of the source material -- this video from <a href="http://www.rewindreplay.com/goldeneye/">RewindReplayTV</a> certainly cements it. Beyond the game's setting and characters, there are shot-for-shot moments that directly recreate the original game (albeit with far more detail and polish). <br />
<br />
Also, if you needed a stirring reminder of how much a Nintendo 64 game can age over the years, <em>Goldeneye 64</em> is perhaps the pinnacle among available examples. Seeing it against Eurocom's sterling Wii effort only serves to highlight the ravages of time all the more. See for yourself below the fold.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/09/goldeneye-n64-wii-comparison/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>See how Goldeneye 007 stacks up to its N64 predecessor</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/09/goldeneye-n64-wii-comparison/">See how Goldeneye 007 stacks up to its N64 predecessor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Nov 2010 18:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-3"><em>Fable 3</em></a> lost the UK sales chart crown last week to not one, but <em>two</em>, footie titles. The football revolution sent Lionhead's Albion simulator to third as <em>FIFA 11</em> maintained its spot in second and ... oh my, the PC-exclusive <em>Football Manager 2011</em> premiered at the premier spot. According to <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=973&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a>, it was only the second PC-exclusive title to reach the top spot this year, with the other being <em>StarCraft 2</em>.<br />
<br />
Ubisoft's <em>Just Dance 2</em> maintained its fourth place. If the title has the stamina of its older sibling, 2010 might have a <em>Just Dance</em> representative in the top ten throughout the entire year. <em>Professor Layton and The Lost Future</em> rounded out the top five.<br />
<br />
Other high-profile premieres last week, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>Goldeneye 007</em></a> for Wii and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/007-blood-stone"><em>007: Blood Stone</em></a>, had licenses to kill the #13 and #18 spots, respectively. Spy with your double-0 eye the UK top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/08/football-manager-2011-debuts-atop-uk-charts-bond-finds-quantum/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Football Manager 2011 debuts atop UK charts, Bond finds quantum of solace in teens</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/08/football-manager-2011-debuts-atop-uk-charts-bond-finds-quantum/">Football Manager 2011 debuts atop UK charts, Bond finds quantum of solace in teens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Nov 2010 09:10:00 EST. Activision had an interesting balancing act on its hands with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007-2010"><em>Goldeneye</em></a>. It knew that this was a nostalgia title for the Nintendo 64 crowd, yet it had to be wary of "copying" anything from the Rare-developed 1997 title of the same name for legal reasons. So the company goes back to the source material (the film, that is), replaces Pierce Brosnan with Daniel Craig, and builds an entirely new game -- yet all the while hoping it rides its name recognition right off the shelves. "Somebody's remaking <em>Goldeneye</em>! Remember <em>Goldeneye</em>? <em>Goldeneye</em>!"<br />
<br />
This isn't a remake. It's a new Bond game based on an older film. Remember when EA made a video game version of <em>From Russia With Love</em> in 2005? It's like that, but if they replaced Sean Connery with Daniel Craig. And gave him a smartphone.<br />

There's nothing quite like witnessing the likes of Baron Samedi and Francisco Scaramanga -- fully digitally rendered from forthcoming game <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007">Goldeneye 007</a></em> -- before being riddled with PP7 bullets. But that's just what Activision has sent over: beautiful artist renditions of Bond's worst enemies, before their inevitable demises.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/31/goldeneye-007-enemies-are-looking-sharp/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Goldeneye 007 enemies are looking sharp</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/31/goldeneye-007-enemies-are-looking-sharp/">Goldeneye 007 enemies are looking sharp</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 31 Oct 2010 20:30:00 EST. Our favorite part of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>Goldeneye 007</em></a> -- the movie and N64 game -- was when James Bond, tired of his usual stealthy modus operandi, hopped into a tank and just <em>went to town</em> on St. Petersburg. In the video below, we get a look at this (<em>somewhat</em> more explosive) sequence in the game's spiritual Wiimake.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/28/goldeneye-007-vignette-totally-wrecks-st-petersburg/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GoldenEye 007 vignette totally wrecks St. Petersburg</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/28/goldeneye-007-vignette-totally-wrecks-st-petersburg/">GoldenEye 007 vignette totally wrecks St. Petersburg</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Oct 2010 22:30:00 EST. Back in our day, the mo-cap process for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>GoldenEye 007</em></a> required a single shot of a dude chopping his hand in a 90 degree arc. Apparently, the remake requires a bit more work than that. Get to know the new Bond's stuntman in the developer's diary posted just below.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/24/goldeneye-007-dev-diary-introduces-the-new-bonds-stuntman/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GoldenEye 007 dev diary introduces the new Bond's stuntman</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/24/goldeneye-007-dev-diary-introduces-the-new-bonds-stuntman/">GoldenEye 007 dev diary introduces the new Bond's stuntman</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 24 Oct 2010 22:00:00 EST. Despite what you may have thought, Alec Trevelyan reminds us (and consequently, James Bond) that it's really not about protecting "Queen and country" -- it's all about "the bankers and their bonuses." It's <em>also</em> all about stopping a satellite weapon from being fired.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/16/goldeneye-007-dives-deep-into-story-for-its-latest-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GoldenEye 007 dives deep into story for its latest trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/16/goldeneye-007-dives-deep-into-story-for-its-latest-trailer/">GoldenEye 007 dives deep into story for its latest trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 16 Oct 2010 17:30:00 EST. A company working on high-profile names like those doesn't seem like a likely candidate for financial troubles. That's exactly what CEO Dan O'Leary announced on the developer's <a href="http://nspaceinc.wordpress.com/2010/10/09/n-space-rumor-control/">blog</a> this weekend, though he declined to offer a significant number.<br />
<br />
The reason for the layoffs (which left N-space "down, but definitely not out"): a deal with an (unspecified) licensor fell through, and no other publishers were found to help support the company's ongoing projects, which include "7 titles this year (plus an iOS game we'll be announcing next week), 5 of which were approved in September." <br />
<br />
O'Leary lamented the changing state of the games industry in his message. "Huge budget titles have to sell massive numbers to return a profit and the App Store has disrupted our industry in the same way iTunes changed consumer expectations for music. People that use to buy many games every year now buy a few AAA titles, supplementing their need with games that are free or cost less than a pack of gum. Anything in the 'middle' is struggling." That "middle" includes the Wii and DS, where N-Space releases the majority of its products. The 3DS, he said, is "a brave new world the publishers are excited about but also very cautious to enter."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/11/n-space-down-but-definitely-not-out-announces-layoffs/">N-Space 'down, but definitely not out,' announces layoffs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Oct 2010 11:30:00 EST. We poured many, many hours of our lives into the original <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>GoldenEye</em></a> -- so much so that even the smallest changes in Eurocom's reboot of the shooter are ... noticeable. For example, in the trailer below: You still drop down on a dude using the toilet in the Facility, but now you do it <em>Spider-Man style</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/goldeneye-007-villains-choices-and-weapons-trailer-is-strange/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GoldenEye 007 'Villains, Choices and Weapons' trailer is strange but familiar</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/goldeneye-007-villains-choices-and-weapons-trailer-is-strange/">GoldenEye 007 'Villains, Choices and Weapons' trailer is strange but familiar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Oct 2010 18:00:00 EST. Non-Classic Edition buyers will get to play Classic Conflict as well, but they'll have to wait until they reach level 35 in online multiplayer to unlock it. Following a marketing trend of cashing in on our deep-seated nostalgia, the latest <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>Goldeneye 007</em></a> trailer features a few characters from the series' original romp. There's familiar faces like Jaws, Oddjob, Scaramanga and Baron Samedi, who apparently didn't get our memo about the pants situation.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/17/goldeneye-007-character-vignette-features-recognizable-pantsl/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Goldeneye 007 'Character Vignette' features recognizable, pantsless foes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/17/goldeneye-007-character-vignette-features-recognizable-pantsl/">Goldeneye 007 'Character Vignette' features recognizable, pantsless foes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Sep 2010 21:30:00 EST. Developer n-Space has been responsible for the DS installments of Activision's biggest FPS franchise, <em>Call of Duty</em>. With handheld versions of <em>Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare</em>,<em> World at War</em> and<em> Modern Warfare: Mobilized</em> under its belt, the studio is readying for its next release, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/29/new-goldeneye-007-also-coming-to-nintendo-ds-this-year/">the DS version</a> of <em>GoldenEye 007,</em> which will launch alongside <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/14/goldeneye-007-wii-preview/">the Wii remake</a> on November 2.<br />

Activision is taking a risk with its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>GoldenEye 007</em></a> remake for Wii. Legal precautions aside (Microsoft and Rare still have rights to the original game), <em>GoldenEye</em> for N64, or simply "Bond," is a beloved, iconic console FPS. So, to re-imagine this game on the Wii, Activision risks both tarnishing us old-timers' fond memories and further alienating a newer generation that wonders, "What's the big deal?"<br />
<br />
At a recent preview event, I checked out two levels of the new <em>GoldenEye</em> and spoke with Activision brand manager Eric Spielman. "We thought, if we're going to bring it back, we need to have a commitment to authenticity; and the original game was on Nintendo -- we wanted to be on Nintendo again," Spielman told me, when asked why Activision had focused its remake solely on the Wii (a DS version will also be released). "If you look at the Wii, it's very much about people together, in the same room, having fun, playing games together. It all added up to us getting the exclusive, and Nintendo has been a big help every step of the way."<br />

The new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>Goldeneye 007</em></a> doesn't have Pierce Brosnan and isn't a remake of the classic N64 title. This latest trailer looks at how Eurocom is reimagining the story of the film -- with Daniel Craig's Bond -- for today's audience. One thing you can't update: <a href="http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0000332/quotes">Joe Don Baker</a>. Dude can't be reimagined.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/31/latest-goldeneye-007-trailer-reimagines-bond/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Latest Goldeneye 007 trailer reimagines Bond</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/31/latest-goldeneye-007-trailer-reimagines-bond/">Latest Goldeneye 007 trailer reimagines Bond</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Aug 2010 21:30:00 EST. "A new <em>Goldeneye</em> has arrived," the trailer below matter-of-factly states, "so what are you going to do?" That, Mr. Trailer, is an awfully open-ended question. We imagine we'll stick to our usual routine of waking up at noon, then turning on whatever television station is currently running an <em>America's Next Top Model</em> marathon, but -- oh, we see. That's one of those <em>rhetorical questions</em>. We're supposed to say "multiplayer, of course," and then you show a bunch of clips from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>Goldeneye 007</em>'s</a> multiplayer component. Sorry for the confusion.<br />
<br />
Check out some new-but-familiar maps (hey, it's the Facility!), guns (hey, it's the RCP90!) and features (hey, it's Paintball Mode!) in the trailer posted after the jump. Or, if you're interested in the game's single player campaign <em>for some reason</em>, you can check that out in the nifty galleries posted even <em>further</em> after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/20/goldeneye-multiplayer-trailer-and-screens-take-us-back/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Goldeneye multiplayer trailer and screens take us back</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/20/goldeneye-multiplayer-trailer-and-screens-take-us-back/">Goldeneye multiplayer trailer and screens take us back</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Aug 2010 21:00:00 EST. Like many Wii games before it, the upcoming revival of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007">Goldeneye 007</a></em> supports a number of different controllers. You'll be able to play with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, the Classic Controller, a GameCube controller or even the Wii Zapper. But surely one of these myriad methods must be the preferred control scheme among the development team, right?<br />
<br />
Well, no, not really. "There's a house divided, at least amongst ourselves," said Activision production coordinator Graham Hagmaier while presenting a demo of the game at Gamescom this week. "A lot of us play with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. I prefer this particular scheme [the Classic Controller], just because I used to play a lot of FPS games on [the Xbox] 360 and PS3, and for a lot of people those are very popular formats. But it just depends on your proficiency with the controller."<br />
<br />
The team's proficiency with the Wii Zapper was left unaddressed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/20/overheard-gamescom-a-development-house-divided/">Overheard @ Gamescom: A development house divided</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Aug 2010 20:30:00 EST. In fact, an eyes-on walkthrough of the game's Jungle level at Gamescom this week showed off just how much first-person-shooter game design has changed in the last 13 years.<br />
<br />
The changes were incredibly apparent right from the start, when the developers guiding the demo sneaked up behind a guard and took him out with the kind of close-quarters combat neck-snap you might expect to see in <a href="http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NeckSnap">every bit of pop culture ever</a> (but not the original <em>Goldeneye</em>). Taking out two more guards with headshots ensured that the alarm wouldn't be raised and the game could remain a <em>Splinter Cell-</em>style stealth experience for at least a while longer.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/goldeneye-7-16-2010/">GoldenEye 007 (7/16/2010)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/goldeneye-7-16-2010/#3179296"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/damfirefight_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/goldeneye-7-16-2010/#3179297"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/bondjump_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/goldeneye-7-16-2010/#3179298"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/facility1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/goldeneye-7-16-2010/#3179299"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/facility2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/goldeneye-7-16-2010/#3179300"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/guards_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/20/preview-goldeneye-007-single-player/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Preview: Goldeneye 007 (single player)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/20/preview-goldeneye-007-single-player/">Preview: Goldeneye 007 (single player)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Aug 2010 18:00:00 EST. Remember those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/05/report-new-goldeneye-coming-in-november-to-be-revealed-at-e3/">images</a> which leaked out of Activision's survey about the spiritual successor to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>Goldeneye</em></a>? Remember that totally bitchin' gold Wii <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/classic-controller-pro">Classic Controller Pro</a> depicted in one of said images? It's very real, and can be very yours if you elect to pick up the <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/111/1111528p1.html"><em>GoldenEye 007</em> Classic Edition</a> for $69.99 when the game launches later this year.<br />
<br />
This news will be especially exciting to you if you're planning on playing the game using the Classic control scheme, which eschews the Wiimote and Nunchuck for a more traditional input experience -- one which we imagine will be much more "retro"-feeling, and much less less likely to result in you hurling a Wiimote through your TV while attempting to chuck a Throwing Knife at a bothersome foe.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/11/goldeneye-007-classic-edition-includes-gold-classic-controller-p/">Goldeneye 007 Classic Edition includes gold Classic Controller Pro</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Aug 2010 12:30:00 EST. When <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/05/report-new-goldeneye-coming-in-november-to-be-revealed-at-e3/">rumors were flying</a> about a new <em>GoldenEye</em> game just before E3, both Wii and DS versions were supposedly in the works. But when Nintendo and Activision <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/goldeneye-007-with-daniel-craig-officially-revealed/">made it official</a> during the expo, only the Daniel Craig-ified Wii game was announced (despite the DS logo also appearing on the <a href="http://goldeneyegame.com/">official game page</a>). Today, the DS version of <em>GoldenEye 007 </em>showed up again, this time in Nintendo's upcoming releases calendar that joined the company's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/29/nintendo-quarterly-earnings-down-3ds-launch-date-to-be-announce/">quarterly earnings</a> report.<br />
<br />
Following the appearance, we confirmed with Activision that a DS iteration of <em>GoldenEye 007</em> is, in fact, in development and will be released alongside the Wii game later this year. The handheld version will be developed by perpetual mobile game port house <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/n-space">n-Space</a>; though an Activision representative emphasized to us, "it's not a port." Additionally, both Daniel Craig (Bond) and Judi Dench ("M") will voice their characters in the DS game. We were tempted to ask about John Cleese, but then we remembered he's busy doing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/13/fable-3-dev-diary-reveals-jasper-the-butler-played-by-cleese/">other, likely wonderful voice work</a> at the moment.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/29/new-goldeneye-007-also-coming-to-nintendo-ds-this-year/">New GoldenEye 007 also coming to DS this year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Jul 2010 17:00:00 EST. If your Friday was feeling light on <em>dashing</em> digitized photos of <em>dashing</em> Daniel Craig, Activision is here to help alleviate the issue. Not only has <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007">GoldenEye 007</a></em>'s publisher released a handful of new screens that we've dropped into a gallery for you below, but there's also a new trailer that we've embedded after the break. <br />
<br />
What, that's not enough? How about some photos of that <em>other</em> Daniel Craig looking dashing in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/James-Bond-007-Blood-Stone/">another </a></em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/James-Bond-007-Blood-Stone/">Bond game</a>? Well, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/16/james-bond-007-blood-stone-trailer-is-for-your-eyes-only/">here you go</a>! It's Bond day, didn't you know?<br />

Let's clear one thing up: This <em>GoldenEye</em> Wii game is <u>not</u> your <em>GoldenEye</em> N64 game all prettied up. This is an original game based on the same Bond ... movie (though featuring the Daniel Craig Bond). That's not to say that the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007/"><em>GoldenEye 007</em></a> doesn't borrow -- what it legally can -- from Rare's classic console FPS, but be careful about expecting a modern port of the 1997 game known simply and lovingly as "<em>Bond</em>." (That project is still <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/red-tape-preventing-goldeneye-revival/">not happening</a>.) <br />
<br />
At Nintendo's E3 booth, I played a quick round of two-player split-screen multiplayer of this new <em>GoldenEye</em>, and it left a positive impression. I could have sworn my opponent and I had faced off in a classic <em>Bond</em> map (the Archives, I thought), but Activision insists this is an "original" level, in so much as it is not a recreation of one of Rare's maps from the N64 game. Of course, Rare's maps were based on sets from the movie, and Activision has the rights to have maps designed from these same sets. So, expect to get a sense of d&eacute;j&agrave; vu when playing the new <em>Goldeneye</em>.<br />

During its E3 keynote, Nintendo revealed a new <em>GoldenEye </em>game for Wii from Activision -- yeah, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/goldeneye-64-wii-make-revealed-see-craigs-bond-in-action/">that one</a>. The initial trailer revealed plenty of action, including the N64 game's introductory dam base-jumping sequence, the Facility (yes!), and even the promise of online multiplayer. Polish those golden guns -- <em>GoldenEye </em>is set to launch this holiday.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/goldeneye-007-with-daniel-craig-officially-revealed/">GoldenEye 007 (with Daniel Craig) officially revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jun 2010 12:32:00 EST. Earlier today, IGN posted a trailer for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/05/report-new-goldeneye-coming-in-november-to-be-revealed-at-e3/">oft-rumored</a> remake of the classic Nintendo 64 shooter, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007"><em>GoldenEye</em></a>. (You've probably heard of it. You <em>very probably</em> spent many of your youthful nights playing it until you fell asleep.) The game is being ported exclusively to the Wii, and has received a fairly noticeable facelift during its transformation. That is to say, a <em>figurative</em> facelift (it's prettier!) and a <em>literal</em> facelift, as Pierce Brosnan has transmogrified into current Bond actor, Daniel Craig.<br />
<br />
IGN's trailer has been pulled down by Activision, but a few wise <em>GoldenEye</em> fans <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xdohaz_goldeneye-007-first-trailer-nintend_videogames">managed to capture it</a> while it was still up. You can check out a copy of the trailer posted after the jump. Don't worry -- we're sure any missing details will be provided in the coming, megaton-filled days.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/goldeneye-64-wii-make-revealed-see-craigs-bond-in-action/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GoldenEye 64 Wii-make revealed, see Craig's Bond in action</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/goldeneye-64-wii-make-revealed-see-craigs-bond-in-action/">GoldenEye 64 Wii-make revealed, see Craig's Bond in action</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Jun 2010 21:05:00 EST. More evidence to support the circulating rumors of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/goldeneye-2010"><em>GoldenEye</em></a> remake surfaced this past week. The most convincing <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/activision-goldeneye-game-in-november">comes from Eurogamer</a>, which reports that a source has confirmed Activision is working on a revamped version of the classic Nintendo 64 shooter for the Wii and DS to be released this November. The game is supposedly being developed by n-Space and Eurocom, the latter of which created the N64 version of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World_Is_Not_Enough_%28video_game%29"><em>The World is Not Enough</em></a>. The source also mentioned the publisher will showcase the title for the very first time at E3, so we won't have to wait long to learn if this unnamed tipster is on the money.<br />
<br />
A slightly more suspect piece of evidence comes to us <a href="http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=125721">via GoNintendo</a>, which posted a series of images from an anonymous source, purportedly stripped from a survey referencing a <em>GoldenEye</em> Wii-make. This survey mentions "a modernized version of the classic story with the new Bond (Daniel Craig)," which, if true, would be a minor travesty. Don't get us wrong, we love Craig -- but you really can't out-Brosnan Brosnan, you know?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/05/report-new-goldeneye-coming-in-november-to-be-revealed-at-e3/">Report: New GoldenEye coming in November, to be revealed at E3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 Jun 2010 13:30:00 EST. The saga of a new <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/goldeneye"><em>GoldenEye</em></a> game -- or the possible re-release of the original -- has acquired yet another new wrinkle. Said wrinkle comes in the form of a new internet domain registered by Activision. The domain in question, uncovered by <a href="http://supererogatory.tumblr.com/post/543750124/created-on-2010-04-21">superannuation</a>, is goldeneyegame.com, which certainly points to some sort of revival for the storied title. While the prospects of an actual re-release of Rare's N64 classic have been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/goldeneye-xbla-stuck-in-no-mans-land/">all but crushed</a>, an artist's resume discovered in October 2009 did mention work on a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/26/rumor-animator-resume-lists-work-on-goldeneye-2010/"><em>GoldenEye 2010</em></a> for Activision.<br />
<br />
Assuming the resume was accurate, Activision could be securing the domain in advance of an announcement. It's also unclear if any of this ties into <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/22/james-bond-bloodstone-retailer-listing/"><em>James Bond: Bloodstone</em></a>, the alleged title of the Bond game in development at Bizarre. We know Activision <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/05/activision-talks-2010-bond-is-back-joined-by-tony-hawk-spider/">has Bond plans for 2010</a>, but could the company be preparing us for a double-0 dose of espionage, perhaps rolling out a new version of <em>GoldenEye</em> to drum up interest for <em>Bloodstone</em>? Or maybe the company is simply getting its ducks in a row in case it does decide to revive <em>GoldenEye</em>.<br />

Whatever it is, something is definitely <strike>stirring</strike> shaking at Activision.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/23/activision-registers-new-domain-for-goldeneye-game/">Activision registers new domain for GoldenEye game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 23 Apr 2010 18:12:00 EST. <em><small>It'll probably look a bit better than this</small></em></div>
Shortly before being pulled from the internet's intimidating view, an animator's online resume may have let out a secret -- concerning an iconic secret agent. According to the eagle-eyed <a href="http://supererogatory.tumblr.com/post/223707250/experience-team-bondi-sydney-australia">Superannuation</a>, Craig Peck listed work on a game dubbed "GoldenEye 2010 (Wii)," created in association with British developer Eurocom.<br />
<br />
Eurocom previously worked on the PlayStation 2 version of Activision's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quantum-of-solace"><em>Quantum of Solace</em></a> tie-in. Assuming "GoldenEye 2010" isn't merely a nostalgic codename, it seems the publisher could be looking to a well-regarded classic for inspiration on a new James Bond game. Alas, Hollywood can't keep up with Activision's annual aspirations. <br />
<br />
The publisher won't divulge any of its plans this early, leaving us to wait for further information or for our time-traveling correspondent to confirm the game's existence. He's really more of a <em>GoldenEye 2020</em> fan -- looking back, that really was the best of the remakes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/26/rumor-animator-resume-lists-work-on-goldeneye-2010/">Rumor: Animator resume lists work on 'GoldenEye 2010'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Oct 2009 14:50:00 EST.
